In Nigeria, yes the contractor must not be a professional engineer or Registered Engineer (RE in our case), but his construction must be supervised by an RE who signs an undertaking for the construction. You may never see the RE on site but he is responsible especially for QC/QA.

The government inspectors like you are hold the RE responsible for the QC/QA issues.

Secondly, every company registered with the government for construction activities must have an Engineer in the board of directors. So an Architect cannot register his own company as a construction company without having an Engr as one of the directors. I have given my credentials to some architects for this purpose.

In 2012, I built 2 units of detached duplex for a nairalander and the client engaged independent consultants (structural, mechanical and electrical) to double check my work. Each of them had nothing less than 20 years experience and they were paid heavily to do this. This is outside the estate project managers, government inspectors (LASBCA) and the design architect who come in at every critical stage to check and sign off the work and ensure the "as-built" conforms with the design.

The client is here. I'm sure he's not trying to show off but doing exactly what a good project manager should do on every project.

Honestly, this is a Design issue. The stairs is never suppose to be like that. We do this in Nigeria to conserve space because we are trying to get the impossible into possible. if you had enough space, you will get a better result with proper landing. That will fail inspector all day long!

But like a GM in Lands once told me: "Its due to Nigerian Constraints American Man" lmao

That’s a winder staircase. It’s a variation of an L-shaped staircase without a flat landing. It’s cool when you design it well.

Sir, in an environment where borehole doesn't work good, it's better to dig a well which sometimes you must service the well often by packing the fall off sands and in such environment, submersible pump is the best to used because the surface pump will keep developing faults. I knew of a location where the owners were warned not to dig borehole but the borehole guy was promising the owner of a good result (Sheybi Na to collect money for him own pocket then comot), the borehole was done and it has low pressure when pumping right from the day it was dug, funny enough the owner didn't know that it was the water that was used in digging the borehole was what the guy pumped out, it takes them 12hrs to pump half of a tank despite the area lacks power supply too(generator was been used to pump) it got to extent the pump got stucked as well. He only has water in his borehole when it rains heavily, I mean heavily and all he gets is dirty water... There are lots of information one needs to know before buying a land

Mentioned this earlier. That format is called FG format. Pump enough water into the ground, install control valve and use slow pump for commissioning day.

Yours is a lot cheaper than mine. My own survey says 97 meters with not so much water underneath. They charged me 800k for everything but no guarantee of adequate water. I decided to do wells. I have three wells dug and cost me about 300k. We pumped water out of the three wells for two hours each and more than enough water in those well. I'm satisfied.

The Ile Oluji project ended up with a well after putting some thousands of naira into sinking borehole.

Another project (personal) in Odogbo area of Ojoo, Ibadan ended up with a well after trying all recommendations from neighbours and recommended help.

Ilugun MultiDwell Flats ended up with a well after survey recommended 108m with low-yield.

Ilugun, Odogbo, Ibadan and Oke-Igbo, Ondo formation are pretty similar to Abeokuta Ogun state.

Most surveys still rely on un-updated datas in the ministry of water resources.

Some risk are really not worth taking though.

I thought sinking borehole is as simple as ABC once money dey ground.

I dare anyone who has successfully done a borehole (industrial or domestic) on hilly terrain to showcase their job here and the cost. And possible help the needy here.

If you miss 90m once, I'm sure no one will tell you don't try it again. And maybe my 30% mobilization and balance on completion will work.

That's no problem. The only downside to the proposed is that we are going to have a small bathroom (1.2m wide). However, we can carve out a 1.2m lobby from the remaining 2.8m in between the bath and the kitchen.
We will make use of a divider to do the kitchen partition. It can be a cabinet, plasterboard or something cool. No need for wall partition as that will only eat a chunk out of much needed space.

That moment you realize that the space is not as wide as you thought

You immediately realize it's Remote Management Problem. Using my IT wizadry, it can be any of the following and resolved:

* It's like you can't establish a connection to the remote server (your builder in this case). Check all the links. One will surely expose the point of failure.

* It must be that the remote server (your builder) is using a non-public IP address and exists on an entirely separate network or hiding behind a firewall, that you may not be able to directly connect to it unless you're given authorized access. (This means you may only see what they want you to see). You may have to implement a VPN (create a backdoor/operate in stealth mode) so you can manage the server from your remote office.

* Make sure adequate bandwidth ($$$) is available and the main server you want to manage is also not been remotely managed by the other remote users. Nothing wrong with a server having multiple remote users but you need to be on priority list.

* Check Group Policy setting and ensure you're registered active directory user. Ensure that your head still dey there with your builder. You may need a 3rd party to get that.

I visited WIHU Lagos Office today to check out our machine for the block production and interlocking brick maker which I'm picking for backyard projects and other smaller jobs.

Oops! There's always something to fix. This time, it's electricity. Hmm! One day, one day, the pig will get to Oyo town.

I just can't take my eyes off the interlocking bricks. I've got a big plan for this!

Worthy of mention is the proposed Raised Bungalow coming to Otunla town, Lagos.
