NL love to invoke the F word even when it doesn’t apply.

How is she laying down the law? She has a real reason to worry that a customary court will not have any effect if she’s a widow and her in-laws kick her and her kids out. We have threads here on NL on sufferings of widows. Please, what does the man have to lose? It’s not like she’ll receive a financial windfall if they divorce, we have no such laws here.

OP if you love her as you claim, then you will do all you can so she and your kids are well protected if anything happens to you.
The F was to denote my usual stance which I chose not to adopt here but confessed so those who know it of me don't think I had a mind transplant. But equating simple me to NL is bigging me up way more than puny me is worth. That said, don't miss my F credentials. I wear it as my badge of honour and don't really care if you dis or like it since I am not here to pleasure you.

You do not have to agree with me that she is laying down the law. You have your own mind and opinion and I'm sure you'd let me have mine, though whether you let me or not is irrelevant really since I d not need your permission nor do I require you to pay for the data with which I express it.

Do note that I am not assuming to knowitall, but as far as I do know, a "customary court wedding", which you changed op's "white wedding/traditional wedding" to, are as recognised as any marriage. Traditional non-court weddings however, depend on your own local traditions which are not the same everywhere in Nigeria and have some exceptions which you may want to read about here.

Op, I strongly advise you deal with her madam's intrusions before you "do all you can so she and your kids are well protected if anything happens to you", because this would not be the only time her madam would be poking her nose in your business. And while we have all heard of "mother-in-laws from hell", it would not be with delight that to you might have to post a thread titled "madam-in-law from hell", when you ought to have seen it coming before you got married.

Someone please tell me if he is sharing jollof though, because I know some people who'd want some.

You’re about to get married to another person and it’s no longer just you. You have to be ready and know when to compromise to accommodate the other person in your life.
I'd have thought they both should be compromising and accommodating, but sister here seems to be laying down the law! And this is feminist to the power infinity buda speaking here!

Kboyvic, you need to remind her that her madam is not going to be part of your relationship and if her madam's opinion matters so much maybe she should marry her madam instead of you! But only say that after you've agreed to this tiny request of her's.

Even though I wouldn't want to challenge you on why you voted for Buhari, Would you consider him as having an understanding of the problem of Nigeria, the challenges and the possible solution? He promised Continuity! And based on his first term I couldn't help wondering "continuity of what"!?!
Do you not understand what is meant by "the lesser of two evils"? He also allegedly, promised to make $1 = ₦1, and you may read here my view of the gullible people who believed he could.

Yes, I consider bubu as having a better "understanding of the problem of Nigeria, the challenges and the possible solution" than the person who was most likely to win and be President if bubu hadn't won.

We all went through bubu's first term, and we and not Martians still elected him for a second term despite all the hardship of his first term. And while you might be tempted to fob us off by calling us an ignorant mob or claim bubu only won by sharing money, I can live with that as long as it cripples those who would rather elect, by commission or omission, the next most likely person to have won and whom I personally do not trust and can not stand for reasons I already mentioned.

Only if I hated my country Nigeria and myself and my blood relatives would I wish Atiku on us. We might have food on our tables for a short while if we had but that food would be the crumbs that fell off the tables after he and his cohorts had filled their own bellys and ghanamustgoes and soakaways with all our nation's money, and it would have been us who would have been complaining today when their looting made $1=₦1000!

Are you stupid? Companies moving in India and Pakistan are looking for cheap labour to manufacture easy stuff, most education based jobs are still in China. A lot of western clothes manufacturing companies are in Pakistan and India and they are even hiring children to do their job, do you believe these poor childrens are genius? How superior is Ethiopias education than the Nigerian, if it even is? Again top education based jobs will continue to remain in western countries and china for a long while, but jobs that anyone, even your illiterate tribesman can do with some training are moving into countries with cheap labour.... I shouldn't have to explain this.....
Instead of asking if others are stupid and peppering your posts with juvenile insults which just show you yourself are the stupid one here, why don't you just do some research for a change and find out how much those countries you mention spend on education per person and compare it to African countries?

You mentioned Pakistan and India, two countries with nuclear power! Are you aware that nuclearization is a product of education, and nations can't even buy it if they they lack proper knowledge of it? They can try, of course, but would end up with lemons since they can't adequately access what they are buying.

That said, Africans are not hated all over the world, but going by how you have conducted yourself here, I am absolutely certain you are more likely to be hated all over the world than liked, because if you conduct yourself in a way that is uncivil you most certainly will be hated and its not because you are African but because you lack manners.

But your same APC govt has recently talked about moves to privatize NNPC. Did you not hear about it? Hypocrites in Nigeria! And you think a good leader will fall from heaven like this?
Unlike you, I so love facts and evidence and hardly listen to hearsay, so would you like to show me where the current government proposed privatisation of NNPC please, and while you are at it, perhaps read through the thread to see my opinion about good leaders falling from heaven, because if you can get a simple thing like that wrong, I can't see why anything else you write is worth my time or consideration.

Do note though that if NNPC is to be privatised, I'd much rather bubu done it than that more crooked atiku because unlike some who refuse to learn from history, I've seen what happened to the companies atiku did privatise and would be a fool to watch him do the same to NNPC.

So you campaigned for Buhari?
No wonder!

For me, I want Impressed with the campaign promises of Atiku and Buhari didn't even campaign at all(not talking about rally o). You should know that for now in Nigeria, once you are not APC or PDP your candidate can't win an election. The two parties have the money to use for political inducements and a political structure that goes down to the grassroots
I do know that "once you are not APC or PDP your candidate can't win an election". And being the realist that I am, I certainly did campaign for my bubu! If I hadn't, that crooked Atiku would be President today. And since his manifesto was sell the goose NNPC that lays our golden eggs, and since I know he was going to sell it to his cronies who would strip the goose as he did when he was privatizing under Obj leaving us with lots of now dead companies, I am very pleased with myself thank you very much.

Nigeria is certainly not ready for a better ruler so we chose the least worse out of those who come forward while we educate the mob to know better. For now though there's absolutely no way I am going to be irresponsible and let that more crooked Atiku preside over me. The level of irresponsibility required for that is way beyond me!

You sound like those who claim all Nigerians are crooked, but ask if their parents or they are crooked, they say "of course not!"

I have lived in Nigeria, as you'd see if you read my post. And though I shared books and not food, my car went home with me. And I'm not complaining about anything but take responsibility instead.

Perhaps speak for yourself if you would not behave in an orderly manner. Most Nigerians I come in contact with do behave in an orderly manner and I educate the few ignorant asses who don't, and they learn to behave in an orderly manner if they want anything to do with me. I guess it's because of the regard I have for myself, and the fact that everyone except brainless fools respect buda.

I said you're out of touch with realities on ground. It's not like in many countries where fliers are shared in the neighbourhood by interested campaigners.

There was NO campaign except for money sharing (where APC and PDP reps came to distribute their incentive to people). My candidate was neither APC nor PDP and I wasn't even a card carrying member of his party.

You are certainly out of touch! Walahi!
You can accuse me of being out of touch as much as you want shade. The fact that you did not campaign in your neighbourhood does not mean no one else campaigned in your neighbourhood even if they never campaigned to you.

Some of us are campaigning despite being out of the country and our candidates are winning elections while you are sitting on your ass moaning. And we are not sharing money while doing so since we are much smarter than that.

Campaigning is not only about sharing money. Some of us go so far as seeing campaigning as educating. And we start educating long before you are old enough to vote because the evildoers do not rest so neither do we.

So you want to disprove without empirical evidence? Point to where it's stated in the Holy Bible that if you do not believe in Jesus Christ, you would make heaven.
Of course you're not a Christian, you just want to sound intelligent.
I guess it has to explicitly say so for you to understand because, like some, you reason like a child and fail to understand that the Samaritan we know today as being good was not even so much the equivalent of a One God Muslim, but a multi-god pagan worshipper. Yet, Christ said it is he that you should do likewise as. Nor do you seem aware that the money grabbing supposedly hell going tax collector would enter God's Kingdom while the self righteous Pharisee would be left gnashing his teeth.

One can't just sound intelligent because one wants to. The Holy Spirit will guide you too to put the ways of childhood behind you so that you stop focusing on the reflection in a mirror and fully understand.

Well, I'd say you erred in waiting till you were at the booth on election day to discover you were a minority. If you had been smarter and wiser, you'd have been out there educating and mobilising people before election day.

Thankfully, here we are with the next election a few years away and you are proactively mobilising and educating so your minority might decrease. Have faith in your abilities and your seeds will produce a crop a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown.

The mob may not win (depending on the cause at hand) but they sheepishly follow a Lead (good or bad).
No the mob do not "sheepishly follow a Lead (good or bad)"! If they did, we'd all have a horde of sheep following us, good or bad! And if Christ had adopted that attitude “Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?” would have had a greater significance than we give it today.

The work of enlightening, they say, is plenty, but competent enlighteners are few and so those few must work harder and smarter instead of enlightening in vain because they are not really with light.

The mob follow what best appeals to them, and in light of not many workers adequately promoting light, the mob flounder in the dark because that is all they have appealing to them.

The art is in making the light appeal to the mob, and if they are not following that light, then perhaps that light is dim and not bright enough. The light people should therefore put in more effort to put their light on a stand and make the light brighter so the mob will see and follow it instead of blaming their own inadequacies and lack of ability to enlighten on the mob.

If you do not participate, you are indeed being governed, but if you do take responsibility and participate even if it's just by casting a vote and electing the representatives, then you are the government, and your elected representatives serve at your pleasure.
