Can you please share with us some of the expected benefits of free float naira? Kindly highlight short term long term benefits in your opinion.
Nigeria would stop subsidising our currency for selected people for starts! How can it be fair that some get CBN rate when the rest of us black market? angry CBN should not be the bank of the wealthy alone, its not fair!

Long term benefit is our currency will be valued by the market. And the market's incentive to value it will be a reflection of our own productivity, which, if properly empowered and incentivised, can easily increase.

This is the time to free float our currency and be rid of the parallel market. It might hit 1k but will find its level in the end which would be good, imo, but Naijans won't like the shock.
Christianity Etc › Re: Questions For Budaatum: How Can You Follow Jesus Without Believing In Him? by budaatum: 11:01pm On Mar 15, 2020
budaatum:
I've said this so many times but it seems to just go over your head, I wonder why! You do not need to seek proof before you believe. In fact, the fact that you have not sought proof is the reason that you can believe or not, if you knew you would know and not just believe. There is afterall a level of confidence you'd have if you were certain a thing is true because you had checked for yourself and its likely more than what you'd have if you never bothered. Just that some choose to believe and some don't believe. But if you are the sort that needs evidence before you can accept a thing is true then you will “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened", even the mystery of "Jehovah is God, and He is in heaven" if that is what you need to know.

Do note that is not to say everybody must seek or not believe. Some people can't seek or just don't seek and are blessed, says the word, just that not using your talents and abilities, if God gave you any, is like worshipping God with a tithe in my opinion, and not giving it all to the poor and following Christ.

That's not possible if they're to remain a member of the UN!

Freedom of speech, expression and worship. Everyone should be allowed to express themselves. There is no way they can enforce such a law without having to do with the freedom of other religions.

They need to know that ATHEISM is another RELIGION on it's own, as long as people can be persuaded and convinced to embrace it.

So if there is freedom to talk about God, there should be freedom as well to question his whereabout, that's what makes the freedom of speech expression and worship balance!

Otherwise they will have to start dictating how people should be dressed, when the people should eat and other useless rules all in the name of combating disbelief in God, and since all religions don't share the same line of thought it will just be as if a time bomb is kept hidden awaiting explosion! embarassed

Lol. Ambitious enough to want to be President?

I think Tinubu is more ambitious than to want to be President and not too stupid to think we'd vote for him.

Hmm,another proof Tinubu's press release has got you. I was in primary school and was quite conscious of my environment and all the happenings in Nigeria in the same 80s. Buhari and idiagbon also visited my town and passed in front of my school when brigadier ola one's parent died. We liked on the streets to receive him. He succeeded in arresting and jailing non fulanis and left almost all the fulanis who served under shagari untouched. That's by the way. If you're not seeing the high level of corruption in this government, I've seen enough, from electoral fraud to misappropriation of funds. I hope you heard recently that Buhari wanted to give 100m usd largesse to bagudu who once laundered money for Abacha and was jailed in the USA for same purpose, the secret which broke out when the deed was about to be done. Please stop hiding , you're for Tinubu and apc. I'm sure you know tunubu isn't free to enter aso villa again as he was the moment Buhari took office as the cabal who suddenly surfaced after Buhari won have blocked his way. His wife oluremi's late last year's disgrace was another proof when Buhari shoned her as she was trying to greet the man in a function.
You spoiled it with your "left almost all the fulanis who served under shagari untouched", and killed it with "heard recently that Buhari wanted to give 100m usd largesse to bagudu". Did you ignore when he said its lies and you shouldn't listen to rumours?

Nor should you make things up inside your head and believe it is the truth. For your information, I am for bubu, and not Tinubu nor APC! Aregbe, my state governor, did not pay many months salary and many died because of it. It's just unfortunate that PDP before them squandered a lot more.

Even if bubu was as corrupt as you believe, its no where near the level of the previous government. And I confess, that pleases me immensely.

I find it amusing that some think he can possibly decide to run for president or that any party would have him. Has it been forgotten that APC is a coalition of parties each led by powerful influential people?

In Osun State Jagaban is seen as the looter of our allocation, him and his O'sidekick. We just hope our new Governor will tell him where to go.

Its because he's been fooling those following him all along...and with this piece, its obvious he has succeeded in fooling you too. I can't forget the way he lured us into accepting buhari. Tinubu is the most political scammer ever lived.
"Fooling", is one way to look at it indeed. And since I do not consider myself easily fooled, you can perhaps understand why I'd consider him wise?

I was not lured into accepting Buhari because of Tinubu like you were. I lived through Bubu Phase 1 in 84 and knew what I was getting. The Shagari government he kicked out then was as incompetent but less corrupt than the PDP he kicked out in Phase 2. Bubu's 8 years is a good thing to have in our history as far as I am concerned or we would be corruption on steroids by now, and no sensible person could possibly believe it was sustainable.

Tinubu is not my favorite. I in fact dislike him so much I often call him Jaguda!

Understand "his ways of using words", to mean "his wise way of speaking", the sort the wise will understand. He said "let there be" to those it concerns and I happen to think there will be. And since he must have been talking in that same language before today, I understand why he is so influential, despite my dislike of him.
Christianity Etc › Re: Egyptian Parliament (allegedly) Moves To Make Atheism A Crime by budaatum(op): 6:07pm On Mar 15, 2020
budaatum:
The Egyptian parliament's committee on religion has announced plans to make disbelief in God a crime. Under the current law against "contempt of religions" atheists can be prosecuted for expressing their disbelief in public but the committee's proposal would go further and criminalise disbelief itself.

In 2014, little more than a week after Abdel-Fattah el-Sisi was sworn in as Egypt’s president, the government announced that it was preparing a national plan to “confront and eliminate” atheism. A few months later Al-Shabab, a government-linked newspaper, stated that atheists were “the country’s second enemy after the Muslim Brotherhood”, and quoted a psychologist saying that “atheism leads to mental imbalances and paranoia”.

As part of its effort to suppress the Muslim Brotherhood the Sisi regime began promoting a version of Islam that is often characterised as “moderate” – though “militantly mainstream” might be a better term. Theologically speaking it is middle-of the-road and relatively bland but, like the regime itself, it is also authoritarian in character.

The result of this is a kind of enforced centrism. While allowing some scope for tolerance – of other monotheistic religions, for example – it confines religious discourse to the middle ground. While the main purpose of this is to sideline Islamist theology, at the other end of the spectrum it has led to atheism, scepticism and liberal interpretations of Islam being treated as forms of extremism.

Saudi Arabia adopted a similar position in 2014 when “promotion of atheist thought” became officially classified as an act of terrorism.

Atheism in the Arab countries is generally viewed by the public with horror – so to some extent the Egyptian regime is playing a populist card. Small and relatively defenceless minorities such as atheists are an easy target and portraying them as a threat to the nation's well-being helps to divert attention from the regime's failings. A similar process was seen in Egypt recently with the moral panic over homosexuality and rainbow flags.

An article in Rose al-Yusuf quotes Amr Hamroush, a member of the parliamentary committee, as saying legislation is needed in order to close down all atheist websites since their ideas "destroy the values of society".

However, even in Egypt the proposal is proving controversial. The article goes on to quote others who point out that while laws can control people's behaviour, they cannot change people's beliefs.

That is indeed the concern, that Ghana won't let you in. And it seems every country will quarantine arrivals by then. It'll be like 14 days in prison.

LordReed:
Well, I really can't fault your line of reasoning my dear buda, I can only hope Europe in general wakes up to the simmering threat under their noses and fight to keep their hard fought freedoms.
The point really is that Europe faces no simmering threat from Islam.

We often lament the fact that history is not taught in our schools, but we hardly mention why we lament it not being taught. History is like a development brick (I'd have said block but you might have missed my meaning). Its like one of the building bricks in the development of the ability to see. A lense through which one looks at the world and sees it.

Europe has an extensive history of ideological invasions. They began with hamlets of independent ideologies and waged wars of ideological domination, which all failed, and even though certain ideologies might have triumphed for a while, none, in the entire history of the human race, has killed out all others.

Europe knows that no ideology can possibly be imposed on independent Europeans who know history so history is aggressively taught. And that ability to use their minds and brains to reason for themselves is cemented in them already.

Or do you think Europe can de-evolve backwards like in the Middle Ages?
