fortran12: So sahih sources are just a single source? I will quote one for this story now.i know it's in sahih bukahari. Will get the reference
Narrated Anas: The Prophet set out for Khaibar and reached it at night. He used not to attack if he reached the people at night, till the day broke. So, when the day dawned, the Jews came out with their bags and spades. When they saw the Prophet; they said, "Muhammad and his army!" The Prophet said, Allahu--Akbar! (Allah is Greater) and Khaibar is ruined, for whenever we approach a nation (i.e. enemy to fight) then it will be a miserable morning for those who have been warned."
Sahih Bukhari 4:52:195 That does not say he attacked them to convert them. Mohammed was a trader. He would be a lousy trader if he attacked everyone who was not a Muslim. |

FrLukas: I just asked you a simple question that requires a yes or no answer but you're throwing Bible verses at me bro.
I haven't read the Qur'an, so I'm just asking for clarification, that's all. It's not a trap. As far as I can tell nowhere is it written that anyone should kill anyone, and those who understand it to are stupid and ignorant. |

einsteine: You are being emotional and defensive. I wonder why you'd say that. I do beg to differ. einsteine: Boko Haram's version of Islam says they should spread Islam by force and violence. Are you happy with that instead? Why would I be happy with stupid people being ignorant? einsteine: In the Bible, God commanded Saul to eliminate an entire race of people, was Saul a murderer? The simple truth is Boko Haram follow Islam (as believed by them). Whether or not their Islam is true or not is not part of the discourse. Love that you say "believed by them". By the way, it is written in the Bible, and we so read, that God commanded Saul to eliminate an entire race of people. My own opinion of that narative is that Saul is a murderer. If I read anywhere that anyone did what Saul did, I'd come to the same conclusion. Are you aware he committed suicide? I'd say that was the wages of his mass murdering sin. einsteine: The lack of acceptance of this would continue to be a problem for Muslims. I have run out of count of the number of Muslim groups who carry out terrorist attacks. So tell me why are there so many groups carrying out murder and mayhem while attempting to spread Islam by fiat? Why not say, Bahiasm or Hinduism or Sikhism or Christianity? How ever many groups you've come across who carry our terrorist attacks, the fact still remains that you have come across more Muslims who have not carried out any terrorist attacks, and no Muslim has ever tried to force you to become a Muslim. Do let me know if I lie. einsteine: . Who are we to believe? You or our own eyes? Do you believe what you see with your own eyes or do you prefer to believe what you make up inside your head or what others tell you? Tell me if you have you met more Muslim terrorists than peaceful terrorists please. |

fortran12: Seems you dont know your own Islamic history. The way he attacked Kybar was to make them acknowledge Allah as God and him as Allah's messenger. All these are found in your Islamic books, hadiths and tafsil You are free to read one single source and believe it. Or you can read various sources and come to your own informed conclusion. But going by how you've decided the above, I'm inclined to think you don't bother at all with any sources.

Here is an example of a "use their heads to reason" person. Rather than little convenient boxes, this person sees the whole human being. cooltola: So you are an agnostic. Arresting an individual for their religious belief is a basic violation of human rights which is terrorism itself. Every religion have some bad eggs does not mean the whole religion is bad. The same way we have some very law binding atheist is the same way we have some atheist who do not have respect human rights. Arresting a person based on their religion belief or their nonbelief is a basic human rights violation and should not be encourage. The most human things is to let people be and never force anyone to accept a belief or nonbelief |

If people reasoned like you do here, we'd claim being from Nigeria makes one a scammer or stupid, which I hope you'd agree is not true. They may be Muslims, just as a murderer can be a Christian, but Einstein brained people would know that Islam or Christianity did not tell them to commit murder. einsteine: Your examples are out of place.
Can we say the Catholic church who killed women for purportedly being witches were not Christians?
Boko Haram is the same. They are a Salafist group, just like Al Qaeda and ISIS. To say they are not Muslims is just ridiculous. Why are they not Muslims? When Uthman Dan Fodio started his Jihad, there were Muslims all over Hausa and Kanuri Land, yet his army killed and rampaged and claimed they were instituting Islam. Should we then say Uthman Dan Fodio was not a Muslim because his army killed people?
If Boko Haram ( hopefully not) successfully conquer the entire Nigeria, would they not institute an Islamic government with strict Sharia rules? Is that not what ISIS does?
In a nut shell, Boko Haram are Muslims. QED. |

FrLukas: I see what you are saying.
Isn't there a portion of the Qur'an where the prophet instructed his followers to kill non believers so that by that means they can gain heaven? See the verses from the Bible that an ignorant person provided to claim God instructed followers to kill. Do you agree that those verses instruct people to kill? If not, why would you refuse to apply the same reasoning to your own misunderstanding and misrepresentation of the Qur'an? “Remember the former things, those of long ago; I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me. I make known the end from the beginning, from ancient times, what is still to come. I say: My purpose will stand, and I will do all that I please” (Isaiah 46:9-10).
“Who can fathom the Spirit of the LORD, or instruct the LORD as his counselor? Whom did the LORD consult to enlighten him, and who taught him the right way? Who was it that taught him knowledge, or showed him the path of understanding?” (Isaiah 40:13-14).
“Before a word is on my tongue you know it completely, O LORD” (Psalm 139:4).
“O LORD, you have searched me and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways” (Psalm 139:1-3).
“My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. How precious to me are your thoughts, God! How vast is the sum of them! Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand—when I awake, I am still with you” (Psalm 139:15-16).
“Can anyone teach knowledge to God, since he judges even the highest?” (Job 21:22).
“He determines the number of the stars and calls them each by name. Great is our Lord and mighty in power; his understanding has no limit” (Psalm 147:4-5).
“And you, my son Solomon, acknowledge the God of your father, and serve him with wholehearted devotion and with a willing mind, for the LORD searches every heart and understands every desire and every thought. If you seek him, he will be found by you; but if you forsake him, he will reject you forever” (1 Chronicles 28:9).
“Do you know how the clouds hang poised, those wonders of him who has perfect knowledge?” (Job 37:16).
“From heaven the LORD looks down and sees all mankind; from his dwelling place he watches all who live on earth—he who forms the hearts of all, who considers everything they do” (Psalm 33:13-15).
“Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out!” (Romans 11:33).
“Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account” (Hebrews 4:13).
“Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows” (Luke 12:7).
“Whenever our hearts condemn us. For God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything” (1 John 3:20).
“Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from the will of your Father. And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered” (Matthew 10:29-30). |

There are millions of Mosque to bomb in the North then few Churches. Yet nothing like that do happening. Good question. Though extend it to why kill anyone at all? I'd say, power, and the desire to control resources. They don't really care if you are Muslim or Christians so long as they are the one's in charge calling the shots. You don't have a patent or copyright over Islam. You can say their understanding of Islam is wrong but they are Muslims. The identity of people are by what they self-identify as, not what you think of them or want us to think of them. They are a terrorist group who claim to be Muslims. They may identify themselves as Muslims but that does not make them Muslims, just as I may identify myself as a Christian but not love my neighbours. The identity of a person is not what they think they are but what they actually are! Or can I be an armed robber and you accept I am a self identified saint?

FrLukas: The Christian teachings are gotten from the teachings of Jesus Christ who was the founder of Christianity
The old testament is mainly a compendium that recorded a people's history concerning their religious practices, cultural practices, war strategies etc.
That they claim, that God spoke to them to kill such and such doesn't mean that we believe that God actually spoke to them to do such.
It is nothing more than how the people saw themselves and their history.
Note that Christianity has a root in Judaism, same as Islam.
You want to know what Christian teaching is, focus on the 4 Gospels of the New Testament.
Compare Jesus's teachings with that of Mohammed.
Compare Jesus's lifestyle to that of Mohammed.
Both were the founders of the two major religions in the world.
See the difference? But I'm sure you see how your view of Islam and the Quran and boko haram mirrors the ignorant view of the person I quoted for you, right? |

'cept the fact that the Qur'an actually commands the killing of "infidels" makes the supposed "narrow views" of Boko Haram members the true Islamic view, and moderate Moslems a water down view.
The events of Jones town that you referenced does not in anyway mesh with the teachings of Jesus the Christ, nor his way of life while on earth.
Same cannot be said for radical islam and the prophet that founded Islam.
He conquered territories with the Qur'an in one hand and sword in the other.
He took slaves, and encouraged slavery.
I stand to be corrected. Funny. See here someone saying the same, that God in the Bible orders killings. I wonder if you would agree.
