Maximus69:I don't think I get you. There was always scripture to read and learn from, which even Jesus did and taught from too, and thousands of books have followed from which to learn from. I've attached one for you. Those with eyes see the straight line drawn from Moses to Samson to David to the Prophets to Jesus as their examples today. |
1Sharon:Everyone was polytheistic to begin with, monotheism being an advanced ideology even amongst the Jews. Except we now read a scripture that has been sanitised to remove the other gods. The clue is in God being jealous. If there were no other gods God would have nothing to be jealous of. |
Sheunma:This does not mean "do not use your mind and brain". It simply means "seek ye first the Kingdom of God", and God shall direct your path. God will not give you abilities then tell you not to use them! |
orunto27:How does one "pray with all your Heart, with all your Soul, with all your Mind and with all your Strength". Perhaps imagine I were your child. How would you explain the above to me so that at the end I have knowledge and wisdom? |
OkCornel:No! I know you said dont but it most definitely had its significance, which we are trying to work out, to the glory of God. |
Sheunma:No! You are in error! Christianity, or shall I say, my own understanding of scripture does not advocate what you have above! It is in fact written that if God gives me a mind to reason and a brain to think and I refuse to use them as you suggest, even the little that I am given will be taken away from me and I will be "worthless, outside in the darkness weeping and gnashing my teeth." |
OkCornel:Is this not what I'm arguing, as opposed to "instantaneous baptism, dove, gbam"? |
OkCornel:Why, "absolutely not"? He had a mother who was well read and whom the Lord sent angels too. Should we expect she would have taught him nothing and all his ministry came from a dove at his baptism? |
OkCornel:I do not know what part the baptism played, specifically, but I do not think all his learning dropped on him like a dove at his baptism. If he had not learned prior to the 3.5 years he likely would not have known what was written and would have fallen immediately he was tempted. |
OkCornel:So, it is not the case that he was being prepared before the baptism and the dove? Did he not show he was filled with the Holy Spirit when he disputed with the learned in the temple, after which he continued to grow in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man? |
malvisguy212:I doubt anyone prays if they do not believe in God, though, there are those who hope but do not believe in God. But yes, rain may fall or not whether one prays or not since one has no control over what God does or does not do or upon the weather. It is for this exact reason that we hope our prayers are answered. Shall one hope to acquire knowledge and wisdom? Is there no guaranteed hard work that one can do to acquire knowledge and wisdom? |
orunto27:malvisguy212 has pointed out that some "hard work" needs to be done, and somehow, I do not think 'praying hard' is what is meant. What does "prayer" mean in this instance, the reward of which is knowledge and wisdom? How does one "pray" to receive wisdom? |
malvisguy212:No one plants before rains start unless they plan to irrigate. And farmers are not generally stupid enough to put their crop in the ground unless rains first fall. The evidence for the answered prayer is the rainfall, and not the belief of the farmers. We farmers know this. As is said, "they who watch the weather will never sow", so we watch time instead. We plant maize when the rains start in March on the offchance that it will continue long enough for our crop to grow and yield a bumper harvest. When the weather favours us, we harvest in May then plant our main crop when rain is more guaranteed to fall. And if it does not favour us our March crop burns in the ground. And to be honest, its hit and miss like betnja. Sometimes we win. Sometime we lose. Is wisdom acquisition hit and miss too? |
OkCornel:You insist without considering. Hear the words of his well read mother as echoed from Hannah's Prayer. If he was born of the Holy Spirit why would he only receive it when baptised? Was he not empowered from when he was in his mother's womb? |
bingbagbo:Perhaps you should seek understanding instead of doing that which satan does and shudders.
|
bingbagbo:
|
OkCornel:Are you sure he did not inherit the Holy Spirit at birth from his mother Mary, whom the Holy Ghost came upon?
|
malvisguy212:Yes, I do know I have to study to pass my exams. In fact, the answer to my prayer to pass my exams is "Go and study!" The message to me from God. So, why did you say all I had to do was "ask God" and "believe" if you now say I must do some hard work? What "hard work" must one do to have ones "understanding opened by Jesus"? |
malvisguy212:So, one does not get wisdom just by "asking God" and just by "believing", one must do some hard work too? Please explain the nature of the "hard work" one must do to get wisdom. |
Maximus69:"Taking note of how they do things and imitating them" is precisely the meaning of serving as an apprentice, and is a form of learning, though there are other ways to learn, like studying what learned people have written. |
Maximus69:So, serve an apprenticeship? Learn from others? |
bingbagbo:That, indeed is what they call those who use their God given brain. In Jesus time, you would say there are demons in us. We forgive you because you know not what you say.
|
Maximus69:I take it that by "walking", you mean "learning"? |
I hope this continues to come up until the mystery is revealed. All through the Gospels, Jesus never said he was God. We actually admire him for his humility in not making such a claim, though, as a Jew, he would never have stupidly disobeyed the first commandment that states how jealous God can be. Yet, today, we appear to have unquestionably bought into the idea that Jesus is God and at the same time not questioning whether we have broken the second commandment. It is indeed a sign of immaturity to not reason with ones mind and think with ones brain, but we surely grow and will one day understand what exactly is meant when it is said that "Jesus is the Word". |
NLmember: johnydon22:Reminds me of when I use to have an imaginary million pounds in my bank account with which I intended to buy a spanking brand new red Ferrari, except I could never find a Ferrari salesperson who would accept my million pounds. Don't worry Johny. Reality is one of those things that experience eventually reveals. |
malvisguy212:Doubt that God will drop wisdom on someones head just because they ask? Please explain what hard work has to do with it? |
How does one get Wisdom? |
malvisguy212:One gets knowledge and wisdom from God by just "believing"? Interesting! |
Charmingrascal:Probe him more than anyone before him too. If my sai bubu is dirty, his punishment must be greater than anyone elses ever. There is only one pity however. APC will not probe him and PDP can't probe him, unless EFCC is totally independent. |
12inchess:They do not have to seize your assets in Nigeria as you have way more than enough abroad to cover it. Please learn a bit about Argentina and its constant defaults. You'd be surprised to learn Naija is doing well compared. The Argentine Peso used to be par with the dollar and is now worth just 1.7 cents, having lost 68% of its value against the U.S. dollar in the last year and a half. |
