tctrills:Nigerians have not revolted many times. What we do is protest, and that is not the same as a revolution, which is the successful uprising of the people and a change of the status quo. If we want to consider our revolutions, the revolt against the British for independence would be one instance, and June 12 that resulted in democracy would be another. The Biafra War would have been a third, but it was unsuccessful, and would be a revolt, but not a revolution per se. As for revolutions " not necessarily making things better", that depends. Many would tell you Eve revolting against the lie that nourishing herself with knowledge would result in her death was not better, but the evidence, that she and her husband became self-employed and went on to populate the earth, and lived for almost 1000 years, is better in my book, but I guess that might be because I abhor slavery. |
tctrills:China, Egypt, and Russia have had many revolutions throughout their history, and they definitely did improve the societies for many of their people, you'd find if you studied their histories before and after. I'll list a few at the end for you to read. The lot of the revolters were always better than it was prior to their successful revolt. tctrills:You seem to be mixing a coup, which Nigeria has had many of, with a revolution of the people, which Nigeria has not had any of unless you want to count the revolution that gave us our independence. The Russian Revolution was a period of political and social change in the Russian Empire, starting in 1917. This period saw Russia abolish its monarchy and adopt a socialist form of government following two successive revolutions and a bloody civil war. The Russian Revolution can also be seen as the precursor for the other European revolutions that occurred during or in the aftermath of World War I, such as the German Revolution of 1918–1919. The 1911 Revolution, also known as the Xinhai Revolution or Hsinhai Revolution, ended China's last imperial dynasty, the Qing dynasty, and led to the establishment of the Republic of China. The revolution was the culmination of a decade of agitation, revolts, and uprisings. Its success marked the collapse of the Chinese monarchy, the end of over two millennia of imperial rule in China and over 200 years of the Qing dynasty, and the beginning of China's early republican era. When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves. |
tctrills:I think you mean protests do not necessarily make society better. A revolution is a successful protest that changes the status quo, and by nature, it does make society better. |
IamDjfocus:I wonder how true this is, as what time scale you are measuring over. One indicator, I think, would be life expectancy, and that isn't depreciating at all. IamDjfocus:The Ogun and Sango we relied on, or do you mean the new religions of Islam and Christianity? |
Blaze14k:Personally, I don't believe Nigeria will ever break up, and nor do I believe it will solve our problems, since we'd still, in our break up, elect the same leaders as we do now. But even to get to break up point, we'd still need to have suffered to the point where we'd elect leaders who would break us up, and that is not going to happen anytime soon. As for your "PDP handled our differences quite well", I can only but sadly say Chibok Girls and dollars in soakaways and Deziani, to mention a few of their handlings for you to consider, and ask if PDP were not Nigerian politicians you claimed I don't understand. |
Blaze14k:I love the respectful way you are telling me I am ignorant while I am trying to educate you. When we Nigerians are tired of the external force of hunger, I am certain you'd either change how you think and choose your leaders better or die of the hunger and suffering they serve you. I just can't accept you'd always be so helpless or that your great great..... great grandchildren will be helpless, not all the way up till 3024. |
Blaze14k:I think you mean "if I understand the way our people think", since our politicians don't come from Mars but are just people like you and I. Point is, after we elect politicians who continue to increase our suffering and hunger, we would eventually open our eyes and elect better leaders or suffer and die. The choice is entirely ours. |
Emeka511:You saw big cow in the abattoir and put knife to it thinking it got fat on drinking only water, it seems. Guess you'd learn how much it cost to feed it eventually . |
tctrills:Perhaps not, but your claim that the English did not revolt is false. The English in fact adopted democracy so their citizens can peacefully revolt at election if they so wish to. |
I very much doubt they'd be so stupid to do what has been found to fail. The gold standard was largely abandoned during the Great Depression before being re-instated in a limited form as part of the post-World War II Bretton Woods system. The gold standard was abandoned due to its propensity for volatility, as well as the constraints it imposed on governments: by retaining a fixed exchange rate, governments were hamstrung in engaging in expansionary policies to, for example, reduce unemployment during economic recessions. |
Where Did God Come From?Gods come from the amazing ingenuity of the human mind, and shows how creative we can be. |
Blaze14k:What you are saying is, "we Nigerians can never do what is required to attain such heights", and I strongly disagree with you, though I do agree with your "effort of external force". Suffer and hunger are external forces which I have faith our leaders will increase over time, and I have faith that our suffering and hunger will make us change or die. Projected date of change, 3024. |
I think the fact you haven't filled this post since Sep 2023 should suggest to you that you are not offering a good enough pay or the post is ill designed. A person with CorelDraw skills wouldn't be a secretary. And if they do they'd soon leave for a better post and pay. https://www.nairaland.com/7846455/front-desk-computer-operator-coreldraw#125897146

tctrills:Really? The Peasants’ Revolt 1381 The First Barons' War (1215–1217) was a civil war in the Kingdom of England in which a group of rebellious major landowners (commonly referred to as barons) led by Robert Fitzwalter waged war against King John of England. The conflict resulted from King John's disastrous wars against King Philip II of France, which led to the collapse of the Angevin Empire, and John's subsequent refusal to accept and abide by Magna Carta, which John had sealed on 15 June 1215. |

I think it's 'made' for the gullible Nigerian market where little knowledge of physics applies. https://everipedia.org/wiki/lang_en/ecotech-fueless-generator |
elated177:Out of interest, did you have a bad mother who showed you the wrong model for women? |
Hmm. Perhaps we need to start reporting the liars and fakenewsers on Nairaland for cyber bullying too. Seun should take note and enforce his rules. |
You need to go and educate yourself on how men have used this your stupid belief to oppress women all through history. I can just about see you arguing that Europeans were created to have spiritual authority over Africans too, and that I should see how badly African countries are doing now they are independent.
|
Kemistri3:And I assume you'd arrogantly subtly let him know he is being unreasonable? A better option is to ask where you failed so you can pass next time. |
Dude is just a pig. And no, there are no credible reports of them divorcing, yet. |
There is, thankfully, no honour amongst thieves. |
The Asian Bank Award must be for the most scamming African bank. They likely award it to the bank that helps scam Nigerians the most. |
