Nigeria has constantly had double digit inflation, and its cause is productivity not keeping up with consumption. If it weren't for that, we wouldn't even be talking about buying a Lexus ES 330 2006, but would instead be talking about buying a Made in Nigeria 2024 car that its Nigerian makers got paid an inflation busting wage to make. Instead, we are taking our low wage to buy what is thrown away by others.

But I'm not blaming the buyer. I even commended the buyer for being in a position of owning a car he bought for 3.6m that is now worth 9m, which makes him a savvy investor if he sells.

In fact, if the person who bought one for 3.6m waits a little, they'd likely be able to sell it for 18 and then buy a cheaper car than a Lexus.

You shouldn't really save up to buy an education, nor land for that matter, if you have any sense.

You buy the education in small increments as soon as you have a little. And the increment in knowledge you bought should improve your income so you can more easily buy the next level.

And the land can be bought with a fixed interest loan so its cost to you does not increase with time. You might even find you are still paying off a 3.6m loan while the land you bought is now 9m.

You'd own the land which will continue to appreciate, and the education you bought which will unfix your salary so it rises above inflation.

The land and the education are assets, note, while the Lexus ES 330 2006 is more like something you consume and that will depreciate.

Not wise, I'd think, to buy a Lexus ES 330 2006, when even the maintenance cost is not fixed. The wise would rather buy land and build a house to save on constantly growing rent, or invest it in educating oneself so one's salary is not fixed.

Oga, I don't believe in that entitlement stuff you are talking because is their nothing equal ownership of company by citizens. Companies are owned by those who have interest and will the benefit owning a company that claims to be privately owned yet government with being the primary product which subsidy has been removed yet subsidy is been paid.
As I have said earlier, the Petroleum Industry Acts (PIA 2021) was supposed to commercialize NNPC i.e NNPC will be limited liability company making profits for it's shareholders with government having a minority and the private sector holding the rest and not a nationalized government organization selling petrol at loss and recovering with subsidy.
Now, you become the owner of company when you subscribe to it's share with money becoming shareholder expecting profits and profits can only made when NNPC sells petrol at market price without subsidy and not NNPC selling below market price. So, Nigerians owning shares in NNPC thinking that it will make NNPC petrol cheaper than Dangote or any other private refinery is an illusion.
Currently, NNPCL is private company run by Tinubu through Oando and Co.

First, know that I never said "Nigerians owning shares in NNPC thinking that it will make NNPC petrol cheaper". In fact, I think it will make petrol more expensive, since shareholders would want profit so they get paid dividends.

The current 'shareholders' of NNPC is Nigerian citizens. And those shares can be said to be held in trust for Nigerians by the Federal Government who shares its dividends to the three levels of government where it is supposed to benefit Nigerians.

If NNPC is sold, that benefit will stop, and accrue only to those who have the funds to purchase it's shares, and I doubt I need argue whom those people would be. "Tinubu through Oando and Co" would likely buy it and keep all the profit for themselves.

We'd likely live longer and evolve quicker too.
