lexy2014: how did Tinubu not have a choice in the matter when to remove subsidy? I said I doubt he had a choice. Nigeria had already accepted and spent money from donors to help alleviate the expected subsidy removal, so it would have been odd to renege on a deal. Besides, as said, I would have not laid a brick for my refinery without an agreement on subsidy removal, because government subsidy will not pay back my invested funds plus profit, and if it did, Nigerians would lynch me. lexy2014: how has Nigeria fared better so far? Odd question this. Please know that I did not build my refinery so that Nigeria you could feel better. I built my refinery because I saw an opportunity in the Nigeria market to make money and increase my wealth. Hopefully, when I am wealthier from selling petrol, I might invest my wealth in saying "let there be uninterrupted light in Nigeria". But trust me when I say even that is so I can sell that light to Nigerians at an unsubsidised price so my wealth increases further. lexy2014: how many investors have built refineries or indicated interest in building refineries because subsidy has been removed? Not many, I suppose, since not everyone is brave enough to make the investment agreements Dangote made, or seen the opportunity Dangote saw, or has the connection Dangote has, or even have the knowledge to build a refinery like Dangote has done. It's after all not likely that you'd find lots of Dangotes in most countries. |

coleon: Stop spitting nonsense, refineries worked in this country and I grew up buying Nigeria fuel in my dad's car. I don't expect a genz to know that anyway. Infact I went on excursion to warri refinery and I saw petroleum being refined live from the catalytic cracker. Some people went to Temitope Joshua and saw him raise dead people too, but the fact you assume my gen kind of makes me not accept your word for it. Fact is, if our refineries produced the petrol we require, we would not have been subsidising petrol importation as we've done for decades now. |
Politics › Re: Tinubu’s Abrupt Subsidy Removal Caused Hardship – Sagay by budaatum: 6:43am On Feb 10, 2024 |
coleon: Was the price of fuel #700 before Dangote and BUA started building their refineries abi what nonsense are you saying. No it wasn't. But after they build their refinery with the money they borrowed and have to pay back plus the return on their investment, I'm certain they hoped the price would rise so it's profitable for them. And the first thing I would have done before laying the very first brick if I were them is get an agreement on fuel subsidy because government no de pay, and I'd rather place my investment on market forces. coleon: What about port Harcourt and warri refineries built over 30 years ago, have they removed subsidy before the refineries were built? I wonder how much Port Harcourt and warri refineries petrol you have ever put in a car. In fact, homework. How much petrol have Port Harcourt and Warri Refineries produced in the thirty years they were built? coleon: The truth is the government is lazy and bereft of ideas and only took the easy way out. If the military can build refineries without removal of subsidy, why is the civilian government unable to do same? The refineries your military built do not work I don't think.

I doubt Tinubu had a choice in the matter when to remove subsidy. I can't see anyone investing ₦10b+ building a refinery without first making sure they can sell at market price, which is higher than subsidised price. Investors aren't usually that stupid with their money.
Hardship? I wonder what he'd say when other subsidies are removed, like the subsidy to employers of labour that distorts wages called Youth Corp! |

Politics › Re: Soyinka...the Nobel Fraud by budaatum: 9:22pm On Feb 07, 2024 |
I think blaming Soyinka or any one individual is irresponsible, since they never forced anyone to vote for their preferred candidate. It's like blaming the person who told you to put your hands in fire when fire burns your hands.
Responsible people would reassess the reasons for their choice against the results they get, and reconsider their criteria for next time so they may get better results. And that's the beauty of democracy, in that it gives you an opportunity to choose better every 4 years.
My hope is that by 2027, we'd be wiser in choosing who rules us. But if we haven't suffered enough by then and learnt to choose our leaders wisely, there's always 2031, and 2035, and 2039 and ........
One day, we will surely learn to use our PVCs wiser than we've used it in the past or die through not trying. |

Someone else wrote this..... Someone else wrote this, but it sums it up:
Trump promised to build a wall. He only did 458 miles out of 2,000. Most of it was repair or replacement, not new. He promised to make Mexico pay. They didn't.
He promised to cut the deficit. He added $8T to it.
He promised to unveil a new health care plan. It didn't exist.
He promised a middle class tax cut. He cut taxes for the rich. The middle class is paying for it.
He said he wouldn't play golf as President. He made 250 visits(way more than Obama) to his own golf clubs. It cost taxpayers $150 million.
He said he'd increase economic growth by 4%. He didn't. President Biden did.
He promised an infrastructure plan. He had none. President Biden signed a massive one.
He promised to hire "the best people." He fired 3/4 of them, and then said they were the worst ever.
He promised to bring down the price of prescription drugs. He didn't: President Biden did.
He promised to Hillary lock up . It didn't happen.
Promised we'd win the trade war with China. We didn't, cost about a quarter million jobs and hurt Americans not help them.
He promised his corporate tax cuts would help and benefit worker and corporations would use that money to invest in American workers. They didn't, they used that money to buy back stocks .
He promised to bring back and revive the coal industry. Never happened more coal jobs lost during his presidency.
He promised to drain the swamp. He didn't: He WAS the swamp.
And yet these dopes in the house will do anything to please him. |

Matrix137: I will care for anybody as long as the person is part of the body of Christ and I have the financial capacity irrespective of the congregants wealth or social status exactly as the early churches did it.
The grave doesn't ask you for your denomination before it accepts you, does it? You are not asking about your death but for your daily bread. And considering you've confessed to begging here doesn't exactly suggest you have been helping anyone financially. If it were the God written about in the Holy Bible that called you, you'd have been told that you should care for all of God's creations and not only those who are part of your body of Christ, and not knowing that might make God not reward you.

Bullfallo: The told is deregulation will make fuel cheaper like sim card. I think anyone who believed this in the short term should have their head checked. What deregulation might do us reduce fuel shortages eventually, though, and only if Nigeria stops importing and converts it's own crude to fuel, and if petrol sellers can sell at market price, which would be much more than current price. Until then, expect to pay a lot more and never expect it to be as cheap as it was before government stopped partly paying to fill your tank for you. |

Obrigardo: With Mr Clearance in the majority, no one trusts this court. But if they ever decide to hear this case and make a decision it should be unanimous. But trust christofascist alito and Clearance to differ. The Appeals court opinion was so bare and absolute, even the Scotus majority just can't find anyway around it. Ruling a president is immune from being prosecuted for a crime is really like claiming they are to be immune from impeachment too. I doubt even Clearance would stoop so low, but I'm open to be surprised.

You caveated yourself with "if it's God's will" because you yourself have doubts. Nigeria's development does not depend on God's will, but on the will of we the people who either choose development or our own destruction, though being the irresponsible beings we are, we refuse to accept this simple fact.
