PrideofLincoln2: A lot of good Republicans are disgusted now with what is going on in the Party of Lincoln. That's why Lincoln Project was formed couple years ago so they can counter the effects of damage Donald Trump will unleash on their Party. The more Trump speaks out, the better for Democrats. I waited over two hours to vote in a blistering snowy and windy Chicago winter last November and will wait 6 or 8 hours next year to tell the Nazis and Klans in America that their days of bigotry and divisiveness is over. Meanwhile, the unpaid Coons will still be foaming in the mouth on Nairaland where they only count courtesy of that N200 data.
basilico: Very sad. Trump called Georgia governor to ask him about the questionable votes . I posted a letter asking the governor Raspenberger to initiate an audit, after Tucker Carlson showed a video showing Ruby Freeman, her daughter Vandrea Moss and Co were caught on CCTV double counting votes from a suitcase they pulled out of the table, after they had sent everyone out for the night. An audit showed double counted votes. The governor recorded the call, leaked it to the media, then deleted it , but the actual call was retrieved from the trash can. PBXs record calls on demand, the idiot did not empty his trash folder.
bjdon: Do you see any iota of education occuring? For goodness sake we have been running this democracy since 1999 and we actually worse off today than we were then.
I see quite a lot of education occuring, thank you very much. I alone do a lot of teaching and do see the result of my teaching, and I bet that Nairalanders in the hundreds have learnt a lot here too though far be it for me to go talking for anyone. Open a thread. Ask if people have become educated on Nairaland or not. See what you get.
bjdon: The rule of law has completely broken down.
As in, we ourselves have become lawless. . I agree
bjdon: Even if by some miracle, a quality person like NOI were to become president, do you think they would let her work?
You call her "a quality person" so yes, they will let her work.
If she is a "quality person" and were to become president, we who appreciate quality that we know Nigeria has never had, will stand by her side so they let her work.
I can see it already. The old mamas marching with their tits out to confront any assembly that stands in her way. You know men will cower in fear!
As for not being ready, I believe that if we try harder we'd be ready by the election after the next or the one after that so long as we go on learning and working towards the change that we want to see.
Electors. In 2016 2 went rogue. Trump got 304 instead of 306. Precedent set which some states said they should not go rogue. There were 86 cases filed with clearly sure evidence of fuckery in the tallies. Governor's and SoS approved electors, but the state legislatures disagreed and sent their competing electors. Uncharted territory, Im made to understand that Mike Pence should have allowed for debate by Congress/senate members who rose to oppose several state electors based on the competing ones. There should have been a two hour debate for each objection. 10 states that amounts to twenty hours and a decision on the state college votes per each delegation. The certification by law should have gone on till all issues were resolved by voting in the full house congress and senate. If there was a stalemate, remember GoP still held the Senate then Pence should have sent the delegates back to the states for them to decide on whom to vote for Failure to agree , then the house should have voted with each state entitled to one vote.
Correct me if I'm wrong and give your take. Factually without emotions
But unfortunately powerful leftist liberals got to Pence and turned him into a Democrat on Jan 6!
Brian47: Even if she runs, Nigerians would never vote for her. Take Ezekwsili for instance she's been running for president since 2015's election and she's only gotten like 20 votes in 2015's elections and 2019's elections.
They should join forces, team up, strength in numbers and all.
bjdon: "Are you saying we are not yet sufficiently intelligent enough to use democracy to provide ourselves with the leadership that will change the course to where we would willingly choose to follow?".......That is exactly what I am saying unfortunately. Was it Nigerian voters who voted for Buhari TWICE. A man who has shown no ability whatsoever to lead a complex country like Nigeria. What of the national assembly? Is it not the same Nigerian voters that vote for the senators and reps, who pass laws to legalize looting? Look at 2023, is it not the same Nigerian voters who have STILL not learnt their lesson, and would rather pick a president based on which ethnic group they belong to rather than what qualities they bring to the role. We are simply not ready for democracy. We need focused dictatorship for at least another 20 years
So we have a couple of years to the next election. If we begin to educate ourselves now nkọ?
We'll at least acquire a taste for dictating to ourselves. We might work much harder to achieve it say in 10 years if we found it good for food, instead of hoping a dictator will force what we most likely wouldn't want on us in 20.
bjdon: Please wake up and smell the coffee. Nigeria is a lawless country. Sensible international investors will never come here unless the entire legal and regulatory framework is overhauled. You need to stop thinking that this current democratic system can provide the leadership the country needs. It cant. We need a complete change of course, a firm dictator who will rule with an iron fist and ensure the rule of law is totally adhered to. Anything else is just more of the same.
Are you saying we are not yet sufficiently intelligent enough to use democracy to provide ourselves with the leadership that will change the course to where we would willingly choose to follow?
Then we better start learning because if you remember, we fought really hard for this democracy so its a bit too soon to be running back to Abacha!
On saying that, the irony of running back to Buhari doesn't elude me, and to Obasanjo, so if President Abacha had lived say lol.
Discipline yourselves, people. We should be too old to be undisciplined!
We cannot be satisfied as long as basic mobility is from a smaller ghetto to a larger one. We can never be satisfied as long as our children are stripped of their selfhood and robbed of their dignity by signs stating: for men only.
So even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the dream. I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all humans are created equal.
Pogacar speaks: “It’s unbelievable ... after yesterday, today, I don’t know - I felt good and I’m really happy with the win ... it’s crazy. It’s a game for me, of course, it’s been a game since I started [cycling] and I’m enjoying playing it, yeah, I’m super happy ... maybe 50 per cent chance [of winning the Tour] it’s still three days, but it looks good ... It was super hard ... I just tried to forget about everything and focus.”
Is he worried about Vingegaard before the TT on Saturday? “Why should I be worried? ... Sometimes you can have a really bad day on a TT ... let’s hope it’s not a repeat [of what he did to Roglic last year].”
SaintBishop: Who is going to vote for an igbo person to be president of Nigeria? Not me lol.
budaatum: For all you care ethnicity is very important to you. You'll be surprised however to find that some people care more about competency than ethnicity, and my hope is that those people will not stand by and let those for whom ethnicity is more important decide the next election.
As for being on ground, we live in a global world these days, which is why we can influence elections wherever we may be, and if I tried hard enough, I just might be able to educate you on the folly of ethnicity over competency so the former is less important to you than the latter. I'm however aware I can't convince or educate everyone, note, because some people are just plain uneducatable, though I'm inclined to believe you are moveable.
You can let me know if I'm wrong so I can change my belief about you please.
Brian47: Ngozi left her post in the world bank before to come and become minister of finance and economy during Goodluck's regime. And what she suffered from the hands of politicians for fighting corruption eh, I doubt she would want to serve her country again.
I think she will sacrifice herself for us if we asked her but we must not allow her to sacrifice herself by doing our fair share of the work.
I will gladly follow her lead more than anyone else I can currently think of. Wouldn't you?
bjdon: 2 ex military leaders have been unable to restructure the country, and you think she can. Dream on
She can bring investment that will empower us financially to restructure ourselves how we want. You can not deny that money will follow her if we clean up our act a little bit.
Anyone else think buda is dreaming of them perhaps explain to bjdon why military can not structure Nigeria how many goes they have at it and why someone else just might be able to empower us to restructure ourselves. It is our future after all.
Iyasaburi: Fake news! Is she nursing such ambition.
No, she isn't. Not as far as I know. I first figured to ask Nairalanders what you all think before I asked her.
Iyasaburi: Nigeria politicians will frustrate her. I swear, she will resign
Not with the might of Nairalanders behind her will any of the useless politician frustrate President Ngozi-Iweala, and she is far too strong to give up a half done job.
bjdon: It does not matter who is president in 2023. It really doesn't. As long as the country retains its current inefficient political and economic structure, nothing will change.
Funny. Will a new leader follow the "current inefficient political and economic structure" or lead the change?
