This was the vetting process of the time and the reason is simply because people act differently when they know they are being observed and evaluated, but they are however a different animal when they believe no one is watching them.

If you don't know the type of person your partner is before starting a relationship, then you might just be sailing the high sea without a compass that points true North.

Personally I use Wire/cable stiffness to judge. Power cables that have energized a load are usually slightly stiff while unused cable are a lot more flexible.
