Nairaland GeneralRe: Scientists Think They Can Make Objects Invisible by Cactus(m): 4:48pm On Jun 03, 2006
So many things are possible today that we could never imagine happening years ago, In the 1950s, could you imagine talking with someone across the oceans in real time, voice&video. today blind people can see relatively decent thanks to miniscule cameras implanted into their eyeballs or worn like glasses. http://rdu.news14.com/content/top_stories/default.asp?ArID=82612 . Deaf people hearing thanks to cochlear implants. My opinion as to why many people are not aware of these type of technologies is because currently they are extremely expensive only a handful of people have them. That limits public exposure in the media and awareness, except you watch tech tv, beyond tomorrow, or search online for information regarding issues like this.

The research and development of making objects including humans look invisible to the eye is as real as eating eba. Definitely certain people will be angry at such ideas, people that know its possible are very well aware of the advances in technology today. As for those who are still skeptics, well we all cant have the same opinions/feelings else nothing will be going on in the world if everyone agreed/disagreed on issues that affect their lives.

EVERYONE READING THIS TOPIC I REALLY URGE YOU TO WATCH THIS VIDEO ITS ABOUT 6MINUTES.

watch it and pour out your opinion. I believe people will start rethinking their opinion.

very interesting response to my post at least this should get people interested in topics like this as for those of you that may consider me as wacko well its just my interest in topics/issues like this i monitor stories regarding nanotechnology closely, Augmented Reality(AR), and Artificial Intelligence(AI). Those are my areas of interests.
scientifically i lack formal education in these areas, I wish i had gone into college for Artificial intelligence. Such is life with college past now I may end up in one of those fields in Master/doctoral degree.

your light dissipation idea is similar to the stealth bomber. It all depends on the material used to build the object and angles of inclination.

You can read more on this link instead of me copying and pasting, using the B-2 bomber as an example

Nairaland GeneralRe: Scientists Think They Can Make Objects Invisible by Cactus(m): 4:26pm On Jun 02, 2006
well, regardless if we like it or not it will get into public market. there will definitely be restrictions on the use restrictly government/millitary related since it will be extremely expensive to obtained initially. (this is going to be a deviation from your topic) however, thanks to nanotechnology you can easily achieve anything these days, ipod nano, xbox360, dockers khakis etc. I do wish all these nanotech, applications would be very limited but its not going to be.

Eventually, people will be useless, cyborgs are already in existence, I wouldnt be surprised if someday, anyone can take a disk (cd,dvd, memory stick etc) and put it directly into their brain (if i were educationally knowledgeable in the scientific field, I will definitely do some research in that aspect cos it fascinates me). That is definitely attainable since signals in the brain are electrical. then schooling will be useless each and everyone will be a walking google. That will definitely be awesome.

If you have not read this book, BRAVE NEW WORLD by Aldous Huxley,
its a good read. this is the link to the entire book. http://www.sparknotes.com/lit/bravenew/

an overview and summary explanation http://www.huxley.net/

That book was written in 1932. You can imagine how close we are getting

Okay people are trying to restrict embryonic stem cell research bla bla bla well guess what, welcome in nasal stem cell. now there cannot be restrictions on using nasal stem cell since it regenerates and no life destruction/termination involved.

hopefully, we are smart enough to maintain our sanity.

thats cool good job. my reasoning for advicing u to include it is cos there are bots that scan meta tags and check for some vital information, else the site can be pulled down
WebmastersRe: UsaStudyInfo.com Redesigned By Zahymaka by Cactus(m): 6:17pm On May 23, 2006
Yea he did it for free but removed the gnu/gpl license at the bottom of the page for joomla. thats infringement.

its adviceable at least u include something like powered by joomla and hyperlink joomla to the joomla.org site

ComputersRe: Microsoft Prepares Enhanced, Windows Media Player 11 by Cactus(m): 2:20am On May 16, 2006
I have being using the new MS Office 12 for sometime now it works great very easy to get accustomed to, but there could be more improvement that can be made, though i am using the MS Office Enterprise Professional 12 beta version it works great, speed of controls needs to be worked on. I hope there will be an option of not using the scroll change to swap menus because that takes away a couple of milliseconds. else microsoft is working towards a good direction but a long way to go.

as for windows media, well it sucks, too bulky, and useless to me, winamp rocks, simple, clean, and light configuration.

WebmastersRe: How To Install Content Management System by Cactus(m): 8:39pm On May 05, 2006
well my advice to you is that do not waste your time with asp/asp.net and cms based on asp/asp.net, you will find yourself having many difficulties and its kind of cumbersome finding and fixing problems in asp/asp.net.

my favorite cms is phpwebsite reason its very simple, lightweight, easily customisable, and all necessary modules are available.

I have used mambo, phpnuke, joomla, easycms, and so many i can't recollect, each of them function very well, the choice of which cms to implement is dependent on your needs, database requirement, and possibly your network connection as some loads relatively different from others.

using asp cms you are very limited to hosting service

http://www.aspapp.com/content.asp?ContentID=326 that gives u instruction on installation.

i cannot imagine why your instructor would want you to build a cms, though the thought and idea is cool but common there are thousands you can play around with instead of building one. its definitely going to take an extended period of time to complete which you would not have the time for in either a semester or in an academic year.
WebmastersRe: How To Install Content Management System by Cactus(m): 3:30pm On May 05, 2006
unzip the file you downloaded then upload to your server into the preferred directory. there should be an install.sometin eg for php = install.php

run that file

or you may be required to create a database before installation

well it will be more helpful if you can tell us the CMS u are planning to install then one can give u detailed steps on doing that though the installation process is almost similar in most CMSes there could be some difference,

give the name of the cms and we can provide you with more information

http://aumha.org/win5/a/xpvm.php

try increasing the size of your page file to like 500MB,

its somewhere in my computers' properties - i believed in the advanced tab, you may have to be signed on as the administrator.
WebmastersRe: What Type Of Ftp Client Do You Use To Upload Websites And Why Do You Use It ? by Cactus(m): 6:42pm On May 03, 2006
you really dont need ftp client to upload/download files to your website, you can connect directly from windows explorer using either of the following methods

ftp://username:password@yourdomain.com

or

ftp://yourdomain.com a box should popup and ask for you password
Music/RadioRe: IPod Nano (Music Player): Is It Good? by Cactus(m): 2:07am On May 03, 2006
Oh well in general, Ipod sucks, my reasons, short battery life, hard drive failure, ipod shuffle/nano- capacity is small.

Its kind of sickening to walk into bestbuy or circuitcity and see separate sections for Ipod and mp3.

If you are looking to get an mp3 player, take into consideration flash based device. I know there are ipods that are flash based the battery life is too short. I have being tru 3 generations of ipods all gave me problems then i switched to sony. I use a sony E507, size wise = a pack of hollywood chewing gums. built-in FM tuner, 45+ hrs of battery life, 1GB capacity. With the FM tuner you really don't need that much space. The downside, proprietary software, music format, it converts your mp3 into atrac when transferring. else is fabuloso.

good luck on your mp3 hunt, personally regardless of either nano, shuffle, normal ipods, you can get better value for your money when buying mp3 player. ask others about what they use and problems associated with the devices.
ComputersRe: Help by Cactus(m): 6:07pm On May 02, 2006
if u r lookin to keeping your computer running properly, your best bet is get blackIce or set up Smoothwall.

blackice is very powerful but you just have to be careful when u use it cos you have to know how to set up your applications from blocking and ports etc

smoothwall is a hardware firewall based on linux, very easy to setup. with either of those two, you will be fine,

blackIce - http://www.digitalriver.com/dr/sat3/ec_Main.Entry17C?SID=26412&SP=10023&CID=0&PID=253470&PN=1&V1=253470&CUR=840&DSP=&PGRP=0&ABCODE=&CACHE_ID=0
smoothwall - http://www.smoothwall.org/

regarding the start - run command , never saw the post but the command u may be looking for is REGEDIT not sure.

if you are not sure what you are looking for DO NOT MESS AROUND WITH YOUR REGISTRY

GamingRe: Sony Playstation Portable (PSP): a must-have by Cactus(m): 5:54pm On May 02, 2006
regarding memory, you can get a 1GB memory stick, the system is awesome. you can use it for way more things than just play games, go online, play video, music, pictures, stream music, and also you have many homebrews that u can run on psp depending on the version u r running. though there is now support for homebrews on 2.6, i have tried some of the home brews on 2.6 works great as for me i am still waiting for the possibility of running ROMs on 2.6. if you are planning on getting one, its a really cool device,

i use it as a remote controller for some home my electronic device, (computer, tv). the functionality is very extensive if you really want to make use of as many features as you like

ProgrammingRe: Cd Database Application by Cactus(m): 4:33pm On May 02, 2006
why are you taking the long way i know someone has already replied your msg regarding VB.NET but i am not sure you understand clearly. if you build the application in vb.net you don't have to install the end product u just click on the exe file and it runs there is nothing you have to install its very simple. ideally all you need r two files, the exe and the database. if you have images and all that goodies they go into sub directories.

okay if you don't want to do it in vb, create an application in MS Access. Filemaker, or MFC

i believe there is already a db element for cd or video library in MS Access

VB.NET can be used to create amazing mobile application including database driven applications. I am familiar with creating applications for smartphones and PDAs. if u r familiar with Visual Studio, there is a module in there to build applications in vb for smart phones just like you would for a desktop application.
Music/RadioRe: Yanni And Enya: Whose Music Is Better? by Cactus(m): 10:52pm On May 01, 2006
well many people are not familiar with either yanni or enya. as for enya, thanks to lord of the rings thats what made enya become familiar in popular culture. however i have being a fan of enya for quite sometime now, i have all her albums and some posters. I have heard of yanni but i have not listened to many of his songs. Just a few from his Yanni: live from somewhere album (i think i am not sure the title of the album) it sounded pretty cool.

Enya's latest album AMARANTINE is really fantastic, my favorite song on it is surimegusa ( if i got the spelling correct)

if anyone likes enya, listen to celtic woman, Ashley MacIsaac or Loreena Mckennitt,

if i do get my server up and running again (i fried it) i will post link the link
ComputersRe: What Causes A Computer To Freeze by Cactus(m): 10:18pm On May 01, 2006
on a more serious note, virus, trojans, spyware and all those kinda goodies.

using slow process and trying to run huge applications.

incompactible software+hardwire or OSes

hardware malfunction, ranging from hard drives to USB devices

pretty much there are tons and tons of possibilities if you are experiencing freezing just describe the situation or what you were doing, give your system information, OS, processor etc and that will be more useful instead of needing a list
