Suspected hoodlums on Saturday shot sporadically as they attacked the vehicle of Desmond Elliot, a Lagos House of Assembly candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The incident happened at about 3:00 p.m. at Akerele junction in the Surulere part of the Lagos where Mr Elliot currently represents in the assembly.

The attack is said to have been perpetrated by street boys who wanted the famous actor to stop and give them money. But the lawmaker decided to keep going. His vehicle was attacked and the windshield broken.

Supporters of Mr Elliot at a nearby polling unit, PU20, Ward 7, Surulere, quickly called in reinforcement to rescue the lawmaker.

Immediately he was rescued, thugs shot sporadically into the air, creating an even more tense atmosphere.

In a quick response, however, police officers attached to the nearby polling unit called in armed reinforcement who arrived to calm the situation.

Ad-hoc staffers of the electoral commission, INEC, were advised by security personnel to conclude their vote counting early before the situation escalates.

Pretty similar experience for me in Surulere, Lagos.

I ended up "visiting" three different polling units also.

I must add that there was a significantly large pile of unused ballot slips at day's end due mainly to voter apathy. The postponement didn't do apathetic voters any favours.

Our roads are still death traps.

The government still disobeys court orders.

Police and military barracks are still an eyesore.

The army is still being decimated by a technically defeated Boko Haram.

University teachers are still poorly treated and their labs are still poorly equipped.

Power supply is now at the lowest ever.

The exchange rate is still twice what it was in early 2015.

Businesses are still closing down by the day due to unreasonably high overhead. And, by extension, people are losing their jobs on a per-second rate.

Our borders are still porous and border officials are still demanding bribes from travellers.

The government in power are still getting caught redhanded buying votes for reelection.

Anyone who dares oppose the government, regardless of what the courts may say, is still being denigrated, intimated, harrassed and manhandled by government security forces.

And the masses are too impoverished, ill-informed and hungry to care.

We don't know the Lekki axis, having been mainlanders when we lived in Lagos.

Please help by giving us information on estates that have good drainage and a central supThe ply of electricity and treated water. Hopefully, travel times won't be more than an hour to the office.
