OBJ became the president in 1999 without what has come to be called STRUCTURE. PDP had very strong footing with big names. OBJ depended on the big names, chief among them was Atiku Abubakar. When in 2002 Atiku made an attempt to remove OBJ in the 2003 elections, reality dawned on OBJ that he needed to be his own man.

OBJ after his victory moved to control the structure, party and consolidate his political power. OBJ wanted PDP to retain political power in Anambra state, just like he crushed AD in the SW and set about it using the state HOA, the Ubahs and thuggery.

Obi's impeachment followed series of political games which revealed corruption and thuggery at the heart of the system.

Ngige then of the PDP, lost on the grounds of occupying the post of governor illegally for three years. Ngige had issues with the then godfathers on the same account that he refused to open the state treasury, unlike Mbadinuju before him. Those who impeached him did it in the dark and claimed that they had two third majority. The impeachment was termed illegal and therefore nullified by the appeal court.
