tsdarkside:Come back and cry that there are no jobs in Nigeria and you all want to elope to foreign lands to work under slave conditions. Import cars and kill your local car industries. The simple truth is that this government never had, does not have currently and will not have any idea of how to make Nigeria a better living place for everyone. Every developed country has solid policies in place protecting their agriculture and ensuring food stability first. Your government has policies in place ensuring poverty daily and starvation. What is the purpose of dropping import duty on cars when the people are hungry? Borders are shut yet the policy of growing the local rice industries has failed completely. In fact there was no sufficiency in the first place before borders were shut last year. The effect is what we all experience today with the price of rice @35,000 a bag. The idea of lowering car tariffs is expected to achieve what in the lives of the people who are already impoverished? Why will this government not tackle food first? And by the way is Innoson the only car manufacturer in Nigeria? There are other truck and car assembly plants in Nigeria and they will all be affected. If government intends to promote local industries as they claim, why lower duty on imported cars whereas duty on car/truck CKDs will likely remain the same? What about the effect on labour? How caj locally manufactured cars be delivered at lower rates? Let's cut off tribal/political sentiments talk about this issue more seriously. |
Why do these people prefer deceiving themselves and other Nigerians? Who will enforce the order and how will the trailer owners ever comply? It started like a joke several years in Lagos and government neglected it. It snowballed and turned Apapa and its axis into what it has become today, yet all government orders have been rebuffed by the owners and drivers. Chief among the reasons why the drivers never comply is that a very huge percentage of the trucks are owned by the same government officials and their friends. The drivers jostle to get jobs to enable them pay the owners. The officials come openly to ask them to leave yet, they allow them stay to return their profits. In Apapa/Tin can island axis the security officials who should enforce the order take in millions of naira daily extorting the drivers. Why has Fashola (Mr. Rocket science) not asked Dangote to build terminals in Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Edo and other states where his trucks and drivers have become nuisances? Does Fashola not know that the big men's trucks constitute the bulk of the problems? Can he not approach them and ask them to build terminals? How are we sure that Fashola himself does not have trucks on the roads? The drivers have become accustomed to the freedom they have and always refuse to relocate. When will they complete the rail network? I'm sure truck owners will not be happy about it and they'll sabotage every effort to have rail working. |

doctokwus:The unifying factor of APC is President Buhari. He is the rallying point. That's the reason they all quote his name in everything they do. They all hide under him and are quick to say "they want to bring down the regime of President Buhari". Chief Bola Tinubu does not command such followers who and is expecting to leverage on it. No other person commands such followership. PDP on the other does not have such individual as their rallying point. The disadvantage to APC is clear in that when PMB leave, APC scatters and all those who donated parts and accessories to make it national will simply demand their contributions and they will all revert to their regional corners. PDP will get better and definitely return to power. |

Before Umahi activates his political suicide and hinges his hopes on the self delusional Prince Arthur Eze, hear this: Ebonyi State with the least votes from the southeast every election cycle got Senate President under PDP. Ebonyi State got Secretary to the Government of the Federation. Apart from the Owerri Onitsha Expressway Obasanjo did with Julius Berger and RCC, Ebonyi got the second major project in PDP years. The Uturu-Afikpo Highway done by Julius Berger and the Ishiagu Road with less traffic density done by Strabag. In case someone just returned from Panya, Southeast became: Senate President under PDP Deputy Senate President under PDP Deputy Speaker House of Reps under PDP Vice Presidential Candidate under PDP National Chairman PDP under PDP. Chief of Army Staff under PDP Finance Minister, Aviation, Education, Commerce & Industry, Information, Foreign Affairs etc Under PDP FRSC Corp Marshal under PDP Immigration Comptroller under PDP National Population Commission under PDP INEC National Chairman under PDP DG Security and Exchange Commission under PDP Central Bank Governor under PDP The list keeps going on and on and on. But truly speaking has the south east been truly faithful and committed to PDP? I asked this question looking at the inroads APGA made in Anambra, APC made in Imo and now this Ebonyi states. The south east was truly PDPs until after 2007. Who do we blame? |
DexterousOne:Thank you for your response. If you take a look at transport operations in most developed countries you"ll find that their governments largely operate it. So was the case in Nigeria, especially Lagos up till the 1970s when the military governments allowed the private sector enter into it. Transportation was well organised and largely served the people of Lagos, except for the fact that corruption in LMTS (LSTC) cost Lagos a lot. With the advent of the Kia Kia buses then, chaos entered the system. As society develops there is an expectation that government stays ahead to meet the needs of the people. Government fails to fix faulty buses and if they do so it only happens when the buses are nearly written off. Government has failed to provide adequate buses because one oga or the other inflates the cost. Transport is largely the business of government. Lagos has been on that construction of rail lines since 2008 and yet there is no hope in sight. With rail lines life is easier for the people. Same as water transportation. PPP would actually work if proper agreements and structures are put in place. Ambode could have done a better job than Sanwo Only. Corrupt government officials are the only reason I see why government may not be part of the daily operations. Again is the fact that government must strive to protect public property. This endsars witnessed the destruction of 84 buses. |

His property business is managed by his daughter who is not a first class graduate. It will be worthwhile if he changes the equation by employing a first class degree holder. |
Neddstark:Truthfully we do not need Okadas, koropes and keke napep in this country. All we need effecient and effective modes of transportation and proper timing in all cases. This NURTW is a major problem in Lagos. It will not cost government anything to stop them. Ambode had this plan of phasing out danfos last year but the powers bigger than him stopped him. If we want Lagos to be that mega city we must have more than enough modern buses, good rail system and proper water transportation. This will not take rocket science (copying Fashola). The bus terminals are meant for comfort of the so called poor in society, yet they destroy them, thinking the funds used to build them belong to individuals. Those who destroy public property should be made to face the law. Lastly we need more calm in Lagos for things to work effectively. |

Neddstark:See we like the very fast life in Nigeria irrespective of the resultant costs in human lives and resources. Government truthfully has failed in the transportation sector, especially with the advantage given to the private sector with the entry of danfos into Lagos since the 1970s. Transportation should be largely run by government. But for how long can we keep living like this? These Okadas people have been complete nuisances in those areas over the years. Do not forget that armed robbery, kidnapping and needless harm have been done to many Lagosians living within those areas. It is very painful getting to those areas and government has to deal with that menace. The Okadas there have become lords on their own and supported by certain residents of those areas, have made life very difficult. What do they want on Oshodi-Apapa expressway? Go all over Lagos now and see what Okadas have been doing in the last two weeks after the endsars protest. It is only proper for government to address the situation. I bet you that when all things are resolved, the police will get back more terrible than they were before endsars. |

Mulera* Notwithstanding the damage that Donald John Trump has done to the United States in just four years, he deserves our gratitude for exposing some truths that had been buried underneath the veneer of a progressive nation that President Ronald Reagan had hoped would become “A SHINING CITY ON A HILL” Two things stand out for me: #First - Trump has lifted the pretence by boldly espousing an entrenched, systemic racist view that he shares with most of the 71 million Americans who voted for him. He has brought America’s tribal politics into the open and shown that “the greatest nation on Earth” is far from embracing the greatest secular principle immortalised by Thomas Jefferson in America’s Declaration of Independence. “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness”~ Jefferson, a wealthy slave owner from Virginia wrote in 1776. Nearly 250 years later, millions of Americans, like Jefferson, still give lip-service to the concept of human equality. Their current president barely pretends to believe in the idea. #Second - The hypocrisy of large numbers of America’s so-called Evangelical Christians, has been laid bare by Trump. They are no different from the so-called Christians who, for centuries, traded and owned slaves or the members of the Nederduitse Gereformeerde Kerk (the Dutch Reformed Church) in South Africa who supported Apartheid. Christians that manifest intolerance for others, including refugees and other struggling members of society, violate some of the written teachings of Jesus Christ. Christians who embrace as their secular leader a pathological liar, hater and divider of God’s children violate God’s Word that was passed on to us by the Apostle Paul in 2 Corinthians 6:14: “Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?” Mercifully, the majority of America’s voters have put a stop to the nightmare and bought their country – and most of the world – some relief from this very exhausting experience. We can breathe again! True to form, Trump is ending his presidency with predictable drama that assures him a place among his country’s worst presidents. Even as the numbers showed that Joseph Robinette Biden Jr. had trounced him in the election earlier in the week, Trump tweeted on Saturday: “I won the election, big time.” This was written in capital letters, the cyber-equivalent of shouting. He has now embarked on a mission of revenge, disruption and disorganization. He has fired his Secretary for Defence via Tweeter. More heads will probably fall before he leaves office. At 74, the American president reminds me of childhood encounters with kids who, upon losing card or board games, would claim victory even as they destroyed the play materials and everything in their path. Had he been the ruler of any one of the world’s many pseudo-democracies, Trump would have almost certainly called in the troops, arrested opponents and declared a state of emergency “in the interests of national security.” Luckily for America’s 331 million people, theirs remains a country whose long history of institutional governance and a national culture of rule by the consent of the people disables Trump from feeding his natural instincts. Notwithstanding the bizarre spectacle of 71 million people voting for re-election of this most unfit, desperately insecure, pathologically dishonest, irredeemably racist and destructive man in the 2020 election, America was crafted by its founders to resist and defeat attempts at illegal capture of power. While he will frustrate the transition process, it is a given that not even Trump can illegally stay in the White House beyond 11:59 a.m. on Wednesday January 20, 2021. If he tried to do so, the American internal security system, among them his current Secret Service protectors, would gently help him out of there. Trump’s claims of electoral fraud may be due to one of three possible explanations. First, this may be a normal manifestation of grief. The classic sequence of emotional response to loss is denial, followed by anger, bargaining, depression and, in most cases, acceptance. These feelings do not always follow the script and we may well see Trump on a behavioural rollercoaster ride over the next few weeks. However, Trump, being Trump, is very unlikely to reach the stage of acceptance. To do so requires a healthy dose of humility and emotional security, two attributes of which Trump is severely deficient. We should, therefore, expect him to spend the rest of his years claiming that his victory in 2020 was stolen by a “deep state.” Second, Trump is a chronic truth-denier. He fashions a false reality that feeds his fantasies, then foists the same on his multitude of followers. The latter echo the fiction back to him and he uses that as overwhelming evidence of his version of the truth. The most likely reason for his claims of electoral fraud is an attempt to delegitimize the election and presidency of Joe Biden. Trump has not recovered from the psychological trauma of discovery and revelation that his election in 2016 was facilitated by Russian interference. He knows that many of America’s opinion leaders and, perhaps, foreign leaders harbour the view that his was a Pyrrhic victory. Throwing mud at Biden’s election is a balm to Trump’s troubled soul. If he can convince himself that his successor is as illegitimate as him, Trump can leave the White House feeling he was a victim of the bad forces that he had railed against during his first presidential campaign. Trump, the bully, is an emotionally weak man. Trump the bragger-in-chief is a terribly insecure man. One does not need a degree in human psychology to tell that the American president is possessed of a very delicate mental security. His obsession with crowd sizes of adoring supporters, his name plastered on buildings and various trinkets, bragging about his wealth, claims of intellectual superiority and knowledge and his self-nomination for a Nobel Prize point to a deep-seated inferiority and inadequacy. His evidently high self-regard is a shield against the painful truth of his serious shortcomings and incompetence. It is his weak self-esteem that made Trump so obsessed with President Barack Obama that the centrepiece of his presidency was to undo his predecessor’s achievements. That same vulnerability has amplified Trump’s emotional reaction to defeat by Obama’s vice-president, deputised by another African-American – a woman at that! One imagines the sense of humiliation that Trump must be feeling. Indeed, one feels sorry for him. Trump will leave the White House in January 2021, but we should expect to hear from him for a long time. Sometimes these people make themselves look very stupid. How on earth would he say such things publicly? Was he sermonising the people on humility or accountability? Look at it this way. He is a major distributor of BMW cars in Nigeria. He has other massive business interests. He expects people to buy and drive his expensive models of cars otherwise he"ll be out of business and revert to poverty. He expects people both young and old to purchase his expensive products for him to remain in business. Now he refused to purchase good phones made by other organizations in the name of minimising his expenses or wisdom? If his likes do not purchase expensive phones, how do his likes expect other companies to stay afloat? Who does he expect to buy expensive phones? If the rich fail to buy his cars and come publicly to tell ue how they use Peugeot 504 GL, how will he feel? Shamelessly he's told people that his wife bought him the good phone. His children were not allowed cars. But he did not tell us the kind of schools they attended. Surely they did not attend public schools. If this man were Bill Gates, poverty will remain the lot of Africans. Bill Gates has spent a lot of money battling illnesses in his country, Nigeria. Even Ned Nwoko who is not as wealthy as Bill Gates is tackling malaria in Nigeria, yet we have not heard of his such acts from him. His senator representing his zone, Ifeanyi Ubah is presently repairing federal roads in their zone and he will ply the roads when he goes to his village for Christmas. Stinginess worry the man well well. Abeg make he carry that story go far. |

Foolish question from a foolish, bitter and envious woman. Her wickedness knows no bounds. Even a little girl who God has blessed from that little age. Why has she not requested that of other popular child actors and actresses? Was it a crime to use what God has blessed her with to lift up her mum and family, who probably did not have any roof over their heads.
