is what I did not the first stage of drug research? grin

can you go ahead and do clinical trials without first testing on animals? coming from a doctor that did questionaire as final year project while I spent almost 300k as at 2011 grin

and yes I knew the active constituents!!! I went ahead to do HPLC (chromatography) which I paid heavily for. I didn't vitamin and mineral analysis to know the composition of the fruit juice!!!

so because it's the first stage it's not drug research? is that not how those that spent billions on research started? you crawl before you run!!!

you are the ignorant fellow here grin

I worked on the anti-ulcer effect of the fruit juice of annona muricata (please Google the plant) using over 200 rats for 4 different models (alcohol induced, nsaid induced ulcer and pyloric ligation model) and toxicity study to determine lethal dose, etc.

while my fellow room mates and so called doctors went to APIN clinic to collect data and some doctors did questionaire project.

is my project not research work? no one did that research that I did for my project work before I did it in 2011.

is that not research work? is that not in Nigeria? grin you are ignorant!!!
herbal research? you are a magnificent clown? tell me active ingredient in your fruit juice? which methods will use to separate components of fruit juice according to their properties? how would you isolate each component? which methods and why? what is preclinical trial? what are clinical trials? what are different phases of clinical trials? at what healthy objects and patients involve? why is that physicians always involve in last phases of clinical trials before drugs are endorsed for human use.

Prescription: A physician's order for the preparation and administration of a drug or device for a patient. A prescription has several parts. They include the superscription or heading with the symbol "R" or "Rx", which stands for the word recipe (meaning, in Latin, to take); the inscription, which contains the names and quantities of the ingredients; the subscription or directions for compounding the drug; and the signature which is often preceded by the sign "s" standing for signa (Latin for mark), giving the directions to be marked on the container.

so because you interacted with a few out of the hundreds of thousands of graduates of such courses in a country where opportunities are highly limited for those courses to flourish you concluded they don't know the prospects?

most of the ground-breaking inventions in medicine are not even by medical doctors. they've been mostly by pharmacists, biochemist and microbiologists. these are the people that spend billions of dollars in drug research while the doctors just sit back waiting for the results of such research to make their life easier.
how many research institutes do we have in the country for graduates of basic medical sciences to work? there are no research opportunities in Nigeria because there is no funding. how many rich men set up medical research foundations or donate large sum for research? tell universities to stop admitting students recklessly in those departments. why should a university admit 250 students into anatomy department? for what purpose? how would they learn? where are the bodies for dissections? stop blaming doctors for your unemployment. learn from nursing admission process, it is tightly regulated.

You see what i have been sayinghuh Nigerian medical doctors have totally lost it! So, by this, a great majority of them will now proceed to get an MSc and PhD in the basic medical sciences so they could start teaching anatomy, physiology and biochemistry to medical students while leaving behind other lofty medical specialties. For your information, minimum requirement for lecturing is a PhD so don't even think that NUC will allow you replace PhD with MBBS because no where in the world is an MBBS equal to a PhD. So, you guys should get ready to spend years of academic research to earn a PhD.

And for the guy alluding that medical doctors know pharmacology more than pharmacists, let me inform you that every action of a drug resides in its chemical structure and studying the chemical structures of drugs is within the domains of pharmaceutical chemistry which pharmacists study for 4-5 years. Modifying the structures of these drugs through various means ( including factors within and outside the human system) changes the actions of the drugs. So, tell me how a med doctor who has no knowledge of drug chemistry would know the effects of the drug better than a pharmacist.
That you are allowed to prescribe drugs is an anomaly which has resulted to so many deaths. That is why the pharmacist must be there in the hospitals not only to ethically dispense the drugs but to also screen your prescriptions to pinpoint prescription errors.

My friends, you can never know it all! Do your parts and let others do theirs.
on PhD matter, mdcn/npmcn/wacp/nma are on it with nuc. soon, medical students will be taught by doctors only that is best way of producing sound doctors. know that. nothing can change that. doctors will continue to prescribe drugs while pharmacists will continue to dispense and point to prescription errors. But tell pharmacists to stop prescribing and dispensing drugs in their stores. It is illegal to do the same.

good

the graduates of those courses should be entitled to get a PhD and teach their own courses.

doctors in Nigeria should stop acting like cry babies and making excuses for their failure. clinical application of those courses are well covered for in the later part of the MBBS programme (yr4-6).

if doctors want this implemented then doctors should create special departments or units for these courses to take MBBS students alone and let biochemists, pharmacologists, anatomists take the bsc programs of their courses.

case settled
PhD in anatomy etc will be relevant. for example, in anatomy department, courses will be assigned to lecturers based on professional background while those with medical degree teach medical students others teach students in basic medical sciences like physiology, biochemistry, mls, nursing, radiography etc based on their areas of expertise. Even with that those with PhDs in molecular biology, genetics, nanotechnology will be teaching all students including medical students because those areas very technical.

They are broad disciplines with application in vet medicine, animal health, fishery, botany , pharmaceutical, research in medicine etc and other allies health courses. it is not just about being a professor or being PhD holder. It is about having clinical knowledge. we are talking about teaching what will be relevant to clinical practice. It has been found that out most clinical students have poor knowledge of basic med sciences that are relevant to clinical practice during rotations. medical students need to be taught what is relevant so as to produce better physicians. It is people like you that complain of 'bad' doctors but absolve themselves of any blame. anatomy, physiology, biochemistry ,pharmacology and pathology are foundations of medical practice. lecturers in those areas must have clinical experience to teach what is relevant. for example, medical students do not need to be loaded with information in comparative or evolutionary anatomy, students of vet medicine may benefit from that.
but I still believe that PhD holders without medical degree will still be teaching courses like genetics, molecular biology and technical aspects of embryology. my advice is that if you desire to teach medical students,do your PhD in those areas I mention.

Senate suspends meeting on INEC’s N189b budget indefinitely, gives reasons
nigerianeye.com Aug 18, 2018 1:43 PM

The Joint Committee of the National Assembly on the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has suspended deliberations on the N189 billion submitted to it by the Commission for the conduct of the 2019 elections, indefinitely.

The Committee Chairman, Suleiman Nazif, announced the decision at the end of the panel’s meeting on Friday.

While providing reasons for the suspension, he, however, assured that members of the committee would do the needful to ensure that the citizens emerged victorious at the end of the day.

He said, “Honourable minister, honourable chairman (of INEC) and presidential liaison, I want to thank you very much for your time.

“We have the prerogative as a committee to look into all the details having got all the clarifications we require. We will now sit as a committee at the end of the day on which one to use. We are not playing politics here.

‘‘This is not where we play politics. On this note, this meeting is adjourned sine die (indefinitely).

“The issue in contention is, we have a letter from Mr. President requesting supplementary budget and what we have is a budget of N143, 512, 529.00, that is what we have in the President’s letter.

“But at the same time, there is another N45bn. When you put the N143bn and the N45.6bn, it gives us the N189bn, there is no confusion in it.

“INEC did the right thing, the President sent his letter. It is the sources of funding that became a problem that is why we invited the Minister of Budget and National Planning so that he can clarify.”

It just did not add up to the characteristic and characterization of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu: what the embattled senate president, Dr Abubakar Olubukola Saraki, said of the Asiwaju in his response to the open letter said to have been written by the Asiwaju, pinning his reasons for the defection of Senator Saraki from the All Progressive Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is faulty. It is evidential that Senator Saraki has not fully learnt, neither has he imbibed enough of the history of the Asiwaju’s democratic struggles for Nigerians.
His (Saraki’s) continued stay upon a false, uninformed and ill perceived ground in the notion that Asiwaju Tinubu is after him for his (Saraki’s) contribution to the Asiwaju forgoing his Vice Presidential ambition is quite beggarly of popular sympathy, which only the helpless of societies donate freely, being vulnerable in quick militant reasoning. Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu was never forced to nominated Professor Yemi Osinbajo as Vice Presidential candidate for President Buhari in 2014 to warrant Saraki’s thinking.
The Asiwaju conceded to the sacrifice demanded of him by his party men, lest the so much “change” envisaged by his party may not collapse on the alter of his self glorification – that much should be made clear. It was not the first time Asiwaju Bola Tinubu would be asked to relinquish his ambition and nominate his replacement – he is a veteran of political sacrifice. In the face of this historical fact, it is clear that Senator Saraki is, by the target of his response, forgetting history badly. This is bad and unfortunate for , and in any category of leadership recruitment.
It is therefore wrong for Senator Bukola Saraki to cast the Asiwaju in his own mold. Senator Saraki assumes, repeatedly, that the Asiwaju is after him because he joined others to stop his (Asiwaju’s) Vice Presidential ambition. What Senator Saraki forgot to remember was that the Asiwaju, in Nigeria’s political framework, is the most tasked, denied, and sacrificial politician in Nigeria today.
Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu willingly relinquished his mandate as the running mate personally nominated, and stuck to by President Muhammadu Buhari, on the night of his nomination as the presidential flag bearer of the APC in 2014. It was already an agreement reached between Tinubu and Buhari, and only Buhari had the powers to nominate his running mate and he did and left it there – this is the picture of the Asiwaju’s sacrifice. He did not run away from dialogue to “steal” any mandate.
First, let it be proven to Senator Saraki that his opposition to the Asiwaju’s vice presidential ambition was not because he was fighting for democracy. The man was fighting to sustain and nourish his personal interest in becoming the senate president. The way and manner Senator Saraki ascended the senate presidency makes it absolutely clear that the seat was on his mind when he was opposing Asiwaju Tinubu’s vice presidential bid. It is dodgy for him (Saraki) to attempt the use his opposition to the Asiwaju’s ambition in 2014 as a ladder to ascend his justifying the pursuit of his presidential ambition, acting sneakily as if he is fighting for democracy – democrats are known when seen.
There was nothing wrong with the Muslim/Muslim, Buhari/Tinubu joint presidential ticket originally intended by the APC – it was not unlawful, it was constitutional and meets acceptable universal standard for personal and findamental rights. For Nigerians, it was “lets change the PDP” after 16 years, and not even a Muslim/Muslim presidential ticket would have stopped the APC’s victory. The Legacy Parties (ACN, CPC, ANPP, and part APGA) had accepted the ticket already. It was only the nPDP members that opposed the Asiwaju’s emergence as vice presidential candidate to President Buhari when they made it into the APC and on the night of the national convention – a crafty bunch indeed.
Saraki/Dogara machinations towards taking over the leadership of the 8th Assembly was an enlarged nPDP project. At the time the nPDP joined the APC, there was no time to hold any meaningful talks. So naturally, as a bargaining chip to get things heading on, the Asiwaju willingly gave up his ambition to accommodate the views of the “new” PDP members he graciously accommodated. Truth can only be denied, it cannot be shielded.
Senator Saraki’s heart knew that Nigerian politicians will not tolerate a Muslim president, a Muslim vice president, and a Muslim senate president together in one government if he thinks that Nigerians would not tolerate a Muslim/Muslim presidential ticket – this was Senator Saraki’s faulty assumption that led him to his treachery against the “spirit” of the APC. Today, he has been made, by the same “spirit”, to sing a strange and an outdated song monotonously.
It is certain that if “tenure elongation” for the former NWC members of the APC had succeeded, people like Senator Saraki would have engineered defections into the APC to outsmart President Buhari at the presidential race – he should remember the act of “cutting Tinubu to size” and now he is running away from a “cut” Tinubu and spiritualizing in a frenzy. No one can hide under his shadow. It is important to point it out to the senate president that he is sounding like a broken record – eardrums are aching instead of itching.
Let Senator Saraki showcase himself competitively against Senator Tinubu’s Democratic credentials. Tinubu gave up his senate presidential ambition in 1991 under the SDP and nominated Dr Iyorchia Ayu as a replacement, and he did same for Vice President Yemi Osinbajo: let Bukola Saraki tell Nigerians what he has forgone in his life as a democrat. Bola Tinubu holds onto Lagos, while Bukola Saraki holds onto Kwara: the difference is clearly in the fact that no robbery has been traced to “Alausa”.
Lagos enjoys a continuous leadership advancement and economic development, standing as a role model of succeeding progressive governance with expansive human and material developments amongst the States of the federation – who
BETWEEN SARAKI’S GREED AND TINUBU’S SACRIFICES.docx
would deny this? The difference is in long term governance planning, geared towards modernizing the society.

Where was Senator Saraki during the Sani Abacha years of political terror? Tinubu was facilitating NADECO and Radio Kudirat. The pressure he exerted from his self exile drove Abacha to his grave. Where was Senator Saraki when the Asiwaju was deepening our democracy by founding and refounding political parties until he gained a ruling party upon which he is senate president?
The answer is in the fact that though Bukola Saraki has a Yoruba man’s outlook, he loves the nomadic nature of the Fulanis. Here lies the conflict between “Abubakar” and “Olubukola”. When a man has a clippy identity and is sneaky about his ambitious, which, to a large extent, is inordinate, then error must be made on the side of caution.
It is a danger to listen to people who forget history. Democratic struggles go beyond mere talking. Talk is cheap and affordable. Defection is easy, go…found a political party, nurture it under so many grievous battle of survival, and come out with a ruling party where a greedy politician can sneak in to take the senate presidency, then seek and embrace him happily at the end – Mr Democrat. It is not amala, gbegiri and assorted meat. It is interesting to watch anyone eat that deliciously.
This is the picture of who political party defectors are: gluttonous diners on ready made tables. Senator Bukola Saraki can never be a democrat. Period!

It was gathered that the deceased Ifunanya was fast asleep when officers attached to B Division broke into their apartment and surrounded everyone in the house with guns while in search for internet fraudsters otherwise known as 'Yahoo Boys'.

They searched the house, found nothing and ordered Ifunanya and four others to enter their Hilux van before taking them to the station.

It was alleged that the officers tortured Ifunanya to get information but he couldn't make it like others as he passed away during the brutal process.

Ifunanya fainted and was rushed to General hospital where he was confirmed dead by the doctor.

The police hurriedly arraigned the other people arrested with Ifunanya and charged them for armed robbery.

According to reports, the other arrested victims are currently in Okere Prison.

Lecturers who are not doctors ‘should no longer’ teach medical students

Bodies of medical and dental practitioners in Nigeria say lecturers who are not medical doctors will no longer be allowed to teach medical students.

At a meeting convened by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) and Medical and Dental Consultants’ Association of Nigeria (MDCAN) in Abuja, the stakeholders said only medical doctors with degrees in basic medical sciences should lecture students.

The medical practitioners also lamented the pass rate of foreign trained medical students, who sit for medical examination in the country.

They said the high failure rate in post-graduate medical education is a reflection of poor training and assessment methods which needs improvement.

“Medical doctors with degrees in basic medical sciences should lecture basic medical sciences in medical schools. Lecturers in basic medical sciences who are not medical doctors should be phased out over time,” the report read.

“There are 42 universities where undergraduate medical education is taking place in Nigeria. Thirty two of the medical schools are fully accredited while 10 are partially accredited as at 2018. There are nine dental schools and three specialised universities of medical sciences.

“About 3,700 medical students gain admission yearly. The pass rate of foreign trained medical students who sat for the MDCN exam has been reducing over time with the lowest being 15% in February 2018.

“Undergraduate medical education in Nigeria is challenged by outdated curriculum, lecturers who are not medical doctors especially at the basic medical sciences level, insufficient or lack of teaching aids, sub-standard library, decay of infrastructure and laboratories, lecturers who are not themselves educators, and inadequately equipped clinics.

“MDCN should ensure that graduating medical students have places to do horsemanship. It was suggested that private hospitals, general hospitals and some district hospitals can be affiliated with teaching hospitals and federal medical centres for the purpose of increasing the spaces available for house job.”
