I have taken my time to read the responses of almost everyone on these thread, i want to say specifically dat we all hv a point in one way or the other, personally i was tempted to draw a conclusion last week but something held me back to actually dig further and see her so called side of the story alas silverbird tv helped out last nite, silverbirdtv was able to prove to its viewes on its 7p.m news bulletin that the video makin the rounds from the lagos speaker end was doctored, according to ufuoma's lawyer they had a chap who recorded d incident for as much 49mins(still searching the web for d video) both video were played side by side by silverbird and that way i drew my conclusion, she was actually beaten infact the while the second tape was rolling i saw instances where the security details attached to d speaker chased other ppl who had their cameras rolling,d second recordin was way different from wat we hv been seein around.ufuoma's lawyer told silverbirdtv dat de have about 12 witnesses who are ready to testify in court against d speaker, who had different recordin btw point A and point B. one thing i kn for sure is dat ufuoma's outrage will not work in a society where law and order functions but in 9ja her attitude will work (thou am not in support of her outrage) but without dis outrage definately her story could hv been swept under.can we take our minds back to d issue of d naval officer who beat up a gurl on d island and even strip her naked(https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-191814.96.html)?dat stori came to light jus because someone did a good recording and got it on CNN i-report,will any of us feel better if our loved once gets beaten in dis manner and even striped naked lik d naval rating case?let us cast our mind back again to anoda naval rating who also beat up a guy in portharcourt (http://www.punchng.com/Articl.aspx?theartic=Art201010281531931) let us endeavour to find out the other side of such stories in the future b4 drawing conclusion and in whatever we do let us try as much as possible to avoid such drama with any the nigeria security agencies. this is my take. |

When Mr. Lawson Tekena, a graduate of microbiology, decided to make a U-turn in front of a building on Tombia Road, GRA, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, it did not occur to him that that singular act would land him in trouble. He said what was uppermost in his mind was to avoid the traffic jam on the road so that he could get to his destination on time. But the spot Tekena chose to make his U-turn was in front of the house of retired Admiral Festus Porbeni, a minister of transport under Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar's regime. Tekena told PUNCH METRO that some security men and naval ratings approached him and asked him why he wanted to park his car in front of their boss's house. He said all his explanations to the naval ratings that his mission was just to make a U-turn in front of the house and not to park his car were rebuffed. Tekena said before he could explain further, the naval ratings and the security men pounced on him. He added that one of them carried a big stone and hit one of his car's side mirrors. Sensing danger, he said he attempted to manouvre his car so that he could leave the spot. But he said he was prevented by the naval ratings, who proceeded to give him the beating of his life. He said as he was being beaten, one of the naval ratings dashed into their boss' compound and brought out a gun. Tekena said, "He (the naval rating) tried to drag me into the building, but I tried my best to resist him. Even when the crowd that gathered at the scene told them to leave me, they did not listen. The Naval men dragged me inside and began to punch me all over my body. "The one who punched me while I was in the vehicle corked his gun and put it on my head apparently ready to shoot me. "In the process, one of the bullets fell down and he went to hit me on the head with the butt of the gun. At that point, all my body was covered with blood, which was gushing from my head, precisely at the point where the rating hit me. "In that state, the naval rating still asked me to lie on the ground. That was after he had removed the magazine of his gun and fixed it back. But I refused to lie down." He said after he was released, some officials of the Rivers State Government House took him to a hospital in an ambulance. Tekena, who was wearing a cap to cover the deep cut on his head when he spoke to our correspondent, said, "When he (naval rating) carried his gun, I thought about my three daughters and my wife, who just gave birth and said if this man killed me here, what would become of my children? It would have been tragic because my new born baby wouldn't have known his father." He said he reported the incident to the police station, where the Divisional Crime Officer sent six of his men to investigate the matter. He said when the policemen arrived at the scene, the naval ratings refused to listen to them, adding that at that point, the police decided to leave him to his fate. Tekena explained that as they were about leaving, one of the naval ratings, whom he identified as Abubakar, appealed to him that the matter should be forgotten. "This was the same man, who called me a 'bloody civilian' and asked me where I was when militants were everywhere in Port Harcourt," he said. But Abubakar, who appeared to be the most senior among the naval ratings guarding the house, told our correspondent on the phone that he was just a peace maker. "I wasn't there. But when I came and saw them fighting, I asked them to stop and that was all," he said. Tekena, however, faulted Abubakar and wondered how he could have fought five men, two of whom were armed. An eyewitness, who identified himself simply as Tony, said Tekena was treated like an animal on the fateful day, adding that if not for the crowd, the Microbiologist would have been shot by the naval ratings. "They dragged him (Tekena) into the building and by the time they decided to bring him out, his shirt was already torn while his entire body was covered in his blood," the eyewitness noted. "The crowd that gathered at the scene knocked violently on the gate and pleaded that they released Tekena. Many people parked their cars outside to watch the show of shame. But by the time the naval ratings released my friend, they had already torn his shirt and hit him with the butt of the gun. His body was filled with blood", Tekena's friend, who gave his name simply as Zukky, also said. When contacted, the Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, Dr. Rita Inoma-Abbey, said she could not comment on the issue because she had not been briefed. Efforts made to reach the Public Relations Officer of the Nigerian Navy in the state, Mr. N. Yeibo, were abortive as he did not pick his calls when our correspondent called his two lines. Also, he had not responded to text messages sent to his line as at the time the paper was going to bed. Our correspondent could not also reach Porbeni, but his Personal Assistant who spoke on the telephone declined comments. She demanded to know our correspondent's "interest"in the matter. "What is your interest in the matter? Are you Tekena's brother? I don't know what your interest is, but whatever it is; I will call Abubakar and tell him what you have told me. I don't know why you want to publish it in the newspaper; I don't know what your report will do," she said. http://odili.net/news/source/2010/oct/25/821.html |

@Carnal: Just look at your english. It can not be compared with that of Myboo. You used pidgin english to garnish your inadequacy. The difference is clear! Very clear!my dear otinkpu are u comparing my english to dat of myboo?let me remind u dat nairaland is a forum where u are free and at liberty to use any form of ligua to express ursef especially pidgin as long as u can pass ur message and dat i have don well.My advise is since u are a new member who registered jus last nite dat u read through nairaland properly and i bet u will neva be able to give me a figure of post/thread dat has enuff pidgin in dem. dis na 9ja if u read in harvard good for u but as for carnal i am firm wit my pidgin and na dis pidgin don mak me de work for d biggest oil and gas company in d world and one of d biggest oil platform in d gulf. let me advise u to neva underrate ppl u meet here on nairaland jus because de are behind dia computer screen, nairaland got ppl of 'class' no b oyinbo we go chop |
@myboo, I feel u my broad dats TOTAL E & P for u. @otinkpu, whatever u think u might know about dis whole exercises, I will refer u to MYBOO post to buttress the current situation, dis happened 3yrs ago abi dis one too na blackmail or misinformation ? don’t even think u hv done a good PR job ooo for Owofera and Co. Let me ask u,wat has over confident got to do with the engineers and highfliers failing the test? It is not enuff to tell us here dat the secretaries and others whom passed the test has either been attending several test in other oil companies or even conducting a tutorial! piss to dat ur excuses, pls tell it to the cowboys cos dis is not enuff reason too for any of the engineers not to pass the test not even one mr otinkpu.i am very confident dat tins lik dis happen in nigeria daily, i felt our efforts should be how to stamp it out rada than condole it,ur ppl might hv scaled the test today but de might b d cheated ones tomorrow and am sur u will also cry foul and posisbly write against the same process u support today. No one has resulted to blackmail here, if u don’t kn, nairaland is an open court so do the job u hv paid to do and don’t com here to deceive ppl wit ur false infos afterall u jus registered last nite to enable u do ur PR job. |
