Witnesss:But is he talk less Aisha who isn’t a LP member the ones supposed to be handling the money? Isn’t this the due process Obi likes to talk about? |
It seems the trend among kidnappers is to kill their victims after collecting the ransom. |
This comment is why ex PDP members whether they are in NNPP,PDP or LP will struggle to wrestle power from APC. Indiscipline, conflict and “no gree for anybody” is in their DNA. They don’t understand sheathing of swords for the greater good, they never see the big picture. That’s why PDP got N16m votes and tha party with 8million is in the presidency. It will likely repeat itself in 2027 because a leopard cannot change its spots. |
christejames:Nigeria is set up in such a way that no one can emerge president without the support of others. Obi can never be president because his supporters alienate the others whose votes he needs. We have not even got into the debate over whether he even has the qualities required to be president. Whether you think he is qualified or not his supporters have already rendered his presidential ambitions dead on arrival. So let him continue to be the “peopl’s president” on twitter. |
LordIsaac:Oga perhaps you didn’t read well. |
truthbetold22:I wholeheartedly endorse the emboldened above. I have said as such many times on this platform. My only caveat is that if the reforms fail because the masses refuse to be carried along, unfortunately it is also the masses that will suffer the most. The Nigerian elite all have exit plans. Again it is no excuse for lack of leadership by example or arrogance but it is the reality. |
Most commentators do not understand the gravity of our problems. What Nigerians want is for Tinubu to continue to do what Buhari did. Continue to borrow to subsidize petrol and continue to use our little forex to defend the Naira. Those are the root of the hardships Nigerians are facing. The problem with that is that as at the day Buhari left office, 97% of our income was used to service debts. |
Is that pink paint I see on the wall of his office? Nigerians are funny people, it’s only in Nigeria that you will see an office with pink wall paint or offices where they draw the blinds during the day. I have never understood the blinds thing. It I s as if it is mandatory to block natural light in Nigeria. |
ItisWell22:You are understandably being emotional. Nigerians are naturally emotional and that’s why we are where we are. A father has lost his job, you are crying you can’t afford the basics. Excuse me that’s what happens when the head of a household loses his job and he has no savings. The next step is to adjust until he gets a job….like it or not. I have told you the situation as it stands. No offense or disrespect intended but it’s up to you to deal with it or process it however you choose to. |
Nigeria cannot be saved unless it can endure the hardship and come out of the other side. The chickens have come home to roost, there is no ther medicine or solution without pain. Anyone who says otherwise is either ignorant or playing to the gallery. The pain may not save Nigeria we hope it does but I can guarantee you 100% that if Nigeria decides it does not or cannot endure the pain its end is assured. The situation of Nigeria is like a man with cancer. You can attempt to treat it and endure the pain of cancer treatment, you may cure your cancer or the treatment may fail despite the pain but 1) the quicker you embrace the treatment the better your odds of success and 2) if you say you don’t want to endure the pain of cancer treatment, your death is assured and it will come with pain. |
Ikaeniyan0:This is what happens when the blind are led by a naked 70yr old man. Petrol is often colorless or course depending on the grade or type of crude used in distillation process. Colours in petrol are often added dyes added to distinguish the different grades. Only an ignoramus such as a foolish 70yr old man will say octane is added. It is like saying happiness is added. The colour in different petrol is a result of added dyes Dangote simply did not add dyes. |
Where were they when ECB president said the Return of Trump would be a disaster? I didn’t hear any caution from them! This is why democracy is under threat everywhere. The nations that are doing well do not follow western democracy and their hypocrisy. |

osuofia2:Nobody invests where there is insecurity and lack of infrastructure. Very simple! |
Akalia:May 29, 2003: 97% of Nigerias income was used to service debt leaving only 3% for everything else. Okonjo Iweala had warned as far back as 2013 that we have been borrowing to pay salaries. It continued under Buhari. It is as if we don’t know how close we were to Venezuela. You are complains that petrol is N900? If subsidy was not removed and the Naira floated, there would be no petrol to buy. We would probably be relying on diesel from illegal refineries as nobody would sell us petrol. We would have defaulted on our loans, our sovereign credit rating would have been downgraded to junk which means by extension corporate foreign loans would also suffer. Naira to Dallas rate would have skyrocketed. It is would have been uncontrolled mayhem. At least by removing subsidies on forex and petrol ourselves, we are able to control the pain. We were that close to disaster. Talking of horse and cart is the luxury of a nation with time. We were at the precipice of implosion, we didn’t have time. We were at a point along the road where your car cannot go into reverse and there is only 1 exit. That’s the only path we could take. Tinubu said he would remove subsidy if you like protest. Obi said he would remove subsidy on day 1 Atiku said he would remove subsidy. 21m Nigerians voted for candidates who promised to remove subsidy. |
Shimbo96:I don’t care who they blame. My problem is the people who don’t seem to know that there simply is no money for subsidies. They were the same people criticizing NNPC for owing suppliers $6b. Don’t they realize that the debt is incurred because we are selling petrol below its production costs. |
ibechris:You are not Saudi Arabia or Libya you are a poor country that happens to have Oil. Saudi produces 9m barrels a day, its population is 34m Libya produces 1.1m barrels a day, its population is 7m Nigeria currently produces 1.4m barrels a day its population is 220m and counting! Yet you want the same subsidies? It is easier to provide subsidies to 7m or 34 m people than it is to provide subsidies to 220m! Your population is 7x Saudi but your income is only 1/10th and you are talking of subsidies? Start by having less children, maybe the little we have can go round. We know western education does not encourage you to think and it’ is only designed to create employees but try aand help yourselves sometimes (since the jobs don’t exist anyway) by thinking every now and again. Your mates are Cameroun, Benin and Niger and Ghana. It is only population that makes us look like a big country simple because 200m poor people will steal eat. So if you want to compare subsidies or price of petrol compare yourself with these countries. |
We don’t really care if you vote for Tinubu. Nobody coming after him will reintroduce fuel subsidies or unfloat the Naira because they know it is for the good of the country. These are 2 of the 3 things that have stunted our growth for decades. The 3rd is resource control and fiscal autonomy. I hope he is able to acheive that. Like it or not Tinubu has done Nigeria a great favour but people with low IQ and understanding will not understand. The job of a good leader is not to make you like him but to do what is right for the country and to make sure his reforms are permanent. This Tinubu has already done. If he leaves office tommorow morning, when his Tory is written in 10-20yrs time historians will point to the removal of subsidy and floating of the exchange rate as the point Nigerias fortunes changed for the better. |
God1000:The same osinbajo that was VP under Buhari? the same Obi that has nothing to show for 8 yrs in charge of Anambra? We need to start doing IQ tests before we give people voters cards |
Elxandre:if you have 4m you can find a business to turn around that money multiple times in Nigeria instead of spending 4m just to be a cleaner with a degree abroad. |
NothingDoMe:it is bad enough that ignorant eeediots who do not bother to read r check the facts are allowed to vote, one cannot imagine a president who comes to power on the backs of such ignoramuses. People like you is why condoms are made an educated ignoramus is a burden on society. He speaks the language of the educated but is more ignorant than the uneducated. |
NothingDoMe:Case closed another brain dead Obididient eeediot exposed! We gave him expo, but his fear of reading gave him headache. Now we all know why they believe anything they hear. Eeediot! |
NothingDoMe:iam not here to debate tribe or frivolous stuff. I am here to prove you are an eeediot. below is the 2024 budget since i know you will have a problem knowing where to go, go through it and tell us what lavish expenditures you can cut to total N6T subsidy costs. https://budgetoffice.gov.ng/index.php/resources/internal-resources/budget-documents/2024-budget I vent because i cant stand eeediots. I dont have to agree with you but at the very least back your assertions. it is a basic requirement for anyone who claims he is educated. if you know as we all know you have notihing to back up your noise just run away because each time you disturb my peace i will insult you more. I cant stand eeediots! ....eeediot you are! |
NothingDoMe:you havent answered because you are too dumb to answer. Subsidy is N6Trillion, how much is the lavishness of the government. I am not a brain dead fellow obidient that you can convince with propaganda and lies, give us the figures, where will you get the N6Trillion for subsidy? eeediot. people like you is what happens when siblings have children!! |
NothingDoMe:How much is cost of government how much is the subsidy? Keep validating everybody’s opinion of Obidients as brain dead. You were the one who mentioned me in a post. I don’t take kindly to eeediots disturbing my peace. |
No well raised woman will parade herself half naked so a bunch of old men can gaze and judge. Most beauty queens end up single/side chicks or second or 3rd wives if they are lucky. A woman enters a beauty competition has to tick one of these boxes, a good man knows none of these make for a good wife. 1) a daughter of a single mother (not widowed) 2) a daughter from a home with both parents but improperly raised 3) a rebellious woman. 4) a woman in need of constant validation 5) a hustler |
structure of criminality....and they will have mouth to abuse others! |
NothingDoMe:Don’t be a dimwit, everybody knows he re-introduced subsidy through the back door. If you had any brains, your reply would have signaled to you why subsidy whether explicit or through the back door is unsustainable. Why have there been queues and scarcity for the last month or so? Because there was no money to pay for it. NNPC incurred $6.9b debt and could not sustain it. Again I ask you how do you and your numbskull co-travelers expect for subsidy to be paid? Again you can’t answer!!! Again this is why we say you must have the IQ of a log of wood to be an Obidient!! What kind of human being cannot articulate his position on a matter logically, whether one agrees with it or not is a different matter but at least articulate the reasons, metrics etc behind your positions. This is why normal right thinking people have no respect for you and treat you the contempt, disdain you deserve. |
You know a man is not going far in life when you have N4m and you are asking where can I japa to? |
aswani:Thanks. Everyday I want to quit but I remain for 2 reasons 1) it is still the best source for Nigeria related news in one place 2) I can’t get into email account I used in creating my Nairaland account so I’m unable to delete my account. |
NothingDoMe:Oga stay on point. This discussion is about the merit/demerits of removing subsidy prices. People tend to divert from the subject and introduce other matters when they are intellectually defeated. However, for the record I have said it many times that the only problem I have with the Tinubu administration is that you cannot ask people to tighten their belts while you live conspicuously at governments expense. The difference between Obidients and others is that ALL Obidients have no brain cells, while you will at least more likely to find PDP or APC supporters who are capable of independent rational thinking, even criticizing their own when they do wrong. An Obidient will justify anything and resort to abuse in the process because usually that is all he has. In the process looking like dimwits. Obidients will flood all platforms complaining about price of petrol forgetting that their leader promised to remove subsidy on day 1. In addition, I have asked them (just like I am asking you) where will the money for subsidy come from? I have yet to get a response from probably over 40 I have asked on Nairaland! casualobserver: casualobserver: casualobserver:Now, since I have answered you, I hope you can answer me unlike your cotravellers by telling us where the money to pay for the shortfall in landing or ex-depot price of petrol price is to be sourced. It is ok saying petrol was this in 2015, petrol is this now, tell us where is the money to come from? |
Melagros:Less than 15% of our power comes from hydro. The reason power has increased in because gencos are now getting their money courtesy of band A That is why power companies like geregu oando are rising on the stock exchange. |
