Papadoh:Nobody offered to pay or will pay his release clause. The release clause was inserted at a time when he was banging in goals, clubs had money and he hadn’t dented his image by insulting Finidi. An agreement was reached between Napoli and the club for £67m…far below his release clause. Did you not read? Then they asked for more. A release clause is just that a price at which there is no need to negotiate with the club it does not mean you cannot buy a player below the r release clause. Even if you trigger the release clause a player can say no. |
Ashawoman82:Because Saudi window didn’t close till Monday, Osinmhen didn’t have to agree and had the option to wait on Chelsea which was his preferred destination. But the greed of napoli caused AlAhli to move for Toney instead leaving Osinmhen with the option of either taking a pay cut to sign for Chelsea or remain at Napoli. The UK deadline is only for incomings. They could have waited till Monday for Toney. They signed Toney because they did not want to deal with Napoli anymore. I am not a fan of Osinmhen but given the circumstances, I would have done the same. |
Ashawoman82:Yep the clubs had agreed a fee and waiting for Osinmhen to accept. Suddenly Napoli increased the fee, causing the Saudi club to make an offer to Brentford for Toney. Not that Osinmhen had accepted but that was where the deal for Saudi collapsed. By that time Saudi were no longer interested as they can only buy 1 foreign player. https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11668/13205851/chelsea-transfer-news-ivan-toney-and-victor-osimhen-close-on-agreements-with-saudi-side-al-ahli
|
ufotunang:I don’t get your point or the relevance of this to what I posted. In the post you responded to I said Osinmhen did not refuse to play or force his way out of Napoli. Maybe you thought you were responding to someone else. |
DeepSight:You are clearly an eeediot with the same IQ as alog of wood. |
erniok:Excuse me where is the trying to force. Transfer line coming from? Osinmhen extended his contract on the agreement that he would stay 1 more year. It was always known that agreed that Osinmhen would leave. The problem is European clubs for a number of reasons did not come in for him as expected and the club in Europe that did (Chelsea) wanted to pay a derisory lower wage than he currently earns which he is in his right to reject just as Napoli are in their right to refuse to accept a low transfer fee. |
sulaak:He isn’t refusing to play, they are the ones refusing to play him. |
Osinmhen is still young, he should just see out his contract. Last last dem go beg am or terminate his contract. Napoli cannot afford to lose him for free. He should never have renewed but now that he is in this position, he should play hard ball. They are the ones who messed up the Saudi transfer by jerking up the price after they had agreed a price with the Saudi club causing them to switch to toney. If it were me I will make sure Napoli do not get a fee for me. |
DeepSight:I have told you several times to stop mentioning my name because you crave my attention. The problem with your generation is that you have never experienced excellence, you grew up in an era of mediocrity so unsurprisingly the mediocre are your yardsticks. I grew up in an era where only the best were teachers civil servants or university lecturers and professors. You grew up in an era where only the dregs of society and rejects occupied public space. For that I don’t blame you, if you’ve never eaten butter before you will call margarine butter. It is not about writing books, it is displaying standards of professionalism in your work. If according to him he says he didn’t know. How come a whole editor of a newspaper did not know for almost 2 months that a fellow media outlet (premium times) had already broken the story? When was the last time This day or any of its affiliates broke a story? Why is it always others like premium times that break stories? Why is it always others that do investigative journalism? Because they are quacks! They are close to power because their oga is close to power, there is a difference between being able to write and being a journalist. Writing a book is not journalism. You are clearly too poorly educated to know the difference. Again you are the editor of a newspaper and you say you don’t know about a story of this magnitude that was broken almost 2 months prior by a rival newspaper? You need to understand the difference between news outfits that exist for journalism and those that exist for brown envelopes and image laundering. Writing a book is not journalism. You are only as good as the standards that have been set for you. I swear they have really messed up your generation. You lack basic critical thinking skills. Same way you have google you can’t use it, same way you think because someone holds a position he is worthy of that position. Many people hold positions in this country because the intelligent, competent and the professional won’t do it or work for certain people or conditions. Furthermore none of these people you put on a pedestal are trained journalists. Segun Osoba is a trained journalist that’s why the difference between the 2 Segun’s can be seen by the discerning. Similarly that’s why the crew of Arise TV. None of them are trained journalists but these days anybody appears before the Tv and reads the news and suddenly they are a journalist. Again because the intelligent and professional have vacated journalism throwing up quacks! Stop mentioning me. You are free to insult me and call me “that fool” or edit but stop seeking my attention by mentioning my name. If want to respond to you I respond to you directly I don’t try to be sneaky by mentioning your name in a post knowing full well it will appear on your mentions. You have nothing intelligent to say because you are not intelligent. You are not intelligent because when you grew up, intelligence had fled your environment. I don’t blame you for that, that’s the curse of the post Babangida era children but seeking my attention is deliberate and like I told you from day one I don’t take kindly to being disturbed by eeediots. |
DeepSight:Oga, I told you many times before to let it go. Take the correction and improve yourself. I told you not to disturb me unless you have something intelligent to say. 1: mainstream Nigerian journalists today are not an example. Standards in the industry have dropped. Segun Osoba was a reporter for the daily times in the 1960s, it was he who broke the story of the body of Balewa lying by the side of the road. How did that happen? Because he got a tip and rode his Vespa all the way to the Lagos Abeokuta road. He went there to confirm himself before breaking the story. When was the last time you heard any of these so called mainstream Nigerian journalists do any investigative journalism? They are reporters, they don’t do any investigation. They are just as useless as the public. Even arise Tv are so shameless they do a section called what’s trending I.e taking stories from Twitter… I repeat Twitter! Not unexpected when you take air head, bikini clad ex beauty queens and parade them as news casters/ journalists. Set your standards high. It doesn’t cost you anything to google a subject you know nothing about before you comment. If I knew an I got my info from Nairaland and did 2 minutes of investigation on google, then and editor of thisday should be ashamed he didn’t know….then again it is the same media outfit so bo surprise. And stop using quackery as your yardstick. Because someone behave ls foolishly does not make foolish behaviour acceptable, which is what you are trying to justify. I warned you not to disturb me with stupidity. You didn’t know, you didn’t know fine go away. Instead you start telling me 3rd rate journalists did not know so it is ok Your brain did not cause you to ask what kind of journalists did not know something that was already on Nairaland for over a month? The problem with Nigeria is that our best brains are either out of the country or don’t get involved in public space so people like you use quacks as your yardstick for almost all aspects of life. Stop quoting the mediocre to justify your mediocrity. A rival media outfit published the story on June 30th so he has no excuse especially as an editor. It was republished on Nairaland which is where I first saw it and did my own checks.

FxMasterz:Are they more Christian than the Pope? Nonsense! |
helinues:The minute I saw “single mother”….. |
Basicend:I doubt he will go to Saudi. Certainly not to the club that came in for him as they have signed Toney after Napoli raised the price at the last minute. They can’t sign 2 foreign players in this window. Personally I don’t think Osinmhen helped his cause with his fight with the national team manager. I think that made him look high risk for team harmony. The utterances of his manager didn’t help either. |
Oshen’s grave error was extending his contract last year. He could have named the club of his choice with a heavy sign on fee as a free transfer. But because of short term mindset he will be sitting on a bench for the next few months at least. |
It is as if some monarchs don’t realize their forefathers lost their kingdoms to the British and they only continued to exist as monarchs then and today only as employees of first the colonial government and now the state governor? |
Solsix:do you guys actually read? let me break it down since many of you seem to have problems understanding. No borrowing = no development borrowing to loot or useless projects = bad borrowing to provide lasting infrastructure that will attract quality investors and residents and increase IGR = Good Kainji dam was built in 1964 at a cost of $209m. the money was borrowed and has long been paid for it has been providing clean fuel free electricity for 60 years. to build that today will cost at least $2b. if we said we didnt have money then there would be no Kainji dam today and the miltiplier effect it has had on the economy of the country and the host community and state. Akosombo dam was built around the same time, it cost $150m at the time. Ghanians criticised Nkrumah for collecting the loan to build the dam. When it was completed it provided 70% of Ghanas electricity, today that dam provides 20% of Ghana's electricity. The loan has long been paid off it does not utilise any gas or coal it is free (at least cheap) clean electricity. That is what good debt does, that is what having vision does. Poverty of thought is our problem in Nigeria, it is abundant amongst the masses so it is no surprise that it afflicts our leaders too afterall it is from the people that leaders emerge. if Nigerians are waiting for their toro kobo IGR to develop, they will die waiting. the IGR for Anambra and Benue in 2023 was N33B and 19B respectively. that is $20m and $12m respectively. I hope you know you cannot build a quality 100Km road with $20m? You can build "roads" but they will soon wash away and you are back to square 1 which is what we have been doing...relying on IGr and building the type of infrastructure that our IGR can permit except they are poor quality and dont last so we are forever developing. as you are commissioning one, the one you commissioned a few years ago is spoiling. |
tctrills:like i said utilise your data for discussions about BBN this thing is above your pay grade. |
Amucha:I have no problem with that if that is his plan to build trust first. All I have said is that real development will not come without debt. The infrastucture required to attract the businesses and the high value taxpayers to a state outside of the usual suspects of Lagos, Abuja and Rivers can only be financed with debt. Even Lagos Abuja and Rivers need debt to develop. A state with farmers and poor people and poor infrastructure can never raise enough IGR for true development. You need to attract middle/ higher income residents to truly increase IGR and they will only come if the companies that employ them come, those companies will only relocate if the infrastructure exists. |
tctrills:You clearly do not know what caused the 2008 financial crisis so I was correct in my assessment of you as a financial illiterate. The 2008 financial crisis was caused by bad populist government policies initiated in the Clinton administration but blew up during Bush regime that interfered in the market to guarantee the loans of people who ordinarily could not afford loans. Traditionally a mortgage is 3x or 4x income. When government started asking banks to give loans to people who couldn’t afford them aka subprime (even up to 10x income) banks started lending to those who they knew couldn’t pay because they knew the govt could guarantee the loans and they will make their money upfront from the origination fees. Eventually we had a situation where people without jobs were getting mortgages of $500,000 and multiple mortgages. It worked for a while because house prices were rising because of the demand so everyone and his dog was flipping and making money. Banks knowing the people they lent money to could not repay the loans sold off the loans on their books to get the risk off their balance sheets and to originate new loans because that was where they were making the money and fraudulently repackaged the loans as good loans and sold them off to unsuspecting investors. To cut a long story short, the party ended because those packaged loans that the banks sold started to default as expected and it affected other sectors of the financial system. It’s like I say lend money to any of my relatives and I will pay you if they default but you cannot have more than 10 debtors at a time. So naturally you look for as many relatives of mine as you can find and give them loans because for every loan you originate you get a fee. Once you have sold to ten relatives you package the 10 loans and sell them to investors (let’s say pensioners looking to reliable monthly income) as good loans so now because those 10 loans are off your books, you can sell to another 10 of my relatives and on and on. The investors not knowing that the people whose loans they bought have no income or cannot afford the loans because you labeled them as grade A instead of sub prime. Then my relatives start to default one by one and the investors who had bought the loans I sold cannot meet their obligations and the whole system collapses. The 2008 financial crisis was not caused by government debt. It was an entirely private sector led crisis albeit caused by government interfering in the normal workings of the private sector. You are a financial illiterate. 2008 financial crisis had nothing to do with government debt. If it were govt debt where did govt then find money to bail out banks and businesses? If it were govt that over borrowed did your brain not tell you it would have been government that needed bailing out not banks and financial institutions? Ignoramus! Stop commenting on things above your intellect and pay grade simply because you have data! It is not BBNaija we are discussing! |
Solsix:That with due respect is a reflection of low level mindset If you build it they will come. People are in Lagos Abuja and Ph today because all these other states do not have infrastructure. When I was young all these other towns were liveable cities and towns because they were viable , they were viable because they attracted investment they attracted investment because they had infrastructure. Providing infrastructure to attract investment for a state like Benue or Anambra is equivalent to the boldness of a state like Lagos to build a metro train service. It’s about the boldness or lack thereof of your leaders. Lagos could easily have said they don’t have the money for trains after all they borrowed and it didn’t happen overnight. Finding N10m for a man with N1m is the same as finding N1B for a man with N100m. Your are limited by your mind and your boldness. There are millions ready to quit Lagos and investors ready to relocate their factories to a state bold enough to provide the infrastructure for a more peaceful existence with basic infrastructure…. Good roads, good schools, electricity. It is not rocket science but we elect too many small time leaders without the capacity to engineer or conceive what is required. any state outside outside the usual suspects talking about not borrowing and living within its IGR is not seeing development anytime soon. As for Dave Umahi, I am not familiar with Ebonyi except for that eyesore of an airport. I am Not saying all borrowing is good but not borrowing and “living with your means” and borrowing to steal or useless projects end up with the same result…..lack of development. I am not advocating either. You must first have the right sort of visionary leadership with the capacity to formulate a sustainable development plan. That sustainable development plan can and will only be financed via carefully targeted debt. Anyone talking about I am not borrowing or borrowing for white elephant projects is clearly not a visionary leader and development is not coming to that state anytime soon. With due respect very few states have the IGR or the capacity to raise the IGR to turn their states around. Most of the increased IGR many are publishing are simply paper increases due to devaluation of the Naira and in real terms the purchase value of their IGR is actually less that it was when Naira was 600 to dollar. It is the investment in infrastructure (not ego projects like funny airports and flyovers). That will attract the investments and higher value residents that will raise the IGR. |
Again I repeat what I said in the Soludo thread, when your governor says he hasn’t taken loans just understand development is not coming your way anytime soon. Debt is not the problem, it is looting and what the debt is used for that has been our problem. We cannot develop without debt because we can’t raise IGR without infrastucture. No governor is going to attract the investors that will employ the higher income earners that generate higher IGR to states without infrastructure. |
tctrills:You clearly do not understand money or finance. You are probably one of those who swear by real estate because the Naira value of your property has gone up without actually asking yourself what is the real value of the increase in Naira? |
ArcSEMPECJ:Saving in an inflationary environment destroys the value of your money. Whatever money anyone has saved in Nigeria since about 1980 has lost value in the bank. That is why when you have money you spend money for capaital projects in an inflationary environment when you have it. The man who built his house in 2012 and the house built in 2024 did not cost the same but they will attract the same 2024 rental prices. The man who borrowed to build in 2012 borrowed at 2012 rates, built at 2012 prices has probably paid off his loan by now and is benefitting from 2024 rent. Meanwhile the man who saved or waited till his money was complete to build his house in 2024 paid multiples of the the amount of what a house cost in 2012 only to get the same rent of the man who borrowed to build in 2012. The man who borrowed to build in 2012 is a homeowner from 2012, his tenant is paying off his loan, tha man who waited till his money was complete had to wait 12 years to be able to call himself a homeowner. Simply apply this example to public infrastructure….same principle at play. The longer you take to build infrastructure the longer it take for you to benefit from the increased IGR from the infrastructure. But if you borrow for a ensible infrastructure the immediate increase in IGR will pay for it and the public will benefit earlier. A good example a new corrola cost 5m 10 yrs ago today it is N50m. Your income has not increased at that rate in the period. If you didn’t buy the car then when you had the 5m you savings will not be able to buy the car today. Meanwhile if you bought that car for N5m 10 yrs ago, you would have gotten value out of the car and still be able to sell it today for N5m. But if you saved the money over that 10 yrs at 10% compound interest, if you are lucky you will have N20m today but You still won’t be able to afford a new corrola because a new corrola is now N50m. So you can see that by saving in an inflationary m you are actually destroying the value of your money. In An environment where inflation is higher than the interest on your savings you spend today or you lose value. In fact in an inflationary environment it can be very prudent to borrow for finance projects because your future income (IGR) as well as the future cost of the project are guaranteed to be higher and you are financing your projects at todays prices. Only the financially illiterate talk about saving money in an inflationary environment. Common sense and basic mathematics should have caused a lightbulb moment when inflation is 30% and the interest on your savings in 10%means you are losing 20% by “saving” money. Perhaps many need to go back to their secondary school economics for a reminder of what money is. Money is merely a store of value. Absolute money is meaningless, it is what the money can buy that matters. In an inflationary environment your money is losing value everyday. Your return on your money must be at least equal to the inflationary rate for you to just maintain the value of your money. That is why only the financially illiterate view saving money in an inflationary environment as a badge of honour. It is also why I laugh at those in real estate talking about how much they made. Nigeria inflation is 30%, so if you have not made 30% per annum you have lost value despite increase in the Naira value of your property. Because you cannot buy the same dollars with the money after sale of property you could have bought with the money you used in buying the property. |
Stephench:Nobody is talking about external loans and you are not entirely correct. |
adexbols:It is all about how you structure your loan. Wike have an example of how he financed road construction in Abuja. He simply looked at his IGR and how much of it is uncommitted then he went to the banks and said this is how much I can give you per month, how much bulk money can you give me now if I commit this amount to you for say 3 years. That’s how you raise money for immediate urgent infrastructure needs. At the same time you look to raise your IGR so you can leverage that for more funding. You don’t wait till you get N1 before you spend N1. |
I don’t know why Nigerians see it as a badge of honour not to borrow. It is not debt that is a problem it is what the debt was used for. We are an underdeveloped country, that anyone is proud he did not borrow says to me they are not ambitious in their development goals. You borrow as much as you can to provide infrastructure and raise your IGR to pay the debt. Furthermore if you do not borrow for development, tou create opportunity for the one coming after you will borrow to loot. The more you have borrowed the less window you leave for the one coming after you to loot. We. Know what happened to the one who claimed he saved money for his state. |
Esude007:This is my problem with agriculture in Nigeria. We keep using toxic pesticides on our food chain that have been banned in other countries. Atrazine, Paraguay and glysophhates are banned in many countries but they are in widespread use in Nigeria no wonder cancer in on the increase and our exports are banned from entering some countries. |

Bishops10:my brother ordinarily one doesnt need sense to know these things, its just that most LP supporters have no sense. On the one hand he said Otti is his brother, they speak regularly and that he is doing well, on the other hand he says the next governor will come from APC. You dont need sense to know the deal has been done. |
when Kalu said the next governor of Abia will be from APC this is what he meant. he didnt say otti will not be the next governor. This is how Otti is preparing the groundwork for defection. |
Badluckynigga:They are all the same. The problem is Nigerians are educated but ignorant. We are educated but dont read labels. It is there in black and white if we bothered to read. I posted these labels July 2023, I was told my mouth is smelling.
|
I remember trying to educate people on Nairaland about this a few years ago and all I got was abuse. Your so called evaporated milk and powdered milk is nothing but vegetable oil. casualobserver:Cv: babaawooo47 I hope you can read. You were arguing with me last year. |
