IfnobeGod20:Simple minded and poor people remain poor largely for 1 simple reason. They cannot endure short term pain for long term gain. They want comfort both now and in the future except life doesn’t work that way. Comfort now leads to future discomfort and discomfort now leads to future comfort because it is in discomfort that you grow. Nobody ever made progress by being comfortable. Going to school is uncomfortable, going to the gym is uncomfortable, building a business is uncomfortable but somehow some simpletons think building a nation especially one at the point of ruin is supposed to be comfortable? Tinubu is laying the foundations for a better future for Nigeria, simple minds unsurprisingly cannot see it. He may not benefit from it, in fact it may cost him his second term but I can assure you whoever success him will not reverse the reforms because they know it is the right thing to do. They all want to do it but none of them ever had the balls to from Obasanjo to Jonathan to Obi to Atiku, they either tried to remove subsidy or had in in their manifesto. Awolowo is praised today but he was heavily mocked at the time for his free education. The students that enrolled in those “cow shed” Awo schools in the 1950s did not become graduates till the 1970s. When they talk about Awos education programs today they don’t tell you market women and farmers were taxed to pay for it, neither do they tell you the schools were like cow sheds. Similarly they omit to tell you that the poverty in the land today is due to decades of diversion of monies for infrastructure into subsidies. You pick your choice, comfort today discomfort tomorow or discomfort today comfort tomorrow! I can also assure you that whether 2027 or 2031, whoever succeeds Tinubu will not be called Obi or Atiku. I have never said Tinubu is the best, what I have said and I maintain is that if the options are Atiku or Obj then Tinubu is in a class of his own. People who cannot even manage their own election, people without the strategic mind to claim an easy victory that was theirs for the taking and therefore snatched defeat from the jaws of victory clearly do not have the intellectual or strategic thinking capability to save Nigeria. So wail all you like. We are all paying for the sins of decades of shortsightedness, misplaced priorities and mismanagement. I have said it many times I do not want a single kobo of subsidy either openly by the government or through the back door via NNPC. If Cameroun can pay N2000 for petrol they we have no business subsidizing petrol. Sell your 5L jeep and buy a corrola. I am glad it has been removed because I know it’s not coming back whoever comes into power which means we will no longer have situations where we pay more for subsidy that our entire budgets for education roads, health, agriculture combined! |
Kilodesign71:Unfortunately we had run the country for decades to the point where only a shock to the system can save us. We have run the country to a point where there is no money for subsidies of any sort (there was no money to even run a government …we were running the government by printing money and pledging future crude production) and the only way to give any form of relief is to remove the subsidies themselves. People may find this hard to believe but life would have been harder if subsidies were not removed. As at May 29 2023, 97% of our income was going into debt servicing. As at today it has been brought down to 65%. We could only pay down this debt and free up money for government and infrastructure by removing subsidies on petrol, forex etc. I don’t think people understand how close we were to Venezuela. |
He is simply telling the country …..forget N600/ liter. It’s not happening. |
Lalami3232:They were celebrating the other day that their governors said they are not borrowing and are spending writhing their IGR. I told them even Lagos with its IGR borrows to fund development and that if they see debt as a bad thing then they should just u derstand that development is not happening in their state anytime soon. |
Kilodesign71:It is unfortunate but this is where we are. There is nothing anyone can do about it. We are at a stage where it is financially impossible to subsidize petrol. We have run out of options. Again the issue of minimum wage is a symptom the the malaise in the economy. Like I said refinery workers have been collecting salaries for 20 years for doing nothing. That’s an example of why those who are actually working are paid little. The reason wages are low is because productivity of the average Nigerian is low. I have discussed this at length in previous discussions and do not want to delve into it again t the summary is a s follows. The gdp per capita per month of Nigeria works out to about N120k per month. It means that is the economic output or value of the AVERAGE Nigerian worker. Note I said average not lowest. If the average worker only outputs N120k per month then naturally the lowest worker’s output is much less. You can only get paid for your output. We are a very inefficient economy and painful as they are these are part of the great reset. |
Omoapena: Kingray10: sexiestharam: kasim155:Clearly you do not know that the last petrol you bought or saw at N600 is the last time you will witness petrol at N600 Dangote is not a charity, govt have said there is no provision in budget for subsidy, NNPC has said they are owing $6b because they were selling at N600, the current queues are because NNPC is so indebted to pms suppliers they cannot buy petrol and people are here talking about N600 petrol….some even hoping it will go below N600? Abeg who is your weed supplier. Because there are times me too I need to escape from reality! |
Kilodesign71:I don’t know and I do not care. Petrol does not know how much your salary is, petrol knows how much it costs to produce itself. You have money you buy, you don’t you find an alternative. Clearly even our brains have been subsidized for so long we don’t know how to think straight anymore. I asked a simple question. When you go to the market do you tell the sellers you are on minimum wage so subsidize eggs, bread, eba etc? |
Kilodesign71:Oga the market does not care about your minim wage. If you can afford you pay if you can’t you find an alternative. Do you go to any shop and say I am on minimum wage so give me discount….so why petrol? If you cannot afford something you work harder. Subsidy is the reason NNPC has not produced petrol for over 20 years and their staff are being paid. Someone just said a engineering graduate who started working at the refineries 20 yrs ago is now a senior manager or director in NNPC and has never seen the refinery work! We borrowed to pay subsidies until we had no money then we passed the burden on to NNPC until they incurred so much debt their suppliers refused to sell them any more PMS. You can only postpone the inevitable for so long when you run out of options eye will clear. Nigeria eye don clear. Our neighbors who are poorer than us have been paying market rates and heaven did not fall! Maybe now we will learn to adjust our behavior consumptions patterns etc like sensible countries. Only in Nigeria will a poor man drive a gas guzzling 5litre v8 tokunbo jeep on bad roads. In sane countries he drives a 1.4 liter car and the money used for subsidies is used for good roads or mass transport like rail. O Lu in Nigeria do we subsidize petrol for consumption while diesel fused in factories is at market prices. They removed subsidy on diesel more than 2 years ago and heaven did not fall, no scarcity of diesel! Enough nonsense! |
Paulyaweh:They should move it to N1200 once and for all and let us have peace. All this adjust price protest, scarcity black market, adjust price, protest, scarcity, black market is tiring and cant stop the inevitable. Everybody knows the price of petrol is about N1,200, that is the price in all our neighbour countries from Cameroun to Ghana. Move it to the market determined price and let’s do the adjustment once and for all. |
Salewa97:No price crash anywhere. You should be praying the inevitable price increase won’t be unbearable. You heard what the man said “if they don’t buy it we will export it” |
They should never have re-introduced subsidy through the back door. They are just delaying the resseting of the economy. Instead of 1 protest, now they are going to have 2 protests. If they had just sustained the removal of subsidy completely from tha start, People will protest, when they are tired they will go back to their lives and adjust their behavioral patterns and the re-seting of the economy will start. Tinubu just wasted 1,1/2 yrs of his administration pussyfooting on petrol subsidy. You cannot stop the inevitable. If it didn’t dey it didn’t dey. |
A whole Venezuela buying second hand outdated 900ex? How have the mighty fallen! |
Moyinoluwa35:When they remove Nigerians from Nigeria. The citizens that inhabit the country called Nigeria have proven over 69 years they are incapable of sustained development. Painful but true, difficult to accept but true. |
Ttalk:Better be content with availability. We have been fooling ourselves with affordable affordable but it’s. Never available. |

There is no upside for Osinmhen. They already agreed 67m euros for the Saudi club they will agree less with 1 yr on his contract. He has no brains and his advisers are poor. If it were me I would not extend the contract. A deal was agreed with PSG. It was Napoli that messed up, a deal was agreed with the Saudi club it was Napoli that messed up why help them now? They can’t afford to block his move to galatasary because it means they would have to pay his salary in full while he doesn’t play. So I don’t understand why he agreed to extend his contract with Napoli. He had all the aces and just like he did in 2023 he messed up again by extending his contract. The truth about his release clause is that nobody was willing to pay it and Napoli know that. They will take whatever they get in 2025. Osinmhen is a foooool |
opes:The fooool has agreed to extend his contract to 2027 o! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ITcwf6uUn8?si=x4iUbuyyajvgvBws |
I just heard Osinmhen agreed to extend his contract by one more year as part of the deal to go to galatasarsy. I commot my hand for the guy matter. If you no get sense you no get sense. Thank God he has football talent otherwise…. Nonsense! |
Ezewuzie01:Are you daft or are your parents siblings? Shettima is one of the most intelligent and articulate people from the North. I am sure you are an Obidient - a supporter of a man who cannot articulate himself without resorting to “and everything” cannot recognize intelligence. |
Nonexisting1:You are an eeediot. Explain how you want to pay for subsidy you can’t. People like you is why they say siblings should not have sex and produce offspring. I have been consistent. Check the dates some as far back as February casualobserver: casualobserver: casualobserver: casualobserver:The title of this thread is exactly why I am against any form of fuel subsidy. We will eventually get back to where we were with inflated consumption numbers and where we end up subsidizing petrol for our neighbours. You cannot have petrol subsidies in a nation that has porous borders when your neighboring countries sell petrol at a rate 2x ours. If Niger, chad, Benin and Cameroun can pay N1200 for petrol then so can we, their citizens are poorer or just as poor as us and they are not rioting because petrol is N1200. |
Nonexisting1:Your obsession with Obi is preventing you from reasoning like someone with a brain. Therefore I cannot continue a conversation with you. This is a simple matter, if you want petrol prices to remain low, explain how to achieve that given the circumstances of the country. I am not interested is emotional or political debates with people whose only motive is to vent their frustrations over losing an election. Since I know you cannot answer, good night! |
This man is the devil’s messenger….. partner with him at your peril. Unfortunately many Uncle Tom’s with colo mentality thinks he means well. Once they hear foreigner they start having orgasms. |
Emu4life:Only 1trillion of the 15T is coming from the government. It is not like it is governments money that they can decide where to deploy it. |
Emvicprints1:Even if they fix the refineries we will have the same problem. Whether it is imported petrol or locally refined petrol once you are selling at below the market price you are subsidizing. You cannot sell petrol at half the price of Cameroun, Benin, chad and Niger and not expect smuggling. Once there is smuggling all the intended gains are lost. |
Nonexisting1:Unlike you I am intelligent enough to know that to pay subsidies you must have the money. You cannot pay subsidies if you do not float the Naira because we were effectively bankrupt as at May 29th 2023. If you do not float the Naira all the gains will be eaten by subsidies. It’s not rocket science elections are over use your brains! |
Nonexisting1:Things would have been no different under Obi. It is either you completely remove subsidy or you keep subsidy and this is what will happen. I have said it many times on this forum that Tinubu should not have panicked and reintroduced back door subsidy. It is just prolonging the pain. Landing cost of petrol is more than N1,000. It should not be selling for less than that. They will protest they will riot but they will adapt but you reintroduce it you just prolong the reset. We have been living a false life for too long. We used money for infrastructure for subsidy during Jonathan, we borrowed to pay for subsidy under Buhari, now under Tinubu we don’t have the money and suppliers are not willing to give us petrol under credit for subsidy. Nigeria has no money for subsidy full stop!! |
baralatie:My bad! |
baralatie:I don’t get your point Going to Gala is better than playing with the reserves. He gets experience from mourinho, he plays CL football, his salary stays the same and after he has only 1 yr left on his contract. At which point he can run down his contract and get a transfer to a good club on good wages and a big sign on fee. That’s the play. It’s a good deal for Osinmhen given the circumstances because it also means Napoli are paying part of his wages. |
The smart move is to take the loan and run down his contract with Napoli. Napoli must not collect a single cent for Osinmhen. |
greenermodels:What old men? What stops youth from forming their own party? Was it old men that fought for independence. You formed a movement of young people and then you went to queue behind another old man when you could have used to momentum of endsars movement to form your own party. You didn’t because the organizers of endsars all sold out…..just like the old men you complain about. Where is DK switch? Where is Rinu? They all used endsars to cash out and collect asylum abroad, they sold you out. The behaviour of our leaders is a Nigerian behaviour both old and young. Is Bosun Tijani not one of you? What is he doing? Yeye dey smell!! |
greenermodels:Your leaders are your father, your brother, your uncle your friend, your class mate, your leaders are you. You are no different from your leaders. They are not aliens or foreigners, they are you and if you were in their position you won’t be any different. The problems of Nigeria are Nigerians themselves. |
popesco123:Actually it is ignorance to say she can’t be deported or stripped of her Canadian citizenship. Most countries can strip you of your citizenship if you are a naturalized citizen and you commit certain offenses. I am not saying she will be deported or will be stripped of her citizenship or that she will even be convicted but getting a passport or citizenship does not mean it cannot be revoked. The only people whose citizenship cannot be revoked are citizens by birth. There is a lot of ignorance on this citizenship matter. In the case of Canada, if it is found during the cause of her investigation that there are any lies on her application, her citizenship can be revoked. Second picture is for the Uk who revoked the citizenship of a woman who went to fight for Isis

DeepSight:Adeniji is not a trained journalist like others in his media organization they are filling the gap because very few people with intellect and good command of English study or practice journalism in Nigeria, so these news organisations take anyone who can speak English to staff their organisations. A journalist did the work and broke the story 2 months ago, a charlatan claims he only heard about it. A professional journalist would have checked his facts before publishing so as not to make a foool of himself how much more an graduate of international relations parading himself as an editor due to lack of professional journalists with pedigree in the market. That’s what happens when you are not a true professional and have not been properly trained. This though is not about him, it is about you and your low standards and intellect. It is because Nigeria has bred a generation people like you that even though for example you graduated as an engineer, employers would rather employ untrained engineers who have a passion for engineering. Same thing happening in the media industry. A proper journalist, talk less an editor would have known when a story as big as the purchase of a presidential jet was broken by a rival newspaper. Talk less for 2 months. But like I said you were brought up in an era of mediocrity and low standards so you don’t know any better. Your parents could have saved the world a lot of stress if they had used a condom. Disturbing me every minute just to show how retarded you are over a topic of 2 weeks ago? Eeediot! No brain no critical reasoning abilities and then he calls himself deepsight, someone who has no brain? The only thing deep about you is the tunnel through which you came into life because it is only people with deep tunnels that give birth to reetards. casualobserver:I check Nairaland as my source for Nigerian news as clearly thisday are 2 months behind the stories. Maybe if Adeniji had the intelligence to flick through Nairaland he would not have made a foool of himself by saying as an editor he didn’t know something his readers had known for 2 months. Maybe he was busy looking for contracts instead of investigative journalism. Again a tale of 2 Seguns or a tale of professionalism v quackery. One got a tip hopped on a Vespa (a motorcycle in case you don’t know what that is) and rode to the expressway to verify before breaking one of the biggest stories in Nigerias history certainly the story of his career, as well trained professional journalists are trained to do while the other sat in his office could not even bother to verify the facts in his article despite having the internet at his disposal and had the effontry as an editor to write that he didn’t know about the biggest story of the time had been broken by his rival newspaper 2 months ago. But to you he is a journalist because he can speak English and wrote sychophants image laundering contract books. To me he is a quack. |
