SEGLIZ:America uses Fahrenheit not Celsius 37degrees Celsius. Typical Naira temperature |
GloriousGbola:Child lock only works on rear doors. The central lock buttons are inside the car. Is the child so dumb that he/she didn’t know where the buttons are? What kind of dull children are we raising? The child cannot reach to the central console or drivers door and press the buttons? |
CoronaVirusPro:This is why we raise dull children who become dull adults. 9yrs old! For God’s sake! At 9yrs old, I know how to open a car from the inside! Child locks only work on rear doors, a car will have the central lock button somewhere inside tha car. |
That’s at best manslaughter not murder. Murder implies intent. It will be difficult to prove murder if she has a good lawyer. 1) they must prove intent to kill 2) a 9 yr old child is capable of getting out of the car Negligence is not murder that’s why the charge should be manslaughter. In fact I doubt she can be charged for manslaughter. She will likely be charged for negligent homicide. How on earth does a 9yr old not know how to get out of a car? Yes she will be arrested, that is normal but I doubt she was charged for murder, I think this is typical nigerian journalists murdering the English language. |
Anyone with an iota of common sense knows the biggest beneficiaries of Nigeria are the Ibos. Zik knew this which is why he pushed for the things he pushed for. Ibos are the only constituent of Nigeria that cannot survive within their zone. They don’t have the land, the job or market opportunities or the natural resources for their population. Nobody leaves the comfort of home if he can get what he wants at home. Northerners don’t leave the North because they have all they need. Like wise other regions except the SE. More importantly, you don’t see others relocating to the SE…a man only leaves home to a place better or with more opportunities than where he is coming from. All the jobs and businesses Ibos own outside Ibo land are jobs and business that would have been occupied by the hosts and that are not available for Ibos in the SE. |
CodeTemplarr:I don’t think you have what it takes to understand. Lagos calabar is an investment. It will lead to rapid development which will lead to increased govt revenue for all those along its path and hence the country. I am not here to argue or discuss with cowboys and people who are more emotional,, unenligtened and who want to turn every intellectual subject into an opportunity to vent their lack of knowledge of matters of the day. If Lagos did not borrow to build Eko Atlantic or Lagos deep sea port,, they won’t be receiving all the property taxes and revenues that will accrue from those projects. Lagos calabar and sokoto badagry are opening up new corridors, other existing roads are being fixed. Please take your emotional arguments elsewhere or I will block you if I see you on my mentions. Someone asked a genuine question and I am trying to give him an academic answer. I am here to share knowledge not to lower myself to pedantic emotional unsound arguments with the unschooled on every matter. You are probably one of those who would have been against Jakande when he took a loan to build the lekki Epe express way in the 1980s. In those days lagos ended for all intents and purpose at v/I I never even heard of Oniru, Maroko was a slum, look at that corridor today and the money the govt makes from it today! |
Vinnie2000:The biggest mistake neophyte political analysts make is to think you win an election by winning states. You don’t need to win states, especially in a 3 horse race. All you need to do is to do damage to your opponent. You do damage to your opponent in 3 ways 1: you take votes away from him. I have said this many times every vote I take away from you and add to my tally actually reduces or increases the gap by 2 votes. You also win by damaging your opponent in their strongholds. 2: you prevent your opponent from getting 25% in a state where they got a marginal 25% in previous election 3: you get 25% in a state you were not able to before. You don’t need to win a state. Gaining converts from “enemy” territory is not about winning the state. Remembered I think it was Ganduje who said all we asked Wike for in Rivers was 25%! I have said this before and only those who get the arithmetic of elections will understand, theoretically, in a 3 horse race, you can lose every state and still win overall. If one candidate is popular in the north and unpopular in the south and the other is popular in the south but unpopular in the North, the 3rd candidate can come second in all the states and win the election. |
affable4:Very important thing I forgot to mention: Our forex reserves includes gold, foreign exchange drawing rights and lines of credit that we have not used from foreign institutions such as IMF etc. it also includes things like gold as well as foreign bonds. Drawing rights are like an overdraft/loan facility. If you have a bank cash balance of 700k but the bank has given you an overdraft facility of 300k if you need it. Technically you have 1m available for you to spend but 300k of that is an overdraft. Forex reserves includes cash and other financial assets we own and money we can borrow. So anyone who says we should use our reserves to pay our foreign debt really doesn’t understand what he is saying. If such a person understood what he is saying is we should borrow to pay back our debt, he wouldn’t make such a statement. |
Not a fan of Otti, I think he is overhyped but kalu is a comedian! How he became a deputy speaker is one of the greatest wonders of this administration. I have said it elsewhere, the SE need to up their game re: the caliber of people Representing them. |
Sorry double post! Same as above |
affable4:Forex reserves is how much money is available in the official banking system to finance our imports. If you want to buy a product from Amazon and you pay with your Nigerian debit card, you are spending from our reserves. If an importer wants to bring in goods the $, RMB or £ comes from our reserves. Think of the reserves like your bank balance. You have a salary and you also also monthly expenses. Let’s say your salary is 100k a month and your expenditure is 90k a month and your bank balance is 1m. It means if you lose your job, (or if you are a member of a union that goes on strike and the your employer says no work no pay) you can go 11months until you are bankrupt and can’t feed yourself and your family. The bigger your bank balance the longer you can be out of work without a drop in your lifestyle. Same thing with forex reserves, every month we spend (I can’t remember the exact figure) I think it is $4b on imports. It means assuming all forex inflows stop we can only import for 10 months and there will be scarcity of imported items. Consider we import almost everything! Let’s go back to the guy earning 100k who spends 90k a month with a bank balance of 1m. Let’s say he want to invest for the future of his family and buy a plot of land for 700k because he feels it will be worth 1.4m in 2 years. Somebody is willing to lend him the money if he can pay 10k a month for 6 years, what should he do? Should he use the money in his savings or borrow the money? Bear in mind if he uses the money in his bank AC, it means if he loses his job tomorrow he only has 3 months reserves before he is hungry and can’t pay children’s school fees. The smart thing is to borrow the money, he still has his safety net of 10 months reserves (down from 11 due to 10k additional expense of repayments ) if he loses his job. He can maintain his lifestyle and invest for his family at the same time. In 2 years the land is worth 1.4m, if he decides to pay off the debt after only 2 years. He will have increased his wealth by 460k without the uncertainty that comes with with fear of losing his job and having no reserves. Same thing with govt. A bit more complex than this but that’s the general idea. Running a country is no different in principle from managing the finances of a household. You have income, you have expenses, you save for rainy day, you invest to build wealth and raise your standard of living, you borrow when it makes sense even if you have the money in your bank account. You don’t borrow to eat. I hope it helps. |
SpaceX:Hmmm. I guess he is getting a taste of his own medicine. |
Madmohamed1:What makes you sure they are Northerners? |
Judolisco:Blocked! |
Judolisco:The problem I face on Nairaland is dealing with people like you who just comment without any knowledge or initiative to take time to fact check before refuting my comments. This is one reason I block so many people. It is tedious dealing with ignorance. You have not read the constitution, yet you are commenting with so much authority and arrogance on a subject you clearly know nothing about? The second problem is people with poor comprehension skills. I specifically said in my post that in relation to GEJ there is a debate over whether it applies to him. That it applies to Aiyedatiwa is not in doubt. Spend less time watching BBN and don’t jump on my mentions unless you are sure of what you are saying or else a block awaits you.
|
Judolisco:The same law they are debating whether it applies to GEJ or not!
|
Franklin242:He is a Christian. Apart from the son who married Trump’s daughter, he has another son who goes by the stage name “Oyinbo rebel”. They know Nigeria more than you. Tell your patrons l they wasted their money lobbying Ted Cruz. This agenda is DOA.
|
seunowa:Ondo man knows he only has 1 term. He is constitutionally barred from contesting again. Work is not part of his “things to do”. |
bolaayenimo:He is talking because he is a minister in 2 administrations. Not bad for a lightweight politician. Some heavyweight politicians are not even assured of their party’s ticket for the next election and may have to settle for being a boy boy. |
AlphaTaikun:That he is the special envoy to Africa gives me some peace of mind that their plan will fail. I don’t think Trump will have an adviser that is more knowledgeable on Nigeria than him. He grew up in Nigeria and is a second generation Nigerian citizen. There are some “foreign” families like Leventis, Bjosons, Kweleram, Bolous that are more Nigerian than many Nigerians. They have more institutional knowledge of Nigeria than many Nigerians. His wife actually owns a cafe in V/I. We are in good hands. He is one of us. Even the way he pronounced “Tinubu” in the interview, you will know this is a white Nigerian. |
Badb0y4lyf:He is a Nigerian, he is a Christian, he is an in law to Trump as his son married Trumps daughter. He was the former MD of SCOA. His family is one of the many Lebanese that are entrenched in Nigeria they own Bolous enterprises, they had the franchise for Suzuki for decades. If you go to Ogba their factory is on the right on ACME rd.. They also manufacture toilet paper. If anyone knows Nigeria it is Bolous. If Trump will listen to anyone it is Bolous.l not some Mexican senator who has collected money from Obidient lobbyists in Texas to promote Christian genocide agenda.
|
Cocolatti:May I suggest a refresher course in the English language? The operative words in my comment was “this generation”. Another problem of epidemic proportions is that probably due to the fall in education standards, again many from this generation speak English but seem to have difficulty comprehending what they read. That’s why they now require Nigerians to take English proficiency tests when you apply to study abroad. |
CoronaVirusPro:I hope so. But I am under no illusions that foreign governments in the west do not want a Nigeria that works and will not be pleased with the economic news coming out of the country. Unfortunately they’re is never a shortage of willing actors who will betray their country for a few pieces of silver. Also unfortunately, most of the people who are engaged and participate in these protests are pawns and not gifted enough upstairs to know they are being used. |
CoronaVirusPro:I have said this many times. This generation of Nigerians only protest to copy what happens abroad The occupy protest was a copy cat protest (Occupy movement) The Endsars protest was a copy cat protest (black lives matter) The end bad governance protest was a copy cat protest (Kenya) This protest is a copy cat protest their aim is to replicate what happened in Nepal banglasldesh and Madagascar. They are Anarchists and they are sponsored by foreign agents I am 100% sure! |
bluefilm:He will spend a long time in jail. The fact that there has been a lot of outcry over the presidential pardons will make Tinubu think twice about granting him any pardon when convicted. |
It’s a pity the typical Nigerian is so mentally enslaved, lacking in self worth, and self respect that he treats enemies as friends and friends as enemies. |
The irony is that the people who stand to lose the most if a chain like Walmart sets up shop big time in Nigeria ultimately are the Ibos. They are the traders, they are the ones involved in shopkeeping. You think you can do fake or cheap products? You don’t have the bulk purchasing power of Walmart. When they negotiate with a supplier they are negotiating for over 10,000 stores. The price you pay for low quality at your Chinese supplier is more than what Walmart will pay for grade1 because when they negotiate with their suppliers they negotiate for all their stores worldwide. You can’t compete with Walmart. Walmart will undercut you with genuine products and will operate at a loss for 5 years if need be to wipe out their competition. So be careful what you wish for! Walmart sells everything from tyres and spare parts to TVs and electronics to groceries and toothpicks and they have their online store. They will wipe you lot out of the retail sector in 10yrs if they decide to take on Nigeria! So Please do t get it twisted, WallMart is not ShopRite that ran away. If they come to Nigeria Ibo retailers are in trouble! I have said I don’t want them here but if they do, I will not see a Walmart and choose to shop at a typical retail outlet where we dont know if the products are fake, dates altered, integrity of the supply chain etc. |
kpankpangolo:Try and be a bit patriotic. I personally don’t want them here because they are bringing nothing. We are a nation of traders, all they will do is wipe out existing traders, flood the market with American goods and repatriate their profits abroad. We don’t want or need fair weather foreign investment in sectors we are already capably operating in that replaces existing locals, we need foreign investment that creates new opportunities in manufacturing agric etc not retail. |
Saturnalia:Na mad man we dey send to answer mad man |
devote $3.6B over the next 2 years to establish agric industries/plantations in the 36 states at an average of $100m per state depending on their comparative advantage and once they are set up and running sell or reduce the govt's stake to 40% or less on the stock market. |
MadamExcellency:It show how simple minded people are. They are just playing to the gallery. Let me tell you some things legislators know for a fact..after all they are the ones who make the laws. 1) no state will be created but their constituents will reward them for fighting for a new state 2) the judiciary is independent and CANNOT intervene in an ongoing trial. 3) being seen to support Kanu helps SE legislators in the eyes of their voters, it doesn’t cost the rest of them to do them that favour and call on that good turn when they need them. 4) a lot of them (SE politicians) don’t want him out but it is politically expedient to seem to be fighting for his release. 5) Kanu is a threat to SE politicians, do you think they want someone of his stature out? Ordinary Obi is giving them headache and has taken their shine! 6) there are a few who may be sincere but I can guarantee you a lot of them don’t want him out and are happy where he is they just don’t want to appear not to be doing anything or take the blame when he is convicted. 7) why would a SE political leader want to release Kanu who will come out and be bigger than him…..who may even come out and say the people should not vote for him? The smaller politicians trying to make a name for themselves may want to use him for clout but why would the big SE politician want an uncontrollable man released that will diminish my influence in the politics of the region? Ordinary Obi has diminished their power and influence in the SE, you now think they will support the release of a man bigger than Obi? Do you know how embarrassing it is for a politician not to be able to deliver his state nationally? No SE politician delivered for his party in the presidential elections of 2023, now imagine if they had to contend with Kanu as well as Obi? Why is Akpabio senate president and not Orji Kalu? Why is the SE deputy speaker? Because they couldn’t deliver SE votes!! Think about that for a second! If after pondering that you still believe The powerful SE politicians want Kanu released, then I have a bridge in Ikoyi for sale at a good price. |
fergie001:I am actually disappointed he wore a suit. We should remove the toga of colonialism every chance we get and promote African culture especially now that the whole world is embracing African culture. You don’t see Arabs or Indian PMs wearing suits …….except that Uncle Tom imperialist lap dog from Jordan. I don’t think any Nigerian president should ever wear a suit. I always feel proud when I see these world leader group photos and we stand out in babanriga or agbada. |
