Foreign Affairs / Re: US Almost Launched Nuclear Weapons During Cuban Missile Crisis by Centrifude(m): 7:03am On Oct 30, 2015
America is the only Country to have ever used Nukes, the U.S is always most likely to strike first I don't think Russia would have the Stomach to start something like that.

Americans may look like morons, but they are savage, brutal, extremely destructive and very methodical.

Russia is good at feed and fanning wars but they've yet to fully prove that they can fight one.

Not convincing. At best they look like the crudest form of rockets. Nothing fantastic or scary about this.

Employ counter battery to ascertain launch positions and God bless there's an armed drone over the sky at launching, they'll be replied back with instant gnashing of teeth and heat.

This is how it starts, with nothing more then just pathetic small Amateurish looking rockets and if they are giving enough time, they'll be producing Hamas style kind of Rockets, and with the designs of Hamas Rockets easily available online I'm just hoping that these tiny rockets are where it will end.

I wouldn't really down play something like this, it reminds me of when B.H began 6years ago everyone thought nothing of them, or that they would turn into such a formidable... I pray that N.A is sending S.F units to hunt down such weapons and their creators.

South Africa?! I think you mean Nigeria, because Nigeria are the ones on top now we're no longer the guys to beat anymore, and why do things have to be a competition? Our Continent would be a lot better if you spent more time trying to grow each other then to completing against one another.

Another political move which will damage the SAAF and the career of those pilots in the force.

Though the decision was political, I still think this could work for us if we play our cards right. I just hope our Government and people will try juggling the West and East as well as India , because they are doing it brilliantly, they have a good relationship with both sides.

I won't lie it would be awesome to see Su-35s or Mig-35s in S.A colours and maybe we could also do some SuperHind style upgrades on them, mixing western and eastern tech.

This Is a great opportunity for us because we're no longer expect to take sides, like in the past.

It would be great to add Some Locally built Su-35s because Russia will allow that for the right price ofcourse.

Don't look at it as the end of the world.

Cameroon has just disgraced themselves and caused a million more problems by allowing 300 US troops into their land to "fight Boko Haram", Cameroon is a disgrace to Africa. I thought it was bad enough being a french colony in 2015 and now they are doing this.

Probably an indirect attempt at trying to humiliate Nigeria.

Russia and China have yet to fully integrate ther Stealth Crafts into their military while the F-22 and B-2 bombers have been around for a long time. So it when the Chinas and Russians finally come up with an answer to the F-22, F-35, B-2 etc.. The U.S would've created something much worse and more powerful.

We are not deployed in South Sudan, but in Sudan proper, Darfur to be exact. If it were up to me, the battalion in Darfur would be deployed in the DRC (part of SADC), specifically in the provinces of Equator and Orientale, to cut off supply lines to the Kivus. Then again, the politicians make all the decisions and we just maak n' plan!

Ohhh, thanx for the clarification, I've always assumed that the mission was in South Sudan because of all of the instability there no Sudan.

Now I'm just confused why we're in the north and not in the South.
Why deploy forces in a Country that has an army instead of country that is completely engulfed in civil war?

ACIRC is a futile duplicity of a more powerful, better resourced structure in the ASF, which has a near unanimous support from both AU and the EU.

Besides, even Zuma admits ACIRC is a stopgap and interim.

We understand Zuma wants desperately to leave a better image and reputation, aside the fact that South Africa is ever desperate for diplomatic relevance.

We see right through it.

I don't get why everything has to be a Competition with you.
It's not about Political relevance it's about solving our own problems as a continent. You're so busy trying to denounce our efforts at trying to creat a solution yet you fail to mention any other alternative solutions.

What exactly has the rest of the Continent been doing to create a rapid reaction force?

What you don't get is that ACIRC is designed to be easily integrated into the African Rapid Reaction Force once it's formed *whenever that will be*

People need help, and S.A has a lot of man power and equipment to offer.

Exactly! Most of those guys aren't even motivated to be there, I read that many Saudi low ranking Officers are from Yemeni tribe or of Yemeni descent.
Saudi Soldiers have proven to be useless they've been pushed back, and apparently Yemeni forces have been able to attack Saudi border cities.

Send their equipment to South-Africa..... Why

They should please send them to Nigeria cheesycheesycheesycheesycheesy ......... Eurofighter typhoon, Abrams Tanks, M-ATV, MRAPs and F-15 Eagles.

If Nigeria had half the equipment at the disposal of the Saudis, we won't have a boko-haram problem on the scale we have been seeing.

S.A is in serious need of heavy and medium lift aircraft, Tanks, IFV etc...

If we had that kind of money and equipment our ACIRC Force wouldn't be having so much trouble getting of the ground. We would be able to help many troubled Countries on the Continent, SANDF has the training and Motivation but lacks the funds and equipment to fully go out on its own and take on challenges without people interfering.

Nearest example is the DRC where we have Soldiers who are willing to fight but our Commanders can't do much because they take orders from the U.N who are basically useless, and our guys end up sitting for months in a Base without doing much, then they end up getting bored and do careless things like go out drinking and Sh!t.

No amount of expensive equipment can replace, well trained and motivated Soldiers.

Saudis should spend money on improving the quality of their Soldiers, and in the mean time they should send their money and equipment to South africa cheesy
Or other African Countries that could put such things to good use... I wouldn't even wana imagine the devastation countries like Kenya or Nigeria would inflict on Alshabab and Boko Haram if they had what the Saudis have.

Hoplessness of a useless defence force

Beleaguered SAAF apparently reaching out to SAA for assistance

The point has apparently been reached where the SA Air Force (SAAF) is aware it cannot fulfill its defence obligations and the airborne arm of the SANDF has turned to pilots flying for the national carrier, SAA, for assistance.
The Afrikaans Sunday paper Rapport said it has a copy of a memorandum sent to South African Airways (SAA) pilots last week. It asks them to help out as reserve pilots at a “few SAAF squadrons”. The paper points out the “emergency call” came in the same week the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) informed Parliament it could not depend on the air force in the event of a major shipping disaster, such as the Oceanos sinking in 1991.
Dr Cleeve Robertson, NSRI chief executive, told Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Transport 22 Squadron can “at best” put a pair of Oryx helicopters in the air to assist in sea rescue. He put it that the AFB Ysterplaat-based unit could “hardly” be called a squadron any longer.
The squadron apparently does not have any pilots currently qualified to land on vessels at sea. This has been put down to the non-availability of a platform for practice. The SA Navy supply vessel, SAS Drakensberg, is the preferred platform for this training but she has been out of commission for about 18 months undergoing a major refit and accompanying maintenance. She is now back in the water but has yet to be commissioned as fully seaworthy following the refit.
According to Rapport the memorandum issued by SAA Flight Operations is looking for pilots to increase “capacity” at certain squadrons. It goes on to state timescales will be finalised in the near future and, as soon as further information is available, this will be circulated.

No aircraft types are stipulated in the memo but there are any number of former SAAF members, who flew helicopters, light and medium transport, VIP aircraft and even jets now working at the national carrier. The paper spoke to serving SAAF officers who indicated that, in addition to aircrews for 21 Squadron, the VIP unit, aircrew was also urgently needed for the SAAF’s maritime capability.
“This,” the unidentified pilot said, “is fast reaching crisis proportions and maritime search and rescue can be said to be in the process of dying”.
Going back 10 years, 22 Squadron would be able to put six Oryx into the air while the squadron’s current situation is such it has one, possibly two, of the rotary-winged workhorses available at any given time.

"Apparently"

The same way the Navy "Apparently" Shot at the fishing boat a while ago, until it was revealed to be the Germans.

There is no evidence to support any of these claims.

I'm not buying it, Russia is just as bad as the U.S.

Russian made AK-47s have made it into the hands of Rebels, Criminals, terrorist etc...

Don't forget that the Ak is the most widely used Assault rifle on the planet especially by criminals and rebels.

I've already seen more than 6 videos of isis using High Tech Russian made '9M133 Kornet Anit-tank Missiles' in Syria and Iraq.

Awesome Visuals! I'll give it that.

But its extremely one sided.

It just shows the PLA attacking a vegitated force.
Its almost like playing Chess but without your opponent being able to make any moves.

You can't blame American training.

They are not responsible for the composition of forces countries they trained deploy.

Don't be fooled by the little tactical victories houthies score against them.

Nah dude look at the 50+ man tactical team of Iraqi Soldiers who were trained in the U.S they were suppose to be the best thing ever and they were torn apart on their first mission.

The American style of fighting and training rarely works for other people.

When you allow Americans to help you build up an entire unit or battalion from the ground up it tends to be disastrous.

Allowing your Military to be trained by Americans is an almost definite guarantee that they will be a horrible failure.
Buying expensive and the latest equipment is no replacement for good training.

Saudis would never survive against an African Country with a Significant Army, even Chad would send them back home with their tails between their legs.

Pak Fa T50 ,F35 and the Armata tank are still in the their testing phase. Comparing them doesn't make any sense yet. Reading their features online is one thing. Using them on the battle field is another where tactics will play a significant role.

And what do you mean by durable? Tanks are not roofing sheets or bath tubs. They blow up if they are hit directly no matter how armored they are.

The important question you should be asking is how many PAK FA and Armata can Russia really afford to buy and deploy?

Thank you!! Finally someone with common sense. The F-35 is already reported to have entired Service with the U.S Marines Already and the T-50 is still in its test phase.

Besides the amount of T-50s and Armatas the Russians can afford, the question is how well will it perform against the F-22 and F-35 or other west jets?
Foreign Affairs / Re: Beyond Propaganda: Russia- U.S Conventional Military Balance by Centrifude(m): 12:25pm On Aug 29, 2015
The problem is that you people always like assuming things.

You don't know anything about the T-50 yet you already assume that its the best.

You haven't seen its full flight and stealth capabilities but you think its already the best because its new.

When it comes to actual Air to Air combat Western Jets have proven superior to Russian and Israel is the Country that has proven this point.

In Conventional warfare Russia will most likely lose more soldiers than the US the same way they did in ww2, but they'd still manage to hold of the American. Russia suffered the most casualties during WW2. More than Japan actually.

Most analysts speculate that Russia managed to push back the Germans because of their numbers and ability to produce and replace dozens of tanks at a time.

So massing up a large number of troops is what will save Russia from the western quality of fighting.
