Oversite concrete pouring

Mechanical compaction
|
Back filling with Laterite soil Using laterite soil (clay )as back filling material should be done well and carefully Introduce water to allow for proper settlement Compact effectively to remove voids to avoid future differential settlement In our case we watered for couple of days and compacted with a mechanical compacting machine

BrickDevo:This things takes time to come out clean and crisp like this. Weldone sir. Mind giving me one of the apple? ![]() |
QSFemi:Yes. Provided an engineer is involved and some necessary factor of safety are implemented in design. More so, wind load on a building is highly affected by its surrounding, which may be the shape of nearby buildings, height of buildings or distance of surrounding buildings from the principal building |
twinskenny:I am more concerned that the building is tilting I might be wrong tho, might be from the camera position. In most cases, bungalows are built without structural design, but this right here needs one (A profound one).
|
EgunMogaji2:Architects are actually Oga everybody ![]() |
I cringed when I saw this on one of the site close to mine. This however is a honest appeal to all M and E guys, this is all shade of wrong and it will affect the structural integrity of the building. When in doubt, reach out to fellow professionals on the project. On every project site, communication needs to be in sync.
|
walexProjects:This gap has been bridged by BIM (building information modeling). BIM allows for multidisciplinary collaboration in real-time. All parties have access to all the information relating to a project in its current phase and are able to communicate with all other parties simultaneously via the building information model. The advantages of this process are centered around improved communication and coordination and include early detection or reduced risk of mistakes or discrepancies resulting in less rework, reduced costs and improved quality. Any architect, structural / mechanical or electrical engineer that has not embraced bim and the numerous advantage it brings is not ready for industry standard practice. |
Lunarrz:Hidden beam on floor slabs are just imaginary strength enhancement concept. The use of hidden beam are not beneficial to the behavior of slab. The principle that deflection of solid slab obeys still remains constant. ( Depth) The longer the slab span, the deeper the slab should be, some persons have wrongly adopted the 150mm (6’’ ) thickness. Well it’s not a one fix all thing. It is also worthy of note that slabs are majorly designed for deflection rather than strength, and as such there’s a permissible value for it. His engineer should investigate that and advise him further. To the OP Cracking your slab and recasting will create a line of weakness in the crack zone, so therefore you need to be careful. Possible solution Your Engr might want to consider composite steel beam and then conceal with some creative Pop finishes |
BigFrog:The truth is, while preparing structural design/analysis all of the bolded concerns are usually addressed (cracks/creeps | live and dead load). That infact helps the engineer to arrive at an informed decision on the grade of concrete and diameter of steel to be used for a structural member. (It is now a case of, was a structural design used or was there proper supervision?) Solution Since theres plan to add another floor, please get an engineer to perform a nondestructive test(NDT test) on the structure. This test will give detailed information about the slab and further advise will be given. |
obinnanwozuzu:This have proven to be cheaper at construction stage (if done well, you won’t have issues) But if not handled by folks with experience or professionals, maintenance overtime makes it more expensive I will share some of my personal considerations when planning/constructing hidden roof later. ————— Here are other cheap common type if you don’t want pitch or gable roof.

rmx:I like what I see here Clean straight lines What’s the beam (pillar to pillar) span? |
amosblisz:Introduction of chicken net is more of a reactive than proactive method of preventing crack on walls The proactive method involves 1)A good workmanship / supervision 2)Using the right kind of sand 3)Ensuring to remove impurities in sand 4)Getting the right plaster mix 5)Doing a proper foundation to prevent movement / settlement 6)Curing (to replenish excess water evaporation) —— The only point when introducing chicken net becomes proactive ( is when you introduce it between the joint between your column and wall). |

Happy sunday |
Amastermovic:A serious structural defect.
|
debeey87:Just like most contributors have said This looks more like cosmetic than structural In addition to what every other persons have rightly said, inpurities in plastering constituent (sand | cement | water) can also cause thinline cracks like this. |
princenomics:Sorry it just a random photo to drive done my point Attached is the chicken net mesh.
|
debeey87:A picture of the said crack will help give a more accurate answer But here’s what I shared awhile ago on similar case Possible Causes: 1) Foundation "is the foundation done properly or better still if the right foundation type was used." 2) Ineffective bonding between the blocks and mortar 3) Plastering mix ratio Remedy Get a structural engineer to help you determine if the crack is a major or minor one. If the latter is the case, before plastering, he should re add mortar to those crack lines in other to create a better bond between the mortar and block wall Then nail chicken nets to that area before plastering as shown in the attached picture https://www.nairaland.com/2550211/general-topic-thread-to-discuss-anything/1480#92117814

registerin:Sir I don’t know what you are doing But going through your posts I see a pattern. Everyone should do their due diligence. Thank you |
money121:No problem sir |
^^^ This is now looking like a charade Everyone should do their due deligence biko |
Wow A lot of water has passed under the bridge. Meanwhile, thanks to mountmoriah for supplying the reinforcement for our build POD https://www.nairaland.com/6781323/construction-process-5-flats-apartment/1
