Tears flowed freely on Friday as President Muhammadu Buhari; his wife, Aisha; and the wife of the Vice President, Dolapo Osinbajo, met with two women whose daughters are among the over 200 missing Chibok girls.

The emotional-laden encounter took place inside the Defence House, Abuja, where Buhari currently operates from.

Mrs. Osinbajo had earlier led the two women to a meeting with Hajia Buhari.

The President’s wife later led them into another round of meeting with Buhari.

By the time they emerged from the meeting and posed for photographs, the two women again broke down in tears while Mrs. Buhari held them tightly.

Mrs. Osinbajo also joined in the weeping.

The Vice President’s wife, with misty eyes, later told State House correspondents what transpired during the two separate meetings.

She said, “Hajia Aisha Buhari had, for many months, wanted to visit Chibok. She also wanted to meet with the mothers.


“Today, we had an opportunity for them to meet face-to-face. We had two of the mothers who still have their daughters missing after a year.

“Hajia, being a mother, met with them, held them and they cried, everybody cried. What only a mother will do is to say ‘wait, I want you to see your father and see what your father will do.’

“We were all extremely overwhelmed that at this time when the President is so busy, he had time to meet with the women from Chibok.

“He spoke to them in English and Hausa. He explained to them how he keeps telling everybody to put themselves in their place.

“So, today, we have had the opportunity for the President and Hajia to show that they are our father and mother, for that we are glad.”

Shortly after the photo session, security men quickly whisked the weeping mothers away.

Over 200 schoolgirls were abducted in Chibok last year.

All efforts to rescue them have yet to yield any positive result.

11. The National Assembly may make laws for the Federation with respect to the registration of voters and the procedure regulating elections to a local government council.

12. Nothing in paragraph 11 hereof shall preclude (prevent) a House of Assembly from making laws with respect to election to a local government council in addition to but not inconsistent with any law made by the National Assembly.

The RSHOA must therefore be allowed to carry out their Legislative functions that they were elected to perform which also includes probing the conduct of LG elections in their state. The recent election that only APC participated in three days to the end of former governor Amaechi's tenure must be dissolved by the RSHOA.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court judgment of Abia state which these LG Chairmen and their supporters are relying on averred that a 'Governor' does not have the Powers to ‘unilaterally’ dissolve elected chairmen. Nothing of that judgment ever said the HOA does not have such powers to dissolve.

Since APC wants to test their popularity in Rivers State, the RSHOA should dissolve the current LG Council, constitute a new RSIEC and conduct a fresh election where all parties would participate and test their popularity and any party that feels dissatisfied with the conduct can approach the LG election tribunals.

RSHOA will and as a matter of urgency dissolve all the LG Chairmen and their Councilors in the interest of the state and if they (the dissolved LG Chairmen and APC) feel dissatisfied, they should go to Court and get a fresh interpretation from the Court. The State HOA have such powers to dissolve especially when it is established that the elections were marred with irregularities, were poorly organized or some parties feel they were disenfranchised.

Today APC Senators are threatening to go to Court to nullify the emergency of Sen. Bukola Saraki cos they feel they were disenfranchised during the Senate election. Why shouldn't PDP do same against the LG election in Rivers State

These miscreants that are protesting should allow our Legislators carry out their Legislative functions that they were elected to perform. The illegal election that only APC participated in must be dissolved by the RSHOA.
The Supreme Court judgment of Abia state which these LG Chairmen and their supporters are relying on averred that a 'Governor' does not have the Powers to ‘unilaterally’ dissolve elected chairmen without first passing through the HOA. It never said the HOA does not have such powers to dissolve. The HOA can pass a resolution for elected LG Chairmen to be suspended or dissolved and the Governor will give his accent by making the proclamation which would then be published in the state gazette.
Since APC wants to test their popularity in Rivers State, the RSHOA should dissolve the current LG Council, constitute a new RSIEC and conduct a fresh election where all parties would participate and test their popularity.

RSHOA will dissolve the LG Council and if they (the dissolved LG Chairmen and APC) feel dissatisfied, they should go to Court and not disturb the peace of the state with illegal APC sponsored protest.

Senators who stayed away from Tuesday’s inauguration of the national assembly have finally been sworn in by the new senate president, Bukola Saraki. There was drama when Remi, wife of Bola Tinubu, refused to shake hands with Saraki after her swearing-in on Wednesday morning, leaving his hand hanging and muttering some words to the senate president in a low tone. Saraki had on Tuesday outwitted Tinubu-backed candidate, Ahmad Lawan, in the race for the nation’s No. 3 position. However, other newly sworn-in senators‎ shook hands with the senate president. They were all absent at the inauguration as the ruling party had called for an emergency meeting simultaneously and could not be sworn in as required by law before they could take their seats in the red chamber. Lawan, who was the preferred APC candidate, and George Akume, who was the preferred deputy, were both sworn in on Wednesday morning. Twenty-six other senators-elect were also sworn in‎. Some of them include APC senators Abdullahi Adamu (Nasarawa) Bukar Abba Ibrahim (Yobe), Gbenga Ashafa (Lagos), Olusola Adeyeye (Osun), Isiaka Adeleke (Osun), and Shehu Sani (Kaduna). The senate thereafter went into a closed-session at 10:58 am. APC had, in a press statement on Tuesday evening, instructed the absentee senators to report for the traditional swearing-in.
