Contact ncdc or the state emergency response team immediately

It is no longer news that the covid-19 pandemic is gradually penetrating deeply into the fabrics of our common existence and the need for all hands to be on deck to fight this scourge cannot be over emphasized.

It is also no longer news that the government, both at federal and state levels, have set up emergency response teams to help in this fight but what is news is that the front-liners in this fight vis-a-vis health workers, have been completely sidelined.

This was confirmed today at the channels TV sunrise daily by the NMA chairmen of Kano and Oyo states in the persons of Dr Sunusi Bala Muhd and Dr Akin Sodipo respectively.

Both men confirmed that NMA is not included in the state emergency response team for Covid-19 and one wonders if those at the front line at not directly involved in the fight, what then are we fighting really? This may be the situation in others states.

This could explain why the rapid response team is not really rapid in their response because those that should understand the urgency of the situation have been sidelined. You put a call to the response team and 48 hours later you are yet to get any response from them, and the disease keeps spreading.

At the National level the story is not different in terms of composition of the team, one would have expected the NMA national chairman should have been a member of the PTF because he relates directly with his members, the Chairman of NANNM should also have been a member.

This is not time to play politics, it is time to put the right people in the right places because covid-19 fears no face, it does not discriminate and if anyone thinks it hasn't gotten to them, they should think twice because its just a matter of time.

NCDC is trying their best with the resources within their disposal, however, the data is a far cry from the real number of people infected.

They should all be prosecuted.... I forgot they are above the law....

By the way, who permitted them to attend the burial?

I thought the government said covid-19 corpses will not be released to relatives.... Some people are apparently above the law and that is why this war against this pandemic will be difficult to win

I hope not cos this has got to be the most idiotic reasoning that should never come from any local council spokesperson let alone at the federal level.

I hope it's fake news. While we can understand the devastating situation of the bereaved, no one should have taken social distancing and isolation more seriously than those close to the situation. Yet, they had to throw all caution away, endangering themselves and the entire country. They were extremely reckless and thoughtless. No country can thrive with people like these. Facial masks and gloves or not. If kitting up makes so much of a difference, then imagine everybody kitting up as well and abandonin isolation.

Its quite unfortunate the crop of leaders we have in this country, leaders who say one thing and do exactly the opposite...pity!!!

A very irresponsible and wicked Covid-19 patient knew his status, hid it from family, friends and associates and went on a spreading spree in Kano.
God will judge him and many like him who have put us all in harm’s way.

THE STORY

“I wanted to be silent about this.

But since it's already on Radio and TV stations, ..and the concerns about my health by many who have reached out,

...it has become imperative for me to tell my COVID-19 mileu.

Here's the story...

One Alhaji BZ (not real names initials) came to our hospital.

He had COVID-19.

Unknown to us all.

While evaluating him, he was asked,
"How can we help you sir?"

He replied,
"I've been having fever and general body weakness. Please admit me."

Inquired,
"For how long now?"

He replied
"For some days?

More questions,
"Do you have cough, breathlessness or palpitations?"

Alhaji BZ replied,
"No", I don't have any of that."

Many other medical questions were asked and documented.

Furthermore,
"Did you travel recently?"

He denied,
"No."

He was further evaluated, examined and admitted into a private room upstairs on Friday evening.

He had contact with two doctors (my boss and I), three nurses and one non-medical staff.

It was unknown to us that he had travelled to Germany, the US before returning to my resident state Via Abuja travelling by road

While travelling by road he stayed briefly in Kaduna before arriving to my resident state on the 25th March, 2020.

He lied about all these travel history to us.

He also lied about the pertinent Coronavirus symptoms, ..breathlessness and cough.

He also hid the fact that he had been to several medical outlets since his return to the state.

And importantly, he hid the fact that that his samples were taken by NCDC for COVID-19 testing.

Ofcourse he denied and lied about all the above in order for him to have our medical care.

Putting us all and many others at high risk of the novel pandemic.

We also learnt that during his illness before coming to us, he was attending Friday Mosque prayers, naming ceremonies and other gatherings.

While on admission in our facility, a day after admission being a Saturday, we had a Nollywood-like dramatic entrance into our facility by health officials with massive Police presence.

The major road around our hospital was blocked and made a Security Restricted area.

He was the index case in the state, ...reason for this.

The officials told us that we had a man in our facility that just tested positive for COVID-19.

Luckily, my boss, a reknown Neurosurgeon, who was still in theatre while rounding up a delicate Spinal Cord Pedicle Screw Fixation + Laminectomy surgery had to be told.

He derobed.

And met the officials.

There was an order from the Governor of the state to lock down the hospital immediately to prevent further spread.

Alh BZ was whisked away to a quarantine centre outskirt of the state.

We were placed on isolation too in our hospital facility.

Samples were taken from our staff for covid-19 testing.

For many days, we could not physically reach our families or anyone.

Isolated up in the hospital.

The waiting began.

Days rolled by.

Anxiety.

All thoughts crept in.

At some point, my boss and I told ourselves that if it's either positive or negative, we will beat the disease.

Infact we told ourselves that "even if its death, so what !!! We will be dying while in service to humanity."

When the days rolled by, we began to have some peace.

Infact we were playing Fela Anipolakuti's music loudly.

Also had Gospel and several country music played.

For many days.

Then the tension began.

The result of our COVID-19 was to be released in a few more days.

The music volume daily bece louder. �

Phone calls and prayers from family and friends were enormous.

At last the result came out yesterday 15 April, 2020 w afternoon.

And it was NEGATIVE for all is us.

We are still waiting to be released from isolation.

Two Police vehicles have been in our gate since all these started.

They were excited yesterday when our result was released and found to be negative.

They are waiting for directives to let us go home.

We thank Almighty God for everything.

We will keep saving lives.

No matter the cost.”

I think you still need to be in isolation, don't go home yet, you may need another test later. God will protect you and all health workers.

Which sample was taken because in your boss' result which we saw, the nature of the specimen was not indicated.

Channels TV interviewed some of the survivors of covid-19 today. One of those interviewed was the Executive Governor of Bauchi State, Governor Bala Mohamed. In his response to question regarding observance of social distancing while in the mosque after his discharge, he said:

"We exercised social (physical) distancing while praying in the Mosque"

In response to why there is no lock down in Bauchi he rather said he had expected the FG to lock down Bauchi after Lagos, FCT and Ogun but that he was surprised the President did not.

He also said that the economic reality on ground in Bauchi will make it difficult for him to lock down the state

Let us not rejoice yet.... It is not yet Uhuru.
