I don't see what the big deal is. She said being nominated for the Caine prize doesn't make you the best "African" writer, emphasis on African. Guys remember she too was once nominated for the award. She is not saying those guys are bad writers she is just saying when it comes to novels withe real African content and soul she does not look up to "Caine committee" to provide the best, rather she looks up to her workshop ppl, who are by the way real africans and Nigerians to do do the research and send the best novels to her inbox.simple. It makes sense that she chooses to believe a real African commitee's verdict over the foreign Caine prize. Yes agreed if u are biased about this lady, her predisposition in the interview may seem arrogant. For those of you who try to compare writers and rate one above the other, shouldn't it be determined by your taste. It's like comparing rice and beans and asking which one tastes better. djon78: Mr iyfe enough of these cursing, no body is saying that medical practice in naija is up there no, there a lot of improvemnt needed, but as far as heart surgery is concerned UNTH is renowned for that pioneered by Prof Martin Aghaji. He is a world renowned heart surgeon infact among the best in the world. He has been doing this surgery as far back as late 1990's cos I knew about it back then in Enugu. Concerning your friends relation dying, people can die durng the course of surgery even in westeren health centres example stella obasanjo, Kanye west mum and many others have died during the course of surgery it does happen, surgery is a very big risk talkless of heart surgery.hehehe. Why are you telling him to stop cursing. He should by all means continue. He will soon join his mum in India. Na for net the small boy go come dey form warrior. I hope he told prof Mac off when he was told the price for the surgery. Secondly I repeat surgery in India is not cheaper. Check the cost of everything on the long run. Mr Iyke. Sometimes I wonder why people think like you. First of all no doctor dictates d price in any government hospital, secondly you may have gone to the man for private services, hence you went to his private hospital. What kind of an adult bases his generalizations just on an encounter with one individual. Is he the only cardio thoracic surgeon in nigeria? You wanted the best, hence that price. I think you should google how much that man has accomplished. It's like going to America and requesting for dr Ben Carson's private services, trust me you will pay through your nose. And please your lies about India being cheaper is quite childish. I know how much a hip replacement or laminectomy costs over there and I know how much it costs here, not to talk of traveling expenses. I can fully understand the emotions going through your head then, your loved ones life was on the line and you needed prompt results and here was this world reknowed surgeon telling you to pay what you can't afford, hence your biased hatred for doctors. Always be true to yourself. Don't go through life clouding your judgements with bias. |

to the dude that is suggesting corrective r.ape, i feel you are a real danger to society. i cant even think of having credible meaningful argument with most people on this thread because no is one making statements based on facts. when you close your eyes to the possibility of another existence different from yours,then you have chosen to remain stagnant for life. i just wish nigerians would read more and get more enlightened. So let's say you are at a medical outreach and the chief medical officer asks all those who have syphilis to step out, and you step out then instead of giving you some medication he throws you a dirty slap and tells you that you are free to die with your disease. What would you do? Are you supposed to keep quiet because the case is a medical case that u know nothing abt? Na WA for una.and all of you who keep saying don't judge should tell that to your megalomaniac pastor who immediately condemned the minor to hell. Isn't that d ultimate judgement. The truth is that we are a rude ppl. Right from birth we are raised with brute force, incessant physical lashings without trying to logically and diplomatically iron out matters, as such we learn to only give respect to those who we assume to be above us and mete out ridiculously demeaning attitudes to others who we assume to be nobodies. We all work around with overblown egos and a certain undeserved sense of accomplishment. Sagamite:Sagamite i hope you know this is exactly how white people used to feel about black people during the slavery days. The very existence of black people was so appalling to them not to mention inter racial relationships. then interracial relationships were a no-no and a one way ticket to hell, and some how this racist could still justify their heinous crimes with the same bible that we use today. The problem is that nigerian parents confuse fear with respect. They are many ways to discipline a child without being physically abusive. I have a wonderful father, that is by nigerian standards but i cant help but feel some resentment towards him for somethings he did to me when i was a kid. i can vividly remember him stopping his car by the road side to brake off a branch and using it to beat my sister black and blue for spilling orange juicee on his car seat. i was just 6 and she was 8. i was traumatized. when iwas in med school i flopped one of my exams, and this was the first time ever failing anything in my entire life, my father didnt care, he made sure he made my life a living hell, he wasnt violent but he really depleted my self esteem. he told all his friends how i was a useless student, my anger wasnt that he was angry that i failed, my anger was that he was lying to people about me, knowing fully well that i had been an excellent student until that incident. in truth i dont think i respect my father, i just fear him but i still love him because he has a very generous and kind heart. its funny how we never forget the bad things our parents did or do to us but we forget the good ones |

in as much as i try so hard not to be bigoted in issues like this, i cant help but be islamophobic. its like they love violence. i also know the media has not helped matters in over exaggerating this negative part of islam. i have come to the conclusion that islam is not a religion of peace and they know it, as a christian, i also know that the old testament of the bible also supports violence so much, and thats the difference between us and muslims we have accepted the fact that the old testament predisposes one to violence and therefore have decided not to follow all its example hook line and sinker, but the muslims all pretend like there's nothing violent about theirs even while maiming and destroying lives. its called living in denial. and for all you muslims that say u love peace, my question is wat have u done to better educate your very violent brethren? we wont get anywhere just by lip service u know |
