Mind you there was a time in 2014 when there was a heavy recommendation for admitting Nigeria and changing the organization's name from BRICS to BRINCS So sad how deep Nigeria has sunk today from self-inflicted issues as a result of incompetent and untrustworthy government and leaders in Nigeria. African countries and BRICS understand that Nigerian leaders of this decade are mere puppets of Western powers using them to frustrate any great initiative for Africa. Workch:Oga, You got it right! What happens in Anambra does not and should not be your concern. Despite the paucity of funds, there is clear evidence that Soludo is trying his best to intervene in nearly all collapsed roads in Anambra state. He even dared to delve into the urban-renewal of Anambra cities and demolish illegally built structures on public drainage channels. It is no small feat in a state like Anambra harboring too many powerful and lawless overlords. Especially if you consider that no serious effort to rebuild internal city roads in Onitsha and Nnewi has happened since 1996 during the burial of Zik. That is more than 27 years ago now! Yes, videos look unimpressive now because of mud everywhere due to road construction in the rainy season. But you can clearly see that effort is being made to build gutters and therefore make sure that the roads are eventually built to be solid and long-lasting. 3 Likes |

Chikeluba25:Soludo is doing a fantastic job to rebuild Anambra cities! I hope he does not relent until the final liveable cities are achieved in Anambra. It has been long overdue to have real urban renewal in Anambra urban centers to make them habitable and beautiful. The whole thing looks unimpressive now, but if Soludo keeps to his promise to sustain these projects until all these roads and projects are achieved, he would have performed a miracle in transforming Anambra cities from their present chaotic, unplanned, & congested nature into well-planned, attractive and progressive cities that generate wealth. Nothing in this world is outside the knowledge of an average Nigerian! Even if he lived his entire life in the village, he would tell you what South Africans eat for breakfast, lunch, and dinner! Their total disdain for research on a topic in order to speak facts is regrettable! I believe it all starts from the nature of things in Nigeria where people ignorantly speak with audacity, and make false claims without being held accountable for the harm they caused. For instance, you hear quack chemists claim to be pharmacists and medical specialists, thus prescribing that taking rat poison would kill the cancer cells in the human body! You hear native doctors become very rich out of the claim that they have the power to make people disappear and become immune to bullets. Yet, they cannot disappear from kidnappers and are scared of being shot by them that they remain in captivity until the kidnapper's ransom is paid! It is the same spirit of just opening one's mouth to thoughtlessly speak and make claims to the knowledge they do not possess that has driven this Pastor into making the types of claims about knowing what black americans need or do not need. Armon:If Soludo eventually dualizes many roads in Awka and build durable roads in other Anambra cities, he will end up being one of the greatest governors that ruled Anambra. My hope is that he will stay the course and truly mean business. Anambra's cities are like the former Port Harcourt of the 1990s. Unplanned, congested, and with only dual carriageway road in the city as the Aba-PH expressway. However with firm determination, wise investment of the 13% derivation under the OBJ regime and a lot of demolitions by Rotimi Amaechi for roads expansion, Port Harcourt eventually had a very nice road network! Soludo can do the same in Anambra cities but it takes A LOT of determination and persistence to achieve. 6 Likes |

There are currently too many hurdles and too many steps in establishing anything in Nigeria. Even after one year of making the video for Soludo to use in developing Anambra, all his recommendations from roads to housing to industrialization strategy are 100% valid and well thought out! TabletMan:I know Niger Street when it used to be good during my childhood days and when it became impassable for more than 20 years! Yes, if you really look at it, no Governor in Anambra's history had summoned the courage to tackle the cesspool of infrastructural decay and lawless fiefdom that had become of Onitsha. The reason that Onitsha which used to be the second largest commercial city in Nigeria in the 1980s remained stagnant was because no Governor did what Soludo is doing. The priority was always to develop the "capital" either Enugu or Awka and allow the biggest city in the state to decay and die. Unfortunately, it also meant the dearth of the southeast economy as people preferred to migrate to Lagos and elsewhere for business. Of course, Soludo cannot even dent the surface of the huge generational infrastructural decay in Onitsha even if he collected a N500 billion naira loan. Talk more when he starts to waste too much money in constructing just one road using multinationals. We all know that a city like Abakaliki with many smooth roads had 100% of those roads built by local contractors often using DIRECT LABOR. So we know that it is possible to rebuild and reconstruct all the internal roads within our key cities if we are careful on how it's awarded and we supervise the contractor thoroughly. Like Ned Media once mentioned in his video, the strategy to change the bad intra-city road narrative in Anambra and particularly in Onitsha isn't to construct just one very expensive and good road using multinational companies in a huge metropolis. The answer is in constructing several roads critical and alternative link roads to reduce traffic congestion and make the city liveable. Being mindful that achieving this feat of reconstructing Anambra's cities is practically impossible for the financial capacity of a state like Anambra, the only alternative will be to use reputable local companies and supervise them very closely to ensure that they deliver very high-quality roads. TabletMan:It is actually very wise of Soludo to use local contractors and direct labor to fix internal city roads and drainages in his urban renewal & regeneration program. That level of reconstruction of streets does not warrant awarding such minor jobs to multinational construction giants to merely rebuild broken down streets and intracity roads. That would amount to a wanton waste of resources in a state with scarce resources and almost every other street is in an appaulling state of disrepair. Soludo should sustain the current pace of roads and drainage construction. I feel disheartened that it started rather later than earlier. This puts us on the cusp of the rainy season now that his road projects have kicked off. Nonetheless, it should continue somehow. There is really NO NEED to keep mentioning the names of Asian countries like Singapore, Malaysia, or UAE in qualifying what is happening in Anambra. It smacks of a deliberate intention to hyper-exaggerate and deceive. We already know Soludo is really trying and doing his best based on the available resources. We are all praying that he sustains the current momentum. Singapore and Dubai always referenced were created via good governance that attracted investments in those countries. The government even in America cannot build everything. The role of government is merely to CREATE AN ENABLING ENVIRONMENT through the right policies & basic infrastructure for the private sector to drive development. It was Yew who, through his ingenious vision and astute leadership, led the economic transformation of Singapore into a modern-day wonder. Lee Kuan Yew passed away in 2015, but his legacy thrives on. No doubt, the world will continue to witness amazing stories like those of Singapore and Yew in diverse measures. Closer home, comes the big question: will Anambra State become a Singaporean marvel under the leadership of Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo? Well, if the last one year of performance in infrastructure development by the governor is anything to go by, a Singaporean experience is surely in the offing in Anambra State As an accomplished economist who had served as a presidential economic adviser and Central Bank Governor, Prof. Charles Soludo came to become the Governor of Anambra State with a rich hindsight that there cannot be economic transformation without infrastructure investments. Today in our series of x-raying his achievements under one year, we shall examine his score card in that regard. On hitting the ground sprinting from his first day of being sworn in as governor, Soludo has had a crystal clear vision which was well spelt out in his now famous manifesto, (The People's Manifesto). And one of the core areas he addressed succinctly was to transform Anambra State into “a livable and prosperous smart megacity” and “Africa’s new axis of sustainable prosperity”. A place where people, Ndi Anambra and visitors alike, would prefer to live, learn, work, invest, relax and enjoy. In order to actualize that grand vision, the economist in Soludo knew that he must invest massively in critical infrastructure. True to his vision, the governor took off aggressively under one of his 5-Solution policy pillars, namely Infrastructure and Economic Transformation. Within 12 months, Soludo’s Anambra became what observers now routinely call a ‘huge construction site’. It is neither tales by moonlight nor playing to the gallery. It is a verifiable daylight reality of concrete achievements by a quiet achiever despite the obfuscating aura of political distractions and controversies cast around him by his traducers. For a start, Governor Soludo early last year declared a state of emergency on roads in order to improve road infrastructure throughout the state. Swinging into action, he awarded and flagged off 261 km road contracts crisscrossing all the 21 local government areas of Anambra State. Today, some of the awarded road constructions have been completed while others are under various stages of completion. Even more reassuring is that the road projects come with complementary full-scale desilting of drainages and are designed to last at least 20 years! In addition to major road constructions, reconstructions and rehabilitations, the Soludo administration also embarked on palliative works on many roads across the state, thereby making them motorable for Ndi Anambra as was enjoyed during the last festive season. With the improving road infrastructure, Anambra’s economy is being primed for robust flourishing. Taking the journey of infrastructure and economic transformation further, Governor Soludo also latched on to improving power supply. His government developed a clear road map to 24/7 electricity in Anambra State, being executed in collaboration with power sector partners with the ultimate goal of providing regular power in key cities over the next 2 years. For instance, the government signed an MOU with Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC), thus building a collaborative pact that has engendered the steadily improving power supply across Anambra State till date. In fact, some feeders in the state are now receiving 22 hours of power every day. Aside that, the Soludo government has also converted over 6,380 diesel-powered streetlights to solar to sustainably keep our streets well lit at night at minimum cost. What is more, the Phase 2 of converting additional 11,000 more street lights to solar is underway. When an improved power supply meets a state of improved security, the result is a buoyant night economy already emerging in Anambra! The plan encompasses the modernization of water transportation for riverside areas in the state; the construction of bus terminals at Ekwulobia, Awka, Onitsha and Nnewi; strict adherence to civil aviation safety and operational standards at the airport; refurbishment and repair of existing boats and water buses; continuing work to complete the Anambra International Airport; completing a feasibility study for sky train with a pilot in Onitsha, with exploring financing options; and rejuvenating Anambra Transport Management Agency to address the traffic chaos. Still, the journey goes on. From Samuel Taylor Coleridge’s poem, ‘The Rime of the Ancient Mariner’, comes the famous line: ‘water, water everywhere and not a drop to drink’. In Anambra State, water is everywhere around us too but is often not clean or safe enough for Ndi Anambra to drink and use for other purposes. Yet, water is an essential part of any economic transformation. That is why the Soludo government also kept faith with improving water resources for the people. Thus, the government conducted hydrogeological and hydrological mapping of the state; developed a concession plan for water supply in Onitsha, Awka, Nnewi, Ihiala, Aguata and other areas; rehabilitated and resuscitated water supply to the state Secretariat Complex; and collaborated with UNICEF to rehabilitate 98 hand pump boreholes in the 7 LGAs. If usable water availability is essential, food security is indispensable. This brings us to the agriculture aspect of Soludo’s economic transformation journey. Conscious of the need for healthy nutrition, Governor Soludo launched a regenerative agriculture project aimed at producing natural (organic) food through sustainable means. He went further to attract donor agency funded Small Holder Horticultural Empowerment Project (SHEP) to Anambra. He embarked on a new Palm and Coconut revolution drive by procuring and distributing 220,000 oil palm seedlings and 150,000 coconut seedlings for poverty alleviation and economic growth. Also procured and distributed were Ukwa (1000 seedlings), Ogbono (1000 seedlings), Akilu (1000 seedlings), Guava (1000 seedlings) and Sour Sop (1000 seedlings). And to cap the massive support to Anambra farmers, the Soludo administration undertook mass distribution of free farm inputs to farmers through the FADAMA Covid-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus (FADAMA CARES) which included fertilizers, cassava stems, poultry feeds, day-old chicks (DOCs), improved rice seeds, herbicides and pesticides. Food security is growing. But that’s not all. Someone once said that industry is fortune’s right hand. It is true. How would the economic transformation of Anambra State be complete without a thriving industry? How would Anambra attain a Singaporean prosperity without industrial flourishing? Or how would Ndi Anambra make a fortune out of opportunities without industrialization? This made the Soludo government to also prioritize huge infrastructure investments in industry. First, his government developed a framework for the development of industrial cities that will catalyze rapid economic growth of the state. Then, 53 hectares of land have been acquired in Ukpo (more expected from Ukwulu to make 100 hectares) for the development of an export emporium and Africa’s largest shopping mall. The Soludo government has further embarked on the construction of the wholesale drug market at Oba to become the largest open drug distribution market in Africa, as well as started the clearing of a 200 hectares Anambra State Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Hub in Ogboji to house over 100 pharmaceutical companies, a pharmaceutical school and so on. Digitally, to enable the vision and emergence of Anambra as a connected, modern, smart megacity, the Soludo administration has commenced the construction of 2,000km of fibre optic ducts to ensure last mile connectivity. Imagine the resultant digital economy possibilities! Other infrastructure investments include designing and commencing the construction of a Leisure/Entertainment hub around Agulu Lake (African Disneyland); acquiring about 250 hectares of land and signing a PPP agreement with 7 companies for the new Awka City, with 3 companies already on site; and putting back on stream 4 of non-functional 21 housing estates inherited by the Anambra State Housing Development Corporation (ASHDC). So far, so eventful has been Governor Soludo’s one-year journey to transforming Anambra State economically with massive infrastructure investments. If, according to the World Bank, development happens through structural transformation which shifts the balance of economic activity towards higher productivity manufacturing and service sectors, then Soludo is on the right track. And as the tireless governor sustains his giant infrastructure development strides, Anambra State could well end up being a modern Singaporean wonder after all. These lands should be gazette by the state house of Assembly so that only industries are allowed within the special industrial zones. My disappointment with Anambra right now is the mindset of doing things shabbily. See Abakaliki Street (Club Road) which was just completed, with no road markings, red sand on the side, and gutters open. I wonder when we will begin seeing well-built and marked roads with an effort to plant trees and flowers. I'm just tired of the half-hearted attempt to rebuild the state and make it the so-called "Dubai". OreMI22:Well, Soludo is aggressively tackling the dearth of road infrastructure in the state. My hope is that he means it and not doing so merely for elections. If Soludo is able to tackle the issue of bad roads in Anambra cities as well as build a world-class international market or modular refinery near the airport, he would have contributed immensely to the future greatness of the state. My only concern is for Soludo to forget politics for now and face his work! Las las, he will be judged by what he was able to achieve NOT what he said or didn't say. I pray for him to remain 100% focused on his work and deliver good governance to many many people that fervently hoped for him to succeed in delivering the dividends of infrastructural transformation of the state. I even used a nairalander to fence it and install gate on the property. I say this so that you know I'm not making this up. I know exactly what has prevented many of us abroad from building in Awka. Many have bought land in Enugu Heliu estate or fully built homes in other estates. Some of those individuals are here in this forum too. Yes, AMC is excellent if you can afford it. We MUST generally up our game in making Anambra cities what they ought to be. Those who take offense when we are trying to improve our state are mistaken in what it takes to get things right. I don't think any good Anambra person will be offended that we are holding our leaders responsible to fix our homeland. Instead of the honestly silly mindset of trying to defend these issues so that other equally silly citizens of other states would not mock us. They can mock, we know we are still better. AdJosh:Well, it is not Soludo's fault that previous regimes failed to develop the Anambra capital city. I just hope he listens to the advice in the video to ensure the PLANNED development of Awka and other Anambra major cities. Instead of the usual chaotic way of building up slums everywhere in the name of development. Personally, this issue has prevented me from developing my land in Awka. Since it might amount to spending money to build in a place likely to become another uninhabitable slum. I hope Gov. Soludo takes the issue of planlessness and chaotic development of Awka and other Anambra major cities very very seriously. Ndibunna:What has made the mention of Biafra very very distasteful is the crude and authoritarian manner that some illiterates have pursued and hijacked it. I prefer not to mention it again. After all the sacrifices of people that died in the struggle, we watched mere criminals hijack the struggle just to use it as another money-making venture to scam people! If Biafra were the Biafra of 1967 that exalted and prioritized innovation, technology, probity, and a general sense of deep patriotism for the progress of the Biafran state, many would still prefer it over Nigeria. The tragedy is that criminals like Simeon Ekpa saw it as a money-making opportunity to grab power and assassinate his perceived enemies. The display of primitiveness and criminality by the so-called "auto-piloters" killed the remaining hope of a successful Biafran state run by credible men of integrity. Which would not end up like another South Sudan run by criminals and warlords once we got our independence. It took Ngige to come into the office before the groundbreaking of the project commenced. Ngige, Obi, and Obiano contributed in various ways to developing the current Anambra road network. However, I totally agree that Gov. Obiano did the boldest projects that broke the jinx of Anambra being a quasi-urban state. Today, nobody is in doubt that Anambra is a truly urban state. That can host the largest conferences in Africa, and with enough hotels and other urban logistics on its territory to successfully pull it off. I hope Gov. Soludo will work out a strong homegrown maintenance system to ensure the state roads are not allowed to all breakdown and therefore impossible to rebuild from the scratch. This is a key priority now. Else all the gains made under Ngige, Obi and Obiano to link up the state with tarred roads would ultimately go to waste. Most importantly, Governor Soludo should develop the concept of the developmental nucleus with the 6 major cities in Anambra as the nucleus of each. Perhaps, the state House of Assembly should declare these cities as developmental nodes to accord them special status. Where construction permits are required. Just as we currently practice in Awka. The absence of laws made Anambra cities develop organically and haphazardly. Which has led some to refer to them as urban slums. We must not allow the mistakes of the past to repeat again by allowing our cities to develop without a master plan. Thus the need to recognize these key cities now and carefully develop a master plan for their evolution as habitable urban centers. 1. Onitsha 2. Awka 3. Nnewi 4. Ekwulobia 5. Aguleri 6. Ihiala These strategically placed cities as true urban centers will attract high-end individuals to set up factories, modern markets, and housing areas in them. Chikeluba25:One hopes that Soludo will continue to devise a way of using Direct Labour to address the mammoth challenge of bad roads within the major Anambra cities. It is obvious that due to how massive the collapse of road infrastructure is within Anambra cities, not even the budget of Lagos State can address the situation by awarding all the roads as "Contracts". Let contracts to construction companies be used for building roads traversing from one part of the state to another. While internal city roads and drainage gutters are purely by DIRECT Labor through a special committee on Anambra internal city roads that reports directly to the governor. If we learned anything from the administration of Sam Egwu and Umahi in gradually transforming the city of Abakaliki as the best good roads network in the southeast, it is the fact that they both used DIRECT LABOUR to gradually rebuild every street and every gutter in the city. That is the ONLY cost-effective method that can be employed to transform the internal city roads in Awka, Onitsha, Nnewi, Ekwulobia, etc. We cannot afford the method of awarding "contracts" for our internal city roads in Anambra state. It is very annoying when people who totally REFUSE to pay their taxes are often the most vocal people demanding good roads and lamenting poor infrastructure in the state. It is even more annoying that the same bus owners refusing to pay monthly taxes in Anambra are doing exactly the same in Asaba, Enugu, Lagos, and Kano! So why do you gladly pay taxes in other states, but refuse to do the same in Anambra? The idea that Anambra is a fiefdom where no civil rules apply and therefore nobody is obliged to pay their taxes must be dropped. Gov. PROUDIGBO:Nzeogwu's coup followed by the clueless Ironsi regime was truly the dearth blow to the Eastern economic miracle of the 1950s to 1960s. The most disheartening part is that both Nzeogwu and Ironsi were typical Igbomen that thought about saving "Nigeria" FIRST before their own region. In fact, both men were known to have preferred non-Igbos as their personal staff. I am so afraid that the same Igbo instinct to "Save Nigeria FIRST" is still very much alive. Today, I see shuttle buses and Keke thriving well. Folks must understand that payment of taxes to the state government is the ONLY way that we can move forward. Many people would gladly pay taxes to the state government in cities like Asaba or Lagos but TOTALLY REFUSE to pay taxes in Anambra. WHY?? Let us understand that we have a responsibility to pay taxes and then demand good governance. The Anambra International Airport Departure Lounge is UPSTAIRS, not downstairs. Currently, the cargo inspection room downstairs is used for departures as the shops are still being installed in the departure lounge upstairs.
