To ensure that Asaba Airport will not compete for Nnewi ( Anambra South) passengers after the completion of 2nd Niger Bridge, Anambra State Government should build a clover-leaf FLYOVER at the Airport Road junction on Onitsha/Awka Expressway

The problem with the mentality of a typical Nigerian above of killing or be killed is due to many years of living under Fulani engineered feudal system. A system that does not believe in coexistence. It's either you die and I live, or I die and you'll live. It never even crosses their mind that there is steady population growth in Asaba, in Nnewi, In Ihiala, Awka, Aguleri etc! This new population will need quick access to air services in airports that are not chaotically jam-packed and inefficient like the current Lagos airport. Nigeria is projected to reach about 450 million by 2050, which is less than 29 years away! That will be one and half times greater than the present US population.

The US even at 300 million people, you cannot compare even their least busy international airport in Charlotte, North Carolina, to Lagos or Abuja airports. This airport is still busier than Lagos or Abuja!
Not to mention that it has 3 active runways. Between West Palm Beach - Fort Lauderdale -Miami, there are more than 5 international airports and each of these has more than 3 runways to cope. I have said all these so that you guys can understand that the tiny international airports we have in Nigeria are in fact insufficient to support economic growth in a country of more than 200 million people. Talk more when our population hits 450 million people.

Now apart from huge airports like New York's JFK, Los Angeles, Miami, Boston international airports, a typical American international hub has between 4 -8 active runways. Nigeria can never build such types of airports. Nor do we have the landmass or technology to run them.

In our clime, the best approach is to build one or two-runway international airports and manage them by the flights that go to each. One day, the fake Nigerian federal structure used to stifle economic development in Nigeria will fall apart and people will develop their own region based on need.
You simply don't have the land for that type of massive airport facility seen abroad. So we have to build small manageable international airports at Asaba, Umueri, Enugu, etc, and manage the flights that go to each location. Of course, some will be busier than others depending on how large they are able to take many flights and planes at the same time.

Besides, the way our people see land, if you say the total landmass of Anambra state should be used for just one airport with 5 runways, everybody will scream. Even one runway was difficult to find enough land to make sure it was comfortably up to 3.7 KM runway and 1KM RESA at both ends!

That is why there will eventually be another international airport in Orlu in the future and another one at Elele or Isiokpo. That is the only way we can eventually meet the aviation needs of an economy serving even 80 million people living in a tight high-density area where land is a very scarce resource. A model of having multiple medium international airports is the only way it can be done to meet the aviation needs of our people. Those huge aviation hubs we see abroad like in the pictures below, require such vast amounts of land and very high technology to operate that we simply lack both.

My adoration of this Anambra airport isn't because it's the first state airport. But its the first project i have seen in Nigeria so far done at the highest quality and speed without indebting the state or making it such low quality because they didn't borrow.

Truly i was pleasantly surprised that Anambra state built an airport bigger than Asaba airport that took more than 10 years and more than 50 billion naira

This request speaks volumes that everyone knows this country is ruled by terrible Fulani bigots.

Under normal circumstances, this would not even be necessary as it would make sense to simply invest the money in Delta state either via FG or the state government. But we live in Fulani times where they will shamelessly invest the money in Katsina or even in Niger Republic instead of giving the loot back to the people it was looted from.

it is like Britain investing Nigeria's looted money in Gibraltar rather than in projects inside Nigeria if it claims not to trust the government.

Craneburg are the ones constructing the car park and Airport internal roads

On the April 30th after the test flight, the governor named IDC as having done the taxiway and the car park.

Also, it appears Kanubeen doing the main access dual carriageway were asked to extend their perimeter to also cover the entry and exit roads from the gatehouse. That is why you will see that IDC asphalted the car park, but left the road to and from the gatehouse undone. If you watch the video of the governor's visit on April 24th, you will see where the governor was asking Kanubeen representative to tar the entry and exit roads from the gatehouse by Tuesday (April 27th) prior to the April 30th test flight. Unfortunately, they didn't meet the target.

I think the internal roads handled by Craneburg are only the ones from the fire station to the runway, and from the Control Tower to the terminal building. It looks like they have completed those roads and the roads are of excellent quality with the drainage gutters on both sides.

This is great!

I pray they also finish the Tailoring cluster they are building beside the shoemakers. In many ways, Obiano has transformed Anambra. We see only the big things like building the longest bridges in the SE, roads to new areas, the airport, flyovers and international conference center, etc.

But the real Obiano genius in the transformation of Anambra economy are little things like this shoemakers and tailoring hub, new Agu Awka International market, agricultural transformation agenda, small business support loans etc.

Does anyone know if they have marked the parking lot and the internal roads within the airport? I was informed by an Awka vlogger that they have completed the tarring of the entry and exit roads from the gatehouse to the terminal building. But had not marked the road or the car park as of 2 days ago.

My only concern sometimes with IDC is that they often have the same mindset as Nigerians. If they gain a paltry N10 kobo for leaving a piece of the job undone, they think 10 kobo is enough to justify a bad reputation on their corporate name. This is why i "hope" so much in my submissions as someone observed.

Since sometimes, finishing a job to a conclusive end is often a feat for our people. If a car park can contain 750 cars when well marked, it will contain only 200 cars if you leave it unmarked. As people will park in a crazy way. Thus the purpose of investing in a big car park to contain 750 cars for everyone to have adequate parking space is defeated. Simply due to lack of proper marking of each parking space! Hopefully, they try to replicate the car park in the 3d design including planting esthetic trees & flowers in the open spaces to beautify the car park environment. The same goes for the internal roads within the airport if they are merely built and not properly marked and beautified as done in sane societies.

Hopefully, the disabled ramp also looks like this. With round pillars encapsulating the exposed steel pillars.

I also love that they intend to decorate with native artwork and paint the interior white to maximize illumination and create a calm and clean ambiance as observed in airports abroad.

If they can make the interior of the terminal building look like this, it would undoubtedly be the most beautiful and most modern airport terminal in Nigeria.

One notable thing I would wish they do is to reinforce the exposed steel pillars with concrete so that they are round in shape as in the video. If the steel pillars are made to appear as round pillars and tiled, it will greatly add to the beauty of the terminal building.

Reinforcing the steel pillars by pouring concrete around them to turn them into round concrete pillars will also help in the protection of the steel pillars from corrosion and rust which could weaken it in time. In our environment with poor maintenance culture, unless the steel pillars are routinely painted and maintained, they could be exposed to corrosion over time. Moreover, ultimately round tiled pillars would be more esthetically appealing than exposing the raw I- shaped steel pillars supporting the superstructure.

Inside the terminal building, work is progressing rapidly with the walls and floors being tiled.

One can only imagine what the finished product would look like!

It looks like they have adopted the same attitude of accepting only a perfect finish as they did for the tower. I hope they also incorporate the use of brown or red bricks to beautify some of the walls. Especially along walkways, disabled ramps, or corridors.

One hopes that landscaping of the entire airport with grass, flowers,& trees including the car parks and the main access dual carriageway is pursued with the same vigor as physical structures completion.

Landscaping is a very important part of project finishing that is often ignored in Nigeria. Thus making Nigerian projects look like uncompleted structures because of the absence of proper landscaping. Hopefully in this project, enjoys generous landscaping to totally transform the ambiance of the environment.

Mad people everywhere! Why not post the video of the train station in London and ask that Anambra should replicate it? When the Nigerian flagship international airport terminals in the capital (Abuja & Lagos) are worse than train stations in countries ranked amongst the poorest nations on earth? Ndi ala!

With all its oil money, not being under any international sanctions whatsoever, oil-rich Nigeria's flagship international airport terminals at Abuja international airport or Lagos international airport cannot even reach the standard, majestic size, and quality of the train stations in supposedly poor North Korea!

Yet, you aren't ashamed of being a Nigerian! It is a marginalized state government that managed to build a standard international airport for its people that is your nightmare.

Seriously mad people everywhere.

IGBOSON1:
Someone was suggesting the state should concentrate on getting approval for international cargo operations and leave international passenger operations to AIIA, Enugu!

The ignorance that all international flights originate from ONE airport abroad and must end in ONE airport in Nigeria is part of our biggest damaged mindset of being in Nigeria for too long. All over the world, one airport can specialize in receiving international flights from Asia and another specializes in flights from Europe, etc. There is no reason why Ethiopian and Turkish air that indicated interest to fly to Enugu should not continue to use the AIIA. While the new Anambra Intl. airport concentrates on getting direct flights from China and the far-east where most Nigerian traders visit. Truth be told, AIIA, Enugu cannot handle more than 6 international airlines going there daily. The infrastructure simply does not exist for enough baggage claim carrousel, airport security, or even chairs for intending travelers!

What we ask for each time we say London Heathrow airport handles 80 million passengers why can't Lagos handle the same? Yet we don't invest in the level of infrastructure to enable us to handle that population of passengers as Heathrow, or Atlanta, or Bangkok. It's like a village hut owner asking why his hut cannot contain 500 people to sleep in comfort while Nicon Hilton Abuja can contain 1,000 people to sleep in comfort. The answer is INVESTMENT IN INFRASTRUCTURE TO HANDLE IT! None of our airports in Nigeria today was built to properly handle 2 million passengers. So any airport handling more than that without a massive expansion of infrastructure is doing so chaotically and people will hate to use such overcrowded hellish facilities.

The sad thing about Nigerians is that they want all planes to land in one airport because it's located in their village, yet they won't spend the money to build such facilities to handle that massive number. Look at Lagos airport, it is congested and chaotic. It does not even have chairs for passengers to sit in! You will have to pretend you want to eat Mr. Biggs just to sit in their chairs and wait for your flight! Imagine if all flights to Abuja, Kano, PH are also forced to use only Lagos airport with its very poor infrastructure.

Countries where more than 6 international airlines use an airport ensure that such airports are huge! It must have many terminal and an adequate number of chairs for the number of passengers expected. In fact, many such airports abroad require trains to move from one terminal to another because the airport is vast to ensure an easy and efficient flow of passengers, landings, takeoffs, and where planes can park. Nigeria cannot afford to build such super airports, yet we always want our tiny terminals and tiny aprons to hold 100 planes at once! Not to mention the number of people who will need to be searched and processed before they get to the secure parts of the airport. It is often a logistical nightmare that countries with the poor organizational ability and inadequate infrastructure are unable to cope with.

I have said this before and will repeat it again because our people don't understand this fine point. We build airports so that BOTH Nigerians and foreigners can come and use the facility without crying about the hellish ordeal of going through our airports. The level of ease using our airports should be the same level of ease using Johannesburg, Durban, Cape Town or Cairo, or Nairobi airports! Even Ghana has upgraded the Kotoka Intl airport because your airport isn't just for your citizens. It should also meet basic international standards and AVOID OVERCROWDING due to too few facilities INCLUDING QUEUING TO USE TOILETS!

I think the space on the right side of the current terminal building will be for extension or building of terminal 2 to incorporate the freight/cargo landing facilities. Cargo holding/storage buildings can then be built in one location behind the control tower. So that clearing of goods area does not disrupt the smooth functioning of the airport.

Also, as the airport begins to grow, it will be beneficial to extend a parallel taxiway to both ends of the runway. So that planes can quickly land and clear the runway into the taxiway for other planes to land and take off.

At the point where the dual carriage airport road starts from the Enugu - Onitsha expressway, I wish we could put a solid airport sign built with blocks on bricks background, as we find abroad. Instead of the usual ugly corrugated iron sheet, we use as signboards in Nigeria. Which after a few months rust and become an eyesore.

These signs are also artwork that helps to beautify a city and a state by creating landmark junctions. Let this airport truly introduce new and better ways of doing things to the highest quality instead of our local ways of doing everything to be the lowest quality in the world.

Biafra To Hoist Flag In Bakassi Peninsula, Battle Nigeria, Cameroon To Retake Land–Group

BNL said it does not recognise the ceding of Bakassi Peninsula to Cameroon by Nigerian Government, adding that this is why its operational headquarters is in the region.

BY SAHARAREPORTERS, NEW YORKMAY 03, 2021

Agroup, the Biafra Nations League, has said it is battle ready to face both Cameroonian and Nigerian forces should they be attacked in the cause of hoisting the Biafran flags in the Bakassi Peninsula.

BNL said it does not recognise the ceding of Bakassi Peninsula to Cameroon by Nigerian Government, adding that this is why its operational headquarters is in the region.

In a statement jointly signed by the Deputy National leader of BNL, Ebuta Akor Takon and Chief Head of Operations of BNL, Henry Edet, the group said its resolution in 2016, otherwise known as ‘Ekukunela Declarations’ made in the town of Ekukunela in Ikom, Cross River State, fails to recognise what it described as the Anglo-German Treaty which Cameroon relied upon at the International Court of Justice to claim the Peninsula.

The group said the treaty was made by colonial masters and not with the natives, adding that it has decided to “destabilise the peace in the Gulf of Guinea unless Biafra is allowed to separate from Nigeria and Cameroon.”

“Those clamouring for Igbo Presidency in the South-East as the reason behind the agitation for Biafra should desist from doing so.

“The interest of other Biafrans, especially the Bakassi people cannot be solved by an Igbo man becoming President.

“They should stop talking about Igbo Presidency, that’s not what we are fighting for. Biafra does not belong to the Igbo where they will tell us that they want to be President, it’s wrong.

“God has made it in a way that the Igbo will always be in the forefront of the struggle as the majority tribe, but it will be disappointing if they accept the Presidency.

“We are not just fighting for Igbo, but for all Biafrans including the Bakassi people under Cameroon bondage."

Apart from completing the remaining works at the Anambra International Passenger / Cargo airport, massive landscaping with trees, grass, and flowers is what must be followed up now. Hopefully, they have a landscaping team (Contractor) that does the landscaping work as a contract to ensure that it is properly done. This is also the best time for landscaping as we slowly enter the rainy season.

However, one final appeal I have seen among many Anambra indigenes and diasporans is for the MOU to develop the Anambra airport city (aerotropolis) to be signed now before Obiano leaves office. Whether we like it or not, the airport city will develop now that the airport has become a reality. The question now is whether it will be a re-creation of another Ochanja type development with unorganized, filthy markets and truck parks everywhere, or if we will manage to create something decent as a true airport city that will become a reference of development for the entire southeast. The difference between these two types of development is early intervention by the government to properly guide how the desired airport city should develop.

Most of us like how the development of Abuja was regulated to produce a decent, well-planned city. Abuja is better than Lagos because it was planned and the development regulated according to the master plan. I have come to trust Willie Obiano as a man committed to the quality and development of a place based on the master plan, not the chaotic market trader development we have in Nigeria. This is actually a rare attribute among many Africans especially Southeast governors!

My fear is that a new Anambra governor might have their typical funny and weird fixation of either building a mobile phone assembly plant as their only development, while totally neglecting government core functions of ensuring core developmental areas as the Anambra airport city has properly regulated development. That is why we are pleading to Obiano to sign the MOU for the development of Anambra International Airport City before leaving office. That is the only way to ensure that development within the airport city eventually follows the plan to meet our collective aspiration for a truly modern aerotropolis in Anambra state.

A well-planned and carefully designed residential and commercial development district similar to the video below will be desirable for the Anambra International Airport city (Aerotropolis). it will also help grow tourism and attraction of high-end quality investment into the state for such a district to exist close to the international airport.

To God be the glory, the test run was an astounding success!

I don't think that is the cargo shed. I'm not sure Willie Obiano builds shoddy things. Even the generator house, emergency clinic and Fire Service buildings are solidly well-designed buildings.

They should check the numbers written on the ends of the runway. It appears the technicians wrote 06 on the end that should be 24, and then wrote 24 on the end that should be 06.

The 24 end of the runway is located north of 06 end (i.e; closer to the Crainburg work yard). Meaning, that landing on 24 end, the terminal building should be on the left side.

I'm sure they would have figured it out already during the test landing that they switched the numbers written on the runway ends, and corrected the error.

The problem with Fulanis is that they HATE to avoid problems before it starts. Then they think they can put the burden of solving of the problem on others who warned them not to create the problem in the first place.

It was here that a lot of people pleaded with Fulani leaders to recall the herdsmen and allow the southeast to set up their vigilante ~ Fulani refused!

It was here that a lot of people begged Fulanis that the army should not be used against ESN which is a vigilante like others in the country, as it would exacerbate the problem which the army itself cannot control and eventually it will engulf the entire Nigeria ~ Fulani refused.

Again, let me tell Fulanis that you should continue to use the army, airforce, DSS, Police and Navy to do what you like, instead of simply solving this problem through dialogue and restructuring. In the end, i will be here to laugh at you when your army, DSS, airforce, Police and Navy fail and cause the chasing of Fulanis away from Nigeria after so much unnecessary bloodshed.

Bros, you got it right! This airport is world-class by every standard! Thank God Obiano took the pains to build it to a world-class level rather than cut corners as we usually observe here in Nigeria and especially in the southeast.

I'm glad the night owl has not committed suicide yet. I prefer he stays and is tormented by Rev. Fr. Mbaka's exorcism prayers against those demons speaking through him. grin grin Now that the whole place has been blessed, I seriously worry about his survival after Friday. grin grin grin

Hopefully, after a successful Friday, the attention will switch to internal completion and decoration of the terminal building, equipping the tower, and runway with cat 2 lights and other projects such as water supply system, gatehouse, Fire House, baggage carousel, Flat-screen TV screens on the wall to show flight information and some showing entertainment in departure areas of the airport.

Very nice! Thanks for updating the thread with the BBC pictures Bro!

The last video or the last picture above must have been on Sunday because even the internal road had been primed and ready for asphalting. The entire car park has been asphalted. Which was not there when Fr Mbaka and the Bishop were there on Saturday.
