With ielts you have a better chance!!!. TUM is a very competitive school and each document you submit increase your total points before qualifying for an interview. I'ld advise you take ielts exam, doesn't take much to do but your choice. Season greetings everyone from Hamburg Jossyeno: Hi everyone, i need your help pls do I need IELTS to study power engineering in TUM, I am a graduate of electrical and electronic engineering with a 4.9/7.0 c.g.p.a and no IELTS. you just dey mention my name sha, and who are the some still on women matter . anyways you have done justice...the German dream is worth it so far so don't let any person discourage you by either scaring you with racism remarks..they should tell you a country in the world you won't find segregation even Nigeria is among!!!!.. school here is no dulling oh, so be prepared to work if you decide to as nobody send you for here then house rents here in Hamburg are over the bar compared to surrounding cities, but all depends on your luck..i know a girl paying 510euro monthly and still has to go outside for laundry and i know another person paying 245euro monthly with laundromat inclusive..best is you apply for hostel immediately even before you get admission. Latest development by Hamburg's studentenwerk states that all international students from next year winter will be given accommodation!!!!. I withdraw my fingers from typing another line here .. Armaniii: Hello my people. Been ages since i last saw myself online here. This Forum used to be home. I have decided to take out some time to say a few things about my experience thus far.
First is that my expectations were not cut short. They have been duly matched in terms of Education and Living.
Over here the professors believe not just in knowing but in doing. You will be exposed to lots of practical sessions. I remember during my first year in school back in Nigeria, the lecturer who taught us C Language back then would walk up and down the class dictating the programs and then the equivalent output. We never for one day saw what the compiler looked like. The reverse is the case here as the professors are ready to help you succeed. When you come here, you have to 'Unlearn' to learn if you really want to go far.
Living here has been seamless. Life is easy in Germany in the sense that you have virtually all you need to make it here. If internet and constant light are your problem, you have it running 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. You will find free wifi in some bus stations.
Student jobs are in Hamburg but this brings me to the best advice i will give anyone who wants to listen. I and Chinok have been lucky to find a very cool job we do only on Saturdays for a few hours but if you will listen, try by all means to learn the language. I have missed out on a handful of Jobs since i came here all because i have no good knowledge of German but na me n them next year. Another thing you will learn when you get here is that there is dignity in labour. No matter what you do to make a living, You are well respected.
I haven't looked the way of women but i know people who did and got in no time and some who are still on it. So i cant really talk much on that.
My city is very nice and welcoming as 60-70% or more of the people here speak English (but would refuse to speak most times). I had this experience when i was processing my resident permit. I spoke to the man in English but he responded in German. I told him that i dont speak German and he responded in a very clear and concise English saying 'I am sorry i cannot help you. Kindly go and get a translator'. I was shocked. Sounded like a programmed machine. Once again, try and learn the language.
Talking about resident permit, do well to print out your account statement before making withdrawals as you will be required to show you have living expenses for one year before your visa can be extended and Please try and extend the visa once you come in. I came here with 6 months visa but i had to go for extension because by the time it expires, i would have gone half way with the money in my blocked account. So after your Anmeldung, Resident permit should be the next thing on your mind. Just show them the statement of account you printed even though you must have made a few withdrawals because you have to pay accommodation and caution fees.
There are a lot of blacks in Hamburg. As a matter of fact, whenever i pass by HAUPTBAHNHOF i usually look out for Yellow buses(danfo) just to be sure i am not in Surulere. Occasionally when we pass ourselves, some will nod at me and i will reply with a nod of my own....and then we walk away wondering where the other party is from.
I have made some nigerian friends. Friends who came here about the same time with me.... Chinok(from home though), John, Surveyor, Othniel n so on and a lot of other senior colleagues. They were instrumental in helping me settle down.
You will most definitely not hear from me very often because of workload from school but when i can, i will definitely breeze in to intimate you guys on proceedings.
I remain ARMANIII of HAMBURG. I greet you all. |

This thread is really moving , and seeing Lotta new faces..soon i'ld compose my own taste of experience in Germany so far. I have spent a month and some days in Hamburg and it has been wonderful for me..the struggle and stressful process was worth it!! but please keep in mind that if you are coming here for strictly academics purposes especially hochschules!!..be prepared for WORK!!! ..3 prerequisite tests already and e no dey smile...but nevertheless there is still gonna be spare time for student jobs. I will drop my experiences soon when it builds to a level but i will drop this advice; if you can learn the language to a level in naija...please do before coming..my city is a big city and about 70% I have met so far or more speaks English but nevertheless the language barrier comes up at the most important of times . Salutes to honorableseyi, Dolpaz, uncle Judas, and everybody here that contributed to my success in this Germany process..I will still keep thanking you all and this thread for changing the course of my life at April this year and for the knowledge impacted in me so far , God bless y'll and success to all future applicants!!! It's not easy but with God nothing is impossible. Luke 1:37..if you read my first post on this thread via this link, then you will know the true work of God ...I will be back.. Lol, na true oh..accommodation here is crazy especially if you are heading to a big city..even the Germans that have been here since the beginning of life find it hard getting accommodation and always on WG gesucht in class searching for places lol..biko come with euros oh..no matter what..na u dey spend am..forget about your dB account for a week or two..but if you can trek round and stay hungry till it is unblocked, then don't buy any euros .. But you just can't escape it even if you have someone to stay with..if not for euros wey I carry go..na under bridge tins because nobody send you for here.... dennisMOD: LMFAO... @sleeping under bridge. Lol,you can't open your blocked account immediately you land..it will still take 1-2weeks sef to get your details ..even if you have your house contract before arrival..you need a house contract to open it albeit someone I knew walked into dB and said he wanted to withdraw money with his passport alone and account number..after withdrawing 300€..it was then blocked for real sd39: Important question for those who have left, are there DB branches in or around the airports for one to quickly open their blocked accounts as they land? |

Lol,welcome to the club of ecobank..I advise you make sure you have at least 70-80k remaining in the account..and your money is still with them until they debit the swift fee..ask for a telex copy too via email. Dey will forward it to standard chartered frankfurt which will then send it to dB for you..after you have been debited for offshore charges wt AL..you get dB confirmation 3days after(all things being well). I was debited around 50-60k for bank charges albeit I used current..so maybe that's why..but add more asap.. dennisMOD: I don't know if ECOBANK has began to do blue market transaction but anyway, I just got debited of N3,342,228.16 for €8040.00 today. I applied for FORM-A at the head office on Friday, last week and I was debited this morning. The transaction alert in my e-mail shows this calculation below: €8040 = $9149.52. Cross Rate for that day was EUR8040@365.29/USD1.138/EUR. Hence the N365.29 rate I filled in the FORM-A which I thought was EUR/NAIRA rate was apparently USD/NAIRA because N365.29 x $9149.52 = N3,342,228.16. By my calculation, it's about N415/EUR sha. Infact, na N8000 remain for my account sef and dem never komot bank charges join body. I don't even know how much that would be but I heard I will be called to top-up. Pls guys, what is the bank charges like? I want to quickly top-up the account so they don't revert the FX transaction because of bank charges? That's that. So for those who are delayed by FORM-A, if you have the money, I recommend ECOBANK Head Office since they debited so fast. Another thing bothering me is this... Does debiting my account this fast means they will fund my DB account and let me have DB confirmation on time? I hope they didn't just debit my account for nothing? Who used Ecobank to fund DB account recently? Abeg enlighten me... I will be glad. When I receive DB confirmation, I will let u guys know. I hope it goes well. |
