CelebritiesRe: Controversial Booklet Scans And Pics Inside Rihanna's New Album Rated R by chiogo(f): 5:55am On Nov 24, 2009
Erm, Rihanna CAN sing.
I don't get this whole "you don't write your own songs so you can't sing" talk. How many artistes really write their own songs? Most have them written for them except for rappers, I guess.

@topic, is that the album cover? That's a force undecided

PoliticsRe: Nigga by chiogo(f): 11:36pm On Nov 23, 2009
Pidgin English is synonymous to Ebonics. Nothing wrong with speaking either one when in the company of family/friends. We all know they're still not accepted in formal settings.

The n-word on the other hand, is not a language. It's a racist word modified. A word attached to a stigma. There's no use arguing it. It's not the same as pidgin English. It's the origin that bothers me.

grafikdon:
"Nigga" is a derogatory word and no amount of argument can change that. It is more painful to see some Nigerian JJC spew that abominable word with reckless abandon. I nearly smacked okro seeds out of the eyes of a 19 yr old JJC (In Jew York for less than a week). It was bad enough he was spewing that trash trying to ''rap'' in a room filled with hardcore Nigerians, but to extend his hand and address me as his "nigga" was the last straw.

I wasn't even sure which was more painful; forcing the "American accent" on his thick bush village accent or saying "nigga" like it was the new "good morning".

"Nigaa this, nigga that,  know warram seyin". *in thick nerve shattering bush village accent*
grin grin grin grin grin grin Exactly!!!

What these nuccas talking about in here?  grin

[s]The word nucca denotes familiarity, but should only be used in the right setting with nuccas you grew up with, or nuccas who know you very well, especially HipHop-loving nuccas.

Beaf:
Apologies. wink
I didn't mean to slam hip hop lovers. I was just trying to capture a sort of "Tupac Shakur" image.
I love Tupac!!  tongue tongue tongue Even though I might not always agree with his messages.

I just realized that I didn't really answer the original question. I can't really say if it's inferiority complex, mostly ignorance. Trying stupidly to assimilate on the part of Africans/Nigerians who use the word.  You don't pronounce differently a word that's used to stigmatize your people and expect the meaning to change. It's a bad word, point-blank. period.
RomanceRe: See Me See Problem Oh! by chiogo(f): 12:37am On Nov 23, 2009
Only Nigerians will take a huge amount of money from someone and think it's a "dash". She never told you she was lending indeed.
LOL I can't shout.
PoliticsRe: Nigga by chiogo(f): 12:28am On Nov 23, 2009
Ok, Beaf . . .this has nothing to do with being a hip hop listener.

Just like teen violence is blamed on hip hop, the use of the n-word alike. Yes, these rappers fuel the issue with their messages but these teens- are they stupid or what not to be able to discern right from wrong? If you choose to listen to rappers and not your parents then you're on your own. Hip hop doesn't tell you to do ANYTHING.

Mandingo, didn't know you're still strolling these boards with your lame lines. If you aren't obsessed with Nigeria/Nigerians then "Obsession" must have a new meaning. Blah!

and as for white folks calling us blacks nigger?,of course they do,as soon as we leave the room[/quote]Seinfield didn't wait for y'all to leave the room.
PoliticsRe: Nigga by chiogo(f): 10:38pm On Nov 22, 2009
^^ Same 'ol excuse they always come up with.

It's not a good thing, sorry. Black people who use the word can claim there's a difference between "nigga" and "ni**er". Believe it or not, it's the same shit.

Why do they get mad when white people use the supposedly "well-meaning" word? Abeg!! If you use it, best expect others to use it while addressing you regardless of their race.

@topic, it's not my word but I can assure you that I've used it in a sarcastic way anyway. If you call yourself a nigga, that's fine by me because I WILL call you one.

I know what you mean when you say "party-like jollof rice", I don't think there are specific spices used to give it that taste. My best conclusion is that it tastes that way because it's cooked in large quantity and spacious cooking utensil.
CelebritiesRe: Mona Lisa Wins Award For Best Actress At Afro Hollywood Awards by chiogo(f): 8:51pm On Nov 22, 2009
What's with the hating? Of course she's certainly not the best Nollywood has to offer but I'm sure the award isn't for the greatest of all time, it's probably a "best actress of the year" thing. So what? the same people can't win every year. Allow her the little fame she's getting.

Good Girl:
@ topic,

Am happy for her, but in my opinion, there are better actors and actresses in Nollywood.
I don't know which of Omo-T's movies you've been watching, but on several occasions, I have watched Omotola play the different roles of a spoilt rich girl, a poor village girl, a prostitute, a battered wife, a lousy wife, a humble housewife, a 'good' sister (Blood Sister), a 'bad' sister (All My Life), an insecure girlfriend, an oppressed step-child, an arrogant business-woman, a clingy, desperate woman, a snobbish woman, a cold-hearted girlfriend, a warm and kind-hearted partner, a loud-mouthed woman, a soft-spoken woman, the girl-next-door, the snobbish high-and-mighty girl . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . do I need to go on?

She doesn't appear to me like she plays the same roles as you say. Genny too can take up any role.
Haha, I remember this movie where she comes from a poor home but goes to the city for college or something and acts like her parents are loaded. She was hilarious!!! Living a fake life. She would tell her friends from the city that she's going abroad when she wants to go visit her mom in the village. My fave Omotola movie, can't remember the title though, it's at the tip of my tongue.

PoliticsRe: Will A Young Man Ever Be The President Of Nigeria? by chiogo(f): 9:18pm On Nov 21, 2009
@poster, what exactly do you mean by "young"?, last time I checked there's a minimum age for someone running for presidency. I believe it's 35 in the U.S.

Abeg, age is NOT just a number, it might not always determine wisdom but it sure is an important factor. I don't think Nigeria's problems lies with the ages of the previous presidents and the current one. It's just the mind-set they had before running for presidency. A young president can still be corrupt depending on what he hopes to achieve by being in that position.
