I have said it several times. Winning Boko Haram is the simplest thing to do. The issues with weapons is just an excuse. We need drones and light attack planes .even an air tractor can be converted and use. There are cheaper drones that can be gotten from turkey. It's not compulsory we buy from Europe or america.there are other good manufacturers out there. The issue is unseriousness we apply to everything. Weapons can be bought in the black market. It's not an excuse. Man of the bandits in other parts only have AK-47 , So you need a tank to face a man with AK 47.what stopping us from building our own drones. New airfield is not part of our contract with the Americans, I made the same mistake because I thought they are building a new airfield for us, but what the are constructing is airfield hot cargo pad, a patch on the airfield where they store weapons, arm and disarm planes, not the real airfield.

Obviously, we are trying to upgrade our airfield because of increased activities around the base apart from the New Tucano, the base is where we train our combat pilots, it's where we send our jets to for maintenance, it's the new home for our C-130 Hercules heavy transporter.

The N9 billion is legit and needs to be appropriated ASAP, I'm glad that the committee is including it in the next budget.

The issue is was never about upgrading the existing runway. The existing runway will suffice for the A29s .There was no statement regarding the need to build new runway for the C130s. The issue raised was tied to the tucanos. The US Government would have made there assessment before deciding to build the hot pad on the existing runway. They know it will suffice.The issue is either the senator was wrong or mixing up issues. Am not against building new runways as long as there is a need for it. The issue is claiming that the existing runway can not support the tucanos so they need to build a new one or will lose our planes. That is a lie. All that is being provided by the US government was done after a proper assessment of our needs and what is on ground. This is over Two years in planning .if truly a new runway was needed ,it would have been highlighted long ago. This is the usual after thought to bring the Nigerian way into things. The version of alpha jet we have are the close support version. The take off and landing values are 100% correct. Please check your facts before commenting. The Alpha jets was a joint venture between the french and germans. The french had their own version .We bought the German version with the specs I gave. The Senator was specific on what the 9bn was needed for,which was for building a runway. It's called padding in budgetary terms and it's fraudulent.
