Maldini was a very exquisite player on the ball but could deploy the dark arts (remember his wrestling move on Yekini in USA 1994) when occasion demanded. Baresi is my best all time defender. Baba knew how to position himself to snuff out danger.

He was reasonably fast but not blistering like Ahmed Musa or Tijani Babangida. You have said it all his football IQ and crossing were elite.

Mujtahida:
Did Finidi really have speed? I don't think so but he was extremely intelligent. It was said that if Finidi crosses the ball one of these two things will happen: the GK either catches the ball or the attacker scores. He was that good

For real!

Dude already had us forgetting about Enyeama. I'm sure it was Ikeme's impressive performances in goal that gave Oliseh the liver to dump Vincent like that.

I just dey laugh seeing many people go bunkers over him. He might be quality but it is not from YouTube highlights that I will reach that conclusion. Let him be invited, we will know the moment he steps on the pitch.

Really audacious of the Lagos state government. If it can be finished by end of the year as planned then I don't think there should be governorship elections next year. They should just present Sanwo-Olu as consensus candidate grin

Honestly the number of projects that Lagos, a sub-national of Nigeria is embarking on should leave the Kenyans too embarrassed to speak. BRT that Lagos state government did almost 14 years ago is what rsvp and co are just celebrating in 2022 grin

Port almost finished, Refinery almost done, light rail progressing nicely, badagry express moving along nicely, fibre optic cables being laid across the state, All this and I haven't even mentioned the bridge in opebi they just started or the lekki road or the rice mill you just mentioned.

Despite all these capital intensive projects record levels of IGR are still being generated every year. Unlike my Kenyan brothers that have to go cap in hand every time to go and beg their Chinese Sugar daddies

68816419:
@RVP: what do you have to say about The largest rice mill in Africa which is getting ready to be opened in Lagos in a few weeks from now, to produce 2.4 million bags of 50kg rice annually. There are 16 silos with a combined capacity of 40,000 metric tonnes for storage.

Egbon you're right about Odegbami being a fantastic footballer infact I would put in the starting Xl of my all-time best SE players.

That said Odegbami was more like a forward who could operate on the wings because of his dribbling skills but Finidi was a proper winger. Blessed with great pace and excellent crosses non of these inshallah types we see from our wingers these days.

George also had real football brain, knew when to popup and score important goals for Nigeria.

Kog45:
Sir,Segun Odegbami remain Nigeria all time best winger....the same Burkina Faso was Finidi launching pad, came in for Austin Eguavoen and made three assists,if I can recollect Nigeria beat Burkinabes 7-1.....I can't really recollect when Green Eagles beat Upper Volta 7-1 in Odegbami era.

In Green eagles era only two team can make it to the world cup and this really affected our chances,1978 would have been our maiden appearance but own goal by Godwin Odiye denied us.The same team went ahead and won 1980 Afcon just to tell you how good was the team....the only difference between 1980 Green eagles and 1994 super eagles was US 94 appearance.

Pls go and watch Odegbami clips and you will realized that Odegbami in 90s would have benched Finidi and dwarf Yekini....quite agreed with you on Odegbami as winger in CF ability but fact remain Odegbami was a winger with ability to score goals and create chances but Finidi was a pure winger and nothing more.

My man Segun Odegbami was a class...I doff my hat for him when he quit the game due to then Oyo state governor Colonel Oladayo Popoola undue interference in running IICC shooting stars, disbanded the team for losing to Zamalek.

Unfortunately opta stats weren't available in Finidi's time but he was crazy effective with his crossing. When I was a kid I remember watching a bit of the 7-1 hammering that Nigeria dealt on Burkina Faso and a young Finidi dropped 4 assists (I think not 100% sure) in that game. USA 1994 he dropped 2 assists plus his well delivered corner led to the goal against Italy in the 2nd round. France 98 another 2 assists. No winger before or after Finidi has come near his performances for us in the national team.

12large1:
How many assist did finidi had for Nigeria? because his goal record of 6 in 62 no be am at all considering that people rank him as Nigeria all time best winger. Him or odegbami
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by chrisooblog: 10:16am On Jan 31, 2022
Finidi was good for 5-6 seasons. His move to Betis was a bit of a downgrade. He should have been playing his best years at clubs like Real Madrid who funnily enough were interested before he left Ajax.

Finidi is one of the few Nigerian players I would say played his peak for club and national team for many years.

12large1:
How many seasons did finidi stay consistent? 3 or 4 season and he was done. The man was an Ipswich flop despite signing at 30. It is what I mean by lack of consistency, professionalism, and discipline. A player like chukwueze is already playing like the shadow of himself 3 years ago

Border line criminal that this obvious talent was overlooked when the coaching crew knows we are short of quality goalkeepers at the moment.

Adeleye should ASAP be called for the March qualifiers but let's all hold of giving a definitive judgment of his quality until we see him live.

Youtube videos always show the best side of a player. Now now I can drop videos of Okoye, Akpeyi and Uzoho looking world class.

Definitely looks promising but the proof of the pudding is in the eating. Let's see Adebayo in action live first.

True their are two sides to a story so we wait and see. Neymar issued an almost instant rebuttal through a video showing what actually happened so let's see what Greenwood will do in the next couple of days.

TFLASHOGEE:
greenwood Case isn't with a minor and you must have believed naymer career was over when that lady brought out an evidence to show rape and sexual assault, what is potraid in the media isn't what will happen in the court when it time to get his sentence or the case is being haired wink there is always two side to a story never judge ones life or career without not hearing thier own side that why the court is different from social media wink
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by chrisooblog: 2:05pm On Jan 30, 2022
My guy all she has said is the plain and bitter truth. It will be very difficult for Greenwood to come back from this and enjoy a fulfilled career.

The Anthony Joshua example you mentioned their are some sports you can get away with some misdemeanors. Fury confirmed drug addict, Tyson ex-con jailed for rape but they still had productivite boxing besides Joshua's case was when he was still quite young plus it was igbo I think not hard drugs.

A former Sunderland player of recent finished serving his sentence for inappropriate sex with a minor but his bad reputation means he has not been able to resume playing football. Mason will need serious prayer to get out of this unscathed. I'm not God almighty who determines man's destiny but this one go tough.

TFLASHOGEE:
you can't just make a conclusion about his career being gone on till a court convict him and you never can tell what conviction and sentencing he will get wink Anthony Joshua got a community service for something tagged to be a 15 year's in prison sentence due to involvement in drug's and that never affected his career so wait till greenwood get his sentence cool

Did Bayern and PSG score 4 goals in the final 10 minuteshuh U have no idea wat we were talking about just rest
Yes Bayern did pump in more goals in the last ten minutes because the play became stretched with Pique leaving holes at the back. So him going forward doesn't really change anything. Ramos would have been the best example even at that it's mostly set piece situations

To be fair it takes a while to build confidence as a national team GK. Even the great Enyeama struggled in the beginning. Vincent dropped the odd clangers here and there but his numerous saves made us overlook and forget.

Mujtahida:
We don't have GK. Simpliciter.
I feel for the young man though and I feel that it is in bad taste, to hurl insults at him and wish him death the way many people did on his Instagram page.

I don't understand how our GKs would be doing great at their clubs yet in the GWG they'd flounder. Look Akpeyi. In the PSA he's a good GK but in the GWG, he'd be shaking like a leaf.

Look at the other GKs like that of Sierra Leone, Comoros and Gabon who made saves after saves. They are low division GKs. Are we jinxed?
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by chrisooblog: 4:09pm On Jan 25, 2022
The away tie against Cape Verde sealed it for me where he conceded on his near post that he should ordinarily have covered.

He can still come good but we needed someone with tournament experience like Uzoho or even Akpeyi sef anyway no use gripping what has happened has happened

Mujtahida:
If that match had entered penalties (which was Tunisia's desire cos they deliberately snuffed out some of the counter attacking opportunities they had), it would have been less painful.

But my God, what kind of keeper is Maduka. As in straight direct ball (which I believe was the first time they had a shot on target) played by Tunisia ended inside our net. That means if the defense had not been solid through all the other 3 matches we would have been conceding goals?

Where I began to have profound doubt about Maduka is the match against Sierra Leone. Every goal bound ball Sierra Leone directed at him ended inside the net. No saves, nada!

It's a mystery to me how such a well built guy who is the first choice GK at his club, cannot evoke confidence when he's manning the sticks for us.

Bro Piqué going forward not going forward didn't barca still chop cricket scorelines like 8-2, 4-0, 7-0 from Bayern and PSG?

BascoVanVeli:
Even if Barca have 6 men on the Pique will bump forward. U will never see Pique staying back when the team is losing so stop with the cap.
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by chrisooblog: 3:39pm On Jan 25, 2022
As much as we all agree that Eguavoen could have done better the circumstances of the match especially in the second half will test the best of managers anywhere in the world.

How can you as a coach legislate for your goalkeeper conceding a silly goal early in the 2nd half effectively destroying your half time team talk. Yes before the goal we weren't playing well however it wasn't exactly panic stations yet.

Again the coach made a sound substitution removing KC who was on a yellow for an experienced Iwobi how is it the coaches fault that the ref decided to send Alex off harshly wouldn't that have further dented any tactical plan?

We can criticize the coach but let's be fair and take into perspective the peculiar circumstances that he faced.

Pep that is one of the best coaches in the world hardly performs magic when his teams are one goal down and playing with 10 men.

TheGoodJoe:
The game Pique played as a second striker towards the end, the team was not down to ten men.

That is the point.

At what point will Semi join the front? When we are in possession right? When he moves up front, you are going to be down to seven men in defense and midfield. When you launch the ball and lose it, it becomes a suicidal scene. Because you must have either Simon or another payer supporting.

So with the red card, no matter what time, you can not send two tall strikers.

All those mostly playing were pact players to cover the lack of a player. So even putting Semi in midfield would have been difficult.

I repeat, the game was well managed tactically given the situation. You can not send in two tall strikers when your team is a man down.
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by chrisooblog: 1:24pm On Jan 24, 2022
I agree before Maduka's mistake how many clear shots at goal did Tunisia have? Their is no guarantee Ajayi would have been miles better. Abi is it not the same Semi who's momentary slip allowed the GB forward almost through on goal?

That's why I don't like doing too much hindsight analysis

TheGoodJoe:

The defense did well. Our problem was us not taking our chances. So bringing Semi Ajayi would not have yielded much difference. Omeruo was good defensively. The long balls were just a plus to make things happen up front.
