Yeah one of the biggest 'mistakes' scored one of the crucial 2 goals against Congo for the 2015 AFCON Qualifier. Go figure.

TheGoodJoe:
Reconcile with a player that insists he will not play to your tactics.

That is what separates Keshi from loads of coaches. He will go and pick a name from China and he will surprise many.

Bringing Uche back to the team was even one of the biggest mistakes of Keshi.
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by chrisooblog: 10:46am On Nov 25, 2023
Egbon 4 out of the 5 names you mentioned had already been part of the team for years and we all know how Keshi influenced the invitation of Emenalo in place of Ugbade.

So egbon are you saying that because Westerhof did it that makes it right?

On Ike Uche issue I would have found a way to reconcile with the team's best striker before the WC. The fact that they were able to put aside their differences for the AFCON qualifiers shows it wasn't impossible.

Keshi was a patriot, a great player and coach for the SE but he wasn't a saint and we shouldn't stop people from also pointing his own flaws.

Kog45:
Check out US 94 team and tell me what were Keshi,Uche Okafor,Emeka Ezeugo,Thompson Oliha and Mike Emenalo doing in that team based on their clubs,in fact Ezeugo,Okafor and Emenalo were playing what I will call semi pro league…fine Keshi as a captain and his contribution to the team made Westerhoff to repay him…..Oliha too was struggling.

Yes on IKechucwu Uche…I will never take a player who was not ready to play to my instruction and went as far telling my employer that tactically am not ready and at the end my poor tactics won the cup…pls if you are in Keshi’s shoe what will you do?
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by chrisooblog: 9:51am On Nov 25, 2023
I won't speak evil of the dead but taking an inactive player like Gabriel Rueben, who even his own club coach was shocked to the WC is the height of irresponsibility.

Don't even get me started on taking Babatunde and "Flavour" to Brazil and excluding Sone Aluko (who was in form) and Ike Uche (our best striker in Europe then)

Nobody should bring any yenyenyen talk that Ike was indisciplined and not in the good books of Keshi. If they could resolve their differences later for a common AFCON qualifier why the hell not for a bloody WC? huh

123jamessmith:
Let's be sincere with ourself in this platform. Yes, kashi won the AFCON but how many of you here can beat your chest and say that kashi didnt take bribe to select players for the 2014 world cup.
I waited for that list to come out, that list came in the middle of night, players that didnt even play the qualifiers made the list.
Keshi was one of the most corrupt coach to ever coach Super Eagles. Almost 10 of the players that make that 2014 world cup list where not suppose to be there. They all paid their way to team. We can mention names if you want.

Oliseh as a full grown man took responsibility for his decision.

I seriously doubt that Oliseh who had seriously disagreements with the football authorities during his time as a player will now allow himself to be used when he's not a child.

Like I said before their is no clear link to show that Oliseh was a willing tool of anyone in the NFF to get rid of Enyeama.

What makes it harder to believe is that the same leadership went to meet Vincent the next day.

Whatever the case may be you firmly believe what you believe and usual even if 100 pieces of evidence are brought before you it's highly unlikely you will change your stance.

TheGoodJoe:
There was nothing to handle. The captain of the Super Eagles lost his mother and buried her that weekend to camp opening.

Absolutely nothing.

Like he was burying his mum. He needed comfort and was just a day late. Which should be allowed and excused.

I don't believe Oliseh had a personal issue with Enyeama.

The only thing was the NFF wanted Enyeama out. This is beyond speculation. We knew they wanted him out.
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by chrisooblog: 8:47pm On Nov 23, 2023
Again you're using speculation to assume Oliseh was doing NFF's bidding.

Or was Siasia doing NFF's bidding when he sent Enyeama home after an AFCON Qualifier against Madagascar in 2011?

Whether people in NFF wanted Vincent out or not the fact that Oliseh didn't handle this the situation well is the fact of the matter.

Like I said before two truths can co-exist.

TheGoodJoe:
You are mixing it up.

Enyeama buried his mother on the 4th of October and returned to camp the 9th. A day after camp opened. Not months.

It is obvious Oliseh used that one day slip to carry out the bidding of the NFF people that wanted Enyeama out.

Enyeama was a stumbling block to the guys in the glass house and his audacity to speak against their wrong action looks the problem.
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by chrisooblog: 6:45pm On Nov 23, 2023
Not quite bro. Goodjoe feels Oliseh was the tool NFF used to chase Enyeama out of the SE however my view is that Oliseh's poor man management skills was what led to Vincent's exit not a deliberate action by any NFF member even if it favoured what some of them wanted.

villagereporter:

Sirs both of you are retrospectively saying thesame thing.
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by chrisooblog: 2:19pm On Nov 23, 2023
Egbon Oliseh has many faults but being lily-livered isn't one of them.

Pesin wey fight sports minister when he was a player go come dey fear NFF topshots.

Enyeama was in the national team way before Keshi showed up so how was he Stephen's boy?

Oliseh's main problem is that he lacks diplomacy skills when situation demands it.

This doesn't invalidate whether he had issues with Keshi or not.

Kog45:
Oliseh is a lily livered personality but many thought he was courageous? No he wasn’t

He wanted to act like primary school Headmaster in eagles camp and only way out was to freeze some players out to achieve it.

He disliked Stephen Keshi passionately and had the support of Amaju Pinnick who also hate Keshi for no reason. The agenda was to send Keshi’s boys out of the team and Enyeama was the number one target.

In fact,Ahmed Musa was used as a bait to get support from the cabal but guessed what NFF administrators lackadaisical pushed Oliseh out.

Sad to hear wish him speedy recovery.

Opportunity for Orban, Akor or Sadiq to step up.

This one that they said the CAF squad list might be increased to 27 players they might all go.

Kog45:
Yes he is out.

Health is wealth…he should deal with his injury and come back stronger like last season.

He came to camp hiding the knock and aggravated it….two months out after the surgery.

Akor should take his place.
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by chrisooblog: 1:33pm On Nov 23, 2023
Oliseh had a problem with Enyeama the issue of playing in the North had already been settled.

Oliseh for whatever reason best known to him was questioning Enyeama's commitment even when he should have been wise to manage Vincent based on the fact that he just buried his mum a few months prior to the blowout with Sunday.

Two things can be true simultaneously. As much as some NFF board members wanted Enyeama out Oliseh was the main reason for his exit from the SE.

TheGoodJoe:
That is why I hammered on my view of the scenario. I doubt Oliseh was eager to kick Enyeama out of the squad. The issue had to do with Enyeama refusing to play in North. That is my view.

Oliseh defending Enyeama even stresses the point. Oliseh did not have a problem with Enyeama. The decision to drop Enyeama happened before Enyeama's arrival from his mum's burial.

I honestly believe the sack of Enyeama came from the glass house and Oliseh.
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by chrisooblog: 10:22am On Nov 23, 2023
I think you trying to give a dog a bad name to hang it by claiming Oliseh was following NFF orders to deal with Enyeama.

Remember it was even Oliseh that defended Vincent about that playing in the North issue.

Oliseh just lacked man management skills in handling the Enyeama matter. Same way he fell out with Emenike, Ekong and Mikel. If not that Mikel was mature about the whole matter he would have also exited the national team.

Plus don't forget the NFF leadership led by Pinnick visited Enyeama and even had dinner with him after that incident.

The issue between Oliseh and Enyeama was purely about ego and discipline.

TheGoodJoe:
It is the other way around. The NFF wanted Enyeama out because of his stance against some of their wrong decisions. For instance, Enyeama felt playing in the hot weather in the North was a disadvantage to our players who play in cool weather in Europe. The NFF had their ego bruised repeatedly by Enyeama who was outspoken and always protected the team.

Oliseh was following orders. It was not the NFF backing Oliseh's decision from my perspective.

For me give Finidi a short. Nobody is expecting success at the AFCON so let's give one of our own a free hit while we do our home work of choosing a suitable coach with the help of the sports ministry (this might seem controversial but the current and past NFF leadership haven't demonstrated excellent hiring skills based on the recent coaches they have hired)

Damioduso1:
Owngoal reporting just now that Jose Pasiero has agreed to take over Zamalek football club in Egypt after today match against Zimbabwe. Good development we search for a good coach now or look for a better local coach to lead the super eagles to the afcon

Saw the freekick Uzoho conceded. On the face of it the goal can beat a lot of GKs but in a high stakes match on like WC qualifiers where little margins count this is where a goalkeeper in form would have made the difference.

The current inadequacies of our 'attacking' team will make such GK problems stick out the more.
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by chrisooblog: 5:49pm On Nov 19, 2023
As if I knew didn't bother watching or checking match scores until full time.

First solution to our problem is finding out the root cause of why the senior national team is just not Jelling at the moment.

Sacking JP as welcome as that will be is just a case of putting a band aid on a festering wound.

Before hiring a new coach I believe a frank meeting between the players and NFF should hold as to the reason why we just not getting the right results.

This should then guide the NFF on who should be in charge of the team on a short and long term basis.

I'm still of the opinion that the presidency through the sports ministry should somehow get involved to salvage our qualification hopes. Proper consultation and interventions from time to time will be required.

This is panic stations but hope is not lost.

Why should South Africa play tomorrow?' - Peseiro slams Fifa over 2026 World Cup qualifiers scheduling

Published: November 17, 2023

Manager Jose Peseiro has criticized football's governing body, Fifa over the 2026 World Cup qualifiers scheduling, which would see the Super Eagles complete their November internationals a day after South Africa's opening game in Group C against Benin.

On paper, Bafana Bafana are Nigeria's biggest rivals of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers and Peseiro is of the opinion that the South Africans have been handed an advantage by Fifa's imbalanced fixtures list.

The Super Eagles had just one proper training session before taking to the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium turf to face Lesotho, bearing in mind that Tuesday's session was more or less a recovery workout as seventeen of the players named in the matchday squad arrived in Uyo on that day.

Peseiro acknowledged that these problems with logistics negatively impacted the performance of the Super Eagles players during their embarrassing 1-1 draw against Lesotho on Thursday.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, the Portuguese football tactician said: "We didn't prepare well, even the players didn't rest well because some players came on Monday, others on Tuesday.

"We could not train with intensity in that moment.Yesterday we trained but not with intensity because we must play today. For that I ask why the match was scheduled for Thursday.

"Next three days my team is going to play Zimbabwe. Why should South Africa play tomorrow, we played today. Why? I don't know.

"Our team is the best in the group, we drew but I think we will win the next match but our players must make sacrifices.

"They fought today. The ball didn't go in, bad luck for us. We are going to give a response against Zimbabwe even if we don't rest well."

West Brom central defender Semi Ajayi prevented Nigeria from suffering a devastating home defeat when he rose highest to head in the equalizer midway through the second half.

In this day and age where technology has made it easy to access learning and educational materials no Nigerian coach has an excuse not to improve their knowledge of the game.

Yes opportunity and a conducive environment helps but if you're determined and focused there's no reason why one shouldn't succeed.

Pitso that won a CAF Champions League doesn't have two heads.

All our coaches need to make self improvement and working a priority and not just sitting down somewhere waiting for NFF to give you a job in the name of you're an ex international.

komekn:
Knowledge is essential but knowledge without the experience of application becomes speculative.

There are some things that can be taught and some things that have to be experienced.

Most Nigerian coaches don't have the knowledge and certainly not the top level quality experience required to be a top level coach

Like you Amuneke is not my first choice at the moment to coach the SE that said he hasn't been tested to say for certain that if his appointment will work or not.

Ultimately getting a local coach is part of the path to Nigeria's football success but why the NFF and SE fans believe Nigerian coach and competence are two parallel lines is what I will never understand.

Mujtahida:
It's all conjecture until it is done. When Amunike comes in now and things go south, we will cry for him to be relieved from the job. That's my point.
I'm neither for or against Eguavoen, Amunike or Siasia. And an argument for or against can be made for every one of them.

I like Awoniyi he's an affable chap but what you have said about him is the plain naked truth.

He has been in the setup for a while now but hasn't really shown that he's a reliable outlet for goals in the absence of Osimhen.

His lack of PRESENCE for a big guy really worries me and if people like Akor or Orban come into the SE and start performing his chances in the national team will reduce.

I'm not totally going to write Taiwo off cos he's a determined and focused player but he has to realise that the window of opportunity is closing especially as Nigeria is currently blessed with an abundance of attacking options.

Mujtahida:
He's never impressed me as an attacker in the SE. Saw him during Afcon and he's lacking in PRESENCE.

Happened to Oruma. He never felt at home as a ten because Jay Jay had so made the position his own. Same thing appears to be happening to Awoniyi. Osimhen has stamped himself as the main man. Awoniyi feels like a counterfeit.

Don't mind him the yeye man. His strategy was probably just throw attacking players on the pitch and hope something happens without thinking of balance or team structure.

Equivalent of throwing pepper, rice, chicken and other ingredients expecting it to magically turn to jollof rice.

He's right egbon. He's referring to the return match against Angola in Kano where Enyeama fumbled a soft freekick into goal.

The game you're referring to was the first leg in Angola where Yobo's lackluster defending allowed the Angolan striker Akwa to score from a tight angle.

If Uzoho had been a consistent performer in the past people won't have raised too much dust because we all know players go through rough patches but even at that the national team is meant for your best legs sentiment shouldn't be involved. Like some SE analysts have said in the past national team is not a rehabilitation centre.

Kog45:
No sir,Joseph Yobo cost us 2006 WC against Angola….pls go and watch the video clip how the goal was scored by Paulo Figueiredo.

Uzoho lacked the talent that Enyeama had and it was cleared right from U17,reason why he was third choice keeper, fortunately for him he had good development than his peers and got the opportunity to be number one at 2018 WC

I think by now Uzoho should have shown us that he is the best to ever happen to Nigeria football history regarding goalkeepers.

Yeah kind of like the CR7 effect where every quality forward Ronaldo paired with in his career dipped in performance levels when he played alongside them.

Osimhen being our best forward means he can't be left out.

lovewins:
A part of me thinks we will see a better forward partnership in Awoniyi and Boniface than we've seen in Osimhen. If you check the forward partnership that most have complained about here, one player is consistent in all of them; Osimhen. The presence of Osimhen hasn't allowed for JP to experiment with other players as it will be ridiculous to think of playing without Osimhen. This injury absence allows him that luxury.

Methinks Osimhen thrives better as a lone striker.
