SportsWatching Super Eagles? Count Me Out! by Chxta(op): 4:12pm On Dec 30, 2005
I have never met Alhaji Galadima, but from a distance, he strikes me as an interesting character study, with multiple layers of paradox...

He came on the seat on the premise of a much vaunted high moral principle, which for the most part has not been contradicted. That is the good part. To this, and over four years of constant wrangling, he has seemingly delivered Nigerian football from the stranglehold of the State, represented by the Federal Ministry of Sports, outliving two Ministers, both literally and figuratively, and now facing down a third, with the added possibly of armoured tanks!

Within this period, expectedly, the affairs of the FA, has swung hither, tither, like a pendulum, culminating in the disastrous decision to play the crucial WCQ vs Angola in Kano, and our qualification going up in smoke!

From the same Ministry that he steadfastly fought for control, Galadima repeatedly sought funds!! And with self-righteous indignation!

But whatever becomes of him within this crisis (I suspect an arrest is not far from the horizon), he goes down in history as the one person who recognized the critical need to wrest control of football from Government. Never mind that the majority of regional reps on the Board are from State FAs, set up, owned and paid for by state governments!

For all the "good" he may have done, Galadima should have resigned when we failed to make the World Cup.

In finally choosing to hold the election in the manner he did, an election which IMO he would've won anyway (since in Naija the incumbent always wins), he opened himself to suspicion of never seeing beyond his self interest.
It will be interesting to see how this plays out...

Since Galadima's re-election yesterday,

*The Sports Ministry has recalled all its delegates from the NFA...

*The Police have sealed the NFA Headquarters...

*Most annoyingly, the authorities of the Eagles training camp in Faro, Portugal are threatening to throw the team out of the camp for non payment of bills.

It is going to even get more embarrassing for us I promise you.

However, one must not fail to note that in the contigent of aspirants who boycotted the Kano Congress was one Segun Odegbanmi, who for all his achievements and knowledge of the game, continues to represent the worst in perfidy...

Nigerian football is going to stutter for the next four years I tell you, with this bunch of jokers that have now been 'elected' to represent us.

I personally, will stop following the Super Eagles until July 17 2010 (projected final match of SA 2010)! I LIKE MYSELF, I DON'T NEED A HEART ATTACK.

You registered here just to say that?

At least Kuffor has played in top teams. If there is an award for stupidity as footballers, it should go to the following Nigerian players: Olofinjana (turned down Monaco and the Champions League to play in Wolves), Yobo (turned down Arsenal and Juventus to go to Everton), Utaka (left Lens for Rennes)!

Let me not scatter-yarn here...

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Real Madrid vs Arsenal by Chxta(m): 6:30pm On Dec 29, 2005
On current form, it will no doubt be an Arsenal victory over 2 legs. But as we all know, form is temporary, class is permanent. Madrid have class. February is still a while away, the transfer window is just reopening, Wodgate is coming back to fitness, Cicinho who isn't cup tied has joined Madrid, things look bright for them.

This match will be open!

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Calling football soccer: America is dead wrong! by Chxta(m): 6:23pm On Dec 29, 2005
Actually, it was the English who invented the word soccer. Soccer is one of the 3 types of sport that where all called "football" at the end of the 19th century: Association football (the beautiful game), Rugger football, and Gaelic football.

Gaelic football didn't evolve, maybe because it was too violent. Rugger became what is now called Rugby, while Association Football or "Assoc" as the English called it became "Soccer"... Get the gist? Assoc, soccer.

It was officially called Soccer until 1904 when FIFA was formed. This is because the rest of Europe already had alternative names for rugby while soccer was called Futbol...

FIFA: Federation de International Futbol Association... which is French and often mistranslated to Federation of International Football Associations wheras the actual translation would be International Federation of Football Associations...

You are biased. Period !
Do you know that Arsene Wenger is the only Coach in the Premiership that has never say Congratulations to Chelsea as premiership champions. Too full of himself.

You are not biased yet you quoted what Mourhino says about Wenger , you did no feed us with Mr wenger says as well.

"If Mourhino had 120 pages, i have about 10 as well"
Wrong maya tovarisch. Wenger was actually the first manager to concede the title last season. I'd have given you a link, unfortunately, I can't be bothered to search Planet Football at the moment...
SportsRe: Clubs vs Nations Cup by Chxta(m): 12:02pm On Dec 28, 2005
May be written, yes, but we have to acknowledge that CAF is full of dunderheads. Why else would we be the only Confederation on the planet that our national team tournament clashes with the schedules of the clubs that every player wants to play for?

Even the South Americans restructured the Copa America so that the Europeans don't have too many complaints...

Still doesn't remove from the fact that Aiyegbeni is a dunce though...

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Arsenal-Chelsea by Chxta(op): 7:36am On Dec 28, 2005
Have no apologies for my statements just yet. People who knew me back in the day would know that I supported Chelsea when Kanu scored that hattrick 7 seasons ago now. I supported Chelsea back in the day because I didn't like ManU, and neither did I like Arsenal, and back then the only league one could watch was the EPL.
Thank God for RAI and Canal Plus that is no longer the case, and thank God for the internet and PPLive so that even when DSTv chose to misbehave which is in my opinion a too common occurrence, then I can still watch my Juve play.
I began to dislike Chelsea when Roman took over and it became Ch€£$k¥!

And why do I have the freedom to dislike Ch€£$k¥? Because I was never a fan, just a supporter.

Now, to the complaints of me being biased: No I am not. I just said the truth albeight in a not too pleasant manner...
GP, you may have been a Chelsea fan, but even you have to acknowledge that the majority of people screaming Hossana now are Ch€£$k¥ fans, not Chelsea fans...
You must acknowledge that Mourinho's attitude is distasteful at the very best. What is his problem? Must he always find someone to wind up? Take for example his calling Wenger a Viewer earlier this season, and then making a statement that implied that he had a dossier with 120 pages of comments that Wenger had made conccerning Ch€£$k¥! That is crazy if there ever was a definition of the word...

I could go on and on, but if I do, it will once again be misinterpreted as beef, so I hereby hold my peace.

But before I post this, let me tell you the only team I have beef for: and no it is not Milan (that is a healthy rivalry), no it is not Roma (Bianconeri tend to look at the Romanista with a lot of pity), it is the English National Team!

I don't see anything good in MASSOB either, and unlike Seun I am Igbo. These people are living in 1967. Why should we be talking of division when it is ovbious that we stand to gain more by uniting?
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Arsenal-Chelsea by Chxta(op): 9:48am On Dec 21, 2005
Difference between Henry's quicky taken freekick from last season and the offside incident from this season:

Henry asked Paul Durkin if he could take the kick, and Durkin answered in the affirmative, and noted it in his match report, this time around Rob Styles didn't even acknowledge Henry's presence during the van Persie incident in his report.

How do you reconcile such disparity?

Hi! I have been using Linux stictly for one and a half years and it's really awesome. I don't know where some of you guys got the idea that it's not ripe for desktop use yet. My whole family(mum, dad, brother, sister and puppy wink) uses Linux comfortably. My brother (younger) does image editing (GIMP) and burns CDs stress free (K3B). My sis (younger) does some school research off the web(FIREFOX) and some chatting(GAIM). She also shows off her album (DIGIKAM). My mum and dad use it for office documents (OPENOFFICE). My puppy, well..., just plays with the keyboard.

I use it for music management along with syncing with my mp3 player (AMAROK, XMMS, BEEP, etc,) videos (infact I have configured a film server on a P233 mach), little audio editing (audacity), some programming (basically C++), simulation and modelling (octave, maxima and scilab), drawing of schematics (chemical flow) using DIA. I also use a PIM package (Kontact), an personal accounting manager (GNUCASH) and I also sync info on my Palm PDA with it.

My machine is the heart of my home network. It's got Samba running for Windows services (for file and print services), it's a proxy server to share our internet connection and an FTP server (pretty redundant).

I must confess that I miss some things with Windows XP:
Blue Screen of Death (BSOD)
Norton ATV annoying popups
Defragmentation and manual disk checks
Occasional reinstallation of the operating system because of degrading performance with time
Regular visits to Otigba for pirated software (hey, I can't afford origos)
Under-utilization of computer hardware
Multi user lies
can't remember the rest

That's just some stuff we do with Linux @ HOME and I'm the only "techie" in my family. Not ripe for home use? Think again! Gnu/Linux & OpenSource RULES!!!
wink
