You claim that the SS and SE are states are not fairly being allocated revenue. I can agree with this being true of the oil-producing states, but don't agree that this is true for non-oil states.
The SE geo-political zone is not fairly allocated revenue. Also, as i goes for non-oil producing states , oil is not they only resource that nigeria uses for revenue so by all means unfair allocation does not exclude them.

You should ask the British then why they chose Lagos as their primary port. I still don't think this is some sort of discrimination thing.

Again, if Rivers or Awka Ibom want a seaport, they should apply for one and use their own money (or that of investors they find) to build it. Just like we in the West are doing.
Never said there was anything wrong with Lagos being the primary port. That is besides the point,it is not a problem. YOU in the west are not doing anything different from what THEY are doing so don't make it seem as the YOU and the west are being any more industrious as THEY in the SS/SE are doing. We both know and this is no secret, even numerous Ghanaians(outsiders) have come on here to confirm it, that nigeria discriminates based on ethnicity.Getting the "ok" to complete or begin a task in nigeria is not like doing so in the U.S, Im sure you know that. Which is the reason more that the 2011 presidential election is signified "The begining of the end of nigeria".

Basis for this being true for non-oil producing states?
I'm not exctly getting your question.

Numerous small, inland ports which can only be reached by river and which are not suitable for large ships will not be able to compete, yes. If they want to build such ports, fine, it is a free country. I just don't it is the best use of their resources.
I myself wasn't talking about inland ports.

Naw, PH is again on the river rather than the sea.
My bad, meant Rivers not PH parse( all though its not out of the question). The same goes for Akwa Ibom.

Can you please back this up with a reference of some sort? I googled and found nothing. So you are saying some SE state submitted an application for a seaport and the Nigerian Ports Authority denied it?
Will do. I never said it was the SE or SS state that said they would do that.Frankly they are not fairly allocated revenue by the FG.However, There were rich individuals who volunteered but weren't allowed.

Well, first of all, the deep sea port looks like it will be in Ondo, not Ogun (Ogun is building a FTZ).
I guess you didn't catch the article. It said clearly "Ogun State" you should even search nairaland for it.
Second, the more ports the merrier. Ports can be very profitable if done properly, it isn't a matter of "need." And taking a quick glance at a map of Ondo (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Nigeria_Ondo_State_map.png), and considering the following quote:then it at least seems plausible to me that this will be a profitable endeavor (though not sure how accurate his claim of "longest coastline" is.)
The more ports the merrier right? Did you just say the more ports the less profitable?

Third, Ondo, rather than complaining about marginalization is:

Actuallly putting up money, namely N24 billion just for road development

Partnering with Ogun State, which has a FTZ of its own that is being developed.

Partnering with three major private firms who plan on providing $1 billion in funding (http://www.africanloft.com/africas-first-deep-sea-container-port-proposed-for-nigeria/)
BTW, Lagos sef is not standing still and watching. They are planning a $6 billion deep seaport themselves in Lekki (http://en.portnews.ru/news/13362/). Again, the federal government is not the one putting up the money for this, it will be done by private investors.
All of what you just listed above can be attributed to the revenue lagos has accumulated due to the lack of a sea port in the areas i stated earlier. Also, lagos has already gotten that jump start by having a sea port. I would be no difference if PH was granted that a long time ago. It would have those kinds of inversters as well.So there is nothing spectacular about whats happening to lagos and what is done by its people.

I don't think Igbos should be talking about an Igbo seaport because the seaport at Lagos is not Yoruba seaport and PH is not Okrika seaport. The problem with Bayelsa is that FG cannot fund the amount of money required for a seaport at Brass and the accompanying infrastructure.Lagos was successfully built because it had that edge of being a federal capital and secondly the terrain is not as difficult as Bayelsa.
And what of Rivers and Akwa Ibom?

so just because it not in a core igbo state, it means ethnicity is in it

There are igbos in bayelsa and Akwa Ibom too so i am alright with that. Seems like all you are worried about is ethnicity. sorry, you need to learn about the SS and its ethnic areas and the people.

Who though is going to spend money to build these things, though? I'm not opposed to Igbo liberation or whatever, even if it is just economic. But shouldn't the people who benefit from something be the ones paying for it? Like, if you want a port that benefits you and your people primarily, shouldn't you be willing to put money up?

I could see if the SW were getting tons and tons of federal projects alone. But we are not. What has the federal gov't done in Lagos, or any of the SW states lately? I think most of us are realizing that the federal government is useless, and anything we want to do, we will have to do ourselves.
Dapo they have already said they would put there own money up.you can even find the articles on the internet. The FG said no that they will not allow them. Do you think if it were that easy we wouldn't have already done that yeeeeears ago? There are still laws  and supreme laws on top of that that if broken will be hell to pay(army). Also, I doubt that about the FG hasn't done anything in the SW,although i do agree with the marginalisation, they just granted Ogun state a seaport lol. something that we in the East have been asking for for ages. As a matter of fact why would ogun even need a port? LOl.

If it were me in charge, I'd suggest these SE states should all collaborate together, pool money and resources together to make one port dominant. Lagos as a port has too many structural and physical advantages to be knocked off easily. But you give yourself absolutely zero chance if you are dividing up resources into 3 or 4 mediocre ports. One elite port stands a much better chance of being competitive with Lagos than 3 or 4 mediocre ports.
The people essentially are just asking for one sea port in the area, preferably Rivers because its just about in the middle; however, they were refused. Why? Because of ethnicity. Pure dumbness. This is what led to these different areas fighting for ports.

The mentality you have is why we Igbo deal with on a day to day bases. That's why people like me will continue to push for our liberation behind close doors. Lagos is not the only state on the sea. It cost money to move products all the way from lagos to the other side of the country. Rivers and Akwa Ibom are on the sea as well as bayelsa so why do they not have a sea port when it is economically going to benefit their states? have you ever asked yourself that question? If the state benefits from it then so will the country. It's basic Macro economics.

Yea, this is one of the reasons I believe that APGA is headed for bumper harvest next year. I pray that somehow Sullivan Chime of Enugu will declare for APGA and leave PDP for Nwodo and his crew.
I also pray that a strong candidate will bear APGA banners against Gov Orji in Abia state.

I basically pray for APGA to capture the entire south east. I don't see any other way for Igboland to gain true leadership and respect in Nigeria.
I'm really routing for Nwodo on this one because the more he continues with is pushing, the likelier Chime will leave and possibly for the AGPA. Even is he remains in PDP till after the election he may decamp. PDP is starting to make the governors feel like they are being puppeted around.

Well, my strong suspicion is that it is going to cost an enormous amount of money to dredge the Calabar River enough to make it attractive for large ships to come there.

Even looking at from Google Maps:
http://maps.google.com/maps?q=google+maps+calabar&um=1&ie=UTF-8&hq=&hnear=Calabar,+Nigeria&gl=us&ei=wV8FTbmwCYSClAekiZHECQ&sa=X&oi=geocode_result&ct=image&resnum=1&ved=0CBQQ8gEwAA

Look at how far Calabar is from the sea (compared to Lagos, which is right on the Atlantic.)

Then when you zoom in, you cannot even make out the waterway connecting Calabar to the Atlantic.

It is probably going to cost a lot of money to get the job done. Otherwise it would probably already be complete, and they wouldn't be trying to offload the work onto the Federal Government.

In any case, looks like they put the cart before the horse.
True. The question should be why are they rushing for a RIVERSIDE port and also could it be because Akwa Ibom and Rivers State does not have a SEASIDE port.

I'm happy that APGA is beginning to attract big fish politicians in Igboland at last. Rochas is one of the nnukwu mmanwu (big masquerade) politicians of Igboland.
One caveat though - get him to sign a bond NEVER to leave APGA after he settles in office. Get him to commit to APGA ideals of transparent and people oriented government. Let him also use his money to build the party in Imo and give the PDP the fight of their lives.

I have a feeling that next year's election will be a bazaar for APGA in the south east.

Ogbuewu picks APGA guber form for N5.5m
News Dec 9, 2010

By Chris Ochayi

Former Minister of Culture and Tourism, Ambassador Frank Ogbuewu, Thursday, picked the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, nomination and expression of interest forms at N5.5 million to run for the governorship election in Ebonyi State in 2011.

Ambassador Ogbuewu, who stormed  APGA’s national secretariat, alongside supporters and associates, declared during the ceremony that his mission to govern the state was to rescue it and its people from abject poverty created by the misrule of the incumbent administration in the state.

The former Nigerian Ambassador to Greece dismissed current governor Martins Elechi, saying he had failed to improve on the lives of the people.

According to him, Governor Elechi failed to provide basic dividends of democracy to the people and has allowed virtually all basic infrastructure to collapse, especially health  and educational sectors.

He said:  “Martins Elechi has not performed well in all ramifications -  health, education, road network, security, agriculture, completion of projects inherited from previous administrations, housing, etc.

“I intend to, therefore, improve on the economy of Ebonyi State by taking a critical look and review of the internally generated revenue and do what is right in that direction.  Today, it is not the case but I think we need to start by providing the basic things we need to put in place.

“As of now, I don’t see the state government being able to pay living wage to the people of the state.  Virtually everything has collapsed nothing works in the state the state is in comatose, there is paralysis.  The people of Ebonyi are even willing to pay their taxes but government is not willing to provide basic facilities for them.

“The difference I will bring into the state if elected are legion. I will improve on a lot of things like health.  Ebonyi State is in  shambles as far as health is concerned right now.  The Teaching Hospital in Ebonyi State used to be a reference hospital, but now, it is a shadow of its former self.

“All the consultants have abandoned the place. Today, we don’t have any good, functional hospital in Ebonyi State, except the Federal Medical Centre, which is too bad.

“Education is another sorry state.  The state university has closed down long ago and all their good lecturers have been running away.  The primary and secondary schools are not in good state also.  The entire education sector is nothing to write home about.”

I am from Delta and people in the area do accept that they are Igbos.A lot put their clan first but they do accept that they are Igbo. Is an Abiriba man completely the same as an Okiqwe man? the answer is No. Is an Afikpo man the same as an mbaise man? Hell no, but they are from the Eastern part of Igbo land. You can generalize Eastern Igbo as all being the "same" in "every" aspect.

Emmanuel, "wealth has been existing b/4" and " wealth/money comes first" means the same thing lol. We’ve no plan to leave Aba for Bauchi
•Says Alhaji Bello, whose great grandfather settled there over 100 years ago

From OKEY SAMPSON, Aba

Wednesday, May 26, 2010

https://www.sunnewsonline.com/images/Bello%20-26.gif

The forefathers of Alhaji Kaka Bello came to Aba in Abia State over 100 years ago. Upon their arrival, their host community in Ngwa accepted them and gave them land to settle down. Since then, the Bellos have been living in peace with their host and even inter-changing marriages with them.

Kaka Bello, 37, who is now the Sariki Hausawa (leader of the Hausa community) in Aba told Daily Sun revealed how they came to settle in the Enyimba City, saying they have no plan to return to their home state, Bauchi to live again. Excerpts:

Leadership challenge
It is a great challenge for me; for a young man of about 37 years assuming the leadership role of the Hausa community in a city like Aba. You can see how large the city is and Aba is highly populated by my people. I feel excited at the challenge.

Host community

The Igbos are very wonderful, most especially my host community because I have to start from home. When my great grandfather came to Aba more than 100 years ago, he was accepted by the Igbos (Ngwas). In fact, he and other members of the family were given a large expanse of land free at Ndiegoro (Aba) where they settled. Not only that, hospital Road/Mosque Street where we have our mosque was given to my people free of charge. We are still enjoying the privilege up till now. So, the Igbos are very wonderful people, they are very accommodating.

Ruling house
The first man from the Bello family that came to Aba in the late 19th Century who incidentally was the first-Hausa leader in Aba, was Mallam Mohammadu Bello.
He was my great grandfather. He died in 1962 and my grandfather took over the mantle of leadership of the Aba-Hausa community.
When my grandfather Alhaji Ibrahim Sariki Bello died in 1982, my late father Alhaji Sariki Tanko Bello took over and the mantle of leadership fell on me when my father died in 2004. So, you can see, since the inception of the Hausa community here in Aba over 100 years ago, the Bello family has been the ruling house.

Numeral strength
I cannot say exactly the number of northerners living here in Aba; they are  so many. The number should not be anything less than 20,000. Very soon, we will embark on a census to know the exact figure. You know my people live and do business in Osisioma, Obingwa, Ugwunagbo, Aba North, and Aba South local governments and their numerical strength is high.

Sectarian crises
We have to educate our people on the essence of unity because there will not be any meaningful development in a chaotic situation. We are Nigerians and we have to accept ourselves as such. An Igbo man should see an Hausa man as part of himself and vice versa. Even when we are provoked, we should be able to tolerate ourselves. Dialogue I believe should be the way out instead of engaging in fracas. We also have to put God first in whatever we are doing. If we do that, sectarian crisis in the country will be drastically reduced.

Another thing is that inter-tribal marriages should be encouraged. I think it is very important to put religion aside at times and inter-marry so that we can achieve peace in the country and live as one.

Councillorship bid

I was denied the opportunity to serve my people. I am highly accepted here in Aba. It were the Igbos that campaigned for me, it were the Igbos that voted for me. During my campaign, it were the Igbos that formed the bulk of my campaign team. In fact, the Igbos voted massively for me, but the problem I had was the problem we generally have in Nigeria today where one will win election and another declared winner.

Going back to Bauchi

Ah No! Aba is my home. I was born here and have lived all my life in the city. What am I going back to Bauchi State for? I have been getting all I want in this commercial city. I am comfortable and my family members too; in fact, the Hausa community here is happy. The only thing I can do is visit Bauchi probably spend few days and come back to Aba.
