okay, point taken ( on the other parts)

@ bolded

okay, i should have said it was dominated by the easterners and northerner.
also, ONLY the west was occupied by the "nigerian" army back then so the insecurity among them would have been high and they might have felt like leaving nigeria. would matazzagi and udueze have complained if that statue quo remained the same for the west?

( because this argument is quite sensitive, i think we should drop it. we have done this over and over again on NL and it only ends up reopening old wounds)

i wish it happens that way but it does not everytime. most parent countries would not just allow a group to secede without some sort of agreement. eg uk and usa, yugoslav wars etc.
Now did the Easterners dominate by discrimination or hard work? the same goes for the north.

if its about the north seceding we all know that they can decide to secede anytime of the day and no one would raise a finger! not because we do not care, its because there is nothing anyone can do about it!!! thats the reality.

about the "declare war" stuff.

if the parent country is not willing to let you go or you cannot reach an agreement with the parent country to secede then its a declaration of war.
Not so a declaration is a declaration when it is announced and also with the first shot.

matazzamagi, i am waiting for your answer!!!

i believe with azikwe being the CEREMONIAL president, it would have been viewed as an attempt to relegate the west politically back then coupled with how well the igbos travelled and the fact that only the north and east had military outpost, the west had no army. it was favourable to the igbos back then and it would still have remained favourable to them if not for the coup and i believe if the statue quo continued till today, the west and mid west would have wanted to leave but would the east have allowed them (because of lagos)? the answer is NO.

the point for this is, i do not want people like matazzamagi and co to just look at it from one point of view instead they should see it fro various ethnic groups point of view since we had regional governments then.
At the time where was the West politically? Also there were no "eastern", "western" or "northern" military outposts parse.the military was national until soldiers were made to return back to there ethnical regions based on term oil within the army.was nigeria "favorable" to the Igbo back then because they held the other other regions back?if not then why was it "favorable" to us? And as far as Azikiwe being a "ceremonial" president how would that have anything to do with the west getting relegated? Also, Azikiwe was born and bred in the north,so for all we know both pres and prim were "northners".

bruv, for you to declare your country, then you are declaring war!!!

i was viewed by the nigerian government that biafrans wanted to take some land that does not belong to them so they wanted to save their citizens.
wrong. i real life war is declared with these words, "(I) declare war". wrong, if that was the case then there would be no war. also the nigeria government alone the north to secede but the north turned around and changed their minds after US and British diplomats convinced them about a chance to rule nigeria so that couldn't be it. Also when they were leaving what did Ojukwu say " If they want to leave let them leave!" the man didn't care.

so in a war, ojukwu did not expect casualities? i wonder how some people think!

how can you declare a war or a fight with someone and expect them not to do anything to winhuh how do you go for a war and expect your "enemy" to cloth, shelter and feed you so you can grow stronger and beat him?

pls, i was a war. during genocides, people do not fight back and even invade(lol). the jews and the tutsi did not invade or fight back (militarily).
Now ask you self who declared war? then ask yourself who invaded whos land first?then ask your self how would one side be wrong in invading the land of the people who invaded their land first

it is not a genocide but a war

why should we be afraid of the truth when it is just going to show how evil ojukwu is
Lies being planted into the young childrens head can be countered by the truth being told in detail by those elites/heads that were agitators of the war.Keep it in mind, and without ignorance.

Gowon,Ojukwu,Danjuma,David Mark,OBJ are really doing nigeria horribly by keeping quite and not coming together to tell the whole story with truth, all that happened before and after, and behind doors. That information would real industrialize the nigerian people in building unity but the back drop is, the elites will be pummeled.

@ your post

thats because americans are more "educated" than us. letting the so called agberos in lagos know that igbos "tried" invading and you think they would not start their thuggery is impossible. i think the best time for nigeria NOW, is to hush up until the literacy percentage in the country improves.
First noone is worried about "agberos" or "lagos".they aint go do no tin. The story would be honestly told and not one sided. That is why there is turmoil now because the story is not unitedly told but biasly told in one's community. The "trying" to invade lagos will be compared to the trying to invade/invading bayelsa and Delta state(Anioma) first by their commandos. As long as both sides are told fairly then it is welcoming and commendable;however, the politicians who are alive today that participated in the war would further unite the country if they came out and discussed the war together then came out to the public and showed unity amongst themselves.

pls did u read my post at all

how did i agree that biafrans should be remembered in nigeria soil,,,,,,,how

the reason i insulted her is because she is not in nigeria and can not talk for the decent igbo in other part of the country

why should a healing wound be reopened i ask

why should young children be exposed to the horror of 1967

why should northern children be told that igbo leaders killed there spiritual leader and yet they are still alive and living among them

don't u think that there would be mass riot in the north again

why should anyone agree or allow her to talk childishly with her knowing the after effect of her actions
the wound is neither healing or has healed. In the US, the north ans south fought a civil war and the war is still remembered, discussed in schools, and deaths honored publicly and nationwide till this day so im not getting ur point.

we all know what happen was bad but since she said they did not die as nigerians but as biafras, i see no reason or what so ever for biafra(another country) to be remembered in nigeria (another country) . i think they should be remembered in biafra as she suggested.

then again if 1000500 died then what was the igbo population in 1967 may be 10 million or a billion

i do not know how they think that an average nigerian(even igbos) now, thinks of what happened in 1967

how is that going to solve the problem in nigeria now

i believe that if biafran are to be remembered, then nigerian both northerner and yorubas that were kill in there invasion of the west and there leaders coup should also be remembered
i know that if this ceremony occurs, i tell u igbos in the north and west are not safe,,,,, i am telling u now if that happens because it would reopen healing wounds

i pray this part of nigerian history would be forgotten
The wounds were never healed in the first place. Igbo will be safe in both places.

Ebonyi are not for Elechi. There is no way he can win that state without rigging and if he rigs i hope it will bring war to the Ebonyi state government until the guy is forced out of the seat.Riot, riot, riot. APGA has the perfect opportunity now in the SE with all of the PDP infighting. They better not miss there chance. Ogbuewu is a real good look for APGA. The APGA need to attack Abia hard.We all no there is no way in hell Abians are going to vote that man back into power. They need to start clamoring now. Enugu PDP is going down by the day and its starting to look like Chime will opt out because of Nwodo. It is best he goes to APGA(which is most likely). The people will definitely vote him back and that is for sure.

OK . . . let me get this straight. She was never going to do well as information minister BUT she accepted the job anythings? Never resigned at any point, even after the Ekiti debacle or even the Rebranding hell, or the NTA blunder?

OK . .  You claim she rose to the occasion to challenge the status quo, and I say THAT IS A BLOODY LIE. Matter of fact, she did not challenge the status quo, what she did was SILENCE the call for the RESIGNATION of Yar adua and instead demanded he be allowed to continue as President. This resulted in the circumventing of the constitution by NASS and installation of an Acting President which should have only happened at the authorization of the president. Isn’t that what the rumored cabal wanted in the first place?

If you doubt it, I suggest you bring up that wonderful sweet memo she read to you, and tell me where exactly you get your heroine from in that whole.
Sorry, You MISUNDERSTAND her message – don’t even pretend your heroine has anything to do with that. That was a HIGH Point for you, definitely but sorry, it was the revelation to the nation that Akunyili was willing to play politics as much as she could to remain relevant.

Ogbuewu picks APGA guber form for N5.5m

News Dec 9, 2010

By Chris Ochayi

Former Minister of Culture and Tourism, Ambassador Frank Ogbuewu, Thursday, picked the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, nomination and expression of interest forms at N5.5 million to run for the governorship election in Ebonyi State in 2011.

Ambassador Ogbuewu, who stormed APGA’s national secretariat, alongside supporters and associates, declared during the ceremony that his mission to govern the state was to rescue it and its people from abject poverty created by the misrule of the incumbent administration in the state.

The former Nigerian Ambassador to Greece dismissed current governor Martins Elechi, saying he had failed to improve on the lives of the people.

According to him, Governor Elechi failed to provide basic dividends of democracy to the people and has allowed virtually all basic infrastructure to collapse, especially health and educational sectors.

He said: “Martins Elechi has not performed well in all ramifications - health, education, road network, security, agriculture, completion of projects inherited from previous administrations, housing, etc.

“I intend to, therefore, improve on the economy of Ebonyi State by taking a critical look and review of the internally generated revenue and do what is right in that direction. Today, it is not the case but I think we need to start by providing the basic things we need to put in place.

“As of now, I don’t see the state government being able to pay living wage to the people of the state. Virtually everything has collapsed nothing works in the state the state is in comatose, there is paralysis. The people of Ebonyi are even willing to pay their taxes but government is not willing to provide basic facilities for them.

“The difference I will bring into the state if elected are legion. I will improve on a lot of things like health. Ebonyi State is in shambles as far as health is concerned right now. The Teaching Hospital in Ebonyi State used to be a reference hospital, but now, it is a shadow of its former self.

“All the consultants have abandoned the place. Today, we don’t have any good, functional hospital in Ebonyi State, except the Federal Medical Centre, which is too bad.

“Education is another sorry state. The state university has closed down long ago and all their good lecturers have been running away. The primary and secondary schools are not in good state also. The entire education sector is nothing to write home about.”

PoliticsFurore Over Plateau’s New Directive On Land by chyz(op): 8:05pm On Dec 09, 2010
Furore over Plateau’s new directive on land

Thursday, 09 December 2010 00:00 From Isa Abdulsalami, Jos News - National

LAST week, the Plateau State government, through its Commissioner for Lands, Survey and Town Planning, Athanasius Nanle Dashen, directed all holders of land titles in the state, including Certificates of Occupancy (C of O) and Rights of Occupancy (Rs of O), to surrender them for recertification and verification and for possible issuance of new ones.

This has generated fierce reactions from members of the Hausa community in Jos who feel that the new development is targeted at them especially as the natives have been grumbling that their forefathers, out of generosity, gave their lands to the Hausa for the purpose of settlement.

It is the belief of the natives that now that their kinsman, Jonah Jang, is at the helm of affairs as governor, they will reclaim all the lands they freely gave to the Hausa.
But in a swift reaction, spokesman of the Ulammah Council in the state, Alhaji Muhammad Sani Mudi, said: “You have to notify people that you have something like this in the pipeline. You don’t go and revoke people’s titles without notice. This time, they just did it without formal notice, which is wrong legally by Lands Use Act. It is wrong to revoke somebody’s title without notice.

“This government stopped issuance of R of O and C of O for a very long time since it came into office about three-and-a-half years ago. And I am sure that by now, a lot of applications must have piled up there in the ministry. If you have a new system that you want to implement, why don’t you start with those pending before you? That will at least convince people of the transparency and the genuineness and honesty in the system.

“You have not done that and you are asking people to bring in more which clearly shows that there is some malicious intent in it and it is not a clear thing. It is unfortunate that this is coming at a time when we are gradually enjoying peace after all the crises that we have been experiencing. Remember that part of this problem is that some people are targeted and regarded as settlers who don’t deserve to own land, property and live peacefully here”.

Mudi asserted that the new pronouncement shows a sign of lawlessness on the part of the government. “You don’t revoke in the first instance. What you do is that you ask people to come and renew and maybe after two years or so, all titles will cease to exist. That is the normal approach, but not just revocation at first instance without notification. That shows in a sense that the government is always a lawless government. It is government that does not respect the rule of law. This is very unfortunate, a government that does not abide by due process. Our advice is that government should see reason and retrace its steps”, he added.

At the press briefing on Monday, November 29, the commissioner said that the aim of issuing new titles in place of the old ones is to forestall forgery as the new ones have been imbued with no less than five security features that make it difficult for anyone to tamper with.
He said all title holders in the state are without exception expected to come to the ministry to re-certify their titles and that the government is giving them six months starting from December 2010 within which to do so.

exactly, since 2003 and now it is 2010 that it was given the ok for international status. This is when the Northern and Western elements of the FG in power has been flushed out of those vital positions which prevented the actualization from occurring earlier.

I dont think this Jonathan option is the best for Ndigbo in the long run. I've not seen anything that Jonathan has done that is out of the ordinary. Let's push one of our own into the presidential villa-a place where nobody of Igbo extraction has lived for over 19 years, yet we're one of the dominant ethnics. It's about maintaining our relevance as one of the tripod. Others are playing dirty to be there, which shows that it's important to be there.

The long and short of it is that the Ekwueme option of aligning with the north to produce an Igbo VP is the best for Ndigbo now.
No. no Igbo VP we've been playing that role for too long and have not yielded any fruit. It is time to try something new. Ekwueme should know better. He got screw twice for this same move, once in the 80s and once in the 90s by the same north. Have you heard of atiku or IBB screaming for fairness for the Igbo before now? No. Now all of a sudden they've become Igboists. And yes it is about maintaining our relevance so it has to be played smart. If you think the Niger Bridge will be repaired/redone if atiku is let into office, think again. If you thing we will have a seaport if he is in office think again. Ogun state has now been given a seaport and we have been asking for this in oguta, onitsha, and ph(a real one) looooong before they did. the northerners didnt want Igbo to ever have the position of Minister of Interior because it had too much power. We have it now(because of jonathan) and look at how the immigration problem now has been getting check and ID's and other are now being implemented. You read about the tightening on immigration in the news papers every week. Atiku will kill this motion. The census is coming up soon  and also 2015 is closer than what it seems.Atiku will make sure he prevents anybody from stopping there brothers from chad, niger, and cameroon from coming in and voting and starting violence when needed. He definitely is not going to allow any census to be recorded based of ethnicity(I think we both know why).

excanny, siding with the north is not the way. I'll give an analogy, the goverment has been in charge of electricity for years upon years and still we have no steady electricity and some no light at all. The smart thing to do is try something different, wich is privatization. This is an analogy for the Igbo work with the north and the whole VP thing.

What's the guaranty that all these are not for getting votes, and that they'll continue after he gets into power. See, there are deeper issues. Why are the northerners dying to always have power? Why are the likes of Clark solidly behind Jonathan, to the point of breaking all rules, if producing a President wasn't that important? Bayelsa is to have a federal university and a refinery courtesy of a six-months' taking charge at Aso villa. What has Jonathan done for the SE? Enugu airport? Were there not plans already for that? Dont let us sell our birthright for a meal of porridge.

FG denies granting Enugu airport int’l status

Latest News Dec 1, 2009

By Tony Edike

ENUGU—THE Federal Government said, yesterday that it has not given approval for upgrading of the Akanu Ibiam Airport, Enugu to an international status,  stressing that only four airports, including those in Lagos, Abuja, Kano and Port Harcourt would remain as international airports for now.

The explanation came against the backdrop of recent media reports that the Federal Government had awarded a N4.13 billion contract for the upgrading of facilities in the airport to an international status, a development that was hailed by the people of the South East.

Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu had also confirmed to newsmen in Enugu, that the contract which was approved by the Federal Executive Council in its recent meeting at Abuja, was aimed at granting the airport an international status.

But the Minister of Aviation, Mr. Babatunde Omotoba, while flagging-off the project at Enugu airport yesterday, said the contract was primarily to rehabilitate and upgrade facilities in the airport to meet aviation safety standard as well as to make provision for heavier aircrafts.

He said,  “I can not confirm that Enugu airport has become an international airport for now.  We have four international airports, Lagos, Abuja, Kano and Port Harcourt but we have other airports that have started showing signs of strong traffic. That is Calabar, Enugu, Kaduna and Benin, and government is determined to ensure that available systems in the airports meet up with relevant standards.”

Stating that the contractor has within one year to complete the expansion work, which would also involve expanding the width of the runway to 60 meters, the Minister said that in the next one year, Enugu airport would have become a brand new airport with new runways.

Omotoba said that the airport would be shut to traffic by January next year and airlines that operate at the airport will use the Sam Mbakwe Airport, Owerri, Imo State, as alternative.
