Fashola hosts Imo governor

By Our Reporter

Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola (SAN) yesterday hosted his Imo State counterpart, Rochas Okorocha.

Okorocha visited Fahsola at the Lagos House, Marina.

The Lagos governor said Lagos remains a place of succour and land of promise and land of opportunity for Igbo.

He said: “If there are policy issues by the government that affect any citizen, there are ways of redressing such policies, but those channels will not be pursued by first bringing forward the regional position, ethnic position or religious position. When this is done, the substance is lost”.

Fashola said states should be the laboratories of best practices.

“I believe that you have the opportunity to espouse some of these postulations at the various meetings like Governors’ Forum and Council of States with the freshness that you bring. This generation has the opportunity to demonstrate that Nigeria is not a lost cause,” he added.

Okorocha said he was in Lagos to explore the possibility of partnering with the Fashola administration.

He commended the determination of Fashola to serve the people and urged others to borrow a leaf from his exceptional performance.

The Imo governor also applauded the strong relationship existing between the Yoruba and Igbo in Lagos.

He also called for the strengthening of states and regions in the country.

PoliticsSouthsouth People Seek Appointments In Lagos by Chyz2(op): 3:33am On Jun 13, 2011
Southsouth people seek appointments in Lagos

By Sunday Ogundugba

The Southsouth members of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in Lagos State have appealed to the leadership of the party to include them in political appointments.

Addressing reporters in Lagos over the weekend, state Chairman, Southsouth Traditional Council, Chief Charles Ogodo said having worked for the success of the ACN in the state, the Southsouth people should be given exco slots and appointments in different agencies in the state as promised.

Ogodo, who praised ACN leader Asiwaju Bola Tinubu for his visionary ideals, said the group had been marginalised and sidelined in many local governments unlike other ethnic groups in the state.

Ogodo said the Southsouth people worked for the ACN because they believed so much in the personality, integrity and political vision of Tinubu since he was elected governor of the state.

His words: “Other ethnic groups resident in Lagos have their appointed representatives in the state government. Through such representatives, most of the social, cultural and mutual welfare needs of their people are catered for without having to depend so much on the government.

“Having taken part in the actualisation of the achievements and successes of the party in the last elections, we want these successes to reflect in the lives of our people. Like other ethnic groups in our party ACN, we want Southsouth people to be given political appointments and representation in the state government as commissioners, special advisers and board appointees.

“The essence of these benefits requested by the Southsouth people in Lagos however is basically for empowerment. The ultimate advantage of these benefits is in the interest of the state government and our party ACN.

PoliticsRe: To Save Nigeria: The Revolutionary Coup And The Civil War by Chyz2: 11:25pm On Jun 11, 2011
ekt_bear:
My own suspicion of the truth of this matter is that not much actually went wrong with this coup.

It was purely an attempt by the Easterners to decapitate their erstwhile allies, the Northerners who they realized had grown too powerful (you can read about the census a few years before the coup which caused a dispute between North and East.)

Which is fine and well. But don't try to sell that as any act of patriotism or anything other than serving sectarian interest.

In other words, don't piss on me and tell me that it is only raining.
Did the coup fail?

Emergence of Tambuwal as Speaker, a Hausa/Fulani agenda – Fasehun

On June 11, 2011 · In News

By ABDULWAHAB ABDULAH

President, Oodua People’s Congress, OPC, Dr Frederick Fasehun has said the emergence of Hon. Aminu Tambuwal as the new Speaker, House of Representatives was a dangerous development and a slap on Yoruba race.

He noted that the emergence of Tambuwal as the Speaker of the lower House now placed the nation’s governance and leadership of the legislative arm in the hands of a region of the country.

Speaking at a press congress organized by the group to register their discomfort over the development, Dr Fasehun lamented that the step taken by Tambuwal and those who teamed up with him was deliberately planned to scheme out the people of the South West from taking a shot in the ongoing dispensation.

Fasehun, noted that the new Speaker, executed “a malevolent plot, deliberately designed to shortchange the South-West which sailed through and Hon. Aminu Tambuwal from Sokoto State emerged as Speaker.

That places Nigeria’s bicameral legislature firmly under the control of one part of the country. As a result, the North now controls the posts of the Vice President, Senate President and House of Representatives and that is: Number Two, Number Three and Number Four positions in the country’s hierarchy.

“This is very dangerous. It will be the first time such a configuration is imposed on the country. In 1999 when someone from the South-West reigned as President and a Northerner was Vice President, the East controlled the Senate while the North headed the House of Representatives. This guaranteed the equitable balancing of the power equation amongst Nigeria’s geo-political entities.”

He called on the people of the region to be weary of the new political development saying, “this era of vicious marginalization must be converted into the South-West’s finest hour.

An evil has been perpetrated against the race by this marginalization, no doubt. But rather than fold up and wither away with resentment, our people should synthesise some good out of this episode, seizing it as a golden opportunity for Yoruba Renaissance.

“This is our chance to actualize the true Federalism we have always prayed and clamoured for. This must serve as a clarion call for the Yoruba people and leadership to take their destiny in their hands and fashion out a roadmap for the future of our ethnic nationality. Since the days of the pre-independence conferences, Yoruba people have always stood for true federalism.”

You are so daf.t! I have seen all the trash you have been writing on vanguard. I mean, don't you have something better to do? You once told me you were from the SE, all of a sudden, sometime this year, you started saying you are from Delta. What an A55!

Offtopic: Because of my respect for some Igbo posters, I will not degrade myself and disrespect Ndigbo. Insult the SW, Tinubu and whoever. But please do not insult Awolowo. My parents benefited from his policies. Most, if not all Mid-westerners also benefited from his policies. Without God using Awo, my parents might not be where they are today, hence, I respect the man!
Thank you!
First point, I never said i was from the SE,but do i side with the SE and see myself as an easterner? heck yea cheesy. It is where all Igbos originated from. About delta state, which you know nothing about, i never said i was from ANY state until Beaf noticed I was from there then i revealed it. I care little for what goes on with Delta state outside of Anioma. Get it right nicca, but i do know what is going on in the state, unlike you. grin

As far as the Mid-west benefitting from the Yoruba domination of the minority tribes of the former Western region, that is a damn lie. Hence, the creation of the MID-WEST REGION,dummy. grin.

Typical jason who finds it necessary to shatter anything igbo but complains when we do it back.

Kogi: Why Okun can’t be gov now –Speaker Olafemi

From EMMANUEL ADEYEMI, Lokoja

Thursday, June 09, 2011

Kogi State House of Assembly Speaker Clarence Olafemi has explained why power shift may not be achievable now in the state: “It may be very difficult for an Okunman to become governor in Kogi State, unless we are more united and we change our passive attitude to politics. We cannot go out alone, we must negotiate with our ethnic groups in state.

The out-going said this when he paid a “thank you” visit to traditional rulers in his domain. He thanked the monarchs for the support he enjoined while he was in office as the acting governor of the state in 2008, during the governorship re-run. Olafemi was the longest serving speaker of the state House of Assembly having been the speaker from 2007 till date without impeachment. He is currently the deputy governorship candidate of the Peoples democratic Party (PDP), in the state. He also debunked the insinuations that Governor Ibrahim Idris’ administration has not done enough for the Okun people:

“As your royal fathers would recall, Kogi State was on the brink of crisis of incalculable proportion when I stepped in as acting governor. With your support, I was able to put the machinery of government on track and did my best such that within 24 hours after leaving the governorship seat, the Attah Igala and president of the state council of chiefs hosted a reception in my honour where I was conferred with the title of Ogah Attah Igala.
“The following day, my royal fathers in Okun land conferred on me the title of the Asiwaju of Okunland, with 20 other titles following in sequence all in acknowledgement and appreciation of my performance in office.

“Within my 60 days in office as the acting governor, I initiated and executed 59 projects which cut across the three senatorial districts of the state. Among them are the construction of the Shintaku-Mozum-Oguma Road, the Idah erosion control project which gulped over N200 million, both in the Eastern senatorial district. In the central axis, I awarded and paid the mobilization fees of Ageva- Ogori Road project.
“In the western senatorial district, I iniated and established the College of Education (Technical) Kabba, Governement Science Secondary School, Mopa, Junior Secondary School, Okedigba and several other road projects.

“On the issue of producing an Okun governor, I remain strongly committed to the issue of power rotation. That was why I put all my resources into the governorship contest. I was here in the Obaro’s palace with six of the seven other contestants from Okun where series of meetings were held for us to step down for one candidate so that we can have an indivisible house.
“Again, I attended all the meetings called by our leaders under the chairmanship of General David Jemibewon for us to have a consensus candidate. But to my surprise, my Okun brothers instead of cooperating decided to go their different ways. Even several attempts to form an alliance with the Ebira in the Central axis also failed
“As the zero hour drew nearer, all efforts to arrive at a consensus candidate among the aspirants from the west and central failed. I knew defeat was certain for all of us, all aspirants were on the political field negotiating individually.

“On my honour, my royal fathers, I did not know what others were negotiating. I was offered the position of a deputy governorship slot, which after due consultations with some Okun political leaders I accepted.
“I believe with this position, a lot can be achieved in terms of our entitlements, democracy dividends, socio-economic and political emancipation, if I occupy the position of a deputy governor.

“To my greatest surprise, some of my fellow contestants went all out to discredit me, calling me all sorts of names, all because they wanted me to fall as they fell. They forgot that God’s plans for every one differs. “It may be very difficult for an Okun man to become governor in Kogi State, unless we are more united and we change our passive attitude to politics. We cannot go out alone, we must negotiate with our ethnic groups in state
“This is not the time for Okun to leave the PDP. Our sons were among the founding fathers of the party. We have laboured in the PDP, we must reap there.”

Hope he's not talking about ministerial postions because i thought those positions were given to enhance the nigerian economy, not as a gift or compensation. We'll see. Would be naive if that is what jonathan is hinting at though. If anything It'd be in nigeria's best interest to give the "gift" to a Swesterner of Ijaw or Egun extraction but definitely not the typical Swesterners, we all know who they are I aint goin say no names. We definitely don't need any more billions of nairas stolen by the usuals. As for the NE, a Tiv(christian) from Taraba State would do.
