Weren't you the one that called Tinubu the "Yoruba leader"? OBJ and Tinubu is not the problem. We, the people within nigeria(citizens) are the problem. All we do is pray and complain.

TewMuch:
Why Nigeria’s unity is still fragile — Obasanjo
By MIKE ODIEGWU
Sunday, 13 Feb 2011

Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo
The former President of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, has raised the alarm that the unity of Nigeria remained fragile blaming the development on those he called “priests and barons of division.”

He said it was shameful that those promoting disunity and fanning embers of discord in the country had benefitted immensely from all privileges obtainable in Nigeria.

Obasanjo spoke in Minna, Niger State, on Saturday during the second term campaign inauguration of the Governor of the state, Dr. Babangida Aliyu, which was organised by the state Peoples Democratic Party.

President Goodluck Jonathan and his deputy, Namadi Sambo, were represented at the event by the Minister of Information, Mr Labaran Maku, in the event which attracted many dignitaries such as the Governors of Kwara, Dr. Bukola Saraki; Kaduna, Patrick Yakowa; and Zamfara states, Alhaji Mamud Shinkafi.

The inauguration, which was witnessed by hordes of party supporters at the Trade Fair Complex, had in attendance some elder statesmen such as the former Vice-President, Chief Alex Ekwueme, Ambassador Maitama Sule and Chief Ebenezer Babatope.

Former dictator, General Ibrahim Babangida, (retd.) who was supposed to be the chief host, however, sent his son, Mohammed, to represent him.

Obasanjo said instead of leveraging on their educational and privileged backgrounds to inform the less privileged on importance of peace and tranquility in the country, some politicians had continuously promoted divisive tendencies for their selfish interests.

He said, “I feel a little bit apprehensive because those of us who have enjoyed the greatest benefits in this country; the best that this country can give to us in terms of education, training, appointment and election; should be the ones to tell, educate and inform our less privileged brothers and sisters.

“But what are we doing? Some of us who have enjoyed all these privileges have now become priests and barons of division either on ethnic, religious, geographical or linguistic basis.

“What a shame! I believe that all of us, who got their feet in that special position of having education having benefited from all that this country can give to us in appointments, should do everything to enhance the unity, tranquility and the solidarity of this country.”

Obasanjo added that nobody should blame God if Nigeria failed as a country noting that nature had put Nigeria on the pathway of greatness.

He said he was better off in the Republic of Nigeria than he would have been in the Republic of Oduduwa insisting that unity and tolerance were the only fabric binding the country together.

An increasing area of Ijaw land are rendered useless because of the spoiling from oil fields, so where will they live in a few years. Even if they build a military on their land, it is too small. It would take up too much space. Where will the people that will be pushed out for room for the new military live? We Igbos don't rely on oil for survival, we rely on hard work. wink

This is to clarify things. We were sought for by the Ijaw's for help after yaradua gave the deadline of unleashing the full might of the law on the militants. The deadline I believe was October 4th. When that day did come most militants(MEND) gave up and gave up their arms at "accepted amnesty". If they would have refused they likely would have been destroyed.

Dokubo's Group Rejects Yar'Adua's Amnesty

Port Harcourt — The Niger Delta Peoples Salvation Front (NDPSF) headed by Alhaji Mujahid Asari Dokubo yesterday rose from its General Assembly in Golf Palace Hotel, Port Harcourt with a resolution to reject the amnesty offered by President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua.

The NDPSF said that since none of its members has been convicted of any criminal offence, there was no basis for them to accept the amnesty but however, condemned they, criminality in the Niger Delta region for which they said the amnesty was offered.

"There is no basis for accepting the amnesty as no member of the Niger Delta Peoples Salvation Front has been convicted for any criminal offence and therefore do not deserve amnesty," they said.

On his personal note, Asari said that amnesty will not usher in the expected peace since those who took guns for the protection of the region later turned them against the people they were supposed to protect.

"Amnesty will usher in open killings. You know that the people know those who killed their people, raped their women and girls and burnt their houses and in the name of amnesty you come and stay alive to enjoy the stolen loot. Despite the amnesty, there will be killings," he said.

In an apparent reference to the activity of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, which has been blowing up pipelines in the region, the group said they do not believe in destroying pipelines which also impact negatively on the environment, adding that what is destroyed in the environment cannot be repaired.

Asari said that when he rose up in arms against the oil companies in the region, without breaking pipelines, he was able to stop oil export and that no activity that tends towards polluting the environment would be approved by his group.

According to him, "when I travelled abroad each group I met on our predicament condemned the breaking of pipelines as they say that we are as guilty as the oil companies which destroy environments since we spill oil into it."

They insist we can advance our case without destroying the environment. We are strongly against the breaking of oil pipelines which destroy the environment".

The Assembly called for the withdrawal of the Joint Military Task Force from the region in addition to being made to account for the rights abuses they have visited on the people who they alleged were yet to be rehabilitated.

"The NDPSF demands for the immediate withdrawal of soldiers from the Niger Delta region. We also ask for the JTF to account for extra judicial execution of our people and raping of our daughters under the pretext of combating crime and also demand for the rehabilitation of our families and property destroyed. We condemn all criminal activities of some persons in the Niger Delta; such people that commit such offences as murder, kidnapping, arson, rape and such others as cannot consummate our aspiration", they said.

The group said they were stepping up their struggle through capturing political power from where they will push for total control of resources in the State of their control and vowed to get power by hook or crook in the 2011 polls.

Asari said they will adopt a political party which will only serve as a platform to attain power since their organisation; Peoples Salvation Force was refused registration in 2006. He further said they will field an Ikwerre person to wrest power from any party in power though he foreclosed the use of the Peoples Democratic Party for such aspirations.

They particularly condemned electoral bodies which subvert the will of the people by not making the votes of the people count and warned that they will not only resist any such future attempt but rise to fight it.

"We are organizing to take the political power. We have already asked people to start mobilizing at the grassroots in Rivers State. We shall meet in a General Assembly and pick the party to joint to achieve our goal. We shall field our candidates for all positions up for contest. If they want us to have a free and fair election, we will have it but if they want to play pranks with the election, we will play pranks. If they want it in magomago way we will be ready for them and if they want it in a clean way, we will be ready for them", he vowed.

On how to achieve the aim of the Niger Delta people, he canvassed for an alliance with Igbos who he said have the know-how, the population and zeal but not the resources for self determination.

He said he grew up being asked by his mother to hate Igbos but that it was not right since they were their next door neighbours and if one was not in good terms with his neighbours, he finds it difficult to win a war.

"Igbos are not our enemies, we need their number. If Biafra had won the war, we would not have been where we are now. We cannot win the war we are fighting without Igbos so we should reach out to them. We need their support.

"If the Igbos do not come to us, we will go to them, they are our neighbours and the people who put enmity between us and them are the problems that we are suffering from. We should make peace with them", he said.

Yerima Shettima, the Chairman of Arewa Forum in the region said it was wrong to group the North as an entity being against the interest of the South-South region but reminded the forum that the same cabal in power that impoverished the north more than the south was the cause of the problem.

He said there were many people that support the ideals of the region pointing out that he was arrested and detained for supporting the course. He advised the region not to be slack in their ways as the battles may soon be hotter since they were assured of victory in the end.

He condemned the position canvassed by Bala Ibn Na-Allah that the region was less than 20 million and should be done away with for peace to reign; pointing that if the same was said of the north, he would not like it

I am a Christian - a JUDEO-CHRISTIAN; i.e, the type Americans practice. If you want to be secure and live in peace, you must be better armed than your enemies. Simple.

Humans are animals with pretenses of decorum.
Remove the facade, and all you are left with is an ordinary animal. So, how can you expect an animal to understand that you are being peaceful because of God? He can't understand that. EVER.

So, be armed and be prepared to fight to death ALWAYS, else, humans would turn you into a subhuman.

So, there is no need to attack the whole Christian religion because some animals are running around killing women and children and demanding respect in return. All you need is make sure they never escaped. That's all.
Onlytruth, my brother, I am sorry for offending you. The point I was trying to make is that, and I can't be denied, is that christianity has weakened us. Instead of the aggressive war-like nature of our ancestors displayed when attacked all we do is find prayer as the answer to solve everything. This has caused us many lives. Did you see what happened in the area in Imo when they were attacked? They went on a prayer and fasting crusade for three days.smh. This is ridiculous.Whats going to stop them from doing it again if chance is given? Turning the cheek nonsense, gets you nowhere. You must attack and them secure ur grounds.

To be fair, cows are seen as a sign of status amongst many of Africa's nomadic tribes, from the Fulani to the Maasai, Samburu, Turkana etc. Many of these ethnic groups would kill someone over their cows, if they are not given money for their loss.

Seven Feared Killed In Fresh Benue Violence

Saturday, 12 February 2011 00:00 From Simeon Nwakaudu, Makurdi News - National

DESPITE the deployment of soldiers and mobile policemen to the hinterland of Gwer West local council, some suspected herdsmen continued armed attacks on farming communities in the area, killing about seven persons in early morning raids yesterday.

The herdsmen, who invaded Tyotegh ward in Gwer West Council of Benue State since last Monday, have been staging constant nocturnal attacks on farming villages in the area, where they have razed down more 100 homesteads and displaced over 20,000 villagers residing in 10 villages in the council.

Death toll in the conflict has risen to about 28 persons, with more than 300 persons critically injured, many with bullet wounds. Several women and girls in the area have also been allegedly raped by the invading bandits who over-powered the communities and confounded security agencies with their coordinated pattern of attack and retreat.

Thousands of farmers, women and children dislodged by the invasion in the area have been in camps in Naka and Kula towns. Some have been camped at Agagbe town.

A victim of the attack, Orshi Orduen, who is presently taking refuge at the Primary school camp in Naka, said that he saw several corpses before he fled the area, with some members of his family.

He said that the herdsmen also raped several women and girls on the fateful day. He noted that they were fully kitted in military fatigue and wore bulletproof vests for protection.

However, the Benue State Governor, Gabriel Suswam met with Fulani leaders in Makurdi on Thursday, pleading with them to prevail on the attackers to half their action.
Leader of Fulani in Benue State, Alhaji Ibrahim Gani told Suswam that the invaders were not residents of Benue State. He however said that he would contact the invaders to retreat.

Suswam later visited displaced persons in different camps in Naka and Kula. Soldiers have been deployed to protect the camps.

The governor announced that relief materials and water tankers would be sent to the camps at the weekend, while medical doctors and nurses have been directed to tend to the injured and sick.

When The Guardian visited the Naka camp yesterday, displaced persons claimed that they received information that the militiamen would strike in the heart of the camp at the weekend. Some were seen leaving the place in panic to put up with their relatives.

The conflict started last weekend after some farmers allegedly slaughtered the cattle of a herdsman in Tyotegh ward. After the killing of the cattle, herdsmen invaded the ward last Monday in retaliation and have since continued the onslaught for five consecutive days.

When Contacted, Benue State Police Commissioner, Ibrahim Mohammed confirmed the killings adding the Police Command was working hard to contain the crisis.

Christianity has pacified us. Our ancestors would not have allowed this abomination to occur on our land. However, the source of Fulani strength is their religious zeal. It is hard to defeat someone who is willing to die in the name of their religion. How do we even counter that?
The fulanis have always been warriors. Islam just made it worse. We Igbos can counter it with the snap of a finger, due to our war-like tempers and high ambitious personality. Once our mind is set to killing, our concern then is to get the job done completely and well. The thing that is stopping us is that useless false doctrine christianity.Pray while you are being slaughter the 'Nwa chuku n'igwe' will come to our aide. That is bullshit. The reason fulanis continue the way they do is because those weak attitude of folding your arms, praying, and doing nothing fuels them.

The Fulani are one of the most dangerous nomadic African ethnic groups. Second only to the Tuareg. Just look at how they control most of Northern Nigeria. Put this in perspective, they are only a minority in Nigeria, but they hold sway over most of the North and they have produce more Presidents than the Igbo or Yoruba combined.

There is something peculiar about this people. Maybe it is their religious zeal. I don't know, but it would seem they are quick to anger.
They are weak niggaz, if not for the curse of christianity other tribes in nigeria could have wiped them out. We've proved how weak they are during a fear battle already.

The reason why people clash with Fulanis is as a result of cultural misunderstanding. The Fulani culture believes that God created land and grasses for feeding the cattle hence they have no need to stay permanently at a place. They continue moving from place to place in search of greener pastures for their cattle. To them only God owns land and man has no need to acquire one for himself. Most indigenous Nigerian tribes value land and crops which is a sharp contrast with the Fulani who only value cattle.
God didn't give others the right to take another persons life because of cattle abi?

Herdsmen Kill 3 Farmers- cross river Jan 27 2011!!!

A clash between Fulani herdsmen and farmers, mostly youths in Asang Eniong village   in Odukpani Local Government Area of Cross River State has resulted in the death of  three of the farmers.

The herdsmen engaged the youths of the village in a fight Tuesday when the youths  told them to vacate their farmland where the herdsmen were grazing their cattle.

“We asked them to vacate the land as their cattle were destroying our crops but they  refused. Rather, they engaged us in a fight with machetes and killed three of our  members,” Etcheri Okokon, a youth leader in the village, told P.M.NEWS.

The youth leader gave the names of those killed as:  Samuel Ekanem, Ededem John and  Idarete Okon.

“The late Samuel was our youth leader.  He had seven children. He led us to meet  Alhaji Bature the head of the cattle rearers.  But when we got there Bature asked  Fulani people to attack us with machetes,” Okokon alleged.

He stated that the cattle rearers went ahead to ransack their village, causing them  to flee their homes.

He claimed that the police sent to the village did not arrest the herdsmen.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Cross River State Police Command, ASP Etim  Dickson said he was not aware of the incident.

However, another police source said eleven armed policemen have been drafted to the  place and advised the fleeing villagers to return to their homes.

Nigeria:Irete People Laud Goverment Intervention in Clash With Fulani HerdsmenThompson Anyadike

9 November 2009

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Owerri — PEOPLE of Umunwanlo village Irete in the Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State have lauded the intervention of the state government following last week's clash between the people and the Fulani cattle rearers who took their feeding flock into the people's farm lands and destroyed crops worth over N1.5 million.

Speaking to the Daily Champion shortly after a security meeting convened by the special adviser to Gov. Ikedi Ohakim on security matters Chief George Egu, chairman of the Irete Community Development Union (ICDU), Mr. C.N. Metu, said his people would abide by government's decisions and would not take the laws into their own hands.
According to him, government reminded the cattle rearers and owners that their areas of operation werethe Somachi Egbu road, Obinze and Okigwe, adding that the animals should be confined, and any violation of the order or any cattle found roaming inside the towns, villages would be seized and the reares or owners brought to the government house.

The lawyer maintained that his people would not take vengeance as government has genuinely intervened but regretted that similar situations have occurred severally in the past and on each occasion authorities shied away as complaints fall on deaf ears.

Meanwhile, normalcy has returned to the area but due to the damaged cassava, yam, vegetable, melon, garden eggs farms, prices of food stuffs have risen in the area as the indigenes and tenants are predominantly farmers. Also speaking, a community leader in the area Hon Chinedu Akowuba urged Imo government to find a lasting solution to the perpetually recurring problems created by the Fulani herdsmen lamenting that his people over the years have suffered terribly and have always recorded painful losses.
He regretted that most women of the area who were violated by  the cattle rearers in the past died due to one disease or the other, adding that his people are not afraid of the vandals but for the respect for the law.

Daily champion also gathered that women of the area who went to farm to discovered the herdsmen with over 200 cows inside their farm land, they ran back to inform the men and they were chased away.

Incidentally according to my source the vandals barely after 24 hours besieged the area again with over 500 cows and brandishing guns, arrows, knives and other dangerous objects and incidentally one Emmanuel was killed, Onyebuchi was badly injurred while many others were wounded during the encounter.

On whether the community seized any cow, my source said no, adding that the herdsmen flee after causing the problem.

Meanwhile, government has mandated the Seriki Hausa who owns the cattle to produce the herdsmen within four days or be held responsible.
Unfortunately they bring nonsense to every part of nigeria.
