DavidD... "our attitude has always remained the reason nigeria has failed to progress over the years." True.. but would you or wouldn't you say that there has been a steady improvement over the past couple of years... ?? ![]() how many of those foreigners are economic refugees here? how many of them have adopted nigerian citizenship? You'd really be suprised.. Do a little bit of research.. the results might impress you.. nigerians abroad are mainly economic refugees and illegal residents! .. Now this is a fallacy of the highest order.. I don't know why you have this impression; but please.. it's not true.. If you want some facts, just contact the various Nigerian cultural groups worldwide, even in the US where u live.. We can't allow a few bad apples spoil the whole bunch.. please in the socalled countries were the standard is adjudged to be higher, please might i ask WHY their standard is that high and ours is low? are they from mars? do they have three heads? when are we going to function at the same standard? in 400 years time at this rate? Please, if I may ask.. How old is Nigeria as a country?.. How old are these countries we are referring to ??.. Did they get to their present state over night ... If such countries were to perform to the standard which Nigeria performs at presently, wouldn't you definitely say that something is wrong somewhere ?.. Nigeria as a country and political entity has gone though a lot of political experimentation and development (this is the 4th time we've taken a stab at a functional democratic process, with countless interuptions by the military).. Since our leaders have refused to learn from the best practices of other places with better systems of governance, we can only develop at our own rate, and hope that with time, experience will be the best teacher.. Not to say that even in these "so-called" developed countries, things are exactly peachy.. Believe me, even in Nigeria's present backward state, it does have a lot to offer to the more "developed" societies of the world.. In terms of humaneness and morality.. I'm happy we agree on one thing though.. "our concern right now shld be less on the alledged porosity of the UK borders but on how Obasanjo's 6yr attempt at laundering our image abroad has been destroyed by the selfish and criminal act of a governor!" |
... Oh, someone's now really in for it.. The boy don step up im game, and fear don dey catch the babe.. Is someone "growing up"?? ![]() On a different note though... I'm curious about something.. What would you believe a "fit" environment for the child to be brought up in should be?? ![]() Most of the arguments have been from the points of view of the parents... what of from the children's stand/view point?? ![]() allonym: |
Regarding the Tafa case, I agree 6 months is puny compared with the volume of cash he was alleged to have ripped-off.. I guess the prosecution didn't make a very good case during the trial.. Another perspective is that Tafa's case was a case of embezzlement... I guess he was not directly accused of taking a life or any other capital crime, hence the lack of severity of his sentence.. I hope he's made to forfeit his illegally acquired assets before he comes out of prison.. |
The situation to the best of my understanding is this: As an elected official of the Government of Bayelsa state, he is safe-guarded by the Constitution of the State, as well as the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.. [the Immunity clause] To constitutionally remove him, he must first be stripped of official designation..[Impeachment] then he can be prosecuted as a mere citizen of the country.. liable the laws of the Federal Republic.. Just like the Ade Bendels, the Fred Ajuduas, etc.. Hope this clears things up.. If I've left anyone out, please enlighten us further.. donnie: |
Ha ha ha ha ha ha.. he he he hehe.. Otokxx... You are HILARIOUS ! ! ! ! ! ! ![]() otokx: |
You know what.. I'll try to address your points one at a time.. 1. please do not misquote me! i do not have a personal axe to grind with mr president! 2. you really make me want to ask if u live in nigeria at all! if the police system in the UK is porous, what will you call the police system in nigeria if we have one at all? is it not common knowledge that criminals from niger come through our nonexistent borders everyday to perpetuate crimes? has any been caught? how many criminals and crooks pass through our borders everyday without our knowledge? do we pretend to have any borders at all save the one we share with benin or togo? at least the UK authorities have authoritatively told us they have alami's escape on security camera, can we explain how alami came through our own borders? how did alami pass through our airport or seaport without the knowledge of any nigerian security official? please let us solve our own problems before we start blaming others. You claim that you have no personal axe to grind with the President, yet the tone of your original post indicated otherwise.. that not withstanding, even if the occurences of the terrorist attacks are "few and far between", should they occur at all??.. Not that these countries bring or invite such on themselves, but that since these have occured, security has allegedly been tightened up.. so, for there to be a laspe to the extent that Guv. Alams was able to locate a loop-hole and exploit it to the extent that he's back in Nigeria (jumping bail in the process), there must be something seriously wrong with the system.. We're not saying here that Nigeria is better, but theirs shouldn't bad, for the so-called level of their advancement and sofistication.. As a very weak analogy, the fact that I can't play football very well does not mean that I won't appreciate the skills of Ronaldinho on the ball.. ![]() These priorities you refer to?.. Could you please expantiate further??.. because to me the main issue here is the bringing to justice of the man who ripped off and defrauded his people.. Not whether or not our ham-strung police force and judiciary can effectively function with the crippling conditions they have to operate in today.. 3. If we were a serious nation, why shld our citizens comprise "a great number" of foreign visitors to other nations? how many foreigners come to visit our country every yr. if the lives of nigerians are now at stake because of porous UK borders, it is hard to convince me that they will be any safer in THEIR OWN COUNTRY what with horrible roads, tokunbo aircraft, poor runways, nonexistent rail and water transportation systems, armed robbers, police to name a few! I'm sorry, but since when has having Nigerians visit other countries (for whatever reason) been a crime ! ! ! ![]() How does even the fact that we have a lot of Nigerians in diaspora (making sojourns for whatever reason they choose to) reflect on the serious of the nation?? .. You yourself, if I'm not mistaken are resident in the United States.. Would it be right, fair or correct for the government of that country to deny you a safe environment to live, because u are a guest there and not a citizen I agree with you on one thing though.. we should be realistic.. For your information, we do have quite a large international community in Nigeria.. and a reciprocal responsibility to ensure the safety and security of the lives of these international community in Nigeria, just as they have a reciprocal responsibility to ensure the safety and security of the lives of Nigerians living in their own country.. the issues here remain the same as stated above.. Yes, in Nigeria, everything isn't perfect.. But in countries, where the standard is adjudged to be higher, they are obliged to perform to the higher standard.. So, lets stop comparing Nigeria with other countries, until we can function at the same level or standard.. ps... And the name's CimonJorr.. please stand corrected.. ![]() davidylan: |

Nigerians are truly wonderful people... A man has committed a grevious offense.. By all indications, he's done more to show his guilt than his innocence.. But are we truly interested in the person answering for his crimes??.. NO ! ! ! ! ! ..... Instead, we fight someone else who we feel should be held accountable for the "woes" of the alleged criminal... Through out this, I have not seen one word against what this man has done.. Despite the best efforts of people.. and the media.. to highlight his numerous offenses... Even if the President is not in your personal good books, does that make the things done by this individual right?.. does it make his conduct and actions correct??... davidylan:What would it take for you to be convinced that this person has done wrong?? .. that he has committed one of the highest crimes possible against his own people?? .. Was it victimization and conspiracy that put the money into his brief case while travelling?? .. Or placed the money into his house?? .. Or opened the numerous bank accounts or acquired all these companies and property .. Or engaged in the general looting and deprivation of the state ...otokx:As is expected, Nigerians have started to loose focus on the main issues at stake... If the Police system of a country like the UK is so porous as to allow any criminal abscond, the lives of their own citizens are at stake, talkless of those of visitors to their country (of which Nigerians do comprise a great number).. We don't have to look far to remember how many Nigerians died on sept 11 or July 7, or the other numerous terrorist attacks.. No matter your personal griviances against the President, I advise that we don't loose sight of the real issues at stake here.. When the Nigerian constitution came up for review on numerous occasions, I didn't hear the clamour for the removal of the immunity clause, or the introduction of any clause supporting prosecution of those in power for financial misdemeanours.. Yet, all I can hear above is that OBJ is responsible for the woes of the Bayelsa state Governor.. Like as if, he's the one who told the man to go and steal.. And for those still not satisfied with the benefits of the Presidents international trips and presence, I'd pose this question.. If Nigeria became and remained a pariah state, minimizing it's international exposure, would we have ever gotten any form of debt relief?.. Or inflow of international development??... or attention at all .. Yes, the man galivants.... but hey, we're seeing something to show for it anyway... It's not like as if at the end of the day, there was absolutely no result.. As I said before.. Nigerians are truly wonderful people.... ![]() |
General question to all.. ![]() Why would or should someone be worried about how they compare to someone's past lovers?.. If you're in love with the person, and if the person is in love with you, and both of you are in a loving relationship (without the other partner jumping around), why would this be of any importance, relevance or significance??.. Isn't this just a case of giving yourself grey hairs over nothing..?? ![]() Quote from: Makeda on November 26, 2005, 07:08 AM |
To me the issue isn't one of complaint, but a case of experience vs. inexperience.. People have been advocating for experience (in sexual matters).. Some have been advocating for the very opposite.. Both sides have presented their arguments.. But I'm simply trying to point out here that experience still factors into her situation.. To quote a friend of mine who had make-up sex with her husband some time back and shared her experience with me.. "I didn't know that there were alternatives to the 'straight' sex..(missionary style) " [Not her words exactly, I had to modify it a bit for the pusposes of this post.. ]Now she has learnt that there exist other alternatives.. this she learnt from her husband, who was more experienced than her sexually.. The above is simply an illustration, but points out that sexual experience still factors into the equation... |
Aburo, Permit me to say this, but ur "sweeter than the conventional lovey-dovey thin" relationship you have with these girls is nothing more than a platonic relationship.. This is from your own end I believe, cos I've quite sure the girls in question either feel like they are your only or "main" girlfriend; or they're simply going to mark time till someone who is more certain of the kind of relationship they (that person) wants comes along.. Not to subtract from your level of relationship with these girls, but if the truth be said, it is not possible to share your heart (affection, time, etc) equally among all these women.. The end result is that some of them are going to make more demands from you than you'd be willing to commit to.. and I don't mean sex here.. there are different levels of intimacy, and this can't be equally shared among all these women-folk.. Women are by nature possesive, and don't like to share.. When they finally catch up to your "game" I truly wonder where the cards will fall.. if they'd be content with the status quo, or if they'd issue you ultimatums.. that u make one of them your main babe, or that they should bounce.. Bottom line bro.. Ignorance is Bliss, then comes reality.. layi: |
Maybe not this time.. ![]() With all the forces at work, this is beginning to look like a movie/soap opera.. Would have been quite the telly program, if not for the fact that this is a real life situation, and there is actually the risk of loss of human life.. |

Sorry to rain on someone's parade... And please, this has absolutely no reference to your religious bias, so please don't be offended by my observation.. But in this case, you already know what you want/like... It's just that your man may not know how to give that to you.. So, the experience factor still comes into the equation.. in a manner of speaking, you are "disvirgining" him.. ![]() Makeda: Quote from: Makeda on November 26, 2005, 07:08 AM |

otokx:It is common practice in Law, especially international law, for the accused to me taken to the place of commission of a crime for trial.. So, trust me, there is nothing out of place in him being transported back to the UK (the place of commision of his crime), if and when he can be made into a mere citizen again.. So far, he has not been accused of being in breach of Nigerian Laws, just the laws of the UK.. Maybe when he can be made into an ordinary citizen again, he may be accused of being in breach of Nigerian laws.. but for now, this will just have to do.. ![]() |

The Nigerian constitution (and indeed most constitutions all over the world) allow for some cadres of public servants to be immune from legal proceedings to allow them carry out their job functions more effectively... Some countries grant it to diplomatic staff from other countries as a matter of international courtesy and diplomacy.. In Nigeria, the facility has been seriously abused by some people (using this to misbehave while in office, since they can't be prosecuted while in office).. You have to read through all the associated posts, and this one in particular to get the whole gist.. ocho: |
And my nomination for[b] the most embarassing quote of the year [/b] is.... "For 65 days or so I found myself in the wilderness of foreign restrictions and torment. Sweetie... Me saying that the individual should get a life pertains more to the fact that he's worrying his head off about what he obviously couldn't change (even if he wanted to) if he were in that circumstance.. Let me break it down.. Why should he bother his head with what his girlfriend or wife did in a relationship ages before she agreed to date/marry him, when obviously she isn't in a relationship with anyone else but him at the moment.. If that were his main concern before going into a relationship, he should have subjected her to an interview before starting anything with her, as well as build a dossier and give it to the SSS for further investigation.. What anyone does in a previous life or relationship is just that.. something done previously.. here we are not querrying the woman's fidelity (or lack thereof) but what he would be bothering his mind about.. (ie. the fact that she could have given head to a guy she was dating previously / recieved head from one of her ex's).. Do you understand now .. ps.. would u date a guy who had a complex about people u've been in relationships with prior to dating him.. to me this smacks of insecurity and a lack of self-belief.. my views only.. I'm sorry to say that I just got this information via txt from Nigeria.. Not because I don't follow the news, but because for the last couple of days I've been running helter-skelter trying to get some things sorted out... When I finally got to the BBC news website, and read the article.. I must confess.. I became SAD... Really really SAD.. I wouldn't go as far as saying on the verge of Depression.. but pushed to the limit.. really at the limit.. To the sychophants who welcomed the b@$tard back, I can only wish them well.. I wonder how much they would have been individually paid to come and partake in the "jamboree".. they must have all been wondering why there had been no money from the state for the last couple of weeks.. To those on this forum congratulating the man for getting home, well.. I guess they'd all better send the guy emails for their "personal invitations" to join in... I'm sure the guy must be in such a good mood at this coup d'etat [after all, he was once in the military, wasn't he..] that he would definitely be in a giving mood.. To those who are waiting on the Nigerian government to do something.. I pity them.. If they had the most basic knowledge of the Nigerian constitution; or even if they had been following the posts on Nairaland so far, they should have come to the realisation that the guy is "home free"... there's nothing that can be done to him now.. In Nigeria, he has Constitutional Immunity.. IRREVOCABLE....From arrest.. from investigation.. from prosecution (and persecution for that matter).. from anything (but a $nipper's bu!!et or the call of the Lord).. To me, once the dust has settled down, guess who's going to be at the forefront of pushing for a 3rd term.. or alternatively, moving into another Immune position of political influence.. No one takes my 1 Pound for the correct answer to that question.. I guess he's just going to wait it out the Political Tsunami he's just caused, and hope that time will either erase it from people's minds or lessing the empathy which he's caused by his actions, both locally and internationally.. To me, I agree with the people who say that the innocent ones are now going to bear the brunt of someone's anger.. I just pray it isnt't a mere mortal like me.. To the airline which carried him in the first instance.. they should be prosecuted with the fullest extent of the law.. both internationally and within Nigeria.. this is the height of lackadasicality and irresponsibility.. to imagine the ammount of debaseness with which they harrass and embarrass innocent Nigerians, and then this happens.. I wonder when we will finally find out which one actually carried him.. I wonder if they'll plead that they did not know.. or if they'll say he had "legitimate" travelling documents on him.. Probably "genuine" documents made at the Bayelsa State Immigrations Command... To those that wonder at the timing of the "escape".. if they've been following the political developments in the Bayelsa state, they'll know that he had no other choice if he wanted to remain the state governor.. His political machine was being dismantled piece by piece.. his hench men in the state house of assembly (the speaker and deputy speaker) had just been removed, the Deputy Governor was being prevailed upon to resume the full duties of becoming an Acting Governor (and needless to say that he was seriously thinking of becoming the Acting Governor, both for the interest of the state, which had slumped into executive & legislative doldrums, and his own interests as well...) till tomorow, it will not take a rocket scientist to determine why a governor who purportedly sent a letter to the state house of assembly requesting for a 120 day leave of absence did not deem his deputy fit to stand in his place for the period when he would have been away... To me, it wasn't pressures from the British Police which would have made him jump bail.. but the thought of his Power base at home erroding.. Because in the final analysis, that really is his main concern.. His own personal self interest and survival.. The same instincts which can make a man keep up to 1 million UK Pounds Sterling in his personal residence without fear or favour.. *man.. I have a headache.. I'm going for a bottle of Star... not more than one.. not less than one.. just one.. *I wonder when they'll make a movie out of this.. this is as good a material as any I've seen in recent times...* |

!! Never saw that one coming when I began to pray for a husband and sould mate. But I am happy and satified and best of all he loves me for who I am just the way I am.
