PoliticsRe: Are Hausas Still The Largest Tribe In Naija? by cjrane: 3:52am On Sep 16, 2012
Hausa was NEVER the largest group in Nigeria. They just thrive on the confusion and falsification of every data in Nigeria and the refusal to put ethnic origin in the census form. It is all about justifying why they should corner the lion share of the Niger Delta resources.
PoliticsRe: Gen. Gowon interviewed hours after surrender of Biafra; he blames Ojukwu for war by cjrane: 3:03am On Sep 16, 2012
Obasanjo is a founding "MEMBER" OF TI. That also did not mean he was not roundly very corrupt as Nigeria's president. He claimed his chickens laid $250 million dollars worth of eggs.Which we all know is as false as it sounds. He could not account for $16 billion dollars he has spent in shady national power projects dirty deals. His own Vice President Atiku, exposed how he abused the PDF as a toll to fund his personal projects. But, in spite of all his corruptions and abuse of office, OBJ was less corrupt than Abacha or Babangida.

GenBuhari: ^That is why this thread is based almost entirely on foreign news stories.
Where is the news stories from BBC or CNN etc that indicated mindless corruption during the Abacha era?

Please you need to disregard anything published by Transparency International about Abacha, as Obasanjo founded Transparency International which is why it criticises Abacha, but has never criticised Obasanjo's corruption and evil deeds.
"Where is the news stories from BBC or CNN etc that indicated mindless corruption during the Abacha era?"
"Please you need to disregard anything published by Transparency International"

Statements like this make Nigerians appear fraudulent. How can you base facts on BBC or CNN? Are you serious? So if CNN or BBC does not report something in Nigeria, it didn't happen? Transparency International was not founded by Obasanjo. He was one of the early facilitators of its take off.Go and do a proper research. Indeed, Obasanjo had been indicted for not fighting corruption in Nigeria by the same agency that rated Nigeria the second most corrupt country in Africa in 2005.

I don't want to argue about the dead, but you can try to argue that Abacha or Mobutu were saints. It is your own opinion, and you have every right to it.

Where is the evidence/news stories that indicate the "mindless corruption" you refer to during Abacha years? undecided
Abach ruled with such terror that no Nigerian press dared to publish anything about his corrupt practices. Didn't mean he had none.
International anti-corruption watch dog, transparency International published his name as the 4th most corrupt dictator in the world.

Box 1.1: Where did the money go?
Table 1.1 illustrates the scale of the problem of alleged political corruption through
estimates of the funds allegedly embezzled by some of the most notorious leaders of the
last 20 years. To put the figures in context, the right-hand column gives the GDP per capita

The 10 leaders in the table are not necessarily the 10 most corrupt leaders of the period
and the estimates of funds allegedly embezzled are extremely approximate. The table is
drawn from respected and widely available sources. In general, very little is known about
the amounts allegedly embezzled by many leaders.

This led to the students of University of Benin riots in which Abacha instead of proving his innocence, used brutal military crack down on the kids.We have since known that he stole more than $5 billion dollars from Nigeria. For that, it is very difficult to call Abacha a Nigerian hero.
PoliticsRe: Gen. Gowon interviewed hours after surrender of Biafra; he blames Ojukwu for war by cjrane:
GenBuhari: @cjrane,
I like your analysis.
What do you make of the Abacha years?
GenBuhari,
Abacha was a force to hold the country together after Babangida almost provoked a civil war. So initially, Abacha was a force for good. Unfortunately, absolute power corrupted Abacha so much that he was tempted to repeat all Babangida's mistakes. From mindless corruption to attempting to convert himself into a civilian President. But unlike Babangida that escaped with his life, he was not so lucky.

It is obvious that the true Gen M. Buhari of CPC is a true patriotic Nigerian. Unfortunately, he too was unable to rise above religious sentiments by promptly condemning Islamic radicals that killed other Nigerians after he was declared the loser of 2011 presidential elections.Nigerians would prefer to be ruled by a politician of questionable means than a religious fanatic. Notice the tendency of Nigerians to vote en mass for men with percieved questionable means of livelihood or poor intelligence but who have moderate religious views like Alhaji Shehu Shagari and Moshood Abiola.
Gen. M. Buhari would have been a great President for Nigeria if he had promptly condemned those who killed in his name. By the time he was convinced to condemn the religious violence,it was too late to redeem his non-religious bias image. Again he could have embarked on a national reconciliation tour and worked towards building the trust of the Christians and southern Nigerians.

The oil wells being used now is definitely well inside Anambra territory. But the expanse of the oil field strays slightly into Enugu, and Kogi. It is clearly a case of bad belle or jealousy for Kogi to claim that the present oil wells are owned by them. So why didn't they make the stupid claim since, until GEJ confirmed for himself that Anambra was an oil bearing state?
Aguleri-Otu had always been a part of Anambra and Eastern Nigeria. Indeed, some people from that part of the state had lived so much in peace with the neighboring Igala clans for centuries. All that will soon change.

That's very good. Nigeria should learn from Ethiopia. While Ethiopia airlines is rapidly expanding, Nigerian airways left her passengers stranded in England and then suddenly stopped operation until further notice. Nigeria we hail!
Nigeria is a by-word for failure. Nigeria cannot learn from Ethiopia because Nigerian leaders prefer stolen money to money made from legitimate work.

Babangida'a acceptance of the IMF loan through the back door and consequently the devaluation of the naira opened the devil's door to most of the mess we see now in Nigeria. Unfortunately, the ill advised devaluation of the Naira has continued until this day with the current CBN Governor Mallam Lamido Sanusi printing of outrageous huge bills such as N5,000 naira notes to make the naira more worthless. It is a shame that such once promising country was brought to its kness by corrupt managers of its resources.

PoliticsMake The Six Geopolitical Sub-regions Nigeria's Federating Units?. by cjrane(op): 3:12pm On Sep 08, 2012
Yoruba leaders under the umbrella of the Yoruba General Assembly held a one day conference in Ibadan, Oyo state today with a demand for regional autonomy for the Southwest within the precincts of true federalism in Nigeria.

Beside canvassing for state police, return to parliamentary system, abolition of Land Use Decree, regional constitutions and role for traditional rulers, the Assembly also resolved to set up the Southwest Constitutional Commission “for the purpose of coordinating memoranda from citizens and groups in the region towards a federal constitution for the country and of producing a constitutional framework for the region as a unit of the Nigerian federation”.

Other demands of the Yoruba listed by the gathering, include the adoption of parliamentary system, regional and state police, establishment of a Constitutional Court with jurisdiction over inter-governmental cases and petitions from elections to the National assembly, open ballot system, Yoruba anthem and flag.

The representative of Yoruba in Kwara and Kogi states, Ayo Abereoran, demanded for the creation of a separate state for the Yoruba in the two states to accommodate 14 Yoruba councils in Kwara and Kogi states, adding that the new state should be part of the Southwest geo-political zone, following the restructuring of the polity.

“Grouping with the North has separated Yoruba in kwara and kogi from their kith and kin is the Southwest and this has retarded the progress and development of Yoruba in those states. State creation have made Okun Yoruba in Kogi and Yoruba in Kwara to become more weakened, despite the fact that Yoruba occupied 12 councils and have the largest population in Kwara State.

“Willinkson Committee recommended that the people of Kabba and Ilorin Provinces can decide whether they can remain in the North or become part of the Southwest. They said they wanted to become part of the west, butbit was not implemented. We want self-determination and correction to the geographical imbalance and erroneous boundaries created by Lord Lugard”, he stated.

In their own position paper, governors of South-West states allayed the fear of the antagonists of the creation of state police, saying that there would be constitutional provisions that would guide against abuse of the security outfit.

The views of the governors were articulated by Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State, while speaking at the 2012 Yoruba Assembly held at the Oyo State House of Assembly, Ibadan.

According to the governors, as long as there were laws guiding the operations of state police, those who have expressed their opposition to it should be assured that it would not be subjected to abuse.

Governor Ajimobi stressed the need for Yoruba to be more aggressive in the fight against marginalization and to be more united, adding “the problem we are facing is the uncooperative attitude among the Yoruba.

“We must all fight for the course of the Yoruba. We need to be more aggressive. The late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo was so bold and courageous in his fight against marginalization and in ensuring the progress and development of the Yoruba nation.

“It is unfortunate that we Yoruba, who used to be preoccupied with the progress of our race, have now deviated. What we are more concerned about nowadays is acquisition of wealth and material things. This is why we have found ourselves in the present situation.

“The course of the Yoruba should not be politicized. We may not all be in the same political party but our goals and aspirations should be for the progress and development of the race. The issue is majority in unity. If we are all united, things will definitely change for the better for us in Yorubaland,’’ he said.

The governor appealed to Yoruba elders not to rest on their oars but that they should show more concern for the emancipation of Yorubaland “so that we can put an end to the issue of marginalization in the scheme in Nigeria’’.

In his welcome address, the Convener of the Assembly, General Alani Akinrinade (Rtd.) said that the forum was called to reflect on how to make Nigeria conducive to the development of Yoruba civilization.

“Today’s meeting is not to do or say anything that will detract from the unity of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. It is intended to allow us, as Yoruba sons and daughters all over the federation, to rub minds on the way out of the country’s crippling under-development, with special emphasis on the parlous state of affairs in the South-West,’’ he said.

Other speakers at the occasion, including former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Dimeji Bankole, Osun State Deputy Governor, Mrs. Titi Laoye-Tomori, Chief Niyi Akintola, SAN and some traditional rulers, all spoke on the need for unity among the Yoruba in order to address the issue of the marginalization and under-development of the Yoruba race.

In a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting, the Assembly expressed the regret that Nigeria was at a crossroads after more than 50 years of independence and less than two years short of 100 years after the 1914 amalgamation.

The assembly attributed the failure of the Nigerian federation to meet the challenges of building a modern multi-ethnic democratic state to some factors including absence of a negotiated constitution by citizens, existence of a constitution that erodes the pre-military federal character of the Nigerian state, political and bureaucratic corruption as well as the menace of religious and cultural intolerance.

It also expressed concern over the commencement of cash-less policy in Lagos State while living out equally vibrant commercial centres such as Kano, Onitsha and Port Harcourt, adding “making Lagos a guinea pig of this policy amounts to a deliberate attempt to ruin the base of Yoruba economy’’.

The Yoruba, who viewed the Boko Haram menace as a sign of religious and cultural intolerance capable of destroying the unity of the country, said that the insurgency of the Islamist organization should not be settled by security forces but at a national conference designed to restructure the federation.

The Assembly expressed full support for the on-going regional integration in the South-West, canvassing that the Yoruba as an ethnic group should design and produce a common flag and anthem without prejudice to the anthems and flags of each state.

It does not matter if you are muslim or christian. Afterall, not all muslims are terrorists.
I do think southerners understand the north more than the northerners understand themselves nor southerners. The average northerner walks around with a feeling of entitlement, while the average southerner walks around with a feeling of hope in his hardwork.
The north of Nigeria has one of the most fertile soil in the world. Most food grown in Nigeria like cassava, yam, corn, sorghum, cotton, groundnut, onions, tomatoes, mellon etc grow fantastically in the north. Yet, drive from Maiduguri to kano, to Abuja and all you see is very poor villages with so much fallow land around them!!! They are sitting right there with fertile land that can make them so rich, but they are fighting for other peoples' oil and starving!!! Until the north understand that what would create wealth would be to develop her God given resources instead of inflating national vital statistics data in order to unfairly steal other region's resources, the north shall remain a poor and desolate place.

Boko Haram boys need to teach the stupid northern elites in ACF a good lesson. These were the same ex-dictators and politicians that had the opportunity to create jobs in the north by making use of the massive land resources and establishing commercial farms and the agricultural produce processing factories. But they chose to steal the money and deposit in their Swiss banks. After,2011 elections they decided to bring a little of that money and import weapons and share these weapons out to the very youths they impoverished by their greed, and ask them to blow things up,so that they can have a chance to go back into government and loot more. What Injustice !

This post was quoted on ghanaweb narrating about how criminal the Nigerians are backing this claim by providing statistics without due reference. I would like to remit this. In its prison statistics from 2002 (the latest I could find online) people can check this on page 134: http://www.archive2.official-documents.co.uk/document/cm59/5996/5996.pdf.
There you will find that in 2002 there was 100 Ghanaian and 265 Nigerians. Compare that with population size 24 million in Ghana and 158 million in Nigeria (World Bank, 2010), and you see that for every one million Ghanaians, there are 4.17 Ghanaians looked up in UK prisons, compared to only 1.68 Nigerians per one million. What does that tell us? That Ghanaians staying in the UK have a higher propensity to commit a crime liable to imprisonment.

Of course some Ghanaian is likely to respond that the Nigerians are using fake Ghanaian passports. Well, Ghanaians like using the identity of Sierra Leoneans and Liberians to apply as asylum seekers. It's all the same. undecided
I didn't know Ghanians had such hatred for Nigeria until i visited Takoradi,Ghana last week. I think Nigeria should start making preparations to deport all those illegal Ghanians in Naija. They are just very mean hearted, wicked and jealous group

omasogood: Has anyone thought about this, majority of the kidnap victims would have either done 419,FRAUD,stolen money from the government, sold illegal drugs, fake medicine, underpaid their employees & possibly even kidnapped others,I maybe wrong but the word "naija" seems to be synonymous with the saying,"what goes around comes around"

I'm saying all this because all over the world kidnappers target mostly the rich who they believe are the cause of their inability to access wealth & rich folk don't help by continuously widening the gap between rich & poor, year in year out
For kidnapping & other crimes to stop the black on black crime curse must be broken on all sides rich & poor & only the government of today headed by our dear 5000 naira note supporter aka "jonashoes subsidyluck" can get the ball rolling to break this curse, also the story of wooley lynch, the slave master from 100s of years ago who introduced the divide & rule strategy to his fellow white folk needs to be given worldwide publicity so that black folk will realise why they never work together like the asians & instead prefer to kill each other & covet each others' property & money
You have a criminal mind. "Majority" of kidnap victims aren't even rich. They may merely have a rich relative or brother who doesn't even give him a penny, but who the kidnappers believe will pay a ransom for his relative's life.
