Results are out!I have posted my assessments below of each person's contribution. Sadly, I could not find one essay without significant grammatical errors. You guys should have done better with QC'ing your entry before submission. Anyways, results of the winners will be posted later in the day. Watch this thread. If you submitted an essay and your name is not here, then you very likely did not follow instructions by posting a summary of your essay on this thread. Feedback Addme ==> Poor grammatical structure. Sometimes off point |
chieni:You know, I have a life too, right? And can get busy too, right? Anyways, follow the main thread where I announced the scholarship. You will see the right dates there. Details and instructions are clearly stated there. And next time, be brave enough to post with your real account. I don't bite. ![]() |

GiftedTitty:The topic about which is better between R and Python is an oft discussed one. But the general consensus is that one is not better than the other. You heard right. R is very suited for statisticians. In fact, if you are going to be doing mostly statistical analysis, R should be your go- to language. Python can simply not do the things R would do for you in one line of code. However, if you are going to be doing core programming/ intense ML, Python may be your go-to mainly because of the many open-source libraries, e.g. tensorflow. Some of the things tensorflow can do, R cannot even smell. At least not at this time. If you want to be a good data scientist, you should learn both R and Python. Then you'll use the applicable one at each time. These are mostly my opinions, but I'd say it's the general consensus. Meanwhile, I offer private tutoring on data science. I teach R, Python, and statistical analysis. Anyone who needs my service can reach out. Regarding my credentials: I work as a senior data scientist and hold graduate degrees in statistics from some of the top universities in the world. My private tutoring is paid though. |
Additional submissions: AlexaonfleekThis has officially ended now. Results will be published between 15th and 17th of May. Goodluck ![]() 1. If your name is not listed on the first post, you have not been entered in this competition. 2. If you haven't sent ID, please do. I may be reaching out between now and 15th to reconfirm each person's ID. |

So far, we have submissions from those listed below. - If you know you've submitted and your handle is not listed here, that could mean you haven't put a summary on this thread. So, please quote this post and include your summary, or direct me to where you've put your summary. - If you are on this list and haven't sent your student ID, please do. Otherwise, you haven't officially entered this competition. - If you are here and your submission has nothing to do with the two proposed topics, then it's also invalid and will eventually be disqualified. - Tomorrow remains last day of submission Lima98 Alexaonfleek |
Kbrule:The Google course is a good start. You just need to keep learning and to improve your skills. If you have PR through Express entry, then it may be a better idea to do a diploma in Canada that earns you an advantage towards applying for a masters in the same University. This will be overall cheaper for you and if your final destination is Canada, Canadian recruiters will be more familiar with your University. If you don't have PR, then I think it may be better to go for a UK masters over a Canadian certificate as it may come to the same cost. At the end of the day, your objective is to simply advance your knowledge, which if you do well will earn you a job easily. Also look at your personal situation and see what is overall more comfortable for you. |
Kbrule:If I were you, I'll start with the question: do you want to educate yourself or do you just want a job? If all you want is a job, then you may not need a masters. It may take a while, but you'll get a job. You just need to be persistent. You could start firstly with networking on LinkedIn, so that you are more visible to recruiters when they search. Then you may want to focus on certifications like the CBAP, if business analytics is more what you are interested in. Then go hard with looking for a job by submitting hundreds of applications. There are a lot of openings for business analytics and even more on data analyst roles. It may take a while, but you will eventually get a job, provided you get those certifications and you are good at data analysis. You could also search for preliminary certifications issued by Microsoft and IBM, etc. in data analysis. These will bolster your applications and may help you secure a job. I say this because you shouldn't expect to find studying in Canada easy. It is often much more difficult than Nigerian students anticipate. Most Nigerian students are not equipped well enough in Nigeria to study abroad. It can often get very frustrating and tedious. You have to be sure you want to do this, so that when you finish you don't feel like it was a waste of time and effort. If you are convinced and you really want to educate yourself, then you could consider going back to school. Starting with a certificate could be a good thing and you could put that on your CV while applying for a masters degree. Many of the universities offer these kinds of co-op or certificate programs which you can apply for and easily get into. These are however not as difficult as the masters program. It may be easier to get into a business analytics masters than it is to get into a data science masters. The latter is more competitive. You may also just consider masters in computer science or statistics which cover pretty much the same syllabus, though on a more fundamental level. If you have PR, it won't be a waste of money as you'll be paying a fraction of international student cost. And in some schools like University of Calgary, I think, getting the diploma in data science may improve your chances of getting admitted into their masters program. There are a few schools like that. Now, you may also want to keep in mind that while having a masters degree may improve your chances of getting a job, it doesn't automatically guarantee you a job. In fact, you may be surprised that some of your friends who don't do the masters end up with good or better jobs. You just have to ask yourself why you are taking the masters in the first place. One thing the masters may fetch you is more interviews. But you still need to be very good at data analysis tools e.g. SQL, because the interviews will test you on this. |
All, Please make sure to put a summary here. Otherwise I may not be able to track your submission in my email. I need to tie those who have submitted to those who sent emails. I get several emails. |
Hunter102:Choose delayed gratification. Take the scholarship. |
captainbangz:It's a fully-paid scholarship with stipends. You don't need to do anything else besides just traveling. They also pay the travel costs. |
MARYIAN:I believe we have talked. I have included you now. |
Quicksilver5:Any method is fine. Just make sure it is clearly written. |
Ebonygeek:Yes, please do. There's at least one more slot remaining |
How would you guys know this, yet can't accost these "terrorists"? ![]() |
MARYIAN:I replied you already. It's enough to just send the video, but you must write out today's date in the same video (not a separate one). This is just to be sure. I hope it's not inconvenient. ![]() |
oldienavie:When some people say "hookup", sometimes they actually mean something serious. They just use it loosely ![]() |
MARYIAN:Yeah, that's fine if the 13-year-old kid has special needs. You can send PM in that case |
southsouthking:It's not really about the tool, but more about your passion. How much do you really want to learn? Any tool can do |

IamBabsjnr:Essentially, they are nearly the same. You use both to conduct iterations. Whatever you can do with a WHILE loop, you can also do with a FOR loop. The critical difference is that in a FOR loop, you know ahead of time how many iterations you want to do. That's specified in the first step of your FOR loop, e.g. for i in range(5) simply means you want to do 5 iterations. On the other hand, in a while loop, you would say something like: while k < 5:, where you would have had to define 'k' outside on the loop and then increment 'k' inside the loop. This also makes WHILE loops a little cumbersome to use. The best use case for a WHILE loop is when you just say: while True. This iterates forever until something you do inside the loop makes it stop. Generally, most programmers would avoid a WHILE loop if they know how many iterations they are going to do. An example is if you are going to iterate through a list (maybe to square it?), you don't need a WHILE loop since you already know the length of the list. On the contrary, if you are going to keep counting numbers until someone says "STOP", in which case you don't know how long you will count, you use a WHILE loop, e.g. "keep looking for vulnerabilities in this network until you find one or until I say it's enough" Watch out for my data science course in a few weeks where I'll be conducting extensive tutorials for beginners who want to start out in this field. ![]() |

Whoever listens to this dude? |
avalon7:Why not? There are a ton of remote sql jobs out there |
icehot:The problem is that, even if you find, you can't come in for inspection. Your best bet is to book Airbnb for one month and then use that one month to find a place so you can also go and see where you want to stay. Some of these shared apartments may not be as nice as they look in the pictures. Dealing from Nigeria also opens you to easy scams. |
Angelfrost:Nothing to do with whether it's illegal or not. But more to do with the irresponsibility demonstrated. If he does the same thing every Atiku and Obasanjo would do, what makes him any different from them? |
