So he would have been 10 years old or so when that account was created. In fact that account is 3 years older than my account I joined in 2012.

From a logical stance, I think pedophilia child molestation within the realm of Nigerian law connotes:

1. Carnal knowledge of a person who hasn't attained puberty yet. (Anything with a child under 12 is pedophilia child molestation)

2. Carnal knowledge of a teenager under 18 who has attained puberty but is not your spouse. (If the child attains puberty, pedophilia child molestation depends on whether the child is married or not).

The second connotation implies that since puberty is the mark for eligibility for marriage in Nigeria and it is legally implied that for marriage to be complete it must be consummated that carnal knowledge of ,for instance, a 14 year old married girl is not pedophilia child molestation.

I think Nigerian Law regarding marriage of young people is quite different from American Law.

There are basically two legal systems in the country concerning the issue of marriage- Sharia in the North and the marriage system in the south.

The marriage system in the south is further divided into customary marriage and statutory marriage. A subsequent statutory marriage cancels the effect of customary law marriage on a couple but if there's is no statutory marriage, customary marriage is supreme.

The age in Sharia is "puberty" which is open to different interpretations. A Nigerian Governor married a 13 year old Egyptian in the last decade and it was held to be within Sharia.

The age for customary law marriage is also presumed to be puberty. It is open to interpretations.

The Marriage Act which is in force in Nigeria which is a replica of the Old English Marriage Act we inherited from our Colonial masters put the age of consent at 21. According to the Act, if any of the couple is below the age of 21, they can marry only with consent of their parents or guardians.

The interpretation of the statute is still open but at least it gives an age where Marriage cannot be done without consent. It does not state the age which couples below the age of 21 should not marry even if their parents gave consent.

Your opinion seems to hinge on thinking I’m against age gaps in relationships. I’m not. The only age gap I’m against is when one party is still a minor. By the way a 33 year old can marry a 47 year old and I’d give my blessings if asked.

But as far as this specific example is concerned, I wouldn’t advice it because she’s still quite young. If he was maybe 30, then by all means.

However If the girl is heads over heels in love with him, I’d advice her to wait a few more years to make sure her feelings are truly hers and not a result of his manipulation. The age gap would still be there but she would be a few years wiser. From teenage to adolescence, each year makes a HUGE difference.
