What actually keeps marriages amidst any form of emotional attraction/attachment viz- a- viz Love, is understanding, compatibility and commitment.

It is rare but it exists, one of the qualities of anybody who has true love in them is that they are holy people, they know GOD, they love HIM and they fear HIM also. When you see a real pious person when he says he is in love most likely he will walk the talk. I am not talking of pastors here, just real men who have God in them. You have spoken well but it seems you still do not understand what true love is. All the things you mentioned in the bolded context they are what I call value adds. They can all fail at any point in time but true love never dies. Unfortunately only very few have ever found it. In the olden days it used to be but nowadays it is non existent. Infact the way we are going in the years to come there will be nothing like marriage, people just will decide and agree to have a baby and move on with their lives. It is already happening in some countries of the world today.
So my dear for anybody to enjoy marriage true love must be the foundation.
Let me ask you, can you die for the one you love, if your man suddenly becomes cripple, or an slowpoke (God forbid O) can you still go ahead and marry him. When your man has no money and is totally dependent on you and this condition last for years, will you take that and shield him away from shame.

That is what I am talking about. I know a man that married a girl he claimed he loved, before marriage he was like a slave to the lady that we were wondering what a love made in heaven, can you imagine the guy will even make clothes here in Naija and send through DHL to the USA.
It was after marriage that we now realized his real intentions, he was a good boy then just to have a green card, no sooner than he got it he started displaying all manner of characteristics but before then they had all the qualities you mentioned above. So I still stand for true love even though it is fast gone out of fashion in the world today. True love does not happen over night, it grows over time.
