MissMeiya: That's terrible. Was it in Nigeria?

Nigerians have a misconception that depression is just sadness. I was very reluctant to open this thread. Some comments already say things like "I was depressed once, and I got over it" and "Everyone gets depressed"
Yeah it was. I know a very close friend who takes drugs for his depression. His family doesnt even know he is depressed and I can bet he didn't tell them cos he felt they won't understand.

DollyParton1: The doctor is right to ask you questions if you have just broken up with your boyfriend or maybe you just lost a loved one or something major and bad just happened to you. If any if this is the case, then you aint suffering from depression.
Depression is diagnosed if one has no cause to be depressed and one is. Except if one has been diagnosed with it before and one suffered a major loss or something.
She didn't talk about loss. She kept on with the boyfriend talk even after I told her I hadn't dated in about a year.

softsparkyy: Exactly, nobody knows what you are going through, even when you tell them they still won't understand but thank God my dad was there for me in my own case.
I wonder who told the doctors/therapists that it's only boyfriends issues that can make one depressed. grin
Nigerian mentality.
Health › Re: Nigerians Don't Suffer Depression, Really? by CoCoLav(f): 6:24am On Sep 11, 2014
The thing about depression is nobody knows you are gong through it unless you tell them. Had it for like a year before I got over it and even now when I feel myself slipping back I just talk to God. Sometimes all we need is support and for someone to be there. When it got too much at a point and I went for counselling, I wasn't comfortable with the way the doctor was taking it. She kept asking questions on if I had just broken up with my boyfriend so I just played along and left after enough moral advice.
Family › Re: Adjusting To Life As A Widower by CoCoLav(f): 10:37am On Sep 10, 2014
Wow! Wow! Wow!

My aunty lost her husband in February this year, she has three kids who are under the age of 10 and she has been alone with no one to comfort her. She was going a bit crazy so my parents had to bring her to stay with us. She cries all the time and I didn't know what to say to comfort her. Reading through this thread has helped me understand better what she is going through. I have found it helps when she talks about the good times they had. I know it will take a while but I know she will get over this. She keeps asking where she will start from because she is in her early 30s but I know she will be okay.

Maybe I would refer her to this thread. Thanks everyone

lari03: You have not specified the state of the vehicle you are interested in: Registered or Freshly imported?
Oh, sorry its just that I know next to nothing about cars.
I will prefer registered but I will also be interested in knowing the price of a newly imported one because the price will actually determine the one I will go for. Thanks a bunch.

DoctorVicky: He is generous to everyone except me. I find it difficult to demand for things. I've been told I need to ask him fo certain things but I feel he should know what to do without me asking
My view too. If you wait for me to ask then you are on a loong thing.
Family › Re: I Am Having Second Thoughts Concerning My Wedding by CoCoLav(f): 8:24pm On Sep 08, 2014
When you were dating did he ever buy you a gift or at least care about your welfare? You know a guy is stingy right from when you are dating. Whether you choose to marry him or not despite his stinginess is left to you especially if you have a good job and do not intend to rely on him financially. If he has been supporting you before but is being laid back now, it could be as a result of exorbitant bride price charged by your family or maybe you are demanding too much from the wedding so he wants you to also bear the brunt of your decision.

Furthermore if you are working, you are to bear the expenses equally without any issues because you are both getting married.

Personally I won't ask any man I am dating for anything because I believe I have enough but if he doesn't willingly send me gifts no matter how cheap then I will just conclude he is stingy. I might still continue dating him especially if he has other qualities I like but I will aim more towards financial independence.

So you alone know if he is really stingy and if you can live with it. Besides, he is your man and you alone would know how to collect money from him no matter how tight fisted he is. You are a woman and you have power. Common my brother and cousins I know how to squeeze them when I really wish.

Stinginess in my opinion shouldn't stop you from marrying him. Just look for ways to make your own money or device a method of collecting the money when you get married.

That's what I will do if I were in your shoes o. Just my opinion

sodiqyinka: Even if your frnd is 45yrs(no pun intended) he will still nid to register to get his exemption letter. If your having issues with registering, just give like 24hrs n try again... It will work.

sodiqyinka: They are not sending any names before 22nd of this month. I can authoritatively tell you your school havent send any names to nysc. Not yet anyways. They will start recieving names from 22nd and stop on 27th. About the registeration ish... You can register so far you have a jamb registeration number whether ur school regularize or not. All they need your registeration number for is to retrieve ur biodata from jamb database. Nothing more. And yes, i know what im talking about. wink
Hmmn...okay. Everything is hearsay anyway unless you work with NYSC.

nosky4: So ur tellin us that those dat completed dia regiatratn has been regularised by dia various schools?
Possibly. I was told that if you input your jamb registration and matric number and nothing pops up then your name hasn't been sent. You should return to your school and ask questions. That's how my friend knew he wouldn't be mobilized.
NYSC › Re: Batch C 2014 Mobilisation Time Table by CoCoLav(f): 11:20am On Sep 08, 2014
sodiqyinka: You can register even if ur school havent regularize so far you wrote jamb and yes, you nid to register or you wont b mobilised.
I don't think you can register if your school hasn't regularized. My friend couldnt register because he was over 30 years and the school didn't send his name. That's why you are asked for your matric number at the point of registration. The faculty officer in school even confirmed that they had sent our names to NYSC.

stevecantrell: Some poeple are born 'intersex' it doesn't mean Michelle is a man.

She may have a rudimentary p.enis that was never surgically removed and normal internal female reproductive organs. Not technically a right to call her transexual.
