we must beat QPR anyhow either by ojoro or anyway permissible in football
we need the 3 points
We have to beat QPR and then relax and watch City go against Arsenal. I will be an ARSE fan on sunday grin especially after we beat QPR.

The issue is, who will play in the middle, Carrick, Park and Giggs,[sub] some pple will blow a gasket now[/sub]. grin Except Fergie reinvents something new.

Those 3 points are gonna be precious.

i hope you know he had fletcher and gibson on the bench? those are natural midfielders. why play a team with no natural midfielder?
giggs is not a midfielder. park is not - neither is jones. fergie's selection wasn't the best but let's assume gibson/fletcher are not match-fit for argument's sake.

the match that got me hyper was the old trafford game against benfica - when he rested hernandez and rooney.
Gibson and Fletcher would have also been on the field as natural midfielders and still not show the kinda determination we expect of them.

They are also not exactly at the top of their game to say that if they were on the pitch the scenerio would have changed.

I understand your point about the game against Benfica at OT, but i also remember when we had this draw, most of us in here swore that Fergie could go to sleep and still qualify from this group using our reserves. The guys let us down, thats my take.

Now its really game on. . . . . 2 points and I guess Citeh ain't sitting pretty anymore.

Exactly!!!

I have been reading the arguements since and just think i will go with your conclusions. Those guys let Fergie down Big time.
Considering the fact that almost all the key midfielders were either suspended or injured. Fergie had to make do with what he had hence the trio of Jones, park and Giggs. truth is that is not a formidable midfield by any standard, but we still expect them to get the job done against a team like Basel, regardless of the result of the first leg.

We have played players outer position before and gotten away with it as a result of them stepping up and getting the job done. The players that played that day were strong enough to have gotten the job done, they let everybody down, especially Fergie. thats my take.

The problem is that Nigerians we want everything in life free, how can someone think that Nigerians are benefiting from subsidy?
You benefit from subsidy but you don’t have the road to drive the car that you put in the cheap fuel.

In Ghana fuel is sold for the value of 150 naira, in Ivory Coast it sold for the value of 260 naira.
Then the question is, does it means that the citizens of these countries struggle more than Nigerians? The answer is NO
because here in Nigeria everybody hustle very well with or even without government, With constant light ordinary barbing salon guy will benefit more than what he is benefiting from the so called subsidy.

Also these Countries are better off without subsidy then we will be better if subsidy is removed, Even these countries enjoy basic amenities’ more than we the Nigerians the giant of Africa, so it is better we make thing right.

The subsidy is only putting money to the pocket of few rich Nigerians and those are the people pushing the masses to fight the removal of the subsidy.
You dey compare the price of fuel in Ghana and Ivory coast with naija. Do they have crude oil??

USA, Britain and a few Scandinavian countries are also "blessed" with oil & gas natural resources. They give no subsidy but allow private investors do their business while government creates the enabling environment and monitors/controls just as is done with Nigeria's GSM since 2001. Evidence to support this governance model abound even in Nigeria. Moreover many able-bodied Nigerians are lining up and going to prayer sessions/vigils for visas to these countries where they have no fuel subsidy- WHY huh
One decade after we can see the difference with telecommunication service compared to NITEL that was on subsidy life-support without results. The same is true for Nigeria Airways. It is in the interest of everyone, particularly the masses to remove fuel subisdy.
Please do not compare GSM and fuel, they are not in the same league. With GSM pple waited for the prices to come down b4 buying. i remember when glo was selling SIM for 1Naira.

With fuel, there is a rippling effect on every other commodity, how would the poor man survive before supposed competition drives down the price for him to afford it.

@op,

its true subsidy has to be removed but for me, what's important is the timing more than the removal.
I feel the Government should try to build refineries that will be fully operational to augment for importations before removing subsidy.
Moneys spent on subsidy so far is enough to have gotten us at least 30 refineries and we wont have any need to keep importing and spending so much on subsidy.
benlay:
It's so pathetic when some folks come here and post what they do not know, fuel/gas is a natural resources and Nigeria is one of the few countires that is blessed with it. The subsidy came in place when 'government' put people in place to sabotage the refineries so we could start/keep importing fuels to the country.

I will give you an instance -Libya (one of OPEC members)
Petrol is very cheap in Libya, which compensates for all the above costs: one of the cheapest in the world. Some tourists find it "bizarre" that alcohol-free beer costs 5 Libyan dinars, when 10 litres of petrol cost 2 Libyan dinars. As in any other country, imported goods are generally more expensive than goods produced locally.

Petrol : 20p a litre (0.20 LYD).
Diesel : 15p a litre (0.15 LYD).

Update: (March 2011):

Libya has slashed petrol prices in Libya by 25%. The price of one litre of petrol is now 15 pence, down by 5 pence from 20 pence.
http://www.temehu.com/Prices.htm

Based on the above, 100 pence make one GBP,so 15 pence is about N37.50, a litre of petrol is sold for less that N40 in Libya, people what are we saying?
GEJ has been talking, i understand, he did not start the problem but if he wants to solve it, removing the subsidy is not the first thing to do, we should have more refineries in place and get the old ones working then no one should even be talking about subsidy in the first place.
May God punish all these people that drove us and left us at the juncture. sad embarassed
It is clear that all our past leaders including the dead ones need to be brought out and all of them shot and killed again.

The finance minister gave a staggering amount as moneys that has gone into subsidy and i can remember that all along we have been advocating for other refineries to be built but no way, they continue to steal the money thru develish importation.

How a country like naija still has delapitated refineries still beats me, and for those saying it is not right for govt to build refineries, i think that is just not right. Govt is in the business of making life comfortable for its citizenry and in cases like this there are some projects that they take into their hands which will always include private participation. we ought to have have had atleast 10 refinaries in this country, stop the exportation of crude and be in the business of exporting everything that is the product and by-product of this processed crude.

As per the removal of the subsidy, I strongly feel the subsudy should go. if i get what GEJ wants to do, he wants to remove the subsidy now sothat private refinaries would be built and then prices would be forced down through competition, which is not a bad idea and the supposed money used for the supposed subsidy channelled to other infrastructural development which we are not sure will happen cos of the level of corruption which he also has to tackle.

The problem is that we know it would take about 4 years, if they start now, for the so called private businessmen to build their refinaries, within this 4 years what will happen to the common man, them no go never die finish? this is the insensitive part of the whole subsidy removal and that is why refinaries should have been the first thing to be built while trying as much as possible to fight the smuggling that would be taking place. If the govt is serious about fighting the smuggling then i know they can, but because these same pple invested in GEJ coming election he cant/wont touch them.

We are in a very bad situation in this country. lets see how things pan out.

I support the removal of the subsidy, but for someone to just wake up one morning and tell us it will be removed is the problem here. The process of even removing it is even more scary. Is GEJ telling us that refinaries cannot be built in this country within the next three years with everone understanding that the subsidy will be totally removed after 3 years. this is like pulling the rug from under our feets without any form of regard.

Please dont tell me about any palliative measures that GEJ is keeping to his chest, it is well documented that the govt has almost always never lived up to its duties and you want us to expect that a govt with that kind of track record will suddenly implement whatever palliative measures it has. The palliative measures that you BEAF only know. How are we sure that they would even reduce the budden on the citizenry, talkless about it being implemented.

If GJ woke up 2mrw and said he was commited to true federalim and had this kinda zeal for it he would have   more supporters than this useless fuel subsidy nonsense.

Build the danm refineries and the issue of fuel sudsidy will be a thing of the past. Its as simple as that.

Berba would be too isolated with that.
I think so too.

I just think our formation should be mainly based on the style of play of the opposition and the players available among other factors.

coogar:
he wouldn't be. berba gets attracted to the ball, he's not like rooney or hernandez who tend to run towards the goal.
with that formation, there's more stability and the defence won't be overrun by the opponents.

4-4-2 is an obsolete formation. yes, it's the best attacking formation but it's the worst formation defensively.
if the opponents can find an intelligent pass from their own half when being attacked, it leaves 2-3 of their players against 2 centre-halves of man utd.
then we suddenly look outnumbered.
A 442 does not mean we must always go gong ho, the wing backs should also be cautious going forward. That way they can reduce the pressure when we are being countered.

since we have about 4 line huggers in the team, we definitely have to use the wings, atleast one of them and that definitely affects the positioning of the other players as to what exactly is the winger supposed to do.

they both have their strengths and weaknesses but i doubt scholes was as good as anderson in 1997! anderson was never a central midfielder when he was purchased from porto. united converted him from his natural position to be playing in a 2-man midfield with 2 out and out wingers.
of all the teams playing 4-4-2 in europe, united midfielders have the most difficult task. nani + valencia tend to make the pitch wide for central midfielders as they are always on the touchline. ashley young is even worse.

when carlos quieroz was here, he doesn't risk nani + ronaldo on the flanks in big games. cos that will leave the midfield exposed as the 2 portugese wingers are too out n out. he either played ji sung park who isn't a winger or he played ryan giggs there and giggs has stopped being an out n out winger for at least 4 seasons - so the task is more difficult for our midfielders than any other team in the land. in my own opinion, we should dump 4-4-2. it's an obsolete formation!
I agree its quite difficult playing 2 midfielders when we have 2 out and out wingers. But Anderson critics will not want to hear that. Imagine him getting darts thrown at him for a game he did not partake. When he has a stinker of a game, all hell will break lose. How exceptional have the other midfielders been this season. Carrick is so good he has started all UNITED's games this term.

These same guys will be mute when he has an excellent game.

It beats me how we would be debating about how 'useless' a certain Anderson is in a game where he was not even on the bench.

As for the swipe at Welbeck, my mouth is sealed shocked huh

Stop confusing yourself.
It's too early to be contradicting yourself.
When Anderson was in charge of our midfield, how many assists did he have in our goal-spree?
When Tom Cleverley made his cameo against Everton, didn't you see how much balance he brought to the midfield?
Against Swansea,I'm guessing you didn't see what Michael Carrick,in spite of my criticism of him, brought to United in terms of breaking up their  (Swansea)play and making it difficult for them to get across to the backline,as well as passing more comfortably.

We blame Anderson because he was supposed to be Scholesy's successor. So far he has failed miserably.
If this is what you want to base your criticism of Anderson on then i think he will never have a chance to prove himself.

Anderson Vs Scholes, How do you want to compare these two players. Its like comparing apples and grapes IMO.

Scholesy pings the ball to any player from anywhere on the field perfectly, Anderson is good at short effective passes

Scholesy takes precise and very potent shots from outside the 18, we know Anderson cant shoot to save his life.

Scholesy has got no clue about tackling, Anderson fights for the ball in midfield.

Scholesy is not as effective as Anderson when driving forward, he (scholes) has an eye for that eye-of-the-needle-pass.

scholesy is ineffective at breaking up counter attacks, Anderson is quite better.

i dont know how you wanna compare these two players.

Pls note, scholesy is a UNITED legend and i have every respect for him and what he has accomplished with UNITED. He is one of the greatest players to have worn the MU shirt. To ask Anderson to replace him will be asking to much atleast for now.

Did you see the reduced number of opponents' shot attempts since the Everton game as we previously complained?
Did you see the coverage Carrick provided for the defence?
So even if in your opinion, the midfield didn't improve,is that enough to vouch for your Anderson?
What exactly is the function of the midfield/midfielders in a game?

They are supposed to provide cover for the defense, initiate attack and control the tempo of the game, depending on certain circumstances (when winning or losing) this also depends on the type of players the coach has deployed for particular functions.

Now you are saying shots on our goal has reduced, which is true, but has our goal haul improved. The return of Nemanja Vidic has also greatly improved the defense. Who were those in the midfield yesterday, why did they not ping perfet balls to Chica so he can finish swansea off, since you feel carrick was impressive in covering the defence.

So what exactly is Andersons' role in a United shirt as would have been instructed by Fergie? To blame Anderson for our lack of creativity and alsso lack of covering the defence or even holding the ball is rather unfair, this i say because those are mainly the functions of a midfielder.

My arguement about Anderson is not that he is the best thing that can happen to United, but he is very ok for our midfield FOR NOW as we cant go into the market mid season, I will pick Ando over most or midfielder for now anyday.

so why blame him when everything goes belly up in the midfield. Even when he did not take part, his name is still mentioned. huh

i think you should be the one to think first before you insult someone cos of his opinion.

By castigating him for his comments means that you support the fact that once someone gets into public office he should first loot the treasury and when he is done with his office and looting he then chooses one of the following;[list]

1. Decide to set up businesses in his country where he has looted.

2. Decide to set up businesses in other countries and

3. Decide to eat it alone.

As long as he is doing the first option according to you then the looting while he was in public office is justified.

Now, if this is the norm, and people like "you" support and justify it, then i never want people like "you" complaining about anything in this country.

This is because while the public office holder is in office he should be busy stealing money instead of making life easier for the citizens by using the supposed money he is given to better the life instead of stealing it and then coming to do "us' and 'himself' a whole world of good by setting up businesses with stolen money.

i am not a GEJ supporter, but am sure you are one of them castigating and attacking him for all that is his doing. He might be stealing his own money so that when he finishes his tenure he will then use that money to supposedly help the nation by providing emploment.
