How did Ironsi manage to do this if the 4 Regions that were there the day he took over, were still there the day he was killed?
gidgiddy:
Rather than believe what you were told, use google and find Gowons decree 14, where he abolished all 4 Regions and created 12 states
Ironsi made it that the regions no longer controlled their resources and their revenue which means the regions became subservient to the FG.

You need to Google what was agreed at Aburi to know that is not true. Ojukwu actually wanted the highest ranking officer at the time, Brigadier Ogundipe, a Yoruba man, to take over, as military tradition recommends.

At Aburi, Ojukwu agreed that Gowon, who was at the time junior to several officers, including Ojukwu, should become head of State as long as Nigeria was run as a confederation until the return of civilian rule.

Gowon returned to Nigeria, turned his back on the Aburi agreement he signed in Ghana, and to add insult to injury, announced Decree 14, which abolished all 4 Regions all together, replaced them with 12 brand new states, half of which was allocated to the North, took away resource control and fiscal federalism

Ojukwu was left with no choice but to declare Biafra

Aburi is one of the major reasons they will never teach Nigerian history in schools, they dont want people to know the truth
Again with this usual lies you keep repeating.

It was Ironsi an Igbo man that abolished regionalism by creating a unitary government..

Your lies will never become truth..

You dont get it, the current system gives the North an edge over the South.
The current system was created by Ironsi ( the Ig:bos ) to favour the Igbos but it back fired and now favors the north and the U:K...

Do you you know that the laxity in the northern part of Nigeria almost in every spheres of life, is due to the system of government practiced in Nigeria and the written contents in what we call a constitution?
Or do you think the over population and low concern for education in the north will exist that much if quota system was not enshrined in the rubbish called constitution?
Do you think the north will feel so aloof if the resources generated in the south is spent to develop the south instead of the north?
Do you think the north will like WAEC and NECO to put the cut off marks of South at 200 and something and that of the north at 10 and below if Nigeria is practising regional system of government?

Whether people like you like it or not, the type of government practiced in Nigeria and the written paper called constitution is the real bane of Nigerian development. Nigeria needs to go back to regional government with an aboriginal constitution attested to by the indigenous people, and watch how every regions will be competing to out develop each other
Your problem is you think the regions will be competing to out develop each other..

Why compete when they can use violence to illegally take over a region.

When Nigeria practiced regionalism the Ig:bos through the prime minister Azikwe gave every federal government jobs in every region to the Igbos and that's why there's a video of the then premier of northern Nigeria warning about the Igbos and an audio of Akintola also warning about the Igbos.

And Azikwe still wanted to be premier of the western region just because at that time the western region was the richest region. They were jealous of the western region.

It was the abolishment of the 4 Regions by Gowon, and breaking of the confederation agreed at Aburi, that forced Ojukwu to declare Biafra, and Gowon to declare war

In other words, confederation was never the problem, the problem was those who did not want confederation
You again.

You've come with your fake and false version of history.

Ojukwu declared Biafra because the Ig:bos through Ironsi had control of Nigeria was killed and that meant Ig:bos no longer controlled Nigeria and it's resources and so Ojukwu decided to try to take over Nigeria again using Biafra..

This is what they want you to believe, North is rich in mineral resources, vast land for agriculture and skillful youths for wealth creation.
Before the discovery of crude oil, Nigeria economy was doing well with Cocoa and groundnut. Today, most of the tomatoes , onions , etc are mostly coming from north... And the list continues.
Today gold in zamfara is not going to the federation account but oil in the south is the national cake .
The problem is north runs a system that favours a few people, that's why even though most richest in this country, the poorest also comes from there.

If today Nigeria decided to go to regional government, it will only take a few years and north will be on top again.
ElSudani:
The north is sitting on resources more valuable than crude oil. Agriculture alone can transform the north to one of the richest parts of Africa, not just Nigeria.
This unitary system doesn't encourage states to look inwards, generate their own income and pull their people out of poverty.
Northern Nigeria can never ever surpass Southern Nigeria and that's the main reason the Br:itish amalgamated and joined north and south Nigeria in 1914 due to the north having a terrible deficit in balance of trade.

Yes I believe in regions ran govt

And I think there's something sinister about nigeria not having a functional refinery

Maybe there's an unwritten rule about the year nig must have a refinery
You have a problem.. your problem is you think in terms of Nigeria..

it's not about Nigeria not having a refinery it's about an individual , a state , group of states, group of private companies , group of people e.t.c building and owning a refinery..

Thats one of the reasons the north is building a refinery through dang:ote.

Lagos ogun and all the SW states could have come together and contributed to build a refinery since all these years..

Same thing for the SE and SS they could have come together to build anything they want.

The Eastern region ( the Igbos ) would have had one of the biggest oil companies in the world if they had built an oil company instead of trying to take over Nigeria through war.

My problem with some of us in this forum that are saying the north will not accept. Does that mean that we have made the north to be superior to the south? Or a tribe to dominate about other 300 tribes? Let us leave this nonsense and face the reality, Nigeria belong to us all, and inability to make all tribes equal will always lead to agitation. After all, those who claimed to be superior do not have anything to show for it, and in an ideal situation, those with economic power must dictate the pace.
It means that the north will not accept it and one of the only ways the south can restructure is to declare war on northern Nigeria and that will lead to another civil war.

The other way the south either SW SS SE can restructure is to create a company that will be buying all the oil blocks when it's time to bid and also buy the airports seaports railways in the south.
In summary, either SW SS SE has to do what China is doing..

Nigeria problem is not really about leadership but of structural anomaly brought about by a failed constitution of 1979 and amended in 1999...This is the reason why any elected president will never make any viable progress because the present constitution is very inimical to the progress of Nigeria.

Toks2008:
So what is the essence of maintaining the current structure that has put the south in a subservient position to the north?
Toks2008:
Go and do proper research perhaps you will know better
You're very wrong.

The structural anomaly is not because of the Constitution but because of Ojukwu, Ironsi coup which abolished regionalism because they wanted to take over control of Nigeria not knowing that their own region the Eastern region was about to experience a massive and positive economic boom due to their lack of foresight.

Northern Nigeria will never allow it and the U:K will never allow it because it allowed and still allows Sh:ell oil company to become the oil Juggernaut that it is today and one of the main reasons Nigeria never had a functioning ref:inery.

hedonido has given you the best answer...

Blame the I:gbos for the woes southern Nigeria is suffering and not the Constitution.

eeetuk comment below answers you.. and in case you miss the point he said most jobs go to locals which in Nigerian terms means indigenes..

We are not Nigerians. In Nigeria also most jobs go to indigenes because Nigeria is a country that has countries inside it when you realize and understand this then half of your problem is solved.

Non-indigenes in Nigeria say there are no jobs in the country but the truth is the jobs go to the indigenes or locals..

In summary,
Life will quite difficult for people without generational wealth who live outside of their ethnic country..
There's no ethnicity called Nigerian..

eeetuk:
"A Nigerian man identified as Chinedu Ogugua Bosah has been sentenced to 13 years imprisonment for sm¥ggling coc@ine into the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC)."

Living your country to another country, no matter what the reason may be, is a terrible decision for many reasons. First, how you are going to support yourself is difficult. Second, how to return to your country when things get tougher, and worst is difficult. Third, Locals don't like foreigners make it difficult to survive.

I listed above reasons with lots of experiences in my belt. When i left Nigeria years ago to study abroad, the money i brought from Nigeria to my foreign country only lasted me for a year. Finding a job after was difficult. That is because most jobs go to locals. And even when locals don't want the job, employers still refused to hire foreigners. It gets worser, when you are black man. So is the case with many Nigerians who are now caught in crimes spree. So, i faced many difficulties completing my education, and the truth is, never one day did i think of committing a crime. I did odd jobs to pay my way to school and graduated. Then, I went to graduate school and graduated also. And thank God for that.

Nigerians who are caught up in crimes are those who cannot support themselves after they arrived in a foreign country to study. Returning home is never an option because you are ashamed of yourself and thinking about how you are going to survive back home.

So, the purpose of contributing to this story is to advice Nigerians to please stay at home. That is because home is the best. No difficulties that you are going through in NIgeria today is lesser than what you meet abroad. Unfortunately, many Nigerians cannot handle problems they encounter in foreign countries, hence, they engage in illegal activities and get caught in the process. Please, fellow Nigerians, stay at home. Home is the best!

For Moffi you can argue he's has performed relatively well in a higher level league compared to Onuachu but until we see Paul in a top 5 European league it will be unfair to draw that judgment. Sadiq got injured before he could take off properly in La Liga so we can't really use league performance as basis of whether Umar trumps Paul.

Now using national team football you can't really separate the 3 forwards in terms of lasting impact and performance. That said one can argue Onuachu has had a longer stay in the national team than the previous 2 and apart from his wonder goal against Egypt back in 2018 he hasn't exactly set the house on fire with his displays in the SEs.

Personally Moffi looks more like someone who could deputize for Osimhen. I was impressed with his game against Algeria recently. His overall output and not just his goal won me over. Overall I agree that the number 2 striker position is still not cast in stone and it's still open for anyone to grab that chance.
charlesemeka85:

Moffi is not a deputy to anyone. Moffi will play alongside Osimhen in the starting eleven.

Do you know that Klopp has been using a 4-4-2 this season? Firmino and Salah up front with Nunez and Carvalho and sometimes Elliot on the flanks..yet Robertson and Trent are still doing the crossing... The reason why we have more wingers that score these days is because of the system that allow them cut into the box more often rather than hugging the touchline...
When you see Nunez who is a forward player on the flanks then know that 4-4-2 is the fake formation or public formation while the main formation is 4-3-3..

The reason you see more wingers score is because the position is now called left wing forward and right wing forward they are all forward players and they should position themselves in the box to score a cross or pass if they are not the ones crossing or passing.

Football is about exploiting spaces on the pitch and wingers ensure there are always players on the wing waiting to attack the space.

What I wrote there wasn't from my thinking..it is an analysis of how the modern game is . You can prove me wrong... How many top wingers in today's game are still playing crosses? How many top teams still use that style? In fact, how many wingers still play the traditional style of wingers hugging the touchline? Name some of them for me...
football is football nothing like modern game... In a counter attack it's mostly the striker or wingers that run with the ball forward and they are the ones that will play the crosses into the box..

Every top team uses that style.. its either the winger plays a cross or passes into the box or cuts into the box then shoots or passes.... the wings are very useful when it comes to chance creation...

Brazil vs Ghana match, most of the goals Ghana conceded were from crosses into the box, Vinicius Junior and Raphinha were playing crosses into box...

2 of Osimhen's goals for his hat-trick were from crosses into the box one from the winger Kvara and other from the Right Fullback..

Wingers in this age and time have moved pass the era of crossing...that's the job of fullbacks.. Why? Because you need a mobile forward line that can flow together... Play Onuachu in a 4-3-3 with Salah and Mane as it was with Liverpool and he wouldf struggle cus they won't play no dammed cross to him...
This is very wrong especially when in most cases it's the wingers that will lead counter attacks and not the fullbacks.

It's thinking like yours that's one of the reasons Super Eagles didn't qualify for the world cup.

Crossing or low crossing or passing into box puts pressure on the opposition and keeps the ball in the opposition's half of the field as it can lead to corners and this reduces the amount of shots your GK will face...

it's quite simple

IGBOS are pained that Yorubas didn't support them during the civil war which resulted to their loss

Ever since then nothing good Yoruba can do that the igbos will acknowledge

Btw, igbos hate the fulanis/Hausa much more than they hates the Yorubas

This is the reason why igbos will hardly rule Nigeria nothing more or less

IGBOS had been nurturing victimhood mentality since time immemorial. They even blame late queen eliza for their misfortunes and woes in life

Their hatred towards Buhari isn't strange as everyone knows igbos and the fulanis/Hausa are day and night

Same hatred they portray towards Tinubu

Let's see how it goes at the end
You're very mis-informed..

It was the envy and jealousy of the success of the Yoruba region that made the Igbo leaders think of violently taking over Nigeria.

so there is no way Yorubas would have supported Igbo during the war because the war itself was targeted at the Yoruba region.. will you support people that want to kill you and your family huh

in the 1960s , Nzeogwu exhibited such hatred towards Yorubas.

below ( gotten from wi:ki

"According to a Nigerian Police Special Branch Report, Nzeogwu executed at least 4 army and police security personnel including one of the men on his team (Sergeant Daramola Oyegoke). Nzeogwu also participated in the execution of Col. Raph Shodeinde, his superior officer at the Nigerian Military Training College and is reported to have shot indiscriminately at fleeing women and children.."..

the statement above shows pure hatred for Yorubas and a lot of igbos all have this similar behavior towards Yorubas.

you are right about the annoying part especially on Simon. Simon plays on a single mode which is playing on a particular style till people begin to swear on him. When he is on a dribbling mode he dribbles so much that he forgets his assignment on the field and when he decides to stop dribbling he plays like those kick and rush English bred players used to play before foreign coaches started coming to england. It even seems almost all our wingers have a consistency problem. Chukwueze, Kalu, Simon, ejike and onyekuru. These one's problems is knowing when not to dribbles. Alhaji Musa's problem is mostly running ahead of the ball. God knows what kind of player he would have been if he had salah's type of control. Dennis is really that much a regular in the gwg and lookman looks decent. maybe it would be better if we move ahead from this wing based type of football. It's sad watching the team struggle when the opposition shuts down our wings. Hopefully pj will start something of that sort before he leaves
the opposition never shuts down our wings.. it is Simon and Chukwueze that holds on to ball for long that was shut down, all Simon and Chukwueze has to do is pass to another player or cross the ball into the box or do a one-two with another player.

If onyenezide, Debbie Abiodun and some other midfielders from the U20 set are picked then long balls would be minimal but are also important because they can concede goals if they don't clear the ball which is one of the reasons the U17 reached the semi-finals. Folorunsho was just clearing any ball that landed in the box or kicked it out for throwing..
