daveP: Pushing and encouraging coaching license courses abroad till it becomes the norm. We need it on CVs. Then style of play again. We had none in this competition. Style of play, positioning, passing and the time to start making substitutions, passing in the opponents half of the field e.t.c are what they should be working on.. Oliseh has foreign coaching license and he made the Super Eagles worse and caused problems amongst the players. |

lovewins: Except there's a paradigm shift (which isn't likely to happen), I won't suggest Olowookere as a coach for any of the age grade teams. He obviously achieved what no one else has at the u-17 level and deserves the Kudos, but he isn't the best fit for young girls in my opinion.
The constant shouting and barking of his displeasure vis a vis instructions at players was a sorry sight. It ultimately isn't good for a players psyche. At some points in today's match, he was literally shouting at the players to pack the box while Germany was about to take a free kick, Omilana however was shouting at the top of her lungs for them to push out instead, confusion set in as the players weren't sure whose instructions to follow. We were lucky not to concede at that point.
Notice the disposition of the German coach all through the game, she was giving instructions where necessary and you could hardly hear her voice, she was encouraging and clapping from the sidelines even when they were 3 goals down. The German girls didn't express any form of pressure at all. We need someone in that mold for young teenagers. because he didn't teach and train them how to keep possession and stay in triangle positions.. He had good set of players but he couldn't make them better and boost their confidence on the ball and off the ball... At least his has won something and can improve himself if he wants to... |

hismail1: Germany second goal was a clear offside, don't know how VAR missed that. It wasn't offside.. one of the Nigerian central defenders was deeper than the other Nigerian defender thereby playing the German player on while the another German player was offside.. the German player that touched the ball wasn't offside. |

labas370: That's why he needs a refresher's course. Even CEO of top companies go for refresher's courses. Learning doesn't have a cap. You keep on learning and then trying out what you learnt with some modifications. He tried. We lost to colombia because the game plan for that day nearly paid off but was totally a bad game. MOU does that too.
I have a writeup i was writing after the U-20 tournament for our Nigerian female teams and i kind of abandoned it due to work. I think I will finish it up in coming days and post it here too. It will cover a lot of areas. We drew against Colombia... we didn't lose.. If Edafe had scored or the other GK had at least dive and catch something.. We would have been in the final... A coach that does not know how to tell his players to keep possession and also change formation to an "Athletico de Madrid" type of defensive formation is an okay coach.. we need an excellent coach.. hopefully he improves himself and becomes better and excellent.. |

labas370: This coach deserved all the praises. Atleast what we all can agree is that he drilled this team well on penalty. Respect to him. He should be retained as U-17 coach but sent on a refreshers course. Coach that lost a 3 goal lead he should have trained them well for the Columbia game instead of kneeling down and turning to prayer warrior... he didn't kneel down and pray today.. |

Deltamani: Glad Opeyemi Ajakaye finally registers her name on the score sheet of the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup I was beginning to question her scoring prowess since the start of the tourney. Very unlike the Opeyemi i know. Her problem is she shoots straight at the goalkeeper she doesn't place her shots past the goalkeeper.. Even the goal she scored was straight at the goalkeeper but the goalkeeper deflected it into the net. |

Okenwa ( debutant ) missed one on one minutes before halftime. Folorunsho injured carried off the field. Blessing Sunday replaces Folorunsho and then almost scored own goal. Var check for Germany penalty. Not given |

Utonwanne: Players ought to earn their move to a better club. There's nothing put him there or here.
Forget about goals or not, Osimhen is much better than Moffi in almost all aspects of the game.
They are both Ours. I hope they can play together someday. You guys care so much about the club a Nigerian player plays for that if PSG decides to go for Terem Moffi you guys will start saying he is better than Osimhen.... Lille was already a good club in France and much higher and better than Lorient... but Terem Moffi is amazing there.. |

Emmy450: "moffi not on osimehn's level' is a fact bro. Moffi is good osimehn is better its not a fact... put Moffi in the current Napoli and Moffi will score similar to Osimhen.. It's not about who's is better its about "are they scoring goals" and the answer is yes.. its talks like that, that prevents Nigerian coaches from calling up good players... you guys forget that they are not foreign born so their european career growth most times is gradual.. People here are saying nonsense like Osimhen should go to Chelsea or even E:ngland knowing fully well that if he goes to E:ngland they will turn him to winger or wing back and then the E:nglish media will label him a flop... |

ThePresenceWtf: Yeah i remember Espitaleta, Guzmán, Perlaza, Ortegón and Linda Caicedo played in the U20 World Cup in Costa Rica. Caicedo was there best player too in the U20, she scored 2 vs New Zealand and she's already a full international having made her debut for their Snr Team at the age of 15, with 15 Caps and 4 goals. I'm Hoping that Flourish is nurtured and given similar opportunities in the national team too as she seems to be the standout amongst attackers since 2016 in our women's age grade teams.
This is where we always have a problem in West Africa, especially Nigeria. We do not have succession plans. You can count how many of our U17/U20 teams both men and women have made the transition from Jnr Football to Snr Football and went on to have successful careers on one hand since the turn of the millennia. ( e.g The last U17 World cup That Nigeria Participated in, Only 3 Players has made it to the National team and are a success story. Nnadozie, Ajibade, Ucheibe and maybe we can throw in Peace Efih. and Glory Ogbonna in there )
We see this in every facet of the country too, we do not have a blue print/master plan, follow up and succession plan in everything done in that country. You can see the state of infrastructures, economic growth, education. Even our sports hasn't grown in the past 20 years but rather has regressed.
We always start from the beginning whenever we wanna do anything because there was none existing before or the already existing ones weren't maintained and have been left to rot. It doesn't help that we always put unqualified and clueless individuals to oversee the affairs of the other 220+ million individuals in this country so we never even get a desirable outcome to begin with. Nigerians are groomed to rely on prayer ( religion ) and hope instead of creating multiple masterplans, training to abide and adher to the masterplans and having other plans that improve the original masterplan incase the original masterplan doesn't work or becomes obsolete.. |

justicechichex: She's still 17 and there's room for improvement.. you're right... but our defense and midfield gave her space.. whereas the Colombian defenders just maintained their position and Flamingoes strikers didn't have space that is what I expect Flamingoes defenders to do but they don't have a defense line and another defender is always deeper than the other. |

justicechichex: Not trying to discredit what the girls have done so far in this tourney, coz they've tried so far to the best of their ability. But i'm just wondering if these girls are the best set of u-17 we have in the country. Or it's down to the coaches tactics. Coz this kick and follow kind of football i saw against USA & Colombia no follow atall.
And that Caicedo for Colombia na baller. Marta in the making! Caicedo is already playing for the main Colombian women national team.. How many of the Flamingoes are playing or given game time in the Super Falcons the commentator also said at least 6 of the players in their U17 played at the just concluded U20 women's world cup.. How many of the Flamingoes played at the U20 women's world cup If Caicedo was a baller she would have scored hat-trick because she had at least 2 one one ones with Omilana. |

ThePresenceWtf: I know That, but I was pointing out that it was terrible coaching by not preparing the girls for the PK, since that was what the coach was going for. The coach ( More so, the GK coach) usually gives the GK list of the opposition players and their strong/dominant foot and which side they usually kick the ball to be it PK, Shots, Set Pieces and clearances. ( Now I'll forgive them for lack of preparation on opposition players placement of shots during PKs as there maybe limited data on that, given that this is most likely this girls first outing where data is collected ) But to not do proper opposition scouting and determine their dominant foot, body and shoulder placement when taking a shot, set piece and clearance is appaling.
It also appears that the Nigerian goalkeeper was out there purely on her talent to stop spot kicks and no training, Practice, teaching and hard work was put in. ( Talent can only take you so far, without hard work, it means nothing). It's clear that Jiwaku is only comfortable diving to her right side as evidenced during the USA PK shootout and today. Of the 12 shootouts she faced in this competition, she only dove to her left ONCE ( against the US ). This is where the coaches comes in. Train her to be comfortable moving to her left also. If she had moved to her left even once, it doesn't mean she'll save it ( Though it also increases her chance of saving the left centered shots, as you can't make a save if you don't try) it would have prompted the Colombian takers to switch up their routine and go to her right also, thereby increasing the probability that she makes a save. Of the 6 Spot Kicks the Colombians took, 2 was struck to her right, She saved one and got a hand to the other. The Colombians must have figured out her inability to move to her left side and guess what, the rest of their spot kicks went to her left.
All these doesn't guarantee that we would have won, but it still calls into question the ability of these coaches and how they even got the jobs in the first place.
Being a Coach isn't all about drawing up a formation and selecting a team, so much goes into it and there's a lot of deficiencies in the Nigerian National team coaches seem.
Sorry for the Long reply. Obviously there was no form of coaching except jogging around the training pitch .. Caicedo and some other Columbian players always beat the defense line. Again, the defenders failed to hold or even have a defense line there was always one Central Defender or defender that was deeper than the other defenders especially central defenders.. there was always 1 central defender playing the opposition players onside. Another thing I've noticed is once there are pacy players or strikers in the team, all they do is long balls and hope the pacy player gets it not knowing that passing the ball all around to players who the opposition aren't closing down is better... there were times the midfielders had to pass back but chose to harder option of passing forward.. the problem is for the first 10 minutes they played very well and were passing back to the defenders who were also changing the wings by passing up to the other defenders who then passed to the other winger.. the major problem of Nigerian coaches is creating tactics for chance creation and finishing those chances and training and telling the wingers, full-backs or players who find themselves in the wings to cross or pass the ball towards the center of the box or cut inside and shoot or pass. Another major problem of Nigerian coaches is training the midfielders and other strikers to run into the box.. most times when the players are at the wings there is usually no one in the box or its the striker that's suppose to be in the box that's in the wing with the ball. Ajakaye was always in the wing.. Once a player is at the wing at least 3 players should already be in the box or running into the box and another player should be lurking behind the player in the wing incase the player has no space to cross they can pass to the player lurking behind them.. Poor local coaches and coaching is affecting the teams.. Anyway, They should allow the foreign born player to start the 3rd place match or at least play.. |
