Subsidy should continuehuh Are you for real? We don't need these wastages.
Those prisoners should go to farms and feed themselves. Why waste money when we have many things to do?

Issue of minimum wage is entirely not related to this topic. But instead of FG to increase MW, the should look for ways to increase the value of Naira( more production/ exports, drastically reduce our reliance to dollar, etc and be able to control inflation.
you need subsidized power to maintain production and strengthen the Naira. So subsidy should stay.

Eh?
Why spend such on some criminals( not all of em are guilty of thier crimes) when many hard working Nigerian that hustles legitimately are yet to benefit any reasonable thing from the government? undecided
that's why subsidy of petrol should continue. Minimum wage annually comes to less than N400,000. That puts prisoners ahead of free citizens. There has to be something to make up for 600k difference and that's subsidy.

Time to shed some weights.

The Nigerian federal government is carrying too much load than it can bear. Imagine a institutionally weak government carry 66 items on the exclusive list.

Not even the US federal government Carrie’s such yeye loads. This is what make our presidents dictatorial, authoritative and territorial.
Does the US federal arm control resources and reshare states resources according who dominates the FG?
You argument is clearly flawed and gives you as a regular attack dog and party agent who supports anything the govt does under your favorite party.

America has a robust federal system that's far more reasonable and balanced unlike ours where there are ministries for resource of the minorities but non resource specific ministries for other major regions. The FG isn't doing enough considering they have the lion share of the money in the system.

Nigeria's educational system is so focused on memorization and assuming there is always one exclusive "right answer" (and only one way to get that answer) that it sucks the joy out of nearly subject, so her poor early performance is no surprise. The sort of independent mindset needed to get a PhD in mathematics is precisely the kind the average Nigerian teacher hates the most.

The government workers can afford to work against the nongovernment exporters because their salaries are guaranteed by oil money and not how well they run their MDAs(Ministries, Departments, and Agencies). There is a vital disconnect between their performance and their salary inflow.

We need to restructure.

You got great skillset. If in you shoes, I will favour doubling one of those skills with advancement in IT/computer sci.

Imagine you set up 2 barbing saloons, you run one and supervise the person running the second, then also don't keep your eyes off the IT skills and opportunities.

If you also choose cooking, you could cook in bulk and sell in two spot, but that will be slightly more combersome.
Politics › Re: The West Has Huge Welfare So Why Discourage Our Petrol Subsidy? by CodeTemplar(op): 12:46pm On May 10, 2023

What is the volume of investments we've attracted to the DPK and AGO subsectors since they were deregulated? Taking subsidy off would be a move that's akin to attempting to cure a terminal disease with a scratch. The fundamental challenges of mismanagement of resources and failure to attract investments remain regardless, and they should constitute the bulk of our concerns and not a removal.
Mismanagement doesn't make subsidy a bad idea I have to agree. The fact that those telling us to remove it have one form of subsidy or welfare tells us a lot if we want to be truthful. We should be looking to reduce corruption drastically and not cancellation of any big money spending scheme corruption is affecting.
In fact, saying we should get rid of petrol subsidy because of mismanagement and corruption is akin to saying whatever corruption affects should be scrapped and we should just hope corruption and mismanagement will disappear like that.

A good manager doesn't scrap departments because there are undisciplined staff there. He/she takes responsibility and ensure whatever task that department is saddled with is well managed.
Politics › Re: El-Rufai: Buhari Frustrated Fuel Subsidy Removal by CodeTemplar:
nairalanda1:
Am not surprised.

Every Nigerian leader knows subsidy issa scam. But they cannot remove it because at the end it means high fuel prices and by extension high food prices...and once you touch someone's food, there would be riots. Nothing to stop that.

So the scam continued because the 'poor' were benefiting from it....allegedly.

Meanwhile we sacrificed domestic refining to maintain the scam. We sacrifiiced financial security to maintain the scam...because poor people have to 'benefit'.

Buhari is just the latest in a long line of Nigerian leaders who have sabotaged subsidy removal.

Anyway, Tinubu may remove it, and I hope he has the courage to do so. (Obi and Atiku, should either of them take over, will also remove it.).Because, no matter how many times we cry poverty...subsidy is not sustainable. We either pay for fuel at the market price at the pump....or we lie to ourselves, and pay N50 for one liter, while our government pays on our behalf at IMF HQ and Bank of China HQ....at their terms...for our fuel. cheesy

Got to get going. Good morning.
You said a number of things I disagree with but of interest to me the most is your point about subsidy stifling local refining. Subsidy shouldn't stiffle local refining because it has no connection to it. Subsidy is all about reducing the price of what the people buy.

Your proposal is funny.
Nigerians especially people in power are highly ingenious in mischief and sabotage. They'll know it's just temporary and would wait out the entire window of the test only to needlessly cumulate the profit when subsidy is permanently removed.

My take is that they already did the test-run months ago when price rose to a price average of #500/ltr while it was termed a strike action my importers. They wanted to test our resolve to see if we would adapt as usual which we did, that's why they're bold enough to propose an increase of over #700/ltr. My problem with subsidy removal is that we're gonna leave free momey for an irresponsible leader to loot; both ways the average Nigerian is at loss.
the test run was not complete because NNPC still pressures IPMAN to sell at low price.

Nobody is owing them. People only pay for what they consider appropriate and fair. Imagine giving a household a bill of #30,000 /Month. Without maybe 100hrs light within the period. Sometimes the light is not even beneficial because of low current. They should no that they are selling and the buyers should also have a say. They simply estimate a bill and send it to people that they are owing. Since they refused to metered houses they should always bargain with consumers to arrive at a fair billing. Customers will pay if they consider what you are asking them to pay as fair.
They always harassed and bully their Customers. The customers buy their poles, wires, and Sometimes transformers. Maybe TCN should deal directly with the consumers by effective marketing and compulsory metering of every customer. GENCO has failed.
God bless you. Omohayek should see this comment. Sharing posts about citizens bypassing metres but not one about how citizens pay for what they don't really get is unfair.

The one they are giving to us we have refused to pay. The ones that have prepared metre chooses to bypass. The problem of the country is the citizens ....I know someone that can buy fuel for 10k without complaining but if that person pays 5k for Electricity bill....lol him go cry say nepa don kill am.
Illogical talk. Everybody cannot be crooked and the discos are more guilty than the few citizens bypassing metres. Let the discos give everyone prepaid metre unconditionally. Prepaid metre is like simcard in other countries. I am sure if telecom wasn't privatized and competitive foreign organisation with tested and trusted culture like MTN had come in, we will still be having simcard shortage and people going to their neighbour's house to receive calls.

Here Peter Obi demonstrates what so many having been saying from the start of his presidential bid: more than anything else, his rabidly intolerant supporters were the ones who cost him any chance of victory, by alienating everyone who wasn't in perfect alignment with every single one of their opinions. Just compare and contrast the vicious insults and personal attacks they unleashed upon Soyinka's head with this statement by Obi in which he forthrightly acknowledges what all his ignorant and bilious supporters couldn't: that Wole Soyinka paid an unimaginably high personal cost for the Igbos during the civil war, and has more than earned his right to speak out on public affairs without fear of frothing mobs calling him every foul name in the book.
This is an exaggeration of a truth, detaching it from its true cause and effect, and reattaching it to suit your narrative about the election. There was massive rigging and a dwindling voting base generally. That's what cost LP. Nigerians are honestly tired of both APC and PDP. LP isn't far from both but frustration drove us towards LP. Everyone knows how Igbos are and what we were risking by allowing an Igbo man run on the most viable option asides the hitherto, two main parties.
