Meanwhile, medical doctors in health facilities owned by the state have commenced indefinite strike.

Chairman, Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) in Imo, Kyrian Duruewuru, who briefed journalists in Owerri yesterday, accused the state government of treating the doctors unfairly.

He noted that the industrial action was to register their disaffection with the way Imo government under Okorocha had openly marginalised medical practitioners in the state.

The NMA chairman explained that the first phase of the strike would involve all doctors in Imo State University Teaching Hospital (IMSUTH), Orlu; Imo State Specialist Hospital, Umuguma; and the Hospital Management Board (HMB).

According to him, the second phase of the industrial action will involve all doctors in private hospitals and those in federal health centres in the state.

Duruewuru asserted that while their colleagues practising in other states were enjoying the adjusted salary structure for medical practitioners, Okorocha refused to implement it.

He said: “For the past four years, doctors in Imo have received 70 per cent of their salaries. Also, the doctors are being owed three months salaries by Imo government. For us, this highly unacceptable and very insensitive.”

[/b]
So how will a state struggling to pay salary pay new workers of these proposed institutions?
Our governors act as if oil prices, our main source of income, are even guaranteed to be stable or steady. he did next to nothing about IGR for eight solid years but is opening more schools only after his candidate didn't scale through to months to the end of his party's tenure.
That shows he is doing it in order to drain the incoming govt of funds and turn them against the people. Sad!
Politics › Re: Ihedioha Kicks As Okorocha Sets Up Committee On Six Tertiary Schools by CodeTemplar:

The proposed new schools include: Aboh Ngor University of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences; University of Agriculture and Developmental Science, Umuagwo; University of Science and Technology, Onuimo; University of Creative Technology, Isiaku-Nkwerre; University of Medical Science, Ogboko, Ideato South; Marine University, Oguta; College of Health Technology; Mbonu Ojike Polytechnic, Arondizuogu; and Bishop Shanahan Polytechnic, Ahiara Mbaise.

Okorocha said the new institutions would be on 90 per cent private investors funding and 10 per cent government input, noting that government would handle infrastructure areas.

If across the entire Nigeria we could only come up with a few privately owned and well run institutions like Madonna(Fr Edeh), ABUAD(Afe Babalola university), Atiku's American Nigeria University and the usual church owned schools, what makes Okorocha think private individuals will fork out 90% of what is needed to kickstart a long term human capital investment?
I hope Okorocha realizes Ogun state has many institutions partly because of its proximity to a choked up Lagos metropolis.
This copy and paste of "policy" may not end well oh.

when you want to act like you are fighting for the masses, you do it consistently without being partisan.

is obasanjo a good president? is jonathan a good president? both are southerners and christians. even in the face of boko haram destruction and extreme hardship, our aunty omotola disappeared and no where to be found. only to resurface whenever northern muslim presidents are ruling.

A true activist will never appear partisan or show a bigot tendencies. they fight for the masses no matter who is in government.

not all these useless yeyebrities like charlieboy abi na charliekid that donot pay tax but suddenly become activist so they can get paid from politics.

Depends

1.Countries who rely on other commodities have the same issues...eg most African countries rely on selling agric products. When prcies crash, things can get messy.

2.Some rely on solid minerals...good example...Zambia ; copper. Zimbabwe: diamonds.

3.When the prices of your selling commodity crashes...your economy goes down with it.

4.Industrialzation is the answer...but thanks to subsides in the power sector...which prevents DISCOS and GENCOS from making money to improve infrastructure...and thanks to oil subsides...which reduces profits...prevents investment in things like GAS plants....Nigeria cannot industrialize.

Infact, the solution is industrialization. But we have to run our power and oil sectors like capitalists. Since Nigerians prefer to pay low prices for both....
But we have agric products in excess also. Cocoa is there and our share of raw cocoa can easily replace 80% of our oil earnings if properly harnessed.
We have solid minerals also. We have a lot at the end of the day. We Also have population. China is using her population to win factories over because excess supply labour via high population will drive down cost of labour and prices of final will go down. We have so much but focus on something God put there as a bonus. That's like a graduates who hangs around relations for 30k pocket money instead of accepting a 300k salary job.

I came across your post.

What is happening in Nigeria is called oil shock.

We were here before. In 1980, my dad and mom earned about N500 as salary combined. With that salary they were able to look after themselves well, and send a relative of my dad's to school.

In 1980, the oil price was at its highest....and had been since 1973....so things were good. Back then, salary earners like my dad could even afford a new car. NEW car...not these second hand jalopies.

In 1982, oil prices crashed, and so did the economy.

By 1983, things were so bad that Nigerians were eating from trashcan

Buhari took over on the last day of 1983....the oil price continued to fall, IBB took over in 1985, partially removed subsidy...improved econmomy for 2 years, then things went back to square one.

By 1988....my parent's salary could not keep them and their family (both lecturers). Back then....side hustle mode activated. That's how we survived till oil prices shot up again in the 2000.

Even if GEJ won, we were heading into a recession...as Ngozi Okonjo Iweala said. And it happened before. The reason why we were prosperous in 2012 was high oil prices above $100 .

On May 29 2015...OIL WAS at $75. By 2016, oil was at $30. Since then it has never gone above $80. The good times are over.
What about nations with no oil? What shock do they experience? When we blame oil market dynamics for our woes, it is like blaming God for putting the oil there in the first place.

The question is what did their parents actually do to afford that lifestyle for them back in the day? 3.5 mil per term school is definitely not for the middle class, even less 20 years ago. So why don't people like him just do what the parents did, continue running the family business and just keep getting richer?

My guess is that there was never any business to begin with. Maybe their parents were the jobbers who brought Nigeria to its knees in the first place, now they are either retired or dead, so no more access to free money. Of course the kids of today's political class and their proxies are the ones attending 3.5 million per term schools now. And guess what? Themselves and their parents are eating the future of Nigeria, today. Those kids will surely come back here too, to lament when their parents are dead.
I like the bold part. Intelligent use of words for a claim you know is probably true but hard to prove conclusively.

What inferiority complex?

You see the problem with you and your kind? You assume that once people don't agree with you, they are poor. In my early grade school, my school fees were paid in thousands of US$ per month. I did not grow up in Nigeria and I'm not Nigerian. Do not jump to insult everyone you meet online.

I am not Nigerian to begin with, so some of your rants above, I do not even get them.

You sound disgusting and bitter. You think you are better than everyone else, but you don't know everyone else. There is no thread that you do not use to belittle your fellow countrymen with your wack pride about attending a school the people in public universities believe you only entered because you are not intelligent and your entry results were so poor.

That you went to one of your mediocre private universities in Nigeria is not enough to make you speak of inferiority. You are inferior to me already. Go.

Maybe you think you are a rich kid. You aren't. You're poor to me. Your hatred of your superiors will one day get you into sticky trouble. May baseless ego help you fall hard.
With all the phantom superiority complex you attributed to me, I have never come here to say I attended a private school and I challenge you to show me where I ever made such comment.
I never boast of attending schools of xyz thousand US Dollars in my life. If you read between the lines well, I don't go an attack without feeling attacked first. The public school system you accuse me of attacking has been belittling private schools even before the first private uni graduates their pioneering set so if you want to speak on private-pubic schools attacks here be factual and take it from the aggressors to make your comment fairer.
In fact there is little or nothing tying to me to any private school here. I challenge you on that.

I went to a private primary school (not Atlantic Hall, not in Lagos) back in the day

1.Parents had side hustle....my mum had to start a business, and my dad bought shares.

2.Parents sacrificed well well. No new clothes for Christmas, no shopping in Leventis or Kingsway, savings, savings, savings. grin

3.Did I mention my parents were both lecturers whose salary was bad..so bad that one Hausa trader my mom knew was shocked when she told him her salary. (this was 1980's//90's )

4. Fortunately the university my parents worked for provided housing....(though that was at the cost of a chunk of my dad's salary)
God bless you for this post. There are parents who had to live almost like rats just to be able to afford private schools for their wards
There are also students who just secured their admission in CU with faith and had to struggle to pay school fees all through.
The problem with these hateful creatures attacking rich folks is their inability to mind their business in life. They are always comparing themselves to the next man.

You don't know what the other man has put in place to afford what he can afford, you just see him having things and the next thing that comes to you mind is "they think they are better than us".

I once went for enquiries on some volunteer work as part of my desire to give back to the society where ever I find myself. I could see a lot of London schooled vapid senseless children who could not answer my questions. These are your working class rich kids, I presume, who you feel interact with the world. They do not. In Nigeria they are worshipped by lower staff who are even older than them. They are at the important desks and know nothing about why they are there or how they got there.
May you not die of inferiority complex.
According to your claim, you once went somewhere...and saw some people ... then you quickly generalize based on you feeling of inferiority that has metamorphosed into full blown hate that all working class rich kids are like that. Don't go and improve on your life. Be counting comments and monitoring who condemns public universities there man.

Nah bro, they didn't stick to no law.

they inherited their wealth through blood and tears.

US enslaved black Americans for 400 years , getting free labour, building their empires.

Australia too took the land from the original owners (Aborigonal) and waged war by any means necessary to destroy these natives.

United kingdom too involved in human slavery, all these are not righteous deeds.

So please dont come at me like these countries are innocent. They are not.

Nigeria is not as corrupt as all these countries mentioned above.

United State preached democracy in different places but that's just a charade to deceit and steal the resources of such country. They're going about preaching democracy but they only just allowed black ppl to vote (mind you, voting is human right). The US constitution once regarded black people as 1/3 of human being. What's more demoralizing? That's evil.

These countries got enough blood on their hands.

Yet, your pastors would rather go there for visit and buy properties there, securing his future while they tell you to chill cos your father is somewhere building you mansion

Question now is, what is their hustle?

What are their expectations?

If they have a car and home already, I'm assuming they want more.

All well and good, but is that a realistic expectation?

If you have all these, then your only rightful complaint should be issues relating to insecurity.

Wherever else you find yourself you would hardly have more than a car and home.
May envy and jealousy not consume your brain.
Were they isolated from the society totally? So because they have rich parents they must carry that tag for the rest of their lives. The average working class rich kids still ends up interacting with the world
