Family › Advise Me On Good And Cost Friendly Water Purification System by CodeTemplar(op): 4:17am On May 05, 2019
Hello Guys, Please I need to get a water filter or purifier for myself as I have noticed sediments or settled particles in the borehole water I currently use. I know this isn't ideal and want to do something about it.
I need advise from Nairalanders who are familiar with water filters and purifiers.
Education › Tanzanian Low-cost Water Filter Wins Innovation Prize by CodeTemplar(op): 3:26am On May 05, 2019
Old but relevant and inspirational.

A water filter which absorbs anything from copper and fluoride to bacteria, viruses and pesticides has won a prestigious African innovation prize.
Its inventor, Tanzanian chemical engineer Askwar Hilonga, uses nanotechnology and sand to clean water.
He told the BBC his invention should help the 70% of households in Tanzania that do not have clean drinking water.
The prize, worth £25,000 ($38,348), was the first of its kind from the UK's Royal Academy of Engineering.
Head Judge Malcolm Brinded said, "His innovation could change the lives of many Africans, and people all over the world."
The sand-based water filter that cleans contaminated drinking water using nanotechnology has already been trademarked.
"I put water through sand to trap debris and bacteria," Mr Hilonga told the BBC's Newsday programme about the filter.
"But sand cannot remove contaminants like fluoride and other heavy metals so I put them through nano materials to remove chemical contaminants."

He said that before one filter costs $130 but, after winning the £25,000, he will buy materials in bulk and the cost will reduce.

"For people who cannot afford water filters, we have established water stations where people come and buy water at a very very low, affordable price," he added.

Mr Hilonga explains on his YouTube video from 2014 that other resins can remove up to 97% of micro-organisms but his target was to produce nano-filter "that can 99.999% of micro organisms, bacteria and viruses".

His family regularly suffered from water-borne diseases growing up in rural Tanzania, so when he graduated from his PhD in nanotechnology in South Korea he started looking at nano materials that would be suitable for water purification, he told Technology4Change .

The Royal Academy of Engineering aims to help sub-Saharan African engineers to develop solutions to African challenges into businesses.
Mr Hilonga and the three runners-up, who received £10,000 each, have already spent six months developing a business plan.

What exactly has my explanation on the importance of decentralised/liberalised distribution got to do with defending any government biko? How exactly do some heads manage to interpret everything in life along political lines? undecided
Decentralization of power supply doesn't connote or imply scrapping of national grid. In USA they have their national grid decentralized into 3 grids and they didn't scrap the national grid to achieve that. Everyone already knows you as an APC govt man here on NL. No need wasting precious time on that.

There wouldnt be a need for new distribution lines, the existing distribution infrastructure can be shared. That's actually how it's done in more developed nations although I agree it would be very difficult to attain that level in Nigeria due to the currently rotten infrastructure.
All these are just like subtle attempt at defending a failing govt. Let them solve prepaid metre issue. Anything short of that is a scam.
When fashola was appointed in late 2015, one of the first thing he did was to increase energy rates while he scrapped the service charge. Let him measure what the end users are consuming first via prepaid metering because any attempt at improving power supply without measurement will lead to wider error margin in the current estimated billing system.

Hmm..... one man is hiding under the guise of religion and in the process he's duping his gullible church members and growing his own empire.

I don't see the point in building universities that almost 70% of your church members can barely afford, if you are doing the work of God do it selflessly.
Can every taxpayer in Nigeria attend public universities or schools? No. But they pay tax and they are forced to pay it unlike tithes and offerings.

One of the few sensible governors in Nigeria. IGR should be key for all states. Oil price is subject to many external factors and we have to beat down that dangerous mentality of "Nigeria is always rich". Times have changed a lot and it will take a lot of work to sustain Nigeria in the future, not a lot of oil.

Politics › Re: What Is Wrong With Nigeria Pastors by CodeTemplar:
The private jet ownership by pastors can be divided into two categories. The ones gotten out of genuine need and the one gotten as a show of status.
I will focus on the former.
Some churches have a lot of travelling to do that they actually can save substantial amount of money by buying a jet and running it themselves. These churches are most times busy doing one travel or the other and when not doing that, they have need of delivering aid materials. If they should start patronizing commercial airlines, then it would be more expensive than owning a jet.For some churches, jet isn't a luxury but a necessity.

As for your suggestion about building free schools for members, I would rather have that Canadian church you made mention of, run a fee-less school for those African beneficiaries of theirs and let's see how the school will be run.
Factories aren't the job of churches to build. The same way God call pastors and prophets to gospel ministry is the same way He calls industrialist into ministry. If pastors alone are answering their call to ministry, then that isn't their fault. Afterall pastors don't blame stiff religious law for their church size and I see no reason why we should blame pastors for not answering the call of industrialists.

Mechatronics is a great choice but you said most foreign schools don't favour it as much as they do four CE, EE and ME. Anyone you do, just known that mechatronics will be relevant in the future and I saw a clip on YouTube were they projected that US will be needing tens of thousands of mechatronics people and put average salary at over $200k.

It is absurd.
Every MDA in Nigeria has it's own special expense that no outsider can understand and it is kept secret while they expect to be funded by same public they can't carry along. I am sure the mother of all fraud is going in the FG public university system.
