TravelRe: Work Opportunities In South Africa by collinsfbi(m): 9:02am On Dec 21, 2011
I'm on my way to south africa. I'm travelling to south africa to work first, then skul. My intention is to work, and pay my tuition fees afterwards. But don't know what kind of job opportunity awaits me. Pls, nairalanders in south africa should help me utilize the kind of jobs that are readily avialable for an undergraduate like me. Your responses will be highly welcome. Thanks
Don't be deceived you can't get any job except if you want to go into crime (drugs) in SA. You sound so funny, you want to work to pay tuition in SA, you must be kidding, I will advise you to just sit back in naija and enjoy your daily amala, fufu and anything that comes your way rather than suffering yourself in SA. For your information things have changed drastically in SA, no more asylum so if you intend to over stay then you are likely to be in hot soup.

Having learnt a lot from Prof. Wole Soyinka literary skills with many of his poems written in Pidgin Language right from my university days, i decided to try and do something in pidgin language and i came up with this in 2006 in my second year with a little modification of the last stanza just of recent. Maybe this will motivate you to do something dynamic probably in Pidgin language too.

Democracy Palava

I don try padlock my mouth
but this democracy palava no let me be
Them all dey talk say i dey jam talk
but na wetin my eyes see i dey talk

LiteratureRe: Find Readers And Get Paid For Writing by collinsfbi(m): 11:28am On Dec 15, 2011
@Collinsfbi, Thanks, but why should I not like what you have to say? I called for comments, didn't I Grin

One thing with Naijastories is that as writers, we have to be very creative and forward looking. Dead websites abound and even as we'll soon clock two years, we cannot rest on what we've achieved in the past (being featured on the BBC website, Tell magazine, Ynaija!, Webtrends, Technuzu, among others.)

Generating cash by traffic doesn't defeat the purpose of a site. As you know, Nairaland is a very good forum for what you have listed, and still Seun is the biggest earner in Nigeria. In fact the money he earns helps him keep the site going, and even running contests that will develop the country.

What Naijastories has is a spin on that idea, generate the cash, but make it a community fund so that everybody gets a part rather than just the admin. We believe that with the platform we provide for genuine members, the money is the smallest part of the attraction. Some of the stories shared on the site get up to 500 readers, and at least 3 - 10 solid reviews from other writers including published authors, and this is what will help the writer improve. The discussion forums are also there to debate on relevant issues with like-minded individuals. As you noted, the money to be earned is really a thank you, not a wage.

You see, writers on Naijastories have received admission in foreign universities, won internal and external writing contests, got full time jobs or writing gigs and publishing contracts, all from participating seriously on the site or from opportunities we share. If one's plan is just to earn $10, then we're happy to split our earnings. However, the vision of the site still remains and those who key into it will surely reach their dreams.

Thanks for joining me in this discussion. I always appreciate a round table Grin
Your points are well understood but i was only concerned about the points and cash issue because many can capitalize on that as the basis of making money with unnecessary comments and posts. Anyways, if as many as possible participants can keep the focus of the site standing not minding whatever they get therein then i think many Nigerians will benefit. No qualms!

Agrarians

Literally it means people living in an agricultural society, or espousing the merits of such a society, as the PHYSIOCRATS did. In this sense most espousers of PASTORAL traditions are agrarians. In literary history and criticism, however, the term is usually applied to a group of Southern American writers in Nashville, Tennessee, who published The Fugitive (1922-1925), a little magazine of poetry and some criticism championing agrarian REGIONALISM but attacking "the old high-caste Brahmins of the Old South."

Agon

Literally it means contest of any kind. In Greek tragedy it was a prolonged dispute, often a formal debate in which the CHORUS divided and took sides with the disputants. In the OLD COMEDY in Greece this debate, called EPIRRHEMATIC AGON, involved elaborate exchanges between the chorus and the debaters, and addresses to the audience. In discussions of PLOT, agon has come to mean any conflict.

Affective Fallacy

The judging of a work of art in terms of its results, especially its emotional effect. The term was introduced by W.K. Wimsatt, Jr., and M.C. Beardsley to describe the "confusion between the poem and its result (what it is and what it does)." It complements the INTENTIONAL FALLACY. Notable versions of the affective fallacy are Aristotle's CATHARSIS and Longinus's "transport."

Aestheticism

Aesthetic movement) Refers to a movement in late nineteenth-century Europe centered on a belief in "art for art's sake." Rooted in the ideas of Immanuel Kant, Baudelaire, Flaubert, Mallarmé, and others, aestheticism believed that art was not meant to serve a moral or didactic purpose; art's value was its beauty. The ideas of aestheticism came to England through writers such as Walter Pater and later influenced writers such as Wilde and Swinburne who were connected with the Decadence movement.

Nice site, great work and i love the fact that it was created to support aspiring Nigerian writers, but to be frank and sincere with you, the points and cash issue is to generate traffic. Under normal circumstances, many will never make $10 (#1,500) in 6 months. I would have loved if the site is just operate without the points and cash issue because this only render the site ordinary like any other traffic generated sites. Nigeria/Nigerian needs a very good forum where Nigerians writers will operate, sharing ideas, discussing important issue affecting Nigeria, proffering solutions, helping one another to attain international standard without the mind of operating or participating for the purpose of generating points to get cash and that is why i love nairaland so much. I know you may not like this but i think i have to say it.

Hi, I am supposed to write an essay on the above topic in 450 words but I have no idea how to start. Pls can I get guidelines from anyone? Thanks
I don't think there is much to do as regards this, just look at yourself the way God made and looking out for areas where you are very good at such as singing, acting, or any area of life where you think you can fit in to assist your fellow human being such as health, education, proverty alleviation etc and look at what you can do to change situation of things putting into consideration your current environment conditions. I hope this helps.

Hey Nairalanders,
I'm a 20 year old British-Nigerian. I collect my Nigerian passport next week.

So I'll be visiting Nigeria for the first time in 2012, where must i visit?
Please let me know,

I might be in Nigeria for a few months so list as many amazing places as you can, thanks.
(landmarks, events, festivals, lakes, beaches, clubs, markets, shops, best places to eat, museums ect)

Also, would it be unsafe to travel alone as a young woman?

Thanks in advance!
I think it will be better if you have someone to hang out with, more or less like a tourist guide for your safety since you will base in Lagos. At the same time, you have to make sure he/she is someone you know very well (relatives) because you may face diff things in lagos most esp. if someone any of these so called area boys find out that it's your first visit to Nigeria. On the other hand, you can start your in Lagos by paying a visit to the following places:
Seaside attraction and resorts at Bar Beach, Victoria Island camera camera
Badagry: the first missionary post and houses the first two-storey building in the country
Lekki Conservation Centre
National Museum: which houses important relics such as the traditional Benin Bronzes and the replica of the Festac '77 symbol.
Didi Museum
Tarkwa Bay Beach
National Theater, Iganmu, Lagos camera
Jankara Market on Lagos Island
Murtala Muhammed Memorial Botanical Garden

Action

The series of events that constitute a PLOT, what the characters say, do, think, or in some cases fail to do. Orderly action differs from aimless or episodic activity; an action customarily has a beginning, middle, and end. The action of a work is the answer to the question "What happens?"
